You won’t regret spending several hours here, where the museum’s permanent collection covers Polish painters, contemporary artists, impressionists, as well as stained glass, religious objects and historic artifacts and goods from throughout the centuries. Collections unabashedly skewed Polish. Installations often accompanied by educational context and historical perspectives — helpful and appreciated. I was disappointed to learn a couple of the prized pieces were no longer present, notably, da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine (now at Czartoryski Museum). Regardless, great museum to visit while in Krakow!

I visited few National Museum around the world and this one was the worst. It look like something from years ago that was never renovated. Everything is so sad and old (but in the bad way). There was no indication inside to museum to let you know where you should go and what you should visit. Also be aware that you need to remove your coats and bags before visiting the museum. They will not tell you before but then will ask you very rudely to do it… In general, the staff was not friendly at all. All they do is watching every mouvement you make and shouting at you for no reason. At the end of the visit, we were shouted by an old lady who told us that we shouldn’t take THIS specific door to go out. The museum however is quite interesting even though everything is not very clear and you have no indication of what you see.

I liked the museum very much. I especially enjoyed the contemporary polish artists. They have own unusual style and big talent. I uncovered lots of new names for myself and will definitely come here again.

A wonderful museum in Krakow that contains both modern and historical artwork from Polish artists. Check the museum's website to find free admission day. There is a underground parking that is paid by the hour. Conserving energy can be seen in the garage. The light have sensors to turn on or off when it detects movements. After all the walking, there is a nice cafe for yummy pastries or savory treats.

Amazing museum! Worth to buy 6-months ticket to come back often. Convenient underground parking for 6zl/h. Souvenir shop with great selection of cool items and posters. Arrive at least 1,5h before closing to avoid queues. Definitely worth visiting!

The 2 main parts are the one about modern art and the one about furniture. I found the furniture's one a bit boring and dark. The other floor is, on the contrary, beautiful, full of paintings, and sculptures both modern and contemporary

There was a short line that we had to stand in before we bought our tickets. The normal ticket only allows you into two exhibits on the top floor and 2nd floor, but the tickets are only about $7-$10 USD and are well worth it. The exhibits are separated into multiple sections; one for paintings, one for sculpture, and others for ceramics, furniture, clothing, religious artifacts, glassware, musical instruments, etc. You are allowed to take photos, but no flash photography. Big coat/jackets and any bags are required to be checked into a locker in the coat room downstairs. Free lockers are available to lock your things away. Also, if you're coming here to see the Da Vinci painting 'Lady with an Ermine' like I did, double-check that it's even here in the first place. It apparently wasn't here when I came and is located at the Princes Czartoryski Museum a few blocks away. I think it travels back and forth occasionally between this Museum, the Czartoryski Museum, and I think a third museum, too.

National Museum in Cracow (The Main Building) houses at present exclusively The Gallery of Decorative Art, which is extremely interesting but a little bit disappointing if you expected to see paintings by Wyspianski, Mehoffer, Chelmonski and Boznanska and other Polish masters. I’ve learned at the box offfice (but at the museum website), that the paintings cannot be seen now because they are in the storehouse.

This place is huge, I couldn't really do justice to it in an hour. I was amazed how quiet it was today, more staff there than visitors. I only saw a couple of others in the whole time I was there. Perhaps this is because it is a little way out from the Old Town. On the second floor you have a great collection of Polish contemporary art, I loved the impressionist collection. On the First floor you have a fine array of decorative arts including Antique Furniture, Renaissance Pottery and Gold/Silver work.

An extensive collection of historic Polish artifacts and goods, and entrance is free on Tuesdays. The museum would benefit from more detailed descriptions of the items, however.

Fantastic place if you like queuing. A snake of a queue lasting at least 45 minutes to buy confusing multiple tickets. Then queuing again for the compulsory cloakroom for another half an hour. The main exhibitions were mostly modernism from XX and XX1 century. Found an interesting description of which styles of modernism started where. Seems it mostly came from Russia. The older exhibits were an odd hodge podge of artefacts with seemingly no link or story to their display ie chess pieces next to glassware and dresses and chalices. Descriptions available in Polish and English. You can buy tickets online from the website which we discovered when half way through the queue.

Chanced upon the Hokusai exhibition whilst in Krakow recently. The lighting was terribly poor, to the point where it became impossible to read the information on the exhibit labels unless taking a photo and enlarging it or manipulating the brightness and contrast to read the text on the phone screen. The gallery shop and café were open on a Saturday, but the café was a tad depressing, with someone serving behind the counter who clearly didn’t want to be there.

Interesting museum about Polish history and art. Big enough to spend an hour or two. We went on a Tuesday afternoon meaning free entrance to the permanent exhibitions which was nice. Worth a visit if you're spending a few days in Krakow.

Just to be aware the arms and armour exhibition is closed for renovations until 2023. Still worth a visit but, good to know. The arms and armour rooms at Wawel Castle are brillant if that is your thing.

To make it clear, the exhibit was great. The staff is the reason that my critique is low. When I asked for two tickets, they just gave me the tickets, no further instruction. We waited for one hour and a half because the queue was long. At the end of the queue they informed us that for the exhibition we've been waiting we needed an additional ticket, and our purchased tickets were for the rest of the museum. So, we waisted so long for nothing. The problem was that they didn't know English. This is unacceptable for a national museum, with paintings by painters from all around Europe. The worthless waiting totally ruined our experience in the museum.

Went there only to see the Lady with an Ermine, by Leonardo da Vinci, that was recently acquired by polish government. As a bonus the ticket included 3 more exhibits that are there. I was pleasantly surprised to see what this museum had to offer, old weapons from various ages, handmade dishes, jewelry and so many different stuff I am not even sure how to call, but really awesome. Strongly advised for casual visits, there is a souvenir shop and a small cafe inside.

The National Museum in Kraków offers a rich collection of works of art of Polish, European and non-European artists. The museum is among the most important and most interesting museums, not only in Poland but in the world. There is a great deal of history related to past wars, preserved uniforms, artifacts, as well as modern art. We found it interesting and intriguing. I especially enjoyed their exhibit on Life in America, circa 2018.

The national museum is rather nice, and has a good selection of art pieces. However, nothing there is that new to me. I have seen similar stuff in other places as well. All in all, it's a good place to go to and get to know Poland's art history and such ☺️ I guess my favorite part was the old objects from the medieval times, and some paintings from the impressionism era.

(Translated by Google) The Main Building of the National Museum in Krakow was under construction for 55 years, it was only finished in 1989. During the war, the Germans arranged a casino in the unfinished building. The building has 3 floors, three permanent exhibitions and periodic temporary exhibitions. It houses a pleasant café, a souvenir shop, a cloakroom. Free admission to the permanent exhibitions is Tuesday. It is worth visiting this Museum regularly - a feast for the eyes and spirit :). The National Polish Museum is located in ugly soviet style building that makes you think about dark years of polish history. But I really liked the collection. Frankly speaking I knew nothing about Polish modern and contemporary art before. I think that this museum has a really nice collection of Polish impressionism and expressionism. It is really worth visiting

A museum that enriches knowledge of Polish paintings, sculpture and art. I particularly liked the early c20 art with contemporary photos and descriptions/explanations. A long wait at the cafe so reluctantly did not eat there but the food looked great

Big museum complex, which contains permanent and temporary exhibitions. We bought tickets for permanent. The historical part was a bit boring, dark and not so interesting, but the part of modern and new polish art was good. Big space, a lot of lights, historical context explanations, QR code guide to audio descriptions. Places to sit and rest a bit everywhere. Comfortably contains big crowds. Clear big bathroom, and a coffee shop on the ground floor. Helpful staff.

We're in town to see the amazing Lempicka exhibition. Hard to believe they could assemble all of these works of art to the NMK. Sublime! And that green dress!

Much better than expected. Great history of Polish modern art for the 20th and 21st century. Lots of space in the gallery and a huge amount of work to see. The building is also worth visiting for its architectural presence, material, and stature, although my photo does not capture this! Otherwise, all round great place to visit.

There is nothing to comment - it's a must visit place. It's one of the main Kraków museums and centers of art, with brilliant permanent exhibition, precious temporary exhibitions, events held on regular basis. Also do not underestimate branch museums - all of them are much worth visiting. It's gem of international significance.

I can here on the free day, Tuesday, I arrived around 16:30 (it closes at 18:00) and it was very quite. There were two exhibitions which were free, on the first floor on decorate art and 2nd floor on polish artists, both were excellent and would highly recommend, was there for over an hour, worth popping in if you have the time.

The museum houses an amazing collection of pictures of Polish painters, many of them are just stunning. In each room there's information about artists and various art styles in which they worked. If we had more time we would definitely spend in the museum a whole day :) Regular ticket is 35 zl, ticket for pupils costs 1 zl only :)

Visited on a Sunday with no queue. Building is big with an entrance ticket of 32 zł plus 7 zł for audioguide. Art gallery is included, which is good to have a better idea of the culture of the city. Cannot give five stars because it is not written anywhere the number to press when you enter a room, so you have to guess and spend time wondering around.

  • 4/5 Deniz Y. 1 year ago on Google
First of all, there are different tickets according to the prices and different levels according to these tickets. We are students so we bought a discounted student ticket for 1 zloty. After you enter through the main gate, there are attendants who check tickets at the gates of the sections inside the museum. This is how we understood the ticket issue with different levels according to the different prices that I mentioned at the beginning, because we were not taken because our tickets did not have entrance qualifications for almost 3 out of 5 sections. Frankly, I found this system very silly and came across it for the first time. I have visited the Warsaw and Wroclaw national museums before, and they did not have such a distinction. I hope the museum administration understands the importance of allowing students and young people to learn history and art to allow them to travel without such limitations. As for the museum in general, I will only comment on the parts I visited, since I could not visit 3/5 of it. Compared to the Warsaw Museum it was quite small and had fewer pieces. The works of independent and surrealist artists were given a lot of space.

Big place, a lot to see, seasonal galleries, large parts free of charge. Legs will hurt. Just maybe better signage about cloakroom and bag rules. After we reached 2nd floor we were asked to go back to the basement to leave bags. Free of charge as well.

Except for one of the employees who started to throw us out of the room 10 minutes before the scheduled technical break, which unfortunately was very persistent. Stunning historical pieces. If you're in any way historically inclined, the National Museum in Kraków is an absolute must-see. As it's situated outside the Old Town, the majority of the rabble doesn't make it that far and so the viewing experience is pleasantly quiet. There's a lot to see in the permanent exhibits alone; enough to fill half a day if you're the type to read about the articles and really take it all in.

The part that is open is wonderful, BUT some place you would think that it would be mentioned (on the main web site or even at the museum ) that the weapons and uniforms permanent exhibit is closed until who knows when !!!! This was possibly my only chance to visit Poland

categorically do not recommend! if you buy a regular ticket 32!!!! zł you will find furniture and old clothes and household items. the staff is extremely unfriendly! please note that you can’t even take water into the hall with you, I feel humiliated when they said that you can’t even take essential things, people with disabilities are not welcome here! grandpa came down the steps to the dressing room. and deceived, but I think this money will go to pay those who need it !! cafe is not bad in the museum there is something to eat. it’s a pity it’s forbidden to take pictures. The photo would show that you don’t grow spiritually and culturally. visiting this place unless you just want to kill time the staff is very unfriendly hope this will help the management of this place .

We went on one of the free days they have here for museums in the city. BUT this "free" only extends to the permanent exhibitions and NOT to the others. Despite that, there are floors 1 and 2 to visit. And they really have something for everyone there. The usual museum things such as old clothes, stones, pots etc. but then it goes on to classic, beautiful old clocks and pottery and glassware. Slightly more inspired, you go on to floor two, the art. And what a feast for the eyes! Many eras of Polish art from the old, traditional portraits right through to the more contemporary modern and abstract art! AND even some animated video art! Really great it turned out to be even though it started off slowly and rather boringly.

They have an incredible fixed exposition with many objects from the 14th until 19th centuries. I spent 2 hours there and could see only this three expositions I mentioned, once the museum is huge. Very disappointed after arriving for a temporary exhibition of Lempicka's art, only to be told that there was an additional 1-2 hrs waiting to see it (no mention on the website about that!). Luckily I did not purchase the ticket ahead of arriving there, otherwise I would have missed my train home. National Gallery, you should advise people in advance of such circumstances on your website.
