Mal was außergewöhnliches kaufen. Wieder einmal ein toller Tag.

(Translated by Google) I always like to come back here, because the outdoor area changes very positively from year to year and finally, after years of renovation, the machine hall is open again. In addition, the view from the accessible shaft structure over shaft 2 is always a pleasure. I was here for the first time decades ago when it wasn't a LWL museum and everything was more or less disordered and was also used by external companies as a warehouse or business premises. The building with the wages hall in particular was not in good condition. The two current shaft frames did not exist at this point either, because the original ones had already been dismantled at the end of the 1960s and beginning of the 1970s. I still know the two current shaft frames from their original locations. In particular, I saw the shaft structure above the northern shaft 4 in mining at the Herner colliery Friedrich der Große 3/4 until it was closed in 1978, because I had lived nearby at the time. Brief information about the former shaft 3 Frederick the Great. Year of construction: 1903, (changed in 1912) Builder: Company Orange Gelsenkirchen, scaffolding height to the middle of the rope sheave: 32 m, scaffolding height to the top edge of the roof: 40 m, rope sheave diameter: 6 m, rope diameter: 55 mm, outer dimensions of the cage guide frame: 4.06 x 2, 07 m, hanging bench height: 9 m, rope breaking load: 150 t, weight 104 t. And the shaft structure of the Wilhelmine Victoria 1/4 coal mine in Gelsenkirchen, above shaft 2, is also known to me from its original location. Because the mine was right on the A 42 and I drove past it twice a day on the way to and from work. The colliery was closed in 1960, but the shafts remained open and shaft 1 was in operation as a cable car shaft for the Consolidation colliery until the 1980s. It is great that the two shaft frames were saved and given a new purpose. A visit to the museum is always worthwhile, especially for non-residents. The nice thing is that you can move freely anywhere on the site and should also use it, because there is always something to discover. Sometimes even the little things are interesting, especially for children. If you should get tired after all the great impressions, then there is a chic restaurant that invites you to linger. The associated beer garden is also very attractively designed and very cozy.

Super well designed and curated museum: You will learn about the culture of the German „Bergmann“, how coal shaped the entire ruhr region and see real historic artifacts. If you come during the week it‘s also very quiet and quite relaxing walking around.

The Zeche Zollern II/IV (translated: Zollern II/IV Colliery) is located in the northwestern suburb of Bövinghausen of Dortmund, Germany. The Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG projected Zollern in 1898 as a model colliery. The “mansion of labour” is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and impressive testimonies to Germany's industrial history. Ground up construction began in 1898 on a new site. Most of the buildings of the colliery were built in solid brickwork by the architect Paul Knobbe and were completed in 1904 with the central engine house, in which the most up-to-date generators and machinery used in the colliery were housed. The architecture and state-of-the-art technology support the transition of Gothic-revival to Art Nouveau and the industrialization of the early 1900s. Due to deadline pressure, the central engine house was built in iron framework construction with infilling of red brickwork, planned and executed by the Gutehoffnungshütte. The Art Nouveau styled main entrance was designed by the Berlin architect Bruno Möhring, it shows a lead glazing of blue, green and-glass. Counterpart of the main entrance is the big control board of polished marble in brass mounting, with a brass clock hanging from above. Other buildings on the site include administration bureaus, blacksmith's shop and carpenter's shop, first-aid and fire station with stable, pithead baths, tools store and the central gateway. The museum is an anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

It is nice museum and since this mine was designed as a model mining facility, it is more aesthetic than practical.

Impressive former mine with beautiful late 19th / early 20th century installations. Great view over Dortmund and surroundings from one of the "Fördertürme". Impressive machine hall with the old electrical engines that moved tons and tons of coal from the ground. A great place to experience the industrial past of the Ruhr area.

Visit recommended to this old coal mining installations. The museum is well prepared. You can see real materials, walk through the installations and read explanations of how daily life was. It is possible to walk up in one of the towers being able to contemplate a nice view. They have a few guided tours per day explaining different things. We could watch a mechanical model of the coal mines, really cool.

(Translated by Google) Good luck for. Back then part of my youth, now an industrial monument on the route of industrial culture in the middle of Dortmund Bövinghausen. Surrounded by many other colliery buildings, you can spend a wonderful day here. Plenty of parking spaces available, super nice staff in the museum and during the tour. A well-attended gastro is also on the premises. We weren't eating, but a cheeky look at other people's plates said "That looks delicious and good." If you liked it, just give me a thumb, I would be very happy.

"The Castle of labor" As they call themself, is a 19-20th century coal mine preserved for these days, whole facility is a one big museum. Adult ticket is 5€, you can climb to one of green towers that were used to pull up the carts with coal. Really big attention to kids, but sadly as most of the things are only in German, but still is worth to check out. If you would be travelling from Dortmund there is a direct train to here of the time of writing this stop is around 10minute walk from this place.

It makes for an interesting day out, very informative The view into the Miners and their life section is only in German, as well as the art exhibition. Everything else like the informational placards around the site and the history of the plant are given in German and English.

Nice to see it is in great condition. But please, this is a place that toerists from different nations will visit. So stop with all the info in German only. Start using English also. It will take our visit to a higher level

A great facility with very well prepared information for young and old. All age groups get their money's worth here. There is so much to experience and touch! Well done!! … Really highly recommended - we spent several exciting hours here. Everything is explained very vividly and even without a guided tour we were able to put ourselves in the shoes of the times. …

It was almost good, the industry enthusiast in me loved every bit of machinery I could see. The only problem was that there wasn't any guide or writing in English, and for us being an international tourists, with barely good German, we couldn't understand what was mostly written about the machines, or the medical bay that was shown.

No mention of it on google, fb or their website, but closed between Christmas ‘22 and New Year ‘23. There was a small note on the door once we got there. Disappointing. I’ve mailed them to suggest they edit opening times on fb and website.

This is a place to feel history. The guides really take you back a century to a time when worker rights were non existent. If a miner was badly injured his buddy's would take him back down the shaft, because if he didn't die on the premises the insurance didn't have to pay. Hear the noise of the machines feel the toil. In pursuit of money and a technology that has now brought the planet on the brink of disaster.
