A wonderful celebration of immigration and what people bring to a new homeland. Great exhibits, explanations, a book and gift shop highlighting the benefits of difference. And all inside a shopping mall.

This museum adds so much to Lewisham shopping Centre. Free entrance, no tickets required, wheelchair accessible, toilets available. They have different exhibitions and also do workshops. Children area is great fun for kids, always organised and clean. You can purchase gifts or books at the entrance of the museum. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

An amazing experience to help put you in the shoes of those that came to live here leaving their country of birth. It really makes you think and appreciate what they went through, how difficult life was and is for them and helps us appreciate and understand the many struggles they are faced with. It makes you realise just how hard it is for them to try and settle here and become accepted. We all need a room to breath and a place to feel safe. This museum helps you appreciate just how much the struggle has been for so many, their stories are fascinating, some heartbreaking and all of them real experiences that make you think of life and how some of us are towards other people born in different places. The experience warms your heart, helps you to think differently and emphasises just how important little acts of kindness can be, making a world of difference to those that are struggling to make a new place their home. It is very well thought out and put together and certainly worth a visit.

As somebody of 'mixed descent', I found it both patronising of migrants and dismissive of the autochthonous population.

Really enjoyed this random museum, focusing on the struggle of people who moved to Britain and people moving abroad from UK. Intelligently designed, thoughtfully laid out and presented with honesty and tact. Diversity makes us stronger; Britain isn't Britain without the strength, tenacity and skills of its immigrants.

Such a wonderful small size museum. It's location within Lewisham Shopping Centre provides the local community a focal point that reflects its cultural diversity. So valuable to community relations. Wonderfully accessible and responsive to the community. Helpful and friendly staff, sensitive to the many young people that visit and groups that use the facilities.

Wonderful, interesting and moving museum! I spent the whole day exploring galleries and museums and this was the highlight of the day. It is a pity this is only a temporary location (currently in Lambeth Fire Brigade) as this site will be redeveloped; however, I do really hope they find a permanent space right where they are at the moment or within close proximity as I am keen to go back to the next exhibition. As Nine Elms is going through a regeneration process; this is the kind of culture organisation they should get involved with to bring people to the area and start creating the cultural link with Southbank.

This is a brilliant place to visit. For anyone who ever was, or knew someone who was, or is an immigrant, or who is simply interested in the stories of people who have had to leave their country of birth, it is a must. The current exhibition Room to Breathe is amazingly curated..

Really enjoyed the new exhibition on immigrant entrepreneurs. The human side really shines through behind the stories told of migrant built companies of all types and sizes. Whether itโ€™s the Costa coffee empire, or a small family owned cafรฉ. I also found the layout super creative and engaging (e.g. the section on restaurants was set up like a Chinese takeaway!!). It all felt very emotive, real and relatable. Could not recommend enough!!

This is an absolute gem. Beautifully laid out & curated. I learned loads, was profoundly moved as much as I was wholly inspired by so many rich stories of incredible talent & resilience that have arrived on the shores & decided to call the UK their home, and in doing so we have been remarkably blessed. Go see this wonderful museum

So so so good. Every story takes you in and makes you feel. Audio, visual, written its all quality. Short explainer hint at much deeper themes and people are front and centre. London can be a selfish place but this is a perfect rebuke.

It is the best museum in the entire city because it is not like any other museum in the city. Please make the effort to head to the end of the DLR and walk through Lewisham Shopping Centre, no matter who you are or where youโ€™ve come from. It fully embraces the bit of the past that people genuinely find enthralling - the stories in history. It is one of if not the most immersive museums Iโ€™ve ever stepped foot in and that coupled with the incredibly personal stories of real people, it makes for an incredibly powerful and deeply inspiring visit. You get the sense of hundreds of voices speaking about their worlds instead of a sole curatorโ€™s choice cuts from the archives. It is in my mind essential exploring for anybody interested in the complexity of humanity and the kaleidoscopic wonder of the modern world. The staff are tremendous and actively encourage the sharing and collecting of migratory stories from everybody who arrives. In terms of a museum being a place of shared experience where everyone can explore their collected histories and delve into the histories of others, than the Migratory Museum might be unparalleled. They are a small museum so donโ€™t forget to spend lots of money at the remarkably fantastic gift shop!

I visit the museum end of April 2018. Good: - Welcoming staff. - Very polite curators and we can actually talk and discuss the topics in the museum. - A place with a lot of history, where you can learn a lot. - A very good place where you can spend a few hours and learn something new. Bad: - a little bit hidden place to find. - I am not sure if there is a disabled access. Will I visit it again - yes.

I was really impressed by the migration museum, because I find it's far to easy for curators to be shaped by their prior disposition to migration. It was fairly balanced, and managed to present the migrant voice without necessarily descending into propaganda. Everything that it put was accurate, and the extra exhibit where you "walked a mile" in a migrants shoes was a great touch. It could be improved by explicitly addressing what people believe to be the downsides of some migration, but overall, was really good.

This place is amazing. Its located in a fire station. The exhibition itself was pretty small, but there's so much information, and so many items, that we spent about three hours, and only went through half the museum. There's a particularly interesting bit on tabloid headlines, stoking anger at immigrants. Go, and support the museum.

Brilliant exhibition in this hidden gem. I went to see a friend's photo in a new exhibition about skin colour. We took time to see all the exhibitions at this beautiful museum, there is so much to see and discover. As a migrant myself, it was very interesting to read so many stories of immigration, refugees, migrants, and societal challenges. It's definitely a must see for Londoners.

I found it very disappointing. First, it was difficult to find. There are no signs on the way, which is a pity. But I also found the layout confusing. There are quite a few doors, and it was not clear to me where to go and where to avoid. The exhibitions are mainly an array of anecdotes of migrants. I did not find this enticing. I could not find any figures on migrant numbers or where they settle. Also I would have liked to know more about the general experiences of migrants. Some presumably come without knowing anyone one here. That could be difficult, yet I did not get much of a sense of that. Others come to a group already here and that could also be difficult. There are lots of this about the migration process that people have in common, yet I left the exhibition without getting any sense of that. The best photographs were the big ones on the stairs outside! I would have liked a clearer focus - some of the exhibits I had no idea why they were there or what relevance they had to migration. I will not be going back.

What a refreshingly offbeat use of space in Lewishamโ€™s shopping mall between commonplace outlets like Bilko and TK Max. The museum puts a spotlight on an important untold story, that of the British leaving their country. Portraits and anecdotes of those who came to the UK alongside those who left, make for a unique and memorable experience right before you head off for your weekly Sainsbury shopping.

Very educational....happy to see something like this, and great to know they have a outreach program for the schools to tap in,let's hope it acts as a catalyst to make some changes in the UK historical curriculum, making it more diverse,to enable our future adults to be acceptable,to the so called minorities, which we all have as a part of our dna

Amazing space, very well layout. I was surprised to know the museum still doesn't have a permanent place. The subject matter covered is very important, it's not just a museum about migration is also about history. I hope they will get a permanent location soon, and also hope more people will visit. I surely will go back to discover more.

Uniquely located inside Lewisham shopping centre, this eye-opening museum is a must-see when travelling to South East London. It may be smaller than what you expect of a museum, but the content and display of information is enough to fill your brain for a good while. If you're interested in history ( especially about the impact of the British Empire on different areas of the globe), diversity and multiculturalism, then this place is for you.

It is a more like a hidden museum as it is place in between the Lewishaw shopping centre. The exhibit keep changing over a period of time but the narratives that are displayed are great. You might have to read through each displayed description to understand the story. The most interesting part was to unveil the story of big brands some famous some local that where started by migrant community that you still around and which has a big impact on the London city itself. If you are around Lewisham next time it is a nice small medium that can give you some amusing history and facts of the city.

Hidden gem in the heart of Lewisham Shopping Centre. Shines a light on the fascinating migrant origins of many British brands, businesses, and institutions, from well-known to family-owned, which have influenced history, culture and ways of life on a local, national, or even international scale. Many immersive, interactive exhibits; friendly staff; and free admission.
