It was a good experience to share in this restaurant with delicious food good service and friendly employees. But at the same time I felt uncomfortable with the pressure of waiters cleaning the tables in the middle of the conversation to pay the bill and leave the place as soon as possible. That's it.

Great place for Schnitzel! I've been on extended business a few times and came across another German cuisine location and stumbled across this restaurant later. Both serve traditional German dishes. I visited both twice during my trips to Alexandria, VA. For Schnitzel, Old House Cosmopolitan is my preference. Dinner was served hot, great portion size and tasty fried potatoes. Schnitzel breading was perfect and thickness of Schnitzel was my preference. I still would prefer a vegetable on the plate as well. I also ordered the house salad with vinaigrette and it does remind me of home. Dinner is served quickly so I was not able to finish it before main dish (both visits). Service was exceptional. Very customer oriented and very friendly. The dining room is small with about 9 tables for four and a small bar off to the side. Service and decor is upscale. I was very comfortable here and enjoyed my meal. I wish I had room and time to try the deserts.

It's one of my favorites in Old Town Alexandria!! The food was absolutely delicious. We eat here every time we visit Alexandria. Their schnitzel is the stuff of German dreams! The schnitzel comes with either fries or salad. I always get Holstiner schnitzel that is veal with an over-medium egg and the salad. It comes lightly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette and is a perfect complement to the richness of the Veal. We also had the special, which was a pork schnitzel stuffed with feta cheese and spicy peppers. My husband loved it. We also got the wurst platter, which has spicy mustard and comes with a soft pretzel and a feta cheese spread. We also had the Balkan style beef sausages with ajvar, which is a vegetable condiment. The black forest cake was great and not overly sweet. Everything was delicious!! The service is always excellent as well. We waited in the bar area for a table and they made sure our drinks stayed full while we waited on a busy Sunday night!

We have been before, and the food was better the last time. The veal was over cooked this time, but overall still a great experience and we'll be back. The staff are always very attentive, truly great service!

Everything was perfect!! I'm Romanian and the restaurant had some of my favorites! I was blown away to see that they served sour creme with the table bread since I love it like that and never saw it at a restaurant before! The goulash soup was so comforting! The sausages (mititei in Romanian) were seasoned perfectly and served with ajvar (zacusca in Romanian). Some Ajvar can be very metallic tasting but this tasted fresh and home made. We wrapped up with the crepes with rose hip jam (clatite cu gem de macese) and they were PERFECT!! Our server was very kind and friendly! And the atmosphere was perfect for a cold winter day! I included the Romanian words so this restaurant pops up if any Romanians search in Google, but I think the recipes they use are from other European countries. I can't wait to visit Alexandria again and stop by here for a taste of home.

Very pleasantly surprised by how good the food is here. The schnitzel and sausages were quite amazing. The pretzels were delicious as well. All the dishes were well executed and flavorful. The atmosphere was casual and full of character. We had a great meal and experience at the restaurant.

Great, friendly, attentive service. Our food came out fast, fresh, and delicious. Best gazpacho we've ever had (was a special on the days menu). Nutella filled crepes were fantastic, as well as the creme brulee. Serves bottled coca cola products. Highly recommend this restaurant if you are trying to decide where to eat in this area. By far the best food we had in town!! Calling to reserve a table might be a good idea if you have a larger party.

Best hidden gem in old town. Massively delicious Bosnian and German food. Couldn’t recommend more.

I believe they offer Swiss or Austrian cuisine. They have bratwurst on the menu which you shouldn't miss. Their salads are delicious. And we really liked the service

Really great food. I ordered the beef veggie soup which was a special and it was amazing. The soup itself was very flavorful and the beef was super soft and tender. I also got the black forest cake and it was delicious , very moist and bursting with flavor. Our server was really nice and informative and the owner was super sweet and accommodating. Overall a great restaurant, I would highly recommend it.

It's been awhile since I've had true authentic German food, and this was a great experience. It tasted like my Oma's especially the cheesecake. My best friend and I shared the goulash, and her husband and us all tried the pretzel bratwurst tray. My friend and I each had a spätzle dish. Hers had veal mine had cream cheese. There was a caramel hazelnut cake and pistachio pistachio cheesecake. I know it's snooty of me but I prefer German cheesecake over American.

Cosy & fabulous. Perfect schnitzel, delicious bratwurst, and tasty bread. They have a wonderful lunch special with reasonable prices and hearty portions.

The food is delicious, authentic, and made fresh when you order it. I loved the food (meat for him and vegetarian for me) and we loved the atmosphere as well. The place was very clean and had a warm, cozy, and friendly atmosphere. We both loved what we ordered. I ordered the Kase Spatzle that came with Salad and he ordered the Pork Snitzle and Seafood and we shared a delicious fresh Nutella Crepe as well. The service was excellent and high end by the super friendly and attentive Almir. I can't wait until we go back and I highly recommend this classy and comfortable restaurant.

Great place to have a great meal. We had the pork schnitzel and a steak sandwich. Big portions! We had no room for dessert. Great staff and atmosphere. Would recommend to family and friends.

As good as it gets!!! 🍗 A wonderful place where each team member clearly values their work and service AND the food is cooked to perfection. That Jager schnitzel was easy to chew and cut and seasoned so originally. The vegetables have a strong peppery and fire roasted flavor. Bread appetizer is just as delicious. Clean chicken cuts. Open late. Wish I could eat here every day.

Great atmosphere, excellent food. Recommend a reservation on the weekend. We had the crab cakes, stuffed veal schnitzel and cordon blue... All were fantastic!!! Finished with the apple strudel, great spin on an old traditional favorite!!

My boyfriend and I visited the Old House Cosmopolitan because we both love German food. Let me tell you— the food was delicious and the service was very pleasant. I ordered the Chicken Jager. The portion was very generous and the chicken + mushroom sauce + toasted potatoes were beyond delicious. My boyfriend ordered a German beer and I ordered wine. We both were pleased with our drink choices. Overall, I give Old House Cosmopolitan a 10/10 for sure. We will be back. :)

Definitely consider a visit for a great unique experience. Had some amazing German food today, a great Croatian Red wine and some great desserts, with a Bosnian touch to the experience. With all that said one would think there's an identity crisis, but that's the amazing part of our experience. One of the owners served us, which is amazing considering how long this place has been around. With that rare kind of great service, he shared the history of the food as a man from Bosnia who lived in Germany. Truly a unique food and cultural experience worth trying.

This place feels like a hidden gem. Chef has a running list of rotating specials that are always changing and always different amazing. Food is reasonably priced with unique wine options that I haven't seen anywhere else in the area (full of pleasant surprises). Real neighborhood vibe with upbeat, friendly staff. One of my favorite places in the area!!

I have always had a delicious meal at Old House Cosmopolitan. The service here is excellent. Try to save room for homemade desserts, or you can take them home. I had the pork knuckle the last time I was here, and it was exceptional. I had the crepes with rose hip jam for dessert. What a treat! Enjoy!
