Mbidi Resort & Animal Sanctuary

Hotel β€’ Resort hotel

😐 The place itself looks lovely but more can be done for the animals. The "sanctuary" is not as pleasing to the eye as the rest of the lodge. Hardly any shady areas for the animals, and water holes are dry or dirty. People often mention animals, water, small, care, dirty, cages, good, resort,

So disappointing!!!! Animals are neglected and some have not had appropriate medical attention. Filthy water in cages. Very unsafe with alarms of electrical fences going off and no staff pays attention to it. Bathroom facilities are disgusting. These animals deserve beter.

We took the kids to Mbidi lodge today and what a disappointment. Most of the small animals dont have water in their enclosures. Most electric fences have problems with beeping and service lights shining. We also encountered a person provoking lions and when we reported it nothing was done. Very sad. Not worth your money!!

Great place for a weekend. Staff is very friendly and nice. Rooms are small but self catering. They have pools and many other activities throughout the day. Bbq pits available to grill. Amazing birds. What I love the best is you can hear lions roaring directly outside your window throughout the night. Place overall not too fancy but still worth to see.

We went for an afternoon outing, It's good because yu can see animals up close and personal, There are a lot of lions, There's a small black bear, a cheater and a tiger, The problem is yu have to guide yourself there was no guide, A bear and tiger where difficult to spot, Lions are plenty there.

Don't go there! Absolutely disgraceful. Animals are neglected and haven't got any water. Asked the man who "cleaned" the enclosures why there's no water. Said he's busy cleaning. We were there for about 3 hours and they still had no water after he "cleaned". The tigers are skinny AF! And the some of the Lions needs emergency veterinary care. And it stinks. Honestly the place STINKS. It's disgraceful how you treat the animals. R100 p/p to look at animals whom are neglected. They deserve better.

Spent 3 days there and was definitely not worth what we paid, firstly it's like a ghost town after 4 in afternoon and only people besides us in chalets were staff who kept going in and out. Swimming pool is dirty and cages for animals are very small and not upkept. Would not recommend it to any friends or family as saw alot of other places around area which were much better.

What a disappointment! Those poor animals are so frustrated. Being fed rotten food swarming with flies. The enclosures as so small. Just close the place and give the animals to someone who can properly care for them.

Worse experience ever, dirty water, dirty place at the bar we had to start cleaning the tables and the chairs and worse part the guy by the name of Fricky or something had the nerve of chasing us away because he said the child was teasing the meerkat and he knows forsure that animal doesn't want people to pass near it instead of telling me nicely to talk to the child he told me to leave the premises or he will call the police so dissapointed but never again but big up to the receptionist she is very kind and the bar man just to think l was thinking to book for the night

I am very unhappy with our experience wanted to take my daughter to see some animals for her birthday. Most enclosures were empty - one tiger was alone and walking up and down by the fence he had no water ,there were places blocked off , the meercats are gone even phumba the pig . Couldn't go in to see the snakes and none of the path ways were maintained as we walked there were ants nests everywhere biting us, we couldn't walk anywhere we were there for half an hour and we left paid more than what the website said - I am very unhappy animals look neglected.

Me and my family were at mbidi resort for the weekend and we are very happy to see the animals are taking good care of they are big and healthy it's not true that the water bowls are empty they get water every day and get food 3 times a week the resort is quite and peaceful the staff is very friendly and they make sure you are comfortable and well sorted we go to mbidi resort up to 3 or 4 time in a year so we know how it is in mbidi resort. For daily visitors it's not right to say the animals are not in good condition you can't just look at the animals ones and say the animals are not taking care of Thank you mbidi resort for a nice wonderful weekend πŸ˜ƒ we will be singing you soon again

Had a wonderful time at Mdibi Logde today but the place is not the same as it was few years back. Back then there was meerkats and other small animals to see but today there was none. Cages and enclosures are empty (some of them). Enclosures are not kept up to standard, rubbish in the monkeys enclosure. Rubbish by the chalets scattered around. The wild cat is kept in a small enclosure which is not nice to see. Can you please look into this, I feel for those animals. The lion's looked well after but don't seem happy.

I was terribly dissapointed. First the price has gone up to R75 and the website was not correted with the new price. We were there 10 mins and asked for a refund. The grounds are badly unkept with long grass and the pool was very dirty. No sign boards to say how deep the pool is and so dirty one can't see. The animal cages are very small and unkept. They offer no pensioners discount either. Sorry to say but this place is neglected and so are the animals.

Friendly staff and the animals are in a very good condition. Some cages are a little small but they are in the process of making it larger.
