An ingenious Exhibition on earth and it's transformation since time immemorial. A reminder of how much influence mankind has had on the earth and how humans can impact the earth more positively. It's a wonderful place to visit with family, friends and loved ones.

Genuinely one of the coolest places I've been in years: inspiring, thought-provoking, engaging. Incredible selection of photography and plenty of interactive elements. The Erdkugel at the end was just dazzling. 10/10 would recommend.

The Gasometer Oberhausen is a former gas holder in Oberhausen, Germany, which has been converted into an exhibition space. It has hosted several large scale exhibitions, including two by Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The Gasometer is an industrial landmark, and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and the Industrial Heritage Trail. It was built in the 1920s, and reconstructed after World War II.

We visited the fragile paradise exhibition last week and only one word comes to mind, 'wow', very impressive. The images, the journey and simply the location is just something you should visit if in the area. The earth globe on the last floor is mindblowing, you can lie down on some pillows and it is just mesmerizing. The exhibition is running until end of 2022.

Lovely experience! The images of the exhibition were beautiful and interesting, although many of them were also heartbreaking. The exhibition is about the fragility of the earth and mankind's impact on the world we live in. There are English translations almost everywhere, if that's something you're looking for! Of course, the main attraction here is the massive globe hanging on the 3rd floor, which is just an absolute treat to look at and already plenty reason to visit! There are a few stairs to sit or lay on, as well as a few large pillows to get a little more comfortable with. You need a little luck if you're looking to score one of those, though, as there aren't all that many if it's a little busier. The globe shows various views of the world, such as shipping and flight routes or typical wind flow. There is also one elevator in the building that will take you to the roof of the building with a stunning view of the globe as you travel up. Usually, the big queue to enter prevents some from experiencing it so I'd like to share a little tip: there is an accessible elevator moving up the staircase outside. We hadn't seen anyone use this, and there was absolutely no queue! You can then descend down the main elevator in the building for the same experience as there is hardly a queue to go back down. Overall very enjoyable, would recommend!

Had a great experience here during the photo exhibits. As an amateur wildlife photographer, exhibits of wildlife and nature photography are always great to admire. The current exhibit features many amazing photographs of experienced photographers. Many of which have works that you've probably seen pass by if you are active on social media. What makes the exhibit as Gasometer so unique is definitely the building itself. Makes for an amazing setting and adds value to the photographs. The room you enter in really puts the emphasis on the images that are spread around the room and really pop due to the print quality. The third room with the large globe projection is also a very unique feature that leaves a great impression! I would really recommend to pay a visit while the exhibit is still open!

It's a very cool building and a unique exhibition hall. The "Fragile Paradise" exhibition is quite good, but it's in the wrong place. I doubt that the audience it targets needs to be explained what it's about. However, the upstairs globe is mesmerizing; that's what truly makes the exhibition worth recommending. Another reason is that the building. The exhibition's theme don't bring anything new; we've seen and heard about it many times before.

At last I could make it to the ausstellung #daszerbrechlicheparadies in Gasometer Oberhausen. At first floor you are definitely mesmerized with all the colors & vivid photos and think upon how unique, precious Earth is. On the second floor the ugly truth strikes you and see how human beings become the parasites of Earth and ruin everything. I am so much into photograpy so it was kind of Stendhal syndrome for me. So this is absolutely a “must go” exhibition👍

(Translated by Google) The exhibition “The mountain calls” was very worthwhile for us. As a photo fan and mountain lover you get your money's worth! The construction of the Matterhorn is good, but not perfect. The projections are well done. Then we climbed 588 steps to the top of the gasometer - highly recommended in beautiful weather. Admission price of 10 € is okay - we had free entry with the RuhrTopKarte! (Translated by Google) The Gasometer is in Oberhausen, near Essen. It is about 117 meters high and has a diameter of about 68 meters. It was built in 1929 and in 1993 it was converted into an exhibition hall. The stair tower has about 600 steps. The tower constantly changes its exhibitions, which last about 1 - 1 1/2 years. Among other things, the following took place: 2013 Christo, 2016 Wonders of Nature, 2018 The Calling of the Mountains, 2021 - 12/30/2022 The Fragile Paradise. Opening hours are from Tuesday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (no guarantee). But there are also special days that go late into the night. Admission currently, 11 euros for adults, reduced 8 euros, family ticket 27 euros. The current exhibition deals with the world and nature at a certain time, how it (has) developed with its environmental influences. There are hundreds of great photos with intact nature, but there is also the other side of the coin. I will not show any photos of the pictures, as there are probably picture rights on them. At the end there is the large exhibition hall where a very large globe is illuminated by projectors. It is very large and it is difficult to estimate its diameter. At the very end you can still go to the gasometer. Either with the inside elevator, outside elevator or over the said 600 steps. The view is gigantic. As a tip: If you don't like so much hustle and bustle, don't come during the weekday in the morning, as there are many school classes there during school hours. For us it was a great trip. It's just a pity that the world and nature are all over the place, and there are plastic bottles and rubbish lying around outside in the open-air area. My conclusion: Great exhibition, incredibly beautiful but also depressing photos. A must see if you're around. By the way, parking spaces are plentiful and free of charge. Monday rest day. (Original) Das Gasometer liegt in Oberhausen, Nähe Essen. Montag Ruhetag.

Immersive awe-inspiring space. Heart wrenching spcial exhibition. Left with a heavy heart and trembling knees after braving the steps up out there. The elevator is a bit of a wait, but the ride is exhilarating. Cool place for all ages.

Well p and informative place, my favourite part was the VR short movie. On third floor there's a gigantic globe where you can just lay down on a cushion and watch, very relaxing. You can also take an elevator to the top floor of the Gasometer, the view from the top is totally worth! Friendly staff and not too crowded even on weekends.

What a wonderful experience, don't miss it It's hard to put into words what it's all about but here we go When you enter the lighting is quite subdued The photographs are amazing, so good you will take photographs of the photographs but you are always aware of ths mass hanging from the ceiling The mass is a 3d representation of the Matehorn. You can see all the fields at the bottom flowing through the the craggy out crops, then the peak of the mountain Sitting below it, it is awe inspiring The mountain is bathed in light at different times of day and night you can see the shadows cast by the sun and moon If this wasn't enough you become aware of what looks like a very calm lake underneath the mountain We walked down towards it, there were quite a few people looking into this calm lake When I approached and looked into the lake I had to , " pull back " in what I can only describe as fear, because it wasn't a lake but a massive mirror and when you looked into it you could see the Matterhorn as if you were dangling from a helicopter suspended above the mountain Now, I have a ridiculous fear of heights and had to steel myself before even looking over the edge of the mirror I honestly frightened the wits out of me We walked around it, it must be around 100 feet in diameter and I still was unable to look into it with any sort of ease It was incredibly and won't have done it any justic with my words Go and see it, you won't be disappointed

(Translated by Google) The landmark of Oberhausen stands for the industrial rise of this city as well as for the failed structural change of the past decades. So this building was saved from demolition, but the content of the exhibitions that took place there was very thin. Only the view of Oberhausen and beyond is worth a visit to the Gasometer.

(Translated by Google) I'm always excited when I visit the gasometer. Starting with the first Fire and Flame exhibition in 1996, I went there every year. It is always fascinating to surrender to the feeling of space that develops when you go to the pane, which is fixed at a height of about 5m, and look upwards. In addition, it is hard to imagine that this disk, which, if I remember correctly, weighs 130t, floated on the furnace gas, that is, moved up and down to ensure that the gas pressure was always the same. The system of sealing on the edges of the pane, which is still there and can be seen, is an ingenious development by M.A.N. and only made this design possible. Whereby one has to break away from the idea that the gasometer is round. It is angular, namely 24 angular. If it were round like a bell gasometer, the system with the sealing on the edges of the pane would not work. The disk gasometers were far superior to the bell gasometers customary at the time, in terms of storage capacity. In addition, significantly less building material was used in relation to the storage capacity. First of all it was cheaper and the gasometer itself became much lighter, which was an advantage when the soil was not so stable. When the gasometer was built in 1929, M.A.N. 190 units have already been delivered and assembled all over the world. After completion, the Oberhausen was the largest in Europe with 347,000m³, but M.A.N. had already built the world's largest with 566,000m³ in Chicago. If you go to the roof, either by elevator, or up the outside staircase, then you can of course enjoy the magnificent view of the Ruhr area from a height of 117m. I always like to come back here. Just great. Einfach toll.

(Translated by Google) We were in the exhibition "The mountain is calling" last year. A very worthwhile exhibition. The pictures were impressive and the space was used very well. We were really excited. But even without the exhibition, the view from the observation deck is worth a visit to the industrial monument. Parking is possible and the visit can be easily combined with other activities in the immediate vicinity. Once an industrial building that is now served for exhibitions. You would like to try the 3rd floor and have a rest along with the hologram show. And those who appreciate the view from high places, should climb higher (with the elevator, of course, where it is very hot)

  • 2/5 alfahad91 4 years ago on Google
Warning: Currently closed! Only opens for special exhibitions. Otherwise the building looks unique and the surrounding area is very nice. You could have a lovely walk along the river where there are beautiful bridges "Slinky springs to fame" and in an interesting electricity tower art display "Zauberlehrling".

Very interesting construction. Great for exhibitions. Inside is quite cold, soon be sure to wear warm clothes. There is lift to the top from inside to go up, ore you can use stairs from outside.

  • 5/5 Maxime V. 7 years ago on Google
Good location, surroundings are very clean. Nice point of view at the top. Long line to do it with the lift instead we did it with the stairway. Exhibition inside was very interesting. Both German and English. The Earth reproduction by video projection was astonishing

  • 5/5 Bienvenido Del R. 2 years ago on Google
A very impresive photograph, video and sound exposition on display on several levels with the observation deck on top. The most impresive is the projection of the world on the third level, it's well worth the price of admision just for the globe projection alone.

Extremely cool, stunning photos with incredible resolution on them. Very interesting globe at the top. Visiting from the UK and loved it here. Some well thought out abstract art on the 2nd floor. Fully recommend going. Has a different theme (each year?), ours was a fragile planet and it was wonderful to see

Great experience going to the top and looking at the views. We weren't brave enough to climb the stairs to the top but we did walk down them rather than use the elevator. The area inside was very interesting with lots of amazing wildlife photographs that have been enlarged and hang throughout the exhibition. Also lots of local history information as well.

  • 5/5 Christian S. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent photo exhibition or rather experience. The venue itself is worth the visit alone and this current installation "Das Zerbrechliche Paradies" is outstanding. Go see it!

  • 4/5 Erwin van den B. 2 years ago on Google
Impressive photography on display, especially the ground floor. Second floor didn't do much for me, nothing new there. Third floor has an amazing display of a huge globe, with weather systems, airtraffic, etc displayed on it. Just lay back and watch the earth turn over your head, very Impressive.

Great panoramic view on the roof. Grandiose animation of the globe on the upper floor. Free parking is possible right in front of the door. A visit to the neighboring Centro is also recommended. Wonderful experience! My visit was at the end of January and it was so cold inside of the gasometer that I was about to cry 😆 but an unforgettable installation of our Mother Earth covered all the discomfort. You can sit and relax there in a quiet sort of a meditation, watch endless strokes of flying airbuses and clouds. Due to the bad weather and rain the view point was not available but elevator was working to bring you to the highest point (not for people with acrophobia).

We stopped by to see “Das zerbrechliche Paradies” exhibit. An excellent exhibition of the earth and humanities impact on the environment. You can go to the roof but we decided to pass on that owing to time as well we were rather exhausted from traveling on the autobahn. Plenty of parking was available when we went and the exhibit is in German and English.
