Mary was an amazing host. The architecture was beautiful. The house was pristine and spotless. The bed and bedding were super comfortable. She knew all the best spots in town and was very familiar with where we were headed for the weekend. 10/10 would recommend and we will definitely be back to stay again.

The most beautiful place we could have stayed on our overnight trip to Columbia. Mary was so accommodating and made our stay here wonderful! The property is so rich in history and adorned with beautiful antiques. Our room was clean, spacious, and even stocked with complimentary waters! Patticake, the resident cat made our night in the cottage even better! I would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone passing through or planning a stay in Columbia. It is also within a block from the Township Auditorium, making our trip to the concert we were attending a breeze. Thank you for the lovely time, Mary. We will definitely be staying here again.

Loved this little place and wish I would've known it existed sooner! We stay in the President's Suite and really enjoyed the size of the bathroom and the bed. Breakfast was great and Mary, our hostess was very kind and sociable. We loved the room and will definitely come back next year.

If you are looking for a perfect bed and breakfast this is the place!!! With a little bit of history and a 5 star breakfast as well as Ken and Christal as your host I promise you will want to book a room there again! My wife and I stayed and let me tell you we absolutely loved it!!! Ken and Christal are sooo amazing and my wife and I could sit at the breakfast table and talk with both of them for hours!!! Our room was so beautiful and they saw it was our anniversary and made it extra special and memorable for us! We already are making plans to go back in February! Thank you Ken and Christal so much and thank you for making us feel like family while staying at your B&B!!! Much love from Brandy and Regina!!!!

This was our first B&B experience and it has set the standard SO high. Immediately, the owners were incredibly accommodating and welcoming. We visited Congaree National park and this was a perfect location that was close to the park and also beautiful, historic downtown area ( while still somehow being quiet and peaceful!) We had requested a little earlier check in that she worked out for us. We brought our 2 year old and they immediately treated us like family. The rooms and house are absolutely gorgeous and rich with history and culture. They gave us a wonderful tour and history lesson on the home. The rooms were so cozy and comfy while still creating this elegant feel. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and they accommodated our daughter best they could. We will absolutely visit this beautiful place with such kind, welcoming people again. 10/10 experience!!! Don’t hesitate on booking here ☺️

My daughter and I had such a perfect stay here - it's everything you hope a B&B will be and then some. We stayed in the room with a king bed, a separate room with a twin bed and whirlpool tub, and a private bathroom (so really three rooms). It was wonderful and the beds super comfy. I'm a light sleeper, and it was really quiet. The breakfast was delicious, the house beautiful and full of charm and history, and the neighborhood safe. But the best part about staying here is Mary. She is so cool and very kind. We will definitely stay here next time we're in Columbia. It's Southern hospitality at its best.

Our family attended a wedding weekend in Columbia and we booked 3 rooms at the Chestnut Cottage Bed & Breakfast. From the moment we stepped into the parlor of this historical home we met the owner Mary Sparrow and was immediately delighted we had selected this remarkable B&B. The house is loaded with history, beautifully appointed furnishings & the best of charm! The guest rooms were large, beautifully decorated with small touches like flowers in our room, bottles of water, chocolates, etc...but my favorite touch was the delicious breakfasts served every morning gathered together in the dining room. Another favorite was the front porch swing and the rocking chairs. As you know, a swing soothes the soul and the porch was magical at night! If your plans take you to Columbia, just call Mary she can tell you everything about the history, sites and dining in the area - she is an encyclopedia of knowledge. My family can't wait to visit Columbia and enjoy the pleasure of what the Chestnut Cottage B&B adds to ones life - Culture, Comfort & true Southern Hospitality!

Lovely lovely time with Ken and Crystal. Terrific hosts... beautiful historical bedroom. Crystal gave us such an interesting tour of this beautiful home. Make sure you ask her for all the details. The Hosts of this home joined us after a terrific breakfast and made our stay so welcoming. If you are passing through Columbia SC, don't miss it!!!

Staying at Chestnut cottage was a wonderful experience. Crystal and Ken were attentive and welcoming, they greeted us at the door with a friendly smile and a brief rundown of the house. My wife and I were the only guests staying that night, Crystal upgraded us the presidential suite at no cost. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in! The mattress was custom made by a local company, it was like sleeping on a cloud, we didn't want to get out of bed the next morning. That day we were treated to an amazing three course breakfast, everything was delicious. We planned to eat quickly and get on the road but we spent the next two hours talking with Crystal and Ken, sharing stories, laughing and enjoying their company. Crystal gave us a full tour of the home and shared the history of the property. We've stayed at B&Bs all over, the experience and personal treatment here is second to none. Crystal and Ken are a wonderful couple who go above and beyond to make sure you receive a personal experience and not just a room to stay in. We will definitely be back again the next time we're in SC.

Wow! 5 stars is too low! I work for a major brand, 4 star hotel and we could learn a ton from the hospitality on display here! A last-second scramble to find a replacement room for my friend's honeymoon provided the opportunity to see how above and beyond customer service can still be provided these days. Not only would I highly recommend the Chesnut Cottage, I'm going to use it as a real-world example to show my hotel that a top-tier experience can still be provided with ease and grace. A thousand thank you's!!!! πŸ₯°πŸ˜πŸ˜

My daughter and I absolutely loved Chestnut Cottage! The owners are phenomenal! They had such amazing personal touches everywhere including the delicious gourmet breakfast and yummy treats always available! The bed was so comfortable and the curtains helped with the sun coming in the room. It was very clean too! My daughter loved the history of it all and the quaint feel of the home. She enjoyed speaking to others staying at the B&B too- kept saying how nice everyone is... Thank you for making her first real B&B experience so memorable and comfortable! We will definitely return!

Ken and Crystal were wonderful inn keepers! We felt right at home. The beds are the most luxurious we have ever felt! We were blessed with a delicious breakfast. The history and knowledge of the inn shared with us was outstanding. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I spent our wedding night here 20 years ago. We decided to return for our anniversary. We actually got the same room! The room just as beautiful and the service was great! If you're looking southern charm, beauty and hospitality this is the place!

I cannot express how impressed we were with the Chesnutt Cottage. A beautiful historic home, well kept, comfortable beds, high class amenities and a wonderful host couple. We felt at home as our host treated us like family. The morning breakfast was wonderful and hope to make this a traditional stop every year. We highly recommend the Chesnut Cottage! -Sean and Ann

Our stay at the Chestnut Cottage was one of the best highlights of our trip to our friend's daughter's wedding. We felt so cared for by Mary and her staff. The bed & breakfast is immaculate, cozy, full of history, and simply delightful. Mary is full of interesting stories and a joy to be around. Loved it! My college roommate and her husband also booked a room for the event and felt exactly the same way. The breakfast was such a treat, too! So thoughtful and enjoyable from the great food to the beautiful family dishes and china!

We have stayed at many B & B locations, but this rates at the top of our list as a favorite!! We will definitely go back. The house is fabulous and we loved the host, Mary!! She made us feel so welcomed and she loves the history of the Chesnut family and the house! She offered eating, shopping and local excursion info. Thank you for making our one night stay feel like we were staying at a friend’s house! ❀️

Amazing house and hostess! Beautiful historic house, furnished and decorated to perfection and in style. Big admiration to the owner Marry who made us breakfast and spend some time over coffee talking about the history of the house and people who lived in it and left their mark in the history.

This is a must stay Bed and Breakfast! The house is beautiful with a lot of history and character. The host, Mary is so delightful and knowledgeable about the history and area. Lots of great places to visit and dine (ask Mary about β€œThe Oyster Bar”). I’m looking forward to visiting there next year. Thank you Mary for being the special person you are, God bless.

The owner is an absolute gem. It felt secluded though we were in the middle of town. Exquisite and charming. Breakfast delicious. Comfortable and romantic. Booked my next stay before I left and will continue to visit monthly! Just really in love with the place.

Adorable B and B with great location walkable to USC campus. Mary the owner is a gem and took care of every detail of our stay! The historic home is beautifully maintained with sweet touches, like fresh flowers in our room upon arrival. Parking onsite is a breeze and plentiful. The front porch is a great place for morning coffee or an evening cocktail. Our room was clean and extremely comfortable. All the staff are kind, welcoming and went out of their way to make sure we had anything we needed. Would highly recommend!

Absolutely wonderful wedding weekend stay. Mary is the most gracious host and made our special day perfect. We stayed in the Carriage House Suite and loved the intimate appointments and thoughtful touches. We highly recommend Chesnut Cottage to anyone wanting a personal get away with a laid back atmosphere and peaceful surroundings. You will not be disappointed!

What a fantastic bed & breakfast place. This is our first time staying here and we're already loving it. There are six unique rooms with there own quirks. The breakfast is huge and made to order. The place was built pre-civil war and survived the Sherman burn. Great history to be found in every room with artifacts from the Civil War and the local history is on display especially in the basement/recreation area.

My young adult son was traveling far from home and was planning to sleep in his car. I sensed that he needed to be around people so I contacted Chestnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast and spoke with Mary. Even though it was late, she was able to accommodate him. She provided my son with a cozy room and also secretly contacted me to let me know he was there and okay. So appreciated! I will always remember Mary fondly because of her genuine concern and hospitality. Thank you Mary!

We had a wonderful weekend stay at the Chestnut cottage! Ruby is seriously the best. She has created such a wonderful and inviting space for her guests, in all the various of knooks and alcoves, well designed interiors, all the way to the smile she radiates with every cup of coffee she pours during breakfast hours. She's the type of person that I could listen to all night, and it's the type of house one could get lost in the history. I had a wonderful stay, I highly recommend it. And I know exactly where i hope I'm staying, next time I'm in Columbia! πŸ‘πŸ‘thank you Chestnut!

Chestnut Cottage Bed & Breakfast was amazing. I was attending a comedy show at the Township Auditorium and this spot was literally a block away. You can see the Township Auditorium from the front porch of the house!!! The room was set up nicely and the bed was very plush! Mary was very accommodating from the moment I reserved the Garden Suite!! Will definitely be coming back to this place!

Had a great stay! We stayed in the Garden Suite room and it was a perfect space for us for one night! Mary had the room ready to go for us right when we got there. After we left, I had forgotten my glasses and called Mary and she was super helpful and found them for me and sent them in the mail. She was so sweet and awesome! Would definitely recommend!
