Polish Village Cafe is an iconic restaurant in Hamtramck. Serving Polish food for decades, it’s provided Polish people with a taste of home in a unique basement eating area as well as their upstairs private event room. I recommend the Dill pickle soup, potato pancakes and the pierogis. Cash preferred restaurant, Fee Free ATM in lobby)

A Detroit stable in hamtramck. Authentic polish food and it was very very busy so the food can't be bad. I would get the half and half for appetizers, meatballs, stuff cabbage , polish sausage for entree. Don't get the garlic chicken because it is far from anything about garlic chicken. It is just a plain fried chicken cutlets. Try the polish beer too, seems like everyone was drinking that

The Polish Village Cafe is a Detroit landmark! You have to try this place for authentic polish food! Everything is delicious so I always get the polish plate, just a little bit of everything! Their dill pickle soup is out of this world! Make sure to bring cash! You can use your card if over $50

Our first time at the Polish Village Cafe which was highly recommended by my son and daughter-in-law. Very busy place on a late Saturday afternoon but the gentleman taking down names and cleaning tables was very efficient. Our wait was not long, and we were taken care of very well during our stay. Variety of food on the menu was good and prices were very reasonable. We came for the Perogies, and we were not disappointed. We also enjoyed the Tyskie beer. Overall, a great time but please remember this is a "Cash Only" facility but they do have an ATM on site. If you are looking for authentic Polish food and beer, check out the Polish Village Cafe, you won't be disappointed.

Super busy. Love the decor. Waitress was sooo busy. Too busy for drink refills which made me sad, but no worries. Had the you pick two entrees and chose the garlic chicken and mushroom cutlet. I opted for double saurkraut instead of the green beans. The mushroom cutlet was very good. There was a hidden taste I could quite pinpoint that really popped with flavor and was great. Both were breaded which I didn't expect so I tell you this just in case. I would have steered away. My son went for the assorted pierogis with a side cup of dill pickle soup. Luckily, I was able to taste the soup, which was very similar to potato and quite delicious. An ice cold beer should be on your list when dining here. Just saying.

Food is soooo good!!! Had my heart set on city chicken….WITHOUT gravy….and that’s how they serve it!!!! All other “Polish” restaurants that we’ve been to have gravy & that is just WRONG!!! This was perfect, & all their meat is so tender!!! Knives are optional, only!!!’ We will definitely be back!!!!!

Amazing polish/slavic cuisine. Stuffed cabbage cooked to perfection. Beet soup was just like grandma's. I ordered the polish plate which comes with saurkraut, stuffed cabbage kielbasa potatoes and some piergogies. The piergoies were great they had that really eastern euro style. I tried the 7 layer cake, whicj if you have a sweet tooth is perfect as it is very sweet. There pastry chef is amazing. Hands down the best polish cuisine in metro detroit. Waitstaff is very friendly. You'll love this place!

CASH ONLY with ATM inside. Their soups and pierogis are outta this world. The group favorite was the keilbasa soup, but all soups were delicious. The mains were a bit bland but good, the sides that comes with the mains are disappointing. The pepper in the shaker is good.

This place is authentic & clearly full of history! The first thing you see is a basket full of a variety of bread that you can't help but reach for as soon as you sit down. The soup was soothing, and potato & cheese pierogi was so delicious! The highlight was a unique kind of schnitzel. I loved the special experience this place provided. Also very reasonable price. Highly recommend this place!

This place is awesome! I started off with chicken noodle soup which had good chicken flavour but didn't have enough chicken. The next dish I had was a mixed pierogi. Two with potato's and cheese, two with sauerkraut and two with meat. All three were delicious! My main course was the stuffed cabbage. It was really good and really satisfying. The flavor of the sauce on top was nice and the filling was moist and flavourful. The sides were okay the mashed potatoes were good and the green beans were cooked pretty well. Overall 4 outta 5. Very enjoyable experience.

--2023-09-01 Never having polish food before it was really good. Some things I would get again would be their cheddar perogies and mash potatoes with gravy. See the photos for the food my family and I ate.

Polish food done perfect. I've been a long time eater of Polish food. Most of my life it hasn't been a good experience. Polish Village has undone years of food truama. This is THE food. Home made with love and smothered in gravy and red sauce. From perogies to potato pancakes, you can't go wrong. The staff are also Incredibly friendly and helpful. Truly one of the best eateries In all of Detroit.

Great neighborhood restaurant with old time charm. It is located in the basement level and has a very cozy atmosphere. The food is authentic and makes you reminisce about a meal that you had growing up. The staff is attentive and makes the experience even more enjoyable. Can get busy and people don't mind standing in line. It's worth the wait.

Food was hot & delicious. Service was excellent Got there around 5:30, was not to busy. Filled up after 6 as people got off work. Road repairs didn't help but patrons figured it out. Glad to see they are so busy. This place is a real gem ! Worth the trip .PEACE I wish they would remove the parking meter system from the lot. Hard to enjoy your meal when you're watching the clock.

Great old world feel and dive bar ambiance. Polish plate with a side of potato pancakes is a must have. Not a huge fan of tomato sauce in my kraut though.

Love the food here! Best Polish food in Hamtramck in my opinion. Came in for lunch and had the mixed pierogi with a cup of dill pickle soup. Husband had the Polish platter. Food came out fast and was amazing as always. Great service and atmosphere. Cash only or credit card can be used for orders of at least $50. An ATM is located right outside the door if you forget to bring cash.

I love going to the Polish Village Cafe, and if you like Polish food you will too. I always enjoy eating in a non national chain restaurant and have menus selections of different cultures. I also like supporting the small business owner. I gave it an 4 on atmosphere only because it is a very old restaurant and it shows. But I was considering giving it a 5 because I appreciate/enjoy restaurants with character. So it is a 5 for me. But if you like new professionally designed restaurants I wanted you to know what to expect.

Pretty cool spot! Definitely a nice place to check out some local polish cuisine. I had hoped for meat in their soup offerings though. Majority were broth based. It was the chicken soup & pickle soup 🍲 that bright me to try them out. I just love fried pickles! 🥒 They don't have em fried, but the pickled soup is worth checking out!

Wow!!! All I can say is if you like traditional Polish food and truly genuine and fun waitstaff, eat here!! It'll take time to be seated and to get your order taken, but this is NOT a fast food joint, its homemade delights....so once thats done, everything is fast and delicious!!! Perogies, stuffed cabbage, City chicken, schnitzel, potato pancakes....and the 7 sister's cake - we got one slice to share because we were so full and then we fought over it!!!

Great food but the restaurant was very hot, no AC at all & it was 85 outside. We almost left after walking in the door due to the heat but we drive 30 minutes to get there so decided to stay. They were very short staffed, but the servers were working hard to try to take care of everyone. The food was really good, but a lot of it was cold. Our server apologized because it had been left too long waiting for her to pick up. They don't have a microwave so we had to eat it cold. She offered to replace the items, but we waited 45 minutes to get what we had & by that time the heat was getting to us. We just wanted to go. I was also disappointed in the cleanliness. We have visited this place a few times a year for as long as I can remember. It needs some upkeep. It was cluttered, tables were packed in too close in the times of COVID. There was only one working unisex restroom & it was in questionable condition. There was a line to wait to use it. As much as we love the food, it will be awhile before we visit again.

Good food very friendly service. Be aware they prefer cash. The schnitzel was my favorite in the three meat plate I got. The beet soup was very good.

It was great! My wife is of Polish descent, and we have been wanting good Polish food for a while now. This fit the bill! We get some homemade from my mother-in-law, and this was just as good. My wife and son both got the Polish combination plate. They had enough food for dinner and for leftovers for another day. I got the schnitzel and it was so good I cleaned my plate. Our waitress had some good suggestions on food and drink and was certainly hustling to take good care of us. We definitely want to go back again!

My daughter in-law thought this would be a good place to take us on our visit to Detroit and I was so impressed. This food reminded me of my childhood and my grandmothers cooking. Schnitzel, Pierogi, Potato Pancake & Pierogies, Smoked Kielbasa, cabbage and pickle soup. We had a large group and tried it all. Our server was a very spunky lady who we were told had been working here for 43 years. She set us straight on a few things. May turn off some but remained me of my great aunt. Awesome food and beer choices. Great service. Can’t wait to return.
