Great little find for us. We were walking along the shore, heading to Robin Hood Bay. Spotted this cafe naked in the gap. Spotted for a bite to eat and a drink. Lovely food, lovely helpful and polite staff. Dogs welcome, in the outdoor seating area. They even had dog ice-cream. Toilets are nice and clean. If you intend on continuing to walk along the beach, keep an eye on the tide as the entrance to the beach gets cut off at high tide. Don't stress though if you get caught out, there is a coastal path along the top of the cliffs. Would definitely go here again.

Just had a few days at Boggle Hole YHA, what can I say, amazing, lovely tucked away location, scenic walks, beautiful beaches, walked to Ravenscar which is a beautiful picturesque walk. Such a great central location, we parked up the car and didn't need it at all on our whole stay....hostel was clean and staff were amazing, special shout out to Andrea she was efficency itself. Highly recommended!!!

A little paradise in Yorkshire. Quirky and isolated . Yet when the tide is out ...it is full of visitors. Walk there from the coastal path ( scary if you don't like heights ) Or around the beach from robin hood's bay when the tide is out. Great food for day visitors. Fabulous accommodation for those staying over.

Amazing YHA, one of the best I’ve stayed in. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. The building is big and very well maintained, clean and tidy. Large modern kitchen and a large comfortable dining/bar area. The back garden is the beach 👌 super kid friendly with so many things for them to do around the hostel. the wall from the car park is quite long and steep so be prepared if you stay. But I’d highly recommend this place and will be staying again 🙏🏻

We came for some refreshments during our walk on the Cleveland Way! The paths were up and down and so when we came to the hostel, we were glad for a drink! The cafe bar had a log fire which created a lovely ambiance! The bar had a selection of cakes and vegan options and an absolute steal for £3.95 for coffee and cake. We plumped for the orange & poppyseed cake and the courgette & avocado cake. They were both amazing!! The coffee was really good too! Such a lovely place to stop by!!

Have been here many times, and loved it, but disappointed as it's not the same as it used to be. Always had some kind of hot food, a toastie, bacon roll, but not any more. Only for residents now apparently. Choice of a toasted tea cake, vegan sausage roll or cake....not what I like for a breakfast option!! Will only go for coffee in future!! Shame😟

Came upon the hostel and bar area simply by chance after seeing a sign for 'Boggle Hole'. Friendly, welcoming staff in the cafe area and very reasonably priced food with generous portions. The location is a little hidden paradise and we will definitely be back to stay in the summer.

We love the relatively short .7m walk from Robin Hoods bay to Boggle Hole, either along the beach or over the top along the Cleveland way (which includes a steep step climb out of both locations!) A lovely cafe at the hostel serving nice coffee and cakes. Staff very friendly Worth a stop!

What a gorgeous cove!!!!! Boggle Hole is beautiful and well worth the single track lanes to get to. We parked on the side (in parking bays) next to the actual car park. The walk down to YHA and the cove is steep but very rewarding. Great access to the Cleveland Way LDT. Free toilets, free water fill up point and the cafe is great. Themed on the ocean and everything that goes with it. Great selection of Vegan cakes! Coffee was divine and very friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit.

Very welcoming warm place for a break from walking. Dogs welcome. Lovely cakes. Great coffee and lots if recycled materials used in the interior. Also a roaring fire.

What a lovely surprise the hostel was. We walked with the dogs from Robin Hood's Bay to Boggle Hole, not expecting any facilities at the end. However, there is a really nice YHA, with a warm and welcoming cafe. Lovely coffee and cake in front of the log burner. Great value too! This YHA would put many hotels to shame.

Brilliant youth hostel, a former mill, in a most amazing location- next to the sea at the bottom of the cove known as Boggle Hole. We took our young children and they loved it and the area. A short walk along the beach brings you to the beautifully picturesque Robin Hoods Bay. Highly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic winter stay at Boggle Hole. Never stayed in YHA before and wrongly assumed it would be very basic but that's not the case at all. Everything is very comfortable, food fantastic, very homely environment and every member of staff we met were very friendly and super helpful. Lovely walk to Robins Hoods Bay, watched sunset on evening and sun rise the next day. 100% recommend.

So I can mostly own rate the coffee… which is excellent. And I believe they do some snacks, I would LOVE to stay here one time with the family - very atmospheric… and they do have vehicles which they bring up and down from the car parks. I wish I could speak more about the YHA, but regarding Boggle Hole itself… Challenging for those who are less stable, and definitely not for wheelchair bound, Boggle hole is a geological dream. For anyone interested in the UK coastline, the earth, cliff formations, coastal erosion, etc… this is absolutely stunning. The steep walk down from the small, free car park at the top takes you down a water cut narrow valley, which feels almost tropical in the summer months. And once at the base of the slip, the bay funnels out (bridge takes you across the seacut to the YHA which again, will serve great coffee! Fun for kids to play in the river mouth and paddling out in the sea, but be cautious - the tides can take quite fast. To the right, and hence the name… Boggle Hole… walk round the cliffs at the base to the right and look at the cliffs. There it is, Boggle Hole. Be careful of the cliffs in the area though, definitely dont climb, and if you take any of the beach walks, either direction (towards Robin Hoods Bay especially) the cliffs are very unstable. Heavy masses of boulder clay frequently plummet to the rocks and sand below. Keep children back from them, and do watch the tide information. Stunning scenery. As the tide goes out it is possible to walk to Robin Hoods Bay and back. Or Ravenscar in the other direction heading South. The Cleveland way goes along the cliff tops if you end up unable to get back via the beach. Again, sure footed folks only, and stay back from the edge of the cliffs. Beautiful landscape. Stunning part of North Yorkshire. Take a snack just in case the YHA is closed.

£100 for 1 night on bunk beds with a shared bathroom. Receptionist asked personal questions. No, not good at all. Food was ok. Pretty beach. Don't stay over. Much nicer to stay in Robin Hoods Bay. 2/5

What a wonderful place, we stayed as part of a large group and could not have felt more welcome. Claire and the fantastic team were so friendly. The location is absolutely stunning, we walked down to the hostel in the dark and it felt like an adventure! Don't forget torches though. The bay itself is stunning and lovely to explore. The bar area is great, with loads of games to keep the kids happy while the adults have a drink. The breakfast and dinner was just perfect for a big group with lots of kids and we felt it was really good value. We stayed up in the modern block above the older building and everything was clean, comfy and very modern. Claire and the team went above and beyond for us, with a firepit, boggle hunting and more. We absolutely loved our stay.

Lovely, hidden hostel at the bottom of a steep bank. You leave your car at the top so you need a reasonable level of fitness to go up and down and also if you're staying in crows nest. Nice lounge with a cosy fire though quite small. Staff excellent. We have been three times now, our granddaughter loves it

What a wonderful experience all round! Notes for newbies (as we were): 1. They’re not lying about the walk to the YHA from the parking. Not wheelchair or pushchair friendly. Lovely potter though. Pack light or on wheels! 2. Plenty of stairs and slopes when you get there. Be prepared with sturdy footwear and an umbrella for going between buildings 3. The walk onto the beach is great for kids but 200m at the start involves rock pools and some wading/slippy rocks. Wellies for the kids are useful! The rooms were lovely and clean. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Breakfast was a great bit of scran but beware the tables are tight and when it’s busy you may not get a table! In the evening there is plenty to do. The bar has games, a dress up box and some hobby horses. A lovely place to relax. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. They looked after us and my young lad, very well.

Visited the cafe. Beautiful location. Perfect coffee and vegan cake. Sat next to the fire before our steep! walk to Robins Hood Bay. Highly recommend. Lovely staff.

Remember this is a youth hostel! it is right on the beach, when the tide is in the hostel is 30 metres to the sea. The hostel is lovely and quirky with lots of little touches, encouraging you to look after the environment. You have to park at the top of the hill and walk 5-10 minutes down the road - bring your kit in a backpack. The Crows Nest accommodation is modern, but up a steep hill. The food availability is stand YHA menu.

What a place! Superb greeting from Claire on our arrival, fantastic location and had everything we needed. The only thing was we found the bed pretty uncomfortable but for a one night stay it was fine. What a great place. We will return but will bring a mattress topper with us,

A beautiful little cove with lots to see and lovely walks to either side. The YHA is a perfect place to stop, relax or unwind after a walk. Plenty of choice of food and drink and very friendly staff. Dogs friendly too. 😊

Lovely overnight stay enabling a sub zero, moonlit walk on the beach. Staff were nice and friendly and provided a very good breakfast. Everything very clean. Only problem was the room was absolutely freezing. Heating didn't seem to be on at all and no obvious way to adjust. Toilets, kitchen area and corridors all nice and warm but the room itself was hardly any warmer than being outside. Mentioned it to a member of staff the next morning who said they had got a new system and had had a lot of complaints both about it being too cold and too hot. Definitely needs looking into as it would put me off staying again. Difficult to leave the next morning as the road out is steep and was very icy and the car kept slipping back.

A lovely place to stay but also a great place to begin or end your walk to Robin Hoods Bay. Always friendly. If you want to walk to Robin Hoods Bay on the beach then check the tides . Be aware there is no parking at Boggle Hole. The car park is about a quarter of a mile away. A steep downhill to Boggle Hole so its steep back up too!

Is a stop off for tea and cake in their garden, love the location. Perfect when you're into challenging walks in beautiful woodland. The beach area also offers up interesting sights, whatever the weather.

What a gem of a place. Literally on the beach. It's a bit of a walk but if you are relatively fit it's not a problem. There is a small car park at the top of the hole but it's still quite a trek but definitely worth it. Friendly staff good home made food and a pleasant place to unwind and watch the day go by.

I don't want you to know about this place as it is phenomenal. Sure you have to leave your car in a car park and walk a couple of hundred meters to the hostel but oh my goodness it is so worth the effort. Nestled in a ravine on a meandering river and with the sea lapping on a glorious sandy beach just meters ahead of the entrance sits the hostel. Like a lot of YHA's it's impressive, quirky and supported by amazing staff. Sadly I could only get in here for one night but I will return again for a longer stay.

We walked the Cleveland path from Robin Hood's Bay to Boggle Hole and visited the YHA cafe for much deserved refreshment; coffee, tea and cake. The cakes are amazing with very interesting combinations. The lime and courgette cake was delicious and refreshing and the orange and poppy seed was also very satisfying. They do a drink and cake 'deal' which is currently £3.95 and seemed very good value. The server was very pleasant and helpful, giving info on 2here the cakes came from and also worked out, at my request, when the tide would be sufficiently low for us to walk back along the beach to the Bay.

School trip over the weekend. What an eclectic place! Set in an old mill, Katie was our evening manager with George our daytime entertainer/host. Clean, cosy fire, quality food, decent coffee, hot power showers and an unbeatable setting! Well done YHA Boggle Hole. Hope the zip line from the car park is up and running for next time ;-)

Visited the cafe on site. Cosy log burner and dog friendly. Lack of staff is preventing a food menu being served , hence the drop of a star, the cakes were tasty though. Just disappointing after walking miles and expecting something substantial to eat

Great location for a cafe with outside tables in the distinctive Boggle beach area. Free water taps which should be a feature everywhere. Disappointing to see only boxed sandwiches, with the existing reviews we were expecting to see more than that in terms of food. Good sausage rollls

Great place! After a wet and windy walk from RHB, this was a sight for sore eyes! Super warm welcome and a seat on the sofa by the toasty wood burner to dry off. We had a coffee and a cup of tea and some yummy carrot cake, really nice feel to this place and the location is beautiful!

Very much off the beaten track, pack lightly was the best advice we were given. Perfect for walks around the area or day trips to Scarborough or Whitby. Only issue is self catering kitchen is tiny and the new crows nest rooms are very hot but the location beats everything.
