Weβve
just
spent
10
days
at
De
Voetpadkloof
Resort.
Lovely
weather
and
beautiful
scenery
β
with
lots
of
game
and
birdlife
to
see
on
the
walking
trails.
Unfortunately,
the
whole
experience
was
spoiled
by
the
obvious
lack
of
maintenance
and
upkeep
of
the
resort.
Whilst
one
can
understand
that,
with
the
difficulties
faced
during
the
COVID-19
pandemic,
running
a
resort
such
as
this
one,
is
challenging.
However,
this
does
not
justify
letting
the
place
go
to
pot.
After
all,
visitors
are
still
expected
to
pay
prime
rates.
Leaking
taps
and
water
pipes;
defective
lightbulbs
in
our
chalet;
conked-out
aircon
in
our
bedroom;
damaged
fridge
drawer;
broken-down
swimming
pool
furniture;
busted
decking
around
the
pool;
faulty
heating
equipment
at
a
(warm
water)
pool;
inoperative
security
lights;
broken
safety
railings
at
our
patio;
shadow
netting
at
a
car
park,
flapping
in
the
wind;
old
steel
tables
and
pool
pipes
clutter
up
the
place;
water
feature
filled
with
rotting
stagnant
water
and
mosquito
larvae.
And
on,
and
on,
and
on...
Plus,
would
you
believe
it?
One
helluva
noisy
Varanus
albigularis
(dis
βn
likkewaan,
Sakkie),
living
in
the
ceiling
of
our
chalet!
Add
to
this
the
exorbitant
prices
at
the
shop
β
where
a
small
bag
of
firewood
costs
R60.00
β
and
should
you
wish
to
defend
life
and
limb
against
the
swarms
of
mosquitoes
(of
Biblical
Plague
proportions),
you
will
have
to
fork
out
R32.00
for
a
tiny
can
of
DOOM.
And
hereβs
to
add
insult
to
injury:
at
the
Restaurant,
they
cannot
serve
milkshakes,
because:
βEish!β
they
do
not
have
ice
cream!
Are
we
planning
to
ever
visit
De
Voetpadkloof
again?
Naah...
There
are
plenty
of
other
resorts
that
still
offer
holidaymakers
value
for
their
money.
