You have to come and see this remarkable building in person. It is stunning on so many levels. The architecture, details, history, and scale are just mind blowing. Don't forget that you can go into the spire! It is worth the steps, and honestly not that bad. You will need to pay for the spire portion, but consider taking the stairs and experience the spire if you are physically comfortable doing so. Use your own discretion.

Majestic, grand and all those similar adjectives. This is the main attraction in cologne and is worth it. The space around the cathedral is also relaxing. The insides of the cathedral is breathtaking. Also you can climb the tower which is also, literally, breathtaking, since there are 500 odd steps to climb. Visit as early as possible to avoid crowd. It is specially beautiful at night with all the lights, it looks surreal.

One of the most mesmerizing pieces of architecture I’v seen in my life. The details, the size, the view, the history and the beauty are all immaculate. I came to cologne on a business trip and on my last day I decided to explore the city and it was the best decision ever and later I read about the cathedral and its history. You can go to the other side of the river to take some nice photos as well. Also note that if you want to get inside the cathedral you’ll have to go between 10:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. The love bridge is also near by which will give you a nice view of the cathedral and the river.

We came to Cologne to visit the world famous christmas markets. One of the markets is right next to this cathedral so we went inside. Amazing architecture on the outside as well as the inside. Just a vast monument and crazy to know hold old this building is. Nice to see one of the historical places in Europe and one of the most visited landmarks in Germany.

Amazing Cathedral to see, right in the heart of Cologne. The view is tremendous from all sides on the outside - you'll have no issue spotting the tall spires, and as you close in you'll notice all the magnificent detail in the architecture. You can enter inside (check hours), however, you can't bring in any large bags; and be vigilant of any masses taking place.

The place outside the Cathedral is too crowded and noisy that it is less possible for us to breath. The place is so beautiful and inside of the cathedral is calm and quiet. The art works are extremely brilliant. It would be better to go during the day time especially when it is sunny, so that you can enjoy the colorful glass paintings inside the cathedral.

A remarkable work of architecture that is difficult to fully absorb without being in front of it. There are many details worth appreciating when standing close; but it’s when you step back that you can feel the immense scale of the work. Incredible - and a lot of fun to look at while visiting the Christmas market, if you are here in the winter.

This place is very crowded. The cathedral is majestic. The interiors are worth visiting, houses a crypt as well. The tower climb is not too arduous, but you do have to climb 533 steps. There is a combo-ticket available for treasury and tower climb, would recommend it. Disliked that there were no visual cues inside on what you are looking at and no pamphlet guide in English.

It is one of the most visited destinations by tourists, as it is definitely impressive. I was totally fascinated by the architecture of this place. I loved the feeling of tranquility and security inside the cathedral. However, it is also quite imposing. What surprised me the most was the catacombs part. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit this place.

This massive cathedral is one the tourists place in Germany. Basically Cologne is very much popular for this cathedral. This cathedral is also an UNESCO Heritage Site. The view from the other side of the river is excellent. There's many things to enjoy here. You can walk over the bridge, visit museum after visiting the cathedral. You need to have Covid-19 vaccination certificate or recovery certificate to enter into the cathedral. Entry fee: Free

Outstanding! Don't miss the opportunity to go to the top of the belfry (no elevator, might be very cold and windy depending on the season and weather). Free admission to the cathedral, 5€/person - entrance to the belltower. And there is a WC :)

If you're in town, there's no way you should miss it. It's not just about the aesthetics of the church but the whole vibrant atmosphere around it. If you're into a bit of chaos, you'll enjoy various groups engaging in different activities, singing, protesting, and more. But if you get tired of the commotion, the tranquility of the Rhine River is just around the corner, along with great places to eat

Amazing and breathtaking, a true feat of human engineering. Free entry into cathedral proper, but small fee if you want to climb the tower (~500 steps) or explore the treasury. Main church has plenty to see and its easy to relax and enjoy the organ every so often. Mass is available quite frequently. Such a beautiful and impressive church! Definitely worth a trip to see!

Impressed by the large nave of this cathedral, the Dom in Cologne. Luckily I had my wide-angle lens with me to capture the overwhelming size. The tower was started in 1248 and completed in 1880. The 165 meter high towers are imposing.

Can I please give this church 10 stars?!? The best building I have seen in my life. 🤯🤯🤯 Gorgeous outside, massively impressive. Amazing inside, and huge!! Truly the most impressive place I have ever been. The hubby suggested we go on Friday and the lines were non-existent. On Saturday, the line was wrapped around the square. Overall 10/5!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lovely cathedral. It’s quite big. I loved the stained glass windows they were very beautiful. It’s a lovely place to visit if you are in cologne, has a lot of history in it. It was very beautiful and the details are amazing! Would definitely recommend you go see it. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is that there was scaffolding on the cathedral when I went (I guess they were doing repairs or something )

Oh my gosh, the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is absolutely stunning. This place is a must-see when you are visiting Köln. The architecture, both inside & out, is so ornate and beautiful. The stained glass windows are stunning. Inside, it's peaceful and forces a moment of reflection when you visit. My partner & I stopped by initially on a rainy Sunday afternoon (at the beginning of our trip) on our way to dinner. We found that tickets were not required to visit and there was no wait (although, please note that we did not take a guided tour). The views of this cathedral are also lovely from the adjacent Hohenzollern Bridge, which crosses the Rhine.

The scale of this place impresses me each time I visit. It's an incredible work of art and history. 300 years to build. It would be amazing if restorations were able to occur more quickly to remove more of the black from the exterior. It's truly amazing!

Dom is a must visit, it’s a huge structure and rich in history. Every tiny bit you’ll see has a history. It’s right next to cologne HBF. The view from top is breathtaking but accessibility can be an issue for some people. The stairs are really tiny and it’s just round and round where people are both going up and down at the same time. I recommend not to go up when it’s a peak for tourists but highly recommended for a visit.

Gothic cathedral, built between 1248 and 1880, with a 300-year interruption. The cathedral is the icon of Cologne and the two spires (over 150m high) can be seen from many miles away. The inside is replete with art work, medieval and modern (some recent glass windows), a beautiful organ, and the immense golden shrine of the Three Magi, also patron saints of Cologne. All in all, a beautiful spiritual place.

Fantastic main sight of the fourth biggest city in Germany. A total must see. If you seek a sporty challenge and it's leg day today - make sure to take one hour for a walk upstairs to reach the top. You have a awesome view in every direction. The stairs spin their way up in close circles, so it's a challenge. Mask control due to covid19. Take warm clothes, it's windy up there

Cologne Cathedral (German: Kölner Dom, officially Hohe Domkirche Sankt Petrus, English: Cathedral Church of Saint Peter) is a Catholic cathedral in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne and of the administration of the Archdiocese of Cologne. It is a renowned monument of German Catholicism and Gothic architecture and was declared a World Heritage Site[4] in 1996.[5] It is Germany's most visited landmark, attracting an average of 20,000 people a day.[6] At 157 m (515 ft), the cathedral is currently the tallest twin-spired church in the world, the second tallest church in Europe after Ulm Minster, and the third tallest church in the world.[7] It is the largest Gothic church in Northern Europe and has the second-tallest spires. The towers for its two huge spires give the cathedral the largest façade of any church in the world. The choir has the largest height to width ratio, 3.6:1, of any medieval church. Construction of Cologne Cathedral began in 1248 but was halted in the years around 1560,[9] unfinished. Work did not restart until the 1840s, and the edifice was completed to its original Medieval plan in 1880.[10] Cologne's medieval builders had planned a grand structure to house the reliquary of the Three Kings and fit its role as a place of worship for the Holy Roman Emperor. Despite having been left incomplete during the medieval period, Cologne Cathedral eventually became unified as "a masterpiece of exceptional intrinsic value" and "a powerful testimony to the strength and persistence of Christian belief in medieval and modern Europe".[4] Only the telecommunications tower is higher than the Cathedral.[ When construction began on the present Cologne Cathedral in 1248 with foundation stone, the site had already been occupied by several previous structures. The earliest may have been for grain storage and possibly was succeeded by a Roman temple built by Mercurius Augustus. From the 4th century on, however, the site was occupied by Christian buildings, including a square edifice known as the "oldest cathedral" that was commissioned by Maternus, the first bishop of Cologne. A free-standing baptistery dating back to the 7th century was located at the east end of the present cathedral but was demolished in the 9th century to build the second cathedral. During excavations of the present cathedral, graves were discovered in the location of the oldest portion of the building; including that of a boy that was richly adorned with grave goods and another of a woman, popularly thought to be Wisigard. Both graves are thought to be from the 6th century. Only ruins of the baptistery and the octagonal baptismal font remain today.[citation needed] The second church, called the "Old Cathedral", was completed in 818. It was destroyed by fire on 30 April 1248, during demolition work to prepare for a new cathedral.[citation needed] Medieval beginning Edit In 1164, the Archbishop of Cologne, Rainald of Dassel, acquired the relics of the Three Kings which the Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick Barbarossa, had taken from the Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio, Milan, Italy. (Parts of the relics have since been returned to Milan.) The relics have great religious significance and drew pilgrims from all over Christendom. It was important to church officials that they be properly housed, and thus began a building program in the new style of Gothic architecture, based in particular on the French cathedral of Amiens.[citation needed] The foundation stone was laid on 15 August 1248, by Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden.[12] The eastern arm was completed under the direction of Master Gerhard, was consecrated in 1322 and sealed off by a temporary wall so it could be used as the work continued. Eighty-four misericords in the choir date from this building phase.[citation needed] In the mid 14th century work on the west front commenced under Master Michael. This work ceased in 1473, leaving the south tower complete to the belfry level and crowned with a huge crane that remained in place as a landmark of the Colo

(Translated by Google) The south bridge is on the left bank of the Rhine and is a listed building. I like the bridge because of the old structure and graffiti. Even in hot weather, people often lie down and grill here on the Rhine. The view over the Rhine is inviting. You can also watch freight traffic. In winter there are often homeless people inside. Accordingly, there is an almost permanent smell of urine. Conclusion: an iconic bridge. (Original) Die Südbrücke befindet sich auf der linken Rheinseite und steht unter Denkmalschutz. The architecture is great, so many minute details. Entry Fees - Free Transport - Take the S-bahn, it’s next to the Cathedral The weather in Cologne changes every minute. In one hour, there was rain, hail, cloudy/breeze and bright sunshine. So be prepared for that.

Beautiful cathedral inside and out. Do make sure to see it when it’s dark, it will look different with the lights up. When we came, the timing changed from 10am to 12pm due to a special service. So be sure to buffer some time for surprises.

This is one of the beautiful cathedral and you can admire at it's external beauty all day. Very close to the train station and during Christmas time, Christmas markets are there around where you can buy Christmas presents or have any eateries or drinks. And also they play song and music there during Christmas.

great interior and free. outside also beautiful but it would be better cleaned. you can’t miss it from pretty much 50% of the city. it’s right in front of the stations exit so even if you are just waiting for your next train in the station just walk 2 minutes and visit this beautiful place. you need your covid pass to enter but you can en enter for free.

Very big, very old. That’s about ask you need to describe this church. It took them 800 years to finish building it and now they have to continuously maintain it. Seems like they are doing a pretty good job to me.

This is from far away one of the most imposing and majestic cathedral from Germany and I dare say Europe. Near the train station and other touristic places. In the day before Christmas(24), you cannot climb the catheral, nor go to the treasures because is closed, so keep that in mind.

The architecture on this building is breathtaking and for days every time I looked at it, the feeling it gave was beautiful. We did not have it on our itinerary to visit the first day but really glad we did as when we entered the organ music was playing. Wow, so intense and lovely. I've never experienced that before and absolutely loved it. It stopped a few minutes later and never came back on, so timing was just perfect to be able to hear it! The inside of the cathedral is just as beautiful as the outside. In all, this has been one of my favorite cathedral visits to date.

Beautiful, stunning and majestic cathedral. Definitely the highlight of Cologne’s monuments. The entrance is free although you need to pay about €4 if you want to walk up the tower for a view. Be careful as there’s more than 500 steps to the top! Also be prepared to walk through the cathedral at snails pace due to the massive number of visitors.

Located in the heart of cologne, right next to the train station. This cathedral is so magical and the view is breathtaking. Would suggest early hours to avoid the crowd. Also there are some relaxing places outside the cathedral. Beautiful at night with lights on. This is also under one of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

The Cologne Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of St. Peter and Mary or the Cathedral of St. Peter, is a historic Roman Catholic cathedral located in Cologne, Germany. It is one of the city's most famous landmarks and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Cologne Cathedral is an impressive example of Gothic architecture, with its twin spires rising to a height of 157 meters (515 feet). It is the tallest cathedral in Germany and the third tallest in the world. The cathedral was begun in 1248 and was completed in 1880, making it one of the longest construction periods of any cathedral in the world. Inside the cathedral, visitors can admire the elaborate stained glass windows, the Gothic altars, and the high altar, which is adorned with gold and silver. The cathedral also contains a number of valuable works of art, including the Shrine of the Three Kings, a reliquary containing the remains of the Biblical Magi. The Cologne Cathedral is a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year. It is open to the public daily, and guided tours are available for those interested in learning more about the cathedral's history and architecture.

One of the main attraction in cologne. The architecture of the cathedral is one among the best in Europe. I would suggest to go a little early to skip the crowd. You can also take a glance to the cathedral if you have some additional waiting time in cologne train station as it situated right next to it.

A magnificent gothic style church set in the heart of Cologne, and a must-see for any tourist visiting the city. Apart from visiting the church, I also recommend doing the 533 step climb (on very winding stairs, be warned) to the top of the cathedral to enjoy an absolutely stunning view of the city of Cologne.

What an extraordinary cathedral! I visited here a few decades ago and it was great to be able to come back again in 2023. Was here on a Sunday; there was a service ongoing. It was great for many visitors also be able observe the service quietly in the back of the cathedral. What an experience! To see the rest of the cathedral, one would have to come back after 1PM on Sunday.

The Cologne Cathedral, located in Germany, is known for its stunning Gothic architecture and impressive size. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most visited landmarks in the country. Visitors often praise its intricate design, intricate stained glass windows, and the breathtaking views from its tower. The cathedral's history, dating back to the 13th century, adds to its allure. It's also worth noting that the Cologne Cathedral houses the Shrine of the Three Kings, which is said to hold the remains of the Biblical Magi.

MASSIVE!! Just so big when you get inside. Of course lots of people taking pictures but you get a great feel for just how a structure this big has been standing for so long. It makes you appreciate the work and time that went into building it starting in 1248 A.D to the 1800s so needless to say took a few years . This is a must stop and see while in Köln.

A place with long history. Really impressive as a structure, both the external and the interior. The view can be collosal if looked up at certain angles. That goes too if been looked from a distance, especially from near the river and at night times. The internal structure emphasises on spirituality through its own architecture. Dimensions are extended, especially at height aspect. Some of it's catacombs are accessible. Historic facts are really interesting, regardless your point of view and extend at a very wide time layout, reaching recent times. A must seen and experienced spot, centrally located at city of Cologne.

The Dom is incredible and I have visited many times. The architecture is amazing. We visited yesterday and there was a huge queue to get inside. There has never been queues before when I've visited previously. It looked like people were being searched upon entering. You can also go to the top if you so wish. Will certainly visit again next time I am in Köln.

Magnificent cathedral with 600 years of age. The blackness seems like coming from the residues of air attacks during WW2. It is the symbol of the city, you can found it in every souvenirs you get. We visited it twice, one was on a sunday evening which I don't recommend that strongly. The people around the cathedral after the dark has fallen didn't seem that nice.. Yet our second visit was on a weekday around noon. It was better to see around and take nice photos.

Yet when I came out of the train station and saw the huge, enormous size of the cathedral and the incredible attention to detail in the architecture ... well, it is mind-blowing. Free to enter. Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 1996, by UNESCO. The Cologne Cathedral is a majestic structure, its impact lives up to the 630 years that it took to be built from 1164 with the arrival of the relics of the 3 Magi from Milan to Cologne. You can imagine that it became an important pilgrimage site… The construction of the Gothic style went through several moments and for almost 300 years the works of the cathedral were stopped resuming in 1880. Several situations put this heritage at risk: the cathedral served as a deposit of weapons for the troops of the French Revolution led by Napoleon Bonaparte who settled in Cologne in 1794. Two world wars are on his curriculum, but the main villain today is the pollution that corrodes his different types of stones. It is very close to the city hall and is one of the symbols of the city.

A medieval Gothic masterpiece that miraculously survived wartime bombing. In 1164, the archbishopric of the German city of Cologne acquired the purported remains of the Three Kings who, according to the Bible, had brought gifts to the infant Jesus. Enclosed in a golden reliquary made by German goldsmiths, these sacred relics attracted thousands of pilgrims to Cologne from all over Europe. In 1248, work began on building a vast new cathedral to house the reliquary and receive the influx of visiting worshippers. Interrupted construction. Designed in the elegant High Gothic style then fashionable in Europe, the cathedral was a supremely ambitious building. By the end of the 15th century, it was still not completed, and both money and inspiration had run out. Work on the cathedral did not resume until 1842. The twin spires that are the building’s crowning glory were finally completed in 1880: at 515 ft (157 m) high, they were then the tallest man- made structures in the world. During World War II, Cologne was heavily bombed, and the cathedral suffered multiple hits by high-explosive and incendiary devices. Astonishingly, the building survived essentially intact, and restoration has since returned it to its original glory.

The most famous building in Köln is this cathedral in gothic style located next to the Köln Hauptbahnhof. The best time to see this piece of art is early in the morning until 10am. As in that time you can see almost no tourists near the Cathedral and take a lot of good photos. Also, the second best time to see it after sunset.

Photo 5 - Fountain with gnomes - created as a monument to female curiosity based on the poem Kopish, which tells the legend of the Cologne gnomes. The essence of the legend: in the old days in Cologne lived very hard-working gnomes who helped craftsmen to finish their work at night. Dwarves worked under one condition - no one should have seen them. And everyone was satisfied and happy until the wife of a tailor out of curiosity decided to spy on the dwarves. The dwarves noticed this and left the city for good. Thus, due to the curiosity of one woman, the craftsmen of Cologne were left without their assistants. І всі були задоволені і щасливі до тих пір, поки дружина одного кравця з цікавості вирішила підглянути за гномами. Гноми це помітили і назовсім пішли з міста. (Translated by Google) Anyone who looks at Cologne, wherever it is, will inevitably see the towering spiers of the cathedral appear. The sight of the huge Gothic building leaves you breathless both for its majestic grandeur and for its striking beauty. Even the interior of the church fascinates for the austere grandeur of the naves, for the many artistic and religious treasures kept. The only flaw: the square facing the main facade of the cathedral is too narrow to accommodate such a mammoth building.

(Translated by Google) When it was completed in 1880, it was the tallest building in the world with a total length of 157m. During my stay in Frankfurt, I suddenly bought a Shinkansen ticket because I was in Germany. I visited with my mother, who was 80 years old at the time, with her clothes on. It was sweet that I thought about climbing because I came here with such a feeling. A round-trip 1046 spiral staircase was waiting there. Moreover, since it is a one-way street, it is difficult to turn back. After all, the view when I climbed up was the best with a sense of accomplishment. The appearance of sitting right in front of Cologne station is a masterpiece just by looking at it from below, but it is still recommended to climb it. Absolutely gorgeous!!! We loved seeing this. Fair warning, the 509 steps are quite intense with a mouth mask and 27 degrees Celsius. Take it easy and bring water. Don't be afraid to take some breaks because it can take quite a while to reach the top.

Beautiful building and I have been here in amazement. The inside is also very impressive to see, and out of respect I lit a candle for lost family members. This felt very good. This church is so big that you can walk around here for a long time. It is completely worth the time. If you like heights, you could also go to the top. However, I did not do this because of my fear of heights.

  • 5/5 Modar A. 2 years ago on Google
The building is just amazing! And the city view is great from the top of the tower (148 m high) but it's reach by climbing 533 steps.

  • 5/5 Bobby F. 2 years ago on Google
Awesome cathedral: beautiful stained glass, stunning architecture. I highly suggest you take the time to climb the steps to the top of the tower, the signed says 553 steps and let me tell you that your legs will be feeling it afterwards. Then go inside and check out the stained glass windows, take the tour (I wasn't able to) so you can see all of the cathedral. Afterwards, go sit at one of cafes in the square, drink a beer or coffee, and enjoy the sites!

We have been here countless times, for Christmas festivals, for city shopping, and for climbing up the Dom. It was a great exercise, and at the top we had some stunning views of Köln. The steps are very small and narrow and you have to walk down the same steps you take up. This causes some traffic issues and was a little uncomfortable during covid, but they require vaccinations to do this. It’s a huge tourist destination, but it’s also directly next to all the main attractions. We always love visiting Köln and walking around the main square.

  • 5/5 Arnova Abdullah N. 2 years ago on Google
To enter into the cathedral 3G rule is applied. I showed my digital vaccination certificate. No ticket was required. Inside and outside both have breath-taking structure!

  • 4/5 N R. 2 years ago on Google
Majority of sites within Cathedral coded due to Covid. Enjoyed outside and part of the indoors. Need to bring proof of vaccination and wear masks. Was at this Cathedral few years ago, when all rooms where accessible. Gorgeous!

It’s a beautiful building from the outside, still haven’t visited it inside. My favorite view is going to the lather side of the Rhine and watch the sunset with the cathedral in the background.

The Cologne Cathedral is absolutely amazing and very huge. Visit the platform and enjoy the view after you climbed up the stairs. A MUST SEE when you visit Cologne in Germany.

  • 5/5 Salome K. 2 years ago on Google
Extremely beautiful outside and inside. Must to see in Germany. You can go up and enjoy the view and take a look to the cathedral more close. P.s.There is long climbing way and not recommended people with claustrophobia

The shere enormity of this cathedral is truly amazing. Stained glass is like nothing you have ever seen.

Oh my! Very magnificent masterpiece of architecture. That's why I adore old Europe. It's impressive and monumental.

  • 5/5 Andy C. 2 years ago on Google
A beautiful place, free entry, but donations are requested. We were lucky enough to hear the Organ playing we climbed the tower (not for the unfit or feint of heart) 500 steep steps on a tight circular staircase. Fantastic views of Köln although the chicken wire enclosing the walk way spoils it a bit. The Bellfry was open and this gives a bit of respite from the steps 3/4 of the way up.

A place should be seen! Such a gorgeous building and art of architecture. I was lucky to visit it during a nice weather clear sky :)

Visited Cologne Cathedral, German Kölner Dom, Roman Catholic Cathedral Church many years ago. I wish I could visit this place again with loved ones. Love the place and all the buildings surrounding so much. I'll be back....hopefully.

A wonderful look into the past. Great architecture and detail in the church. A must see for anyone visiting Germany.

The Köln dom exceeded my expectations, it was unbelievable to finally see it face to face. Gothic architecture at its best, well maintained and there were renovations happening. Had the chance to go inside and light a candle. It’s the tallest building at 157 metres in Köln and no other building is allowed to exceed it. Honestly an experience of a life time, it almost feels like you are in a movie. If you are traveling here during COVID times, please have a negative COVID schnell test and your ausweis (passport). I have had the pleasure of visiting the dome thrice and each time felt like the first time. Truly a great peace of architecture and if you have the Chance, please visit the amazing Place.

It's a must to visit. Very beautiful from outside and even inside. It's a huge huge structure.. each & every inch of this has been created artistically. You can climb & watch the city.

Amazing gothic style cathedral, kinda cool cause there’s a crypt inside! Located centrally in HaupBahnHoph station. Nice to see during the day and even at night. The queues can get long to go inside. Some parts are being renovated.

  • 5/5 Peter M. 2 years ago on Google
Impressive view. Best place to visit while in Cologne. The inside has tall, well decorated ceilings. The windows hold a lot of history with their painting. The pews and altar are worth the view of a lifetime. It has its original painting on the outside with thick and solid pillars towering the floors. I will sum the view with one word, breathtaking.

It is very magical and very near to the train station (hbf) so you can see it directly when you exit the station. You can also keep walking around the town and street in front of the cathedral and you can find beautiful places to eat or to drink🍹.

  • 5/5 Edwin M. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful gothic architecture, it took several hundred years to build. Inside the cathedral there are art pieces everywhere, I liked the mosaics and the architecture itself. There is no entry fee, you just have to be respectful of the fact it is a church. Enjoy it!

I highly recommend taking some time to visit "The Dom!" The architecture and craftsmanship that went into that structure are astounding. If you're up for it, climb The Dom and then let your legs rest inside as you take in all the beauty within. Buy the guidebook in the gift shop so you can read more about the artwork and specific features as you're taking it all in. It's a beautiful piece of history to behold.

That's amazing! A visual masterpiece. Architecturally fascinating. A historical masterpiece with the works inside. If you have a chance to go Cologne, you must see Dom Church.

  • 5/5 Kerry C. 1 year ago on Google
One of the largest and most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen. It has a museum next to the Temple to see some exhibits about the history of the temple. To enter this space you must pay a ticket. To see the rest of the cathedral is free.

Amazing architectural gem is the cathedral of Cologne Germany. It took 500 years to build and it is not difficult to understand why. Gothic and ornate and intricate, the many crenellations, pillars and statues keep your eyes roving from spot to spot. Inside, there are incredible mosaics, tombs and more carvings and statues. The skeletons of the 3 Kings are relics housed in a gold sarcophagus or arc type structure. Do not miss this incredible building when you visit Cologne.

  • 5/5 Charlene E. 1 year ago on Google
An awesome cathedral to visit if you are in Köln. you are able to walk up to the very top, for a family of 4 was 12€. Be aware though, there are just over 500 steps to the top and no lifts so you do need to be a bit fit! Once at the top the views are incredible. If you don't feel like climbing 500 steps, you will love the inside of the cathedral, it's stained glass windows and high ceilings captivate everyone.

  • 5/5 Rahul R. 1 year ago on Google
Truly a magnificent piece of architecture. The humongous size does tend to blow your mind away! There's no entrance fee, hence pretty crowded but could still grab few nice pictures. Definitely a must visit for Köln

Wow! Such a great Cathedral! So many interesting features. It is absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend visiting it. It's free to enter but the guided tour is worth the €10. Also it's extra for the treasury and climbing the South tower

St. Peter's Basilica is the largest church in the world and perhaps the best known church. The basilica is located in the heart of the Vatican and has an interior area of 15,160 square meters and an exterior area of 21,095 square meters. How many steps is the Cologne Cathedral? Although the entrance to the cathedral is free; Visits to the tower and treasury sections are chargeable. A visit to the tower costs 6 Euros, and the entrance to the tower and a visit to the treasury are 8 Euros. Cologne Cathedral, which has 533 steps, impresses tourists with its city view.

  • 5/5 Mare 9 months ago on Google
Such a spectacular cathedral both inside and out. I came out of my way to Cologne just for the cathedral and it was well worth it! No tickets needed to enter! It’s a church! I was worried about dress code usually Catholic Churches like the Vatican don’t let you enter if you are a woman and your knees/shoulders are exposed. This church didn’t have any restrictions on dress code.

  • 5/5 Sheridan J. 8 months ago on Google
Stunning and absolutely breathtaking! If you’re in Cologne, it’s worth joining the thousands of tourists and seeing this architectural marvel. It’s free to go inside and take a look around too!

One of the biggest and the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever been to! You can easily go there by trains as it is located next to the train station. Inside the cathedral, there are many beautiful stained glass windows and I really liked the statues. No entry fee but there are a lot of visitors.

  • 5/5 Thomas D. 9 months ago on Google
Towering Gothic Cathedral beside the train station. The interior was beautifully decorated and well maintained. There's a side entrance that lets you climb up one of the bell towers. It's a very long climb in narrow winding staircases, but the experience and views are worth it.

The cathedral looks lovely. Just a few steps away from Hauptbahnhof. The exteriors and interiors are beautiful with intricate designs, sculptures and mosaic works. Totally worth the visit.

The Cologne Cathedral is a magnificent architectural masterpiece that I had the pleasure of visiting. This Gothic-style cathedral, located in Cologne, Germany, is truly a sight to behold. With its towering spires reaching towards the heavens and intricate stained glass windows, it is no wonder the cathedral has garnered so much admiration and recognition. The interior of the cathedral is equally awe-inspiring. The high ceilings and ornate carvings that adorn the walls add to the sense of grandeur and historical significance that this beautiful building possesses. I was particularly captivated by the organ, which is a remarkable feat of engineering and craftsmanship. The atmosphere inside the cathedral is one of reverence and tranquility, allowing visitors to appreciate the art and spirituality that encompasses them. Exploring the Cologne Cathedral was an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city.

  • 5/5 Lissycho W. 8 months ago on Google
Right when you get off the train this majestic beauty is the first thing you see. I was surprised how intact it is for its old architectural age and is very well maintained. The shear size is incredible and even my 0.5 point mode had a difficult time capturing the whole building. If you walk around the little streets there are cute restaurants, buildings and cute back alleys for pictures.

  • 5/5 Chelsea M. 8 months ago on Google
Very nice cathedral, not expensive and you're able to go in the tower for a nice view over Cologne. There's only one stair going up and down, so be ready for a climb. The treasure chamber is a very nice bonus to go and look at.

I am a 44 year old male in average shape and I was able to take the stairs to the top, amazing experience. Colongue Cathedral is a working Roman Catholic Church, I did get to attend a mass. This is the biggest church that I have ever seen. It was built in stages starting around 1250 AD. There was a massive rebuild after the war.

The Cologne cathedral was a great experience. The first European cathedral I have visited. It was an awe-inspiring visit. It was hard to describe the feeling when entering the main hall, but from all the stained glass to the large organ on the second level and the crypto below. Would highly recommend visiting this stop.

Incredible and impressive! Don't forget you can view the treasury at a separate entrance. There is also a separate entrance for those who want to climb the 500+ steps towards the top of one of the towers. We didn't have time to do that but want to next time we visit.

  • 5/5 Vishesh S. 8 months ago on Google
Its grand. You can imagine the height only when you are below it or climb the tower. There is a 9 Euro ticket to the museum and to climb the tower which has no elevator. The architecture is beautiful.

My visit to Cologne Cathedral in 2014 was an extraordinary experience that left me in complete awe of this architectural masterpiece. As one of the most magnificent cathedrals in the world, it surpassed all expectations and remains a cherished memory. The sheer grandeur of the Cologne Cathedral is simply breathtaking. Its soaring Gothic spires reaching towards the heavens are a testament to the skill and dedication of the craftsmen who built it over centuries. Standing before its intricate facade, I was humbled by the intricate details and the sense of history that emanated from every stone. Stepping inside, the vastness of the cathedral's interior was both overwhelming and captivating. The play of light filtering through the magnificent stained glass windows created an ethereal atmosphere that filled the space with a sense of tranquility and spirituality. The cathedral's art and artifacts further enriched my visit. The stunning altars, sculptures, and paintings showcased the rich religious and cultural heritage of the region, providing a deeper understanding of its historical significance. The ascent to the top of the cathedral was an unforgettable adventure. Climbing the narrow spiral staircase rewarded me with panoramic views of Cologne, and it was worth every step for the breathtaking sight of the city below. Cologne Cathedral is undoubtedly a marvel of human ingenuity and devotion. Its beauty and historical importance make it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Germany. I cherish the memories of my visit, and I hope to return someday to marvel at its timeless splendor once again.

Beautiful historic visit to this cathedral. Pay extra to go to the treasury ! Fascinating treasures and unique discoveries await! Could have kept exploring all day, looking at the carvings and the stained glass everywhere.

Absolutely stunning medieval, gothic cathedral that dominates the centre of Cologne. The stained glass is incredible. Don’t miss the beautiful items in the treasury under the church or fail to climb the 500 steps to the top of the south tower.

Such a great experience visiting this place. Tallest cathedral in the entire world. It's so crowded. Located very near to the railway station and the commercial markets are located very near to the cathedral. The inside architecture of the cathedral is stunning and such a tall doom from inside the cathedral. There is a treasure near the cathedral. A lot of paid toilets are located near the cathedral. There is a lake near the cathedral where one can spend time with family and friends. Much happening place.

A beautifully crafted cathedral of mighty dimensions. In winter, there is a "Christmas market" next to it, where you can treat yourself to various delicacies such as mulled wine, pretzels,... In summer, the cathedral offers a pleasant refreshment.

I highly recommend a visit, to this amazing piece of architecture. The Cathedral is open to visit, don't miss the chance to see the inside, with beautiful painted windows and magnificent furniture. Also possible to get a guided tour to the tower.

The main attraction of Cologne! It can be seen from almost anywhere in the city (if there are no buildings blocking it) - it’s so huge. But in fact, it doesn’t look very good - very blackened on the outside (due to soot from trains, the railway passes very close, and the cathedral has not been cleaned for many years) and very modest on the inside (which, however, is typical for Protestant churches of Northern Europe). That is, the most famous cathedrals in different cities often leave more vivid impressions than the Cologne Cathedral, but there is free admission, and in general the history of the cathedral is quite interesting.

Enjoyable walk around a lovely building. It is worth looking on the outside as well as the inside. Fantastic stain glass. Wheelchair friendly all the way. Good public toilets close to the front door. Parking, unlike the UK, is very affordable. €4 for 2.5 hours.
