The castle was beautiful but was under some construction work so we were unable to cover the whole castle. We went to the top which was exciting and beautiful scenery was eye catching. Definitely recommended. The best part is the souvenir shops had some of the best souvenirs you would love to take home with you😊

Amazing and beautiful castle! Admission fees vary between 3€ for Children and 6€ for Adults. Everything is really good kept, but still maintaining its original medieval flavour. If you check on the page, you may get some information about special events and enjoy a travel to the past. The tour and the climb to the top of the Tower is really worth it, specially for the magnificent views you get from the surrounding forest and little towns.

Nice mediaval castle, not a ruin, and nice surrounding town around the castle. All houses are in traditional Fachwerk style. There are few restaurants and condotoree close to castle. Also nice view on the mountains and trolley way to the topnof the mountain where castle is situated.

This one's an odd one. It's a gorgeous little place and really well maintained, but once you specifically ask the tour guide you find out that it is a complete rebuild and not the original castle at all. So while it's pretty to look at and the tower offers beautiful views, it's not really a historical location but just playing pretend. Still a bit torn because it was nice, but they're just not upfront about it not being original.

The castle is interesting, but now half of the castle is under renovation

(July/23) Sadly we could only see half of the castle due of its remodeling and the cable car was close. The castle is great with an amazing view of the surrounding landscape. Moreover, there are informative texts in English around the castle for you to read about its history.

The Sesselbahn over Wupper river is worth the money. The castle is undergoing renovation until 2023. Therefore, I would advise you to travel there post renovations. The view from the top is really memorable.

A very small museum on the hill. The ticket costs 6 euro for adults. The only problem is, the guide will randomly occupy some exhibition room and ask others out. I tried to get in the exhibition room. The guide, rudely and impatiently asked me out. I asked how long will it take and he said 5 minutes. So I took a rest for 5 minutes and they are not going to finish their guide. I said I would like to visit and this guide seems to get mad. He shouted to me that I am disturbing their guide and should visit some other exhibitions first. Thank you for your advice sir. I will definitely do so if it was a bigger museum so I have anything else to see. Maybe the museum should give some hint before selling their tickets. "Our guide has first priority and will occupy random rooms for random time. Complaint about it? Shut up and get out."

Honestly… nothing to see besides a big construction zone. The museum and the cable car was closed. The castle looked normal with no special features.

This is a great place to visit out of the regular tourist hotpots in NRW and be ready to spend at least half a day, since just the walk inside the castle will take around 3 hours. Visiting the place is a great opportunity to have an impression of what a real middle-ages castle was, and albeit this is surely not the most famous castle in Germany, you will still be amazed particularly if you are not from Europe as in my case (keep in mind that a fraction of the building is covered due to restauration works). The background of the castle story, shown in the top of the main tower is told in german with english subtitles. However the museum is in german only. Also in every level down from the top of the tower you have the chance to watch a video explaining more details of the timeline. All of those videos are in german only. Because of this I suggest you visit with a German that can help with translation. After leaving the castle you will have the chance to visit the souvenir shop (where the entry tickets are sold) and have a meal in the restaurants nearby, or a waffle with ice cream. Additionally you can enjoy some leisure walks in the surrounding areas, which include the town itself, forest and rivers. So visiting the Burg Castle and surroundings can turn into a wonderful full-day visit. I totally recommend it if you want to explore a more rural and typical german place out of the typical hotspot for tourists!

Greta place to visit and enjoy a day out even with children. The Castle it is well preserved and plenty or history. It offers great panoramic views, great walk around the walls and close by there are plenty of places to dine or have a cold drink.

(Translated by Google) Really a beautiful castle complex. There are paid parking spaces directly at the castle. The view is really nice (even nicer with the cable car up to the castle) in the immediate vicinity you can also have a good coffee. If the situation allows it again. Visiting the outer castle complex is free of charge. If you want to look behind the facade it costs something ..

Closed on Monday's, came back the following Sunday only find out at the inside entrance they are closing at 2 for a private party. No notice on the web site or at the gate. Beautiful scenery outside, mostly all restaurants, the main castle is still under remodeling. It would have been lovely to see especially traveling over 8000 miles to get here.

Very nice castle! You can walk outside - it's an area with small streets. Restaurants and cafes are on the castle's territory. Also you can find funicular (it's not for free). You can buy tickets to visit inside of the castle. With baby carriage you can not do it. But you can leave it outside - no problem. On the territory you can find a playground for kids.

Interested place but was disappointed that it was such a building site. Once the works are finished I'm sure it will be a great visit. The price to get into the museum was good and reflected the building site chaos.

The only flop: the parking lot is a SHAME. 1) absurd price, we went for a visit + lunch and pais 9 euros, what’s almost the double of the ticket price to the castle itself! 2) only ONE machine to everybody pay, there was a line just to pay! 2) the machine accepts ONLY CASH (are we in 1985?). And than the cherry in top: besides accepting only cash, the machine doesn’t accepts 20 euros bills. Cmon, guys, you can do better for such a nice castle!

Beautiful place with plenty of interesting things to see in the museum and lots of other antique shops or cafés inside the castle walls. It's under renovation so some places in the courtyard don't look so good and are muddy, but when it's done it will be very beautiful I expect.

  • 5/5 Łukasz N. 3 years ago on Google
Great place for a couple hours. You can take a walk and feel like be in a mountain. Visit a historical castle for only 6€ per (adult) + many cosy restaurants surroundings that lovely place. Highly recommended 😊

The castle closes at 17 on Sundays...so I haven't been inside...but it is very nice around it...the shop is very nice with lot of postcards, magnets, wooden swords and shields toys for kids, and other toys...and real kitchen knives and other stuff produced in Solingen area which is famous cause of it...I noticed two restaurants near by as well...I am coming back that's for sure

  • 4/5 edward b. 2 years ago on Google
The place is beautiful, is definitely worth visiting and not expensive, the reason for the 4 stars is some of it was under construction and we were no able to see it all

  • 2/5 Martin W. 8 months ago on Google
Come back when the renovations are finished. At the moment the site is one big construction zone and not worth a viewing. We wish we'd been told this before we paid for the chairlift to the top.

Nice and cheap place to visit. It's in a good shape. But I would recommend the people to choose a day with a good weather to ride in the cable car. Besides of that, they are nowadays repairing a great part of the wall from outside and there are many scarffoldings around. Would be great if you can wait until they end up all the repairings so you can enjoy the whole experience. But if you live close and want to have a busy morning I recommend you to do the visit. I Hope this feedback helps you all.

Lovely Fortress which was changed to function as a Castle in later years. Most parts are rebuild since the Swedish army destroyed the fortress almost entirely. Many parts are under renovation now, but the building is still worth seeing, it's very impressive. Prices are a bit reduced until construction is finished.

  • 4/5 Alex F. 1 year ago on Google
Good option for a rainy day. Even though most of the castle is closed for renovation, we took our time with the open parts and it lasted us 1.5 hours. Barely anyone else was there with us, which was great! €16 reduced price for 2 adults and 2 kids. Paid parking was reasonable too, about €3. Most surrounding shops were closed, guess due to rain, but the buildings looked good.

Very nice, kids friendly castle. Be aware that it is all about taking many steps up and down to make the round visit inside. Huge part of the castle is still under renovation (until 2025). Last but not least - a very nice and helpful lady that is taking care of toilets and not only - whatever your question or worry is, she will do her best to help or find the best solution for you.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful destination on a rock spur or starting point for hikes through the surrounding extensive forests. There is a small chair lift to Unterburg in the valley for less mountain-friendly walkers. From there you can easily walk up and down to the nearby Müngstener Bridge. Friends of a well-tended Bergisch coffee table will find plenty of choice in the cafés that are in the vicinity of the castle or in the valley. The castle itself was rebuilt in the 19th century and today contains a local museum of the Bergisches Land and the history of the castle.

Worth visiting, However I am not fond of historical places, but I found it fascinating as well as nice hiking place... People visits there as cultural place and to discover about the emperor's lifestyle and how they were acting ages ago Although, the weather was not so friendly when I visited but the clean and fresh air impressed lot and I did enjoyed climbing on the top of the castle and really the view from that was breathtaking and wondered me.... I never thought that I'll be there to visit in Germany. To travel there I faced few difficulty as the connections are not so effective and not frequently, So, if you're ready to walk and enjoy the nature then do visit and have fun..... Cheers🍻

(Translated by Google) Burg Castle has of course been a cult since the 1950s. Everyone knows it or knows someone who has been there before. If you want and include the surrounding area, you can really stay there for a whole day. To park, I always drive to the (signposted) Hasencleverstraße and think about whether to take the 1950s cable car or go up on foot. The train has open gondolas and is dizzying, so nothing for the faint of heart. Once at the top, you have a breathtaking view and can consider whether to visit the castle with its museum or simply look at the small souvenir booths. Oberburg also offers half-timbered houses and you can walk to a dam 6-8 km away - provided you are in good physical condition. A hike to the Müngstener Brück - from Unterburg - is also a great excursion. Here, too, good fitness and sturdy shoes are strongly recommended! Not far away is the Altenberg Cathedral, a nice destination for church fans. Schloss Burg is always worthwhile, but you shouldn't arrive too late, as it can be very crowded from late midday, especially in summer.
