They’re open !! Yay! If you are craving Austrian cuisine then I highly recommend this place. The place is charming. Staff is friendly. The food is deliiiiiicious! I suggest you start with the Burrata and for the main you have to have the Weiner Schnitzel and the Grill Branzino. They’re know for their Schnitzels so you have to try them. Check this place out! It’s close to the 1,R,W and 4,5 trains do very close to most subways. This is also a few blocks away from the WTC.

Nice ambiance, cute restaurant. Amazing food. Got a trout Tartare and weiner schnitzel, the pork one, and it was to die for. I would definitely recommend, especially if you’re in FiDi. Gotta come back asap!

Restaurant week brought me in and I’m so incredibly thrilled to have found this spot ! Love the banquet style table set up . The burger was out of this world and cooked perfectly . Also had some of the best service I’ve had in ages . The waiter was fantastic and his back up helper was also very friendly and attentive . You feel like you are in an old country farmhouse . Except it’s clean ; ) I’d make a reservation because even during lunch it’s busy , once you go you’ll understand why !

Came here for lunch on a Monday (around 1pm) and was able to walk in without needing reservation. We got the schnitzel (tried pork and chicken) and also the apple schtrudel, they were all delicious! The schnitzels also came with 3 sides, so it was a good amount of food even if you are very hungry. I also loved the vibe of this space. I will definitely be back for dinner!

***3 1/2 stars*** Schilling has been on my radar for a few months, and somehow manages to be off the beaten path while being only a block or two from the 9/11 Memorial area (part of that is because it's on a street with limited car traffic and is submerged by a lot of construction/scaffolding right now). My Skipper and I came by for lunch yesterday a little after 1pm. Despite its subtle location and some atrocious weather (rain in the 40s is my least favorite of all time), the place was surprisingly hopping, with more than half the tables occupied. The interior space is adorable, and we were both fans. There's a lot of barn-like wood, and the Skipper noted a very cool ceiling situation - it has slated boards with lighting underneath them, so it looks like there's someone up in the attic. Not sure I've seen that before. And while this is definitely not the kind of place that promotes its bar area above the more formal sit-down crowd, it's also very pleasant to look at. It reminded me almost of a manger. I'd studied the menu pretty intently beforehand and settled on the Spätzle ($25) as my entree. Delicious. I was a little apprehensive about the inclusion of broccoli rabe but it didn't deter from the dish. I loved how cheesy it was; it was almost like having an edgy/exotic mac and cheese. The texture was excellent - the fried onions on top give it a nice crunch, and I think the Spätzle overall would have been almost too squishy without it. Nice touch. And despite appearances, this wasn't a giant meal; the skillet it was served in was very shallow, so I could have eaten the entire thing easily. We ran into an issue though when we tried to order drinks. Schilling should definitely fix this on their website (their social media pages are clearer), but the menu page on there indicates that on Fridays and Saturdays, the wine is half off. It turns out that what they actually mean is that the wine is half off IF you buy an entire bottle; it doesn't apply to glasses. That surprised both of us, especially since by the glass, this place is very overpriced. Even in this neighborhood, it's not hard to find a decent glass of wine for $11 or $12 (and often cheaper than that). However, Schilling charges around $16 for theirs. Once we realized that there weren't discounts for the glasses of wine, we shifted our focus to the cocktails, which were also overpriced. There's no way you're getting me to purchase a cocktail for over $20 unless it's an establishment that's exclusively selling itself as a high-end mixology place; this is a restaurant, and there were several drinks on the menu that were $22 or so. Since the wine was so expensive though, it wasn't hard to justify paying $18 for their cheapest cocktails on the menu. That turned out to be moot though - the waitress apologetically told us the specialty cocktails weren't available until dinnertime. It wasn't clear if that was simply part of the business model or the bartender called out, but that was disappointing. The service was honestly mediocre. Part of that was likely because our waitress was the only one working the front, handling probably six to seven tables, I'd guess, but the two times her absence was significantly felt? She was just hanging out behind the bar on her phone. I literally had to walk around the bar to personally hand her my credit card. Again, if we were waiting for a long time because she was overwhelmed with her tables, that would be one thing, but that's just lazy and inattentive service and hampered the experience. That was unfortunate because solely based on the food, this was very positive. I'm glad I tried this one but the solid food can't ultimately make up for the price point and substandard service.

Fun spot in FiDi with very good vibes. I showed up at 6 on a Thursday and was seated immediately. Our hostess (was also working the bar) was extremely nice and was very helpful with the menu. I had the pork schnitzel and it was good. The breading didn’t really stick too well but it was still good!

I visited this resturant with a friend of mine who is a huge fan of Austurian cuisine. We came here to try both schnitzel and apple strudel. Additionally, we ordered trout rilettes after getting a recommendation from our waitress. Unfortunately, this food was below my expectations. First, the trout rilettes were so salty that we could not finish. The schnitzel was not crispy enough. The only thing we liked was the desert. However, the ambiance is pretty good. You can have a nice time with your friends. Another note for the resturant is that they should find a solution for the outside door. It keeps banging and is quite annoying for the people having food inside.

Overall good food, great service, nice presentation, have vegan options, decent portions and prices but the restaurant is quite packed and you will likely feel/get nudged by fellow guests. We had frittatensuppe (noodle soup with blue oyster mushrooms, great flavor and taste), chicken liver mousse (with the most amazing apple, toast and some jam, everything paired amazingly well) for appetizers. The apple strudel was also very good and came with a sweet cream and ice cream. The main highlight of schnitzel was a disappointment. Flat breaded and fried meats have a lot of flavoring potential due to high surface area to volume but both the pork and chicken schnitzel we had didn't have much flavor. Good texture but it was something we weren't quite happy about.

This was our second time going here and it lived up to the memory of the first. This was from their Valentine’s Day pre fixed menu so can’t say if these will be on the regular menu but still stand as a testament to the quality of their food and the attention to detail of every single thing they serve you. The shrimp appetizer was more in line with ceviche, it was excellent; must get it if it’s on the menu. Sea bass and steak entree were good, portions could’ve been a bit bigger. The restaurant is a very small space which makes it that much more impressive what they’ve done with it. Unfortunately don’t have a picture but very creative.

The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was the highlight! From the appetizer to main course to dessert, every morsel of food they brought out was delightful! They do amazing things with asparagus and the Austrian dishes made you feel like you were there. We highly recommend!

The Schnitzel is awesome! You can have it as a pork or chicken Schnitzel. It comes with a lecker Cucumber-Salad. One thing I didn't like: They serve Kölsch in the wrong glass. But they have imported Kölsch. Gaffel.

Jawohl! What a fantastic find! This little place might be my new favorite German/Austrian spot in NYC! A cozy nook near Wall St, it's more upscale and less traditional than your typical schnitzel eatery. Instead, this place shines when it comes to the menu. While limited, it lists the standard Wienerschnitzel and a veggie Spätzle, as well as many other non-traditional Austrian options, including a lot of vegetarian-friendly dishes. Everything was fantastisch. The schnitzel (I got the chicken) was fried to perfection and the Green Tomatoes were spectacular, along with all of the (cucumber salad and potato salad) sides, which were great variations on the theme. They were very accommodating and helpful in ordering and the service was super friendly throughout our meal. I was stuffed after the main course (the schnitzel is huge!) but it was so delicious that I couldn't say no to dessert. They had Apfel- (apples) and Topfen- (cheese) streudel so I opted for the cheese. It was, kein Witz, the *best* streudel I've ever had. Seriously. With a side of ice cream and Sahne, on a plate of vanilla cream, and topped with strawberries, I involuntarily smiled with every bite. GET DESSERT. My only regret is that I've only just discovered this Austrian gem after living in NYC for so long. We'll definitely be planning some return visits, even if just for some small bites. Hope to see you there! Guten Appetit!

Excellent menu that changes seasonally, great tasting Austrian fare with a twist. We were there for an 8pm reservation for 3 on a Thursday evening. The place was bustling, so it took about 10+ minutes to get seated. The service staff was wonderful and even the chef was clearing out tables. The ambiance was great; A couple of blocks down from the 9/11 memorial and the Oculus, Schilling is housed in what seems like a carriage house of 1920s NYC, with interesting industrial touches and curious decor. There's outdoor enclosed plus sidewalk tables plus the street wall is actually a large glass garage door that was closed for the cold. Looking forward to returning when in FiDi.

Came here twice in two weeks, both for work dinners. I love the ambience, it's so homey. Service is also very attentive. Had schnitzel first time then burger. Schnitzel was good but made me realize I don't think I have the palette for Austrian good. Switched to burger the second time and it was a winner. Also, Brussel sprouts. Get them. Trust me

Came here for the restaurant week dinner. Loved the space and decor. I ordered the sweet corn bisque, spatzle, and apple strudel. The corn bisque is NOT vegetarian fyi. I asked the waitress what was the “speck succotash” which she didn’t appear to understand so I asked if it was a vegetable or meat and she replied that it’s vegetarian, so I was like ok cool. Turns out it’s bacon and the soup had SO MUCH of it. I didn’t say anything and just picked it out but that was a bummer especially because I asked specifically what it was. The spatzle was good but had way too many crispy onions on top. Not sure if that’s normal but I couldn’t eat most of it. Overall the food was still good but wish my waitress spoke/understood English better!!

We had the most wonderful pick-up order from Schilling last night! We had a reservation to dine in but I’m 9 months pregnant and was too tired to go out last minute so my husband called them and ordered pick-up. The staff at Schilling were so kind and left us a note and free dessert in the bag for me! The food was delicious and we’re definitely planning to go back as soon as we can.

Food was such a disappointment. Service even more. We went running when we saw the decor while passing by and when we read later that the chef is a michellin starred chef. Oh boy... ridiculous serving. Everything was tasteless. No flavor. The schnitzel is just so flatz tasteless.... Honeslty, I hate writing bad reviews and I will stop here. But it would be too bad to not share. We had 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 desserts. Maybe 2 or 3/10. Nothing more.

I love this place! They prepare great dishes, they have a rich menu, The chief cook in that restaurant is very trained, I like a lot trying all their food. The food is always fresh and tasty, the attitude towards the guests is agreeable. I often eat in this place and I was never disappointed. Highly recommended.

This is a fun little place in FiDi, a place not know for good restaurants. But this definitely is! I loved the tables with the lights coming from metal handles attached to the walls and the overall decor of the place. The food was delicious, especially the pork schnitzel, so thin and juicy and fried to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

This place serves Austria/German dishes and drinks. It gives you the vibe of European culture. The venue itself has retro industrial decor with exposed red brick wall and metal pipes. Friendly staff and service was fast. Food was delicious, little pricey though Word to management, PLEASE fix the front door, it's so loud when it closes with a loud bang which interruptes the customer conversation.

For schnitzel Thank you @schillingnyc for having me and @new_york_noms! The food was absolutely amazing, and this reel is just part one of what we tried. They were so generous in bringing out so much more food than we asked for me. I expected the Michelin stared chef @chefeduardfrauneder ‘s food to be great but it blew our minds, especially the tomato starters. We had •Fried Green Tomatoes - fried like schnitzel with Comeback sauce •Cherry and Sungold Tomatoes - in Espelette Pepper jus with onion relish and a lovage and celery salad •Heirloom Tomatoes - with tomato seed oil, farmers cheese, croutons, cucumbers, and Thai basil cucumber vinaigrette •Organic Chicken Weiner Schnitzel - with cucumber salad, potato salad, and Lingonberry •Viennese Chicken Sandwich - organic chicken schnitzel with house made cucumber salad and pickles, on a brioche bun with fries •Tuna Schnitzel - with grilled peaches, mango chutney, and capers •Jimador's Breakfast - cucumber, tequila, black pepper, oleum saccharum, tomolives •Garden Of Eden - vodka, lemon, elderflower, apple juice, cucumber •Smoke and Fire - mezcal, pineapple rum, lemon, agave, kummel liquor, habanero •Pirate Smash - white rum, dark rum, basil, pineapple cordial, cybar Sugar, how’d you get so fly? We lifted and shifted these desserts after the amazing dinner we had at @schillingnyc ! @new_york_noms and I spent about 3 hours at Schilling eating all of the deliciousness they put in front of us and this was how we finished the meal! See my previous reel for the amazing tomato appetizers, drinks, and schnitzel dinners we had. For dessert, we had chocolate molten cake, cheesecake blintze, and traditional Austrian apple strudel. Unsurprisingly, the chocolate cake was my favorite but I have to give credit to the apple strudel too - I don’t love fruit in my dessert but we still devoured this one too! Thanks again for the amazing hospitality and generous amount of delicious food!

Nothing short of AMAZING! So comfy and cozy! Loved the communal dining atmosphere. Couple that with food that hugs your soul for the perfect dining experience. I would go back any day of the week for any item on the menu. I left speechless, happy with a full belly and a happy soul.

We tried this place during restaurant week. The pre-fixe menu has nice selections. We both tried the schnitzel and it was delicious. The sides were also very good!

Walking in you would never expect the food here to be executed on such a high level, but the kitchen is absolutely killing it. Iove how focused the menu is, it allows for the attention to detail that really makes Schilling a gem. Excellent selection of cocktails, beer, and wines. Also similarly focused. Staff was lovely. Ambiance is hip but relaxed and informal. Killed funk soundtrack was the cherry on top. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite places from before the pandemic, I am so so happy to see it doing well. My first visit since March 2020 and it was as wonderful as I remembered. Food, mood, service- all perfect.

Great find in this area. A welcoming and authentic enclave with good vibes and surrounded by friendly staff. Food was served pretty quickly and it was fresh, flavourful and a good texture of taste. The portions are very generous too.

Austrian inspired food, came for the restaurant week but decided to just eat of the normal menu (skipped the desert). The spaetzle was great - a pretty big portion size too. Coffee was also excellent if you need it. My only complaint was we sat outside and the table legit felt it was going to tip over if we put our weight on it. Lead to some delicate eating haha

The food here is so good an Austrian friend brought me here, that must say something!! The beer selection was awesome and the food was even better, need to get the wurst if you havent!

The food was good but portions were on the small side. The ambiance is nice but the tight quarters make it hard for the servers to provide fast service. We went for a work lunch and it took over an hour for us to order, eat, and pay. A few vegan items were not available from the regular menu which was disappointing on a Friday. The overhead front door should make for a great opportunity in the warm weather.

A Memorable Dining Experience at Schilling Restaurant & Bar Last week, my family and I decided to visit Schilling Restaurant & Bar during restaurant week, and let me tell you, it was an experience we won't soon forget! From the moment we walked in, the warm, family-friendly atmosphere made us feel right at home. The highlight of our visit had to be the amazing value and quality of the food. For just $45, we indulged in a dinner that was nothing short of splendid. The portions were generous, making it not just a feast for our taste buds but also a treat for our wallets. What really set Schilling apart, though, was the staff. Their knowledge about the menu and recommendations were spot on, ensuring that each dish we selected was a delight. But the cherry on top of our delightful evening was getting to meet the chef! It's not every day you get a personal touch like that. Overall, our visit to Schilling Restaurant & Bar was a five-star experience through and through. Whether you're a foodie or just looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a meal with your loved ones, this place is a must-visit. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
