This place was recommended by a friend and it is definitely the best in the area! Just needs to sell saveloys and it would be perfect!

Came on a recommendation that this was the “best chip shop in Castleford” - which is a bold boast. I wouldn’t entirely disagree, except it is extremely difficult to find a bad chippy in Cas… Definitely a contender and we’ll worth a visit - food was hot and fresh and service was friendly and welcoming

If anything, too generous with the chips. I'm caring for two elderly folks and as soon as they saw the sheer volume of fried spuds I hadn't ordered, they lost their appetites and most of it was wasted. Next time, I'll have to be strict with my server and I'll end up sounding like a horrible, ungrateful monster in front of them and their always massive queue. The food is fantastic, though!

Got to be some of the best fish and chips in Yorkshire. Thick, chunky fish that has flavour, something that appears to be missing in a lot of fish shops these days. I pass 5 fish shops local to me to get my fish and chips from here but it's well worth the journey.

This chippy was so reminiscent of my childhood memories, when I used to call on a Wednesday evening with my friends for a bag of chips, with 'scraps' after Girl Guides. The food was delicious, such good quality for money and the lady who served me was so very friendly. I asked for a smaller portion of chips and the price was adapted accordingly. The shop was very clean and was well looked after and judging by the queue when I arrived and after I left, very popular in the area. The only difference was the price and only to be expected really. I remember paying 6d for a bag of chips and 1s for a fish, prior to decimalisation. The fish was suddenly 10p and chips 5p. In old money that equated to 3s, as opposed to 1s 6d. Sorry to take up so much space, rambling, but I really did enjoy my fish and chips. Thank you. My compliments to the chef and the staff for a wonderful walk down memory lane.

Me and my partner have been coming here for years now we've moved about 5 miles away from the fish shop but it's well worth the drive there

After being convinced by someone that John's chippy was the best around according to Google, I thought I'd give them a try. There was 1 lonely fish on display and a few soggy sausages. The battered one had even shed its batter. The scraps looked like the most appetising thing on display, oh and a can of dandelion and burdock. No John or any of his affamed character just a couple of ladies. What to have?? Chips, 2 potatoe scallops and a pot of curry. She gave me plenty of chips but then rushed me as I was trying to put salt and vinegar on them. Chips were OK. Scallops were scabby and greasy and curry was watery and very disappointing. We only wanted some decent chippy curry. Best thing was ice cold pop and it only cost £4.60. Not good enough doubt I'll go back.

What a great chippy: the best in Cas for my money. Ask for a fish butty and you get a few chips thrown for free: a lovely gesture in my mind. Although I haven't live in the area for nearly twenty years, I still call in if I'm in the area and they're open.
