The most impressive part of visiting Hatchlands is the collection of instruments in the house. Mostly pianos and related keyboard instruments. For an extra £2.00 you can get an audio guide with recordings of many of these instruments. On the day we were there, a lot of repairs were being done inside and out. Refreshments in the coffee shop was not really pleasant with all the noise from the workers' tools. One part of the building is also covered in scaffolding, so not a great time to get good photographs of the house. Hopefully we will be able to come back when all the repairs are completed. There are lots of walking paths around the place, and some picnic sites.

There's lots to do here for a great short family day out. The gardens are beautiful if not huge and amazing in spring. It's not really my taste of house as it felt quite dark and claustrophobic with a lot of stuff in every room. It's great if you like pianos as there's lots throughout the house with an information booklet on them. There's 2 cafés, 1 more for cups of tea and cake and 1 more for lunch items. The park is large with some lovely waymarked walking routes going around it.

This is a very nice location to visit. The house itself belong to national trust, however, the furniture and painting and pianos are all belong to the original owner. The paiting are mostly from 16th and 17th. There is painting of Shakespear which was painted whrn he was alive and it's the most realistic one. There are 49 pianos there. Even you can find one of Chopin's pianos there which is still working. The surroundings around the main building is beautiful. There is a pond with some benches which you can enjoy. A cafe and toilet can be found close to the main building. The parking is free, there is another reserved parking before the main one.

Hatchlands Park is a red-brick country house with surrounding gardens in East Clandon, Surrey. Lord Rendel bought Hatchlands Park from the Sumner family in 1888, he made many changes to the house and gardens and his family continued to live here until the late 1950s. It’s now owned by National Trust. There are couple of cafes and a second-hand bookshop. Few small attractions for kids. There was enough parking space. Entry and parking is free for the national trust members. I feel in summers this parking space may not be enough and I did not notice any overflow car parking spaces around. Please see my pictures for the rates, map and for an idea on what to expect.

Lovely park, well signposted. Nice café area and plenty of seating. Lanes are good for buggies but the woodland park can get very muddy. Toilets are available in the main courtyard and are clean and spacious. Baby change/disabled toilets available. Emphasis on sustainability with reusable cups and compostable cutlery etc. Dogs are able to go in on leads. Woodland playground up near the treehouse. Only thing to remember is that I did not see many/any bins around the park.

It's a privately let residence, so no pictures inside the house, which is disappointing. The house is gorgeous and well maintained. It's not the biggest National Trust House, so you could see the whole downstairs area really quickly, but we always enjoy admiring the artwork and musical pieces. The volunteers are kind and friendly. On this occasion, one of them was playing the organ. It really was amazing. There is a cafe on site. The gardens are gorgeous and have lots of wild areas for beautiful walks. There is an adorable pond. The

Great National trust place to come to enjoy long walks with different trails. Extra joy for kids with built playground area in the woods. Grazing stock in the fields, so make sure to keep your dogs on the lid at all times. Little cafe there with some cakes, choice of light snacks and drinks. Unfortunately, the house, which was built in 1756, was closed as carently undergoing some repairing. So, it will be another trip for us to discover another piece of history. Definitely recommend it!

Nice stately home in the middle of very nice parkland... This is the general theme of many a National Trust place... It's a good formula... What's different here though: well inside the house are many many piano's. The house is still lived in, but you can walk around much of the ground floor, with some beautifully ornate ceilings. The parkland is vast for a good several mile walk, rewarded with coffee and cake at the higher end of NT pricing!

Another beautiful site from National Trust. Stunning gardens, gorgeous flowers, beautiful spots to stroll, but sadly the house is closed on Saturdays, and the info wasn't clearly specified on the website. Still, a perfect place to chill and enjoy and highly recommended!

Fab views and walks for you and your dog 🐕. There is a cafe but I didn't use it, it's situated in a courtyard with very pleasant surroundings. Dogs are not allowed in the house but I purely went their for the walk. As always I find the National Trust staff so friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

If you are a National trust member it's free to park and enter, otherwise it's £11 to go into the grounds. The house isn't open year around so check before traveling, but the walk is nice and peaceful. The cafe on site is really good, and recommended the spicy cauliflower pasty!

One of the most beautiful places in Surrey for walks, picnics and general exploring. Loads of beautiful sights, greenery, trees, hills, plants and views, etc. A must visit if one has not been here before. Would come back.

It’s a huge estate located on the edge of the beautiful and stunning Surrey Hills, and also not too far from the charming Shere village. The house is now a family home to Alec Cobble’s and his family who use it to entertain musical concerts on the weekends. Alec Cobbe’s passion for keyboards and piano collection as well as many of his family heritage like paintings and fine furniture makes this place come to life. If you want to find Europe’s largest collection of keyboard instruments which once belonged to famous composers like JC Bach, Chopin and Elgar, and many others, this is the place to visit. The coffee shop was a real treat, but their scones were dreadful.

It's a lovely place to walk around,on a nice day. Also managed to look inside the beautiful house that's situated in the grounds, which had very high interesting seilings and lots of different pianos. No photos were aloud to be taken of inside the house.

So far my children's favorite day out and I can see why. The staff were lovely. They spoke kindly and interacted brilliantly with my kids. There was a huge variety of things to do... the wooden play area to climb around, the wooded area to play in, the hill to run up, the sheep to watch, the Cafe to eat in, the house to do a scavenger hunt round and the lawn to play games on. I feel like we will be going back soon.

A sweet place in Guildford. Owned by the national trust but privately rented. The house houses an amazing and phenomenal collection of art and statuary, but the highlights are the historical musical instruments. Featuring instruments from the 1580s through to early 1900s , it is an impressive collection. Includes Chopin's piano. You can only see part of the house as it is a private residence and as a private collection, you can't take photos. Grounds are gorgeous with varied walks. Cafe and second hand bookshop on site. Do go visit!

The thing about Hatchland's, is it feels like a farm and is surrounded by farms. As usual, with all the National Trust sites I've had the pleasure of visiting, the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I'm on the fence about "amenities", however, because somewhere serving hot drinks would be nice, washrooms are few (one?) and the signposting is confusing, which ought not be the case, as it's a much smaller site than most. As such, It's perfect for a couple hours, not really loads to see, though the buildings are closed at the moment and will open in Match 🙌🏼🙌🏻

Went very early it was chilly so did not get the most out of my visit. Will go again and walk the extensive grounds and go in the house. Two lovely cafes open with fab food choices 😋 I love NT cakes 🥮

Great walk in the woods. Good selection of food from the cafe. Donkeys in the forecourt. Percy the park keeper trail for the kids.

Lovely walk and play trail for children. The donkeys are not to be missed. Lovely cafe. The cows are super cute and friendly.

A wonderfully Christmassy day! The trail for kids was very cleverly thought out and very interactive and the displays in the house were really engaging. My daughter (7) asked to go round again!

A brilliant place to visit for the day, with lots to do for everybody. I was surprised at how much there was for children to do. Reasonably priced entry for the amount included. One of the best NT places in the area.

Welcomed by a very pleasant volunteer, who told us a little about the property and pointed us I the right direction! Visited the Kitchen café first for scones and coffee which we ate in the courtyard. Then it was time to visit the house, just six ground floor rooms, crammed with antique forte pianos. An interesting and relaxed visit.

The house is fantastic, there's only 6 rooms to visit but all very interesting. Housing a total of 45 pianos and harpsichords. Well worth a visit

Nice winter walk around the perimeter of the estate. Very popular with families. Need to have a look inside next time.

  • 4/5 Emily R. 11 months ago on Google
Only visited to take photos of the flowers in the garden, but we were fortunate to find the house was open to the public. They currently have a collection of pianos on display, and the house is stunning, with every wall covered in paintings. I felt like I was in my element. The staff were all knowledgeable and friendly, and it was a very pleasant visit. We usually visit the park to walk our dogs and it's a nice easy walk if you're looking for somewhere new to take your pups. We also found our way round to the 18th century Ice House, which was very interesting to see. It has an EXCELLENT echo if you're a local singer looking for somewhere with those creepy, echoey acoustics. We weren't allowed to take photos inside the house, so you'll just have to visit yourself, but I'll add some photos of the flowers from their garden.

The house is now open with covid compliance in place. Rained today, but didn't spoil the park walk. The trees and plants are starting to open up and all looking splendidly green. Bluebells are still in bloom. Cafe and second-hand book shop are open. Have been seeing the grounds transformed from bare, cold and bracing winter to wonderful green spring with the promise of a splendid summer.

Pleasant place to walk around. The gardens in front of the house are well kept with a lovely traditional English country garden vibe. The grounds are nice for walk with sweeping views and slightly misleading signage. Found a lovely pond with water lilies in bloom and watched a flock of sheep being terrified by a loose dog in the field. Please keep your dogs on lead near livestock.

Had a pleasant walk in the park, the donkeys were lovely to see as the children loved them. Small play area was a hit. Visited the cafe at 1.30pm and was really disappointed by the lack of choice and the fact that the staff had little idea what they actually had for sale. My son asked for a cheese and onion pasty and wasn't impressed that he was given a meat one instead. I member of staff was saying all were cheese, the other disagreeing they were all meat. The cafe was also not busy at all so was a little upset that a cheese toasted sandwich took nearly 40 minutes to arrive. Everyone else in my family had finished all their food before mine arrived. The cafe experience could be vastly improved. Wouldn't recommend it based on today.

Many precious pianos and painting in the house. Staffs are very friendly and helpful, always ready to provide detailed information about the house. Parking is not a problem even in weekends. It’s free, if you are a national trust member.

We really enjoyed our winter walk trail in Hatchlands park. A beautiful place with so much to explore. The house had scaffoldings but that didn’t stop anyone from entering and enjoying the musical and art displays. Kids enjoyed the Christmas trail, hot chocolate and sausage rolls from the cafe. Excellent kids friendly place.

Great place to visit. Walks around the grounds are great with plenty of countryside to see. The house is amazing and cafe and shops are also good

  • 4/5 Giles H. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful area for walking. Clean air. Quiet. Would have been 5 stars except that the house is closed on Saturdays and neither the website or Google stated this. Would have come Sunday if we'd've known.

  • 5/5 Pawel M. 1 year ago on Google
Despite the name there is a house to visit, with an impressive collection of pianos and organs. One of the oldest is from 1580, about a 100 years before Bach was born. There is one which belonged to Chopin and one used by Mozart, and many more. You can't play the pianos, but you might get lucky to play one of the organs. The history of the house and the collection is also interesting and the staff very helpful. There is a cafe, book shop and toilets, and if you have time then walks around the countryside.

Lovely grounds for walking or playing games in the garden. Say hello to the donkeys or grab a tasty treat in the cafe. Perfect for a few hours escape from busy lives.
