An early morning spectacular. If you want to witness the true beauty of the monument with less crowd, it’s best to visit during the morning. With the sun rising in the backdrop and the golden lit-up sky, it can’t get more beautiful than this. Plus it’s such a great stretch to get some workout done.

You must visit this place if you are a resident of Mumbai or currently residing in Mumbai. It is better to visit it in Day Light because you can see the beautifully carved scriptures and the Beauty of the Gateway of India. The entry inside is absolutely Free, you can visit it anytime and anywhere. You can come here with your Family or with Friends also. Due to Corona pandemic situation, Masks are compulsory for all to avoid Corona patients. Here, you can enjoy boating, look around the beauty of nature, can click photographs for yourself. You can feed birds here. Gateway of India building is built in a proper design and beautifully carved with many scriptures and writings carved. You can park your vehicle outside and roam inside around it. At night it looks wonderful covered with lights. I love visiting this place whenever I come Mumbai and you must also visit this place once A.

Visited this place during sunset, I would recommend to do a ferry ride during sunsets, the experience is just amazing & surreal... Ferry cost around 80-125 INR depends upon which one you select.. please be sure to reach 1 hour before taking the sunset ferry because queues are very long during weekends. Overcrowded as always, but the ferry ride is must do experience.

This place is best to visit in evening or morning. The structure is symmetrical and looks awesome when viewed from sea side. I would suggest that you should travel in ferry. It will be a great experience if you have never gone inside sea. Also you will get some good views of sea and Taj hotel. Just one thing that if you love photography, you will have to click a lot of photos to get good shot building as there are always lots of people visiting there.

The Gateway of India, a majestic landmark in Mumbai, attracts visitors with its historical charm, but the experience is tempered by the weekend crowds. The bustling atmosphere, coupled with ongoing construction, can diminish the tranquility of the visit. Despite this, the option to embark on boat rides to the Elephanta Caves adds an adventurous touch, offering a blend of history and exploration for those willing to navigate through the lively surroundings.

Feel the delight and positive vibes, when you visit this marvelous place. Professional photographers are available here in significant numbers, who can help you to capture a stunning photo of yourself, with the Gateway Of India at the background. You can visit the incredible Elephanta Caves too, by booking a boat from the ferry counter, located near the Gateway of India. Also, cherish the magnificent view of the Taj Hotel from here. There are several bus operators available, providing "Mumbai Darshan" tourism services, from the entrance area of the Gateway of India. It's undeniably one of the "MOST" highly recommended places to visit in Mumbai. 👍🏻

The Gateway of India is an iconic monument located in Mumbai, India. It was built during the British Raj in India and was inaugurated in 1924. The monument serves as a symbol of India's rich colonial history and has become a popular tourist attraction and landmark in Mumbai. It overlooks the Arabian Sea and is often bustling with tourists and locals enjoying the scenic views and the surrounding area.

The Gateway of India stands tall and proud, a timeless symbol of Mumbai's rich history and vibrant culture. Stepping onto its bustling grounds, one is instantly enveloped in an atmosphere of excitement and wonder. The majestic arch, with its intricate carvings and imposing stature, commands attention and reverence. As I approached, the sight of it against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea took my breath away. Wandering amidst the crowd of tourists and locals alike, I couldn't help but marvel at the sheer grandeur of the monument. It serves as a gateway not just to the city, but also to a journey through time, offering glimpses into India's colonial past and its journey to independence. The vibrant energy of the surrounding area only adds to the experience. Food vendors tempt with the aroma of freshly cooked delicacies, while street performers captivate audiences with their talent and skill. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle, there are moments of tranquility. Sitting by the waterfront, watching the boats drift lazily across the waves, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. Visiting the Gateway of India is not just about witnessing a landmark; it's about immersing oneself in the heartbeat of Mumbai. It's about creating memories with friends and family that will last a lifetime. For me, it was a day well spent, filled with wonder, laughter, and the joy of discovery.

"I visited the Gateway of India for the first time last week and I was absolutely blown away. The architecture is stunning and the views are incredible. I especially loved sitting on the steps and watching the boats go by. It was such a peaceful and relaxing experience. I also really enjoyed learning about the history of the Gateway of India. It was built in 1924 to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India. It's a really important landmark in Mumbai and it's clear to see why it's so popular with tourists. If you're visiting Mumbai, I highly recommend checking out the Gateway of India. It's a must-see for anyone interested in history or architecture. And even if you're not, it's still a great place to relax and enjoy the views."

Gateway of India situated in Mumbai is one of the most famous structures in India. This place is also the entrance point of India if you are coming from the seaways. British architect George Wittet designed this building structure. This historical building was built in British ruling time in India. Often times Gateway of India tops the must-visit places in the list of foreign visitors. There are so many Sun Kissed Monuments and buildings in the Mumbai which are visit worthy. But the Gateway of India is a perfect destination to see the culture, tropical sea level and history at once. Almost from every country and race, people visit here. You can find children and old persons enjoying the view and you will also witness the local vendors trying to sell their stuff to those visitors. In simple words, if you are a real traveller and wanna explore the world most beautiful and historical places, you should visit here.

Must visit tourist spot in Mumbai with a great view of Arabian sea and the Taj Hotel. It's been close to 100 years the monument is still standing tall, the maintenance could have been take care of in a much better way. Don't come here at noon or during hot sun the weather may not let you enjoy your time at the fullest.

Visiting the Gateway of India was a mesmerizing experience. Its majestic arch and intricate design instantly captivated me. The historical significance of this iconic monument added depth to the visit. As I strolled along the waterfront, the gentle sea breeze and the stunning view of the Arabian Sea left me in awe. The bustling atmosphere with locals and tourists created a lively ambiance. Capturing photos of the grand structure was a must. However, I wish there were more informative plaques explaining its history. Overall, the Gateway of India is a must-visit destination in Mumbai, offering a glimpse into India's rich heritage and vibrant culture.

My recent visit to the Gateway of India left me in awe of its grandeur. The iconic arch by the Arabian Sea is a sight to behold. The blend of architectural styles is captivating, and the historical significance adds to its charm. The bustling atmosphere around the monument is infectious, with lively street vendors and enthusiastic tourists. I took a boat ride from the Gateway, and the views of Mumbai Harbor were breathtaking. While the monument itself is impressive, the surrounding energy and activities make it a vibrant experience. A must-visit for anyone looking to soak in the cultural and historical richness of Mumbai. The Gateway of India truly stands as a majestic marvel on the city's waterfront.

Went for coffee at the Taj post my Sunday run and just as I crossed the street saw the gateway of India. Had my coffee overlooking it with amazing sea breeze blowing and sunrise. A nice place to chill out but I’m sure it must be getting super crowded during the day and evenings. Nice views. Plenty of other attractions nearby.

This is a pleasurable visit. Good break from a lot of the chaos around. No fee for entry. Just be aware as of Feb 2nd 2022, there is a security checkpoint to be ready for. People with bags right side. All others left side. I wish they had signs posted for that early on. Also there a ton of photographers on site. I have never used them but I was contemplating as they were not asking for much. I don't know what all you would get for 20 rupees.

It was a very pleasant, open, breezy, free place to be in. Now it feels closed and crammed. The approach is narrow, crowded and uncomfortable. Cannot go within the Gateway Arch or even close to it. The Bay is beautiful but because of the park and its fenced in areas it feels claustrophobic. The vast openness of the area has been effectively destroyed. It is better to walk on seaside road, from where the bay with its sailing boats, yachts is a breath taking sight. Historic significance has been reduced to the chaotic traffic, hap hazard parking, crowds and noise. There is no serenity or sanctity of the Gateway & its importance to Mumbai. The sightseeing boats are not the most comfortable or clean. The life jackets are strapped inside plastic bags to the ceiling. In case of an emergency the boat is likely to sink before a life jacket can be taken out. Most times passengers have to hop from one bobbing boat to another shaky boat for the bay tour. It is not an outing recommended for the elderly, small kids, or anyone who is concerned about safety and security.

India gate was constructed to honor the soldiers of India that were killed during world war 1. This structure boasts of a beautiful architecture by India. It was first inaugurated in the year 1931 and it still has the same charm. Also, this structure reminds of us the sacrifices made by thousands of soldiers who have given their lives during the first world war. The essay on India gate is an insight into this famous memorial in India. Whenever someone visits Delhi, they never miss the India gate. Thus, it has become one of the integral parts of Delhi and also a major tourist attraction. The locals as well as the tourists coming to visit Delhi flock this place all around the year. Also, for many locals, the sprawling lawns around the gate on both sides is a nice picnic spot.

One of the best place in Mumbai worth visiting is the Gateway of India, just adjacent to it is the iconic Taj Hotel which has seen many ups and downs over the years. You will feel lot of peace and relaxation at this place. If you are a bird lover, you will find here a lot of pigeons to feed. Moreover, while cruising in the sea, you will find the white sea birds with red special type of beaks as well as crows who follow the cruise the whole way. Please carry some popcorn type packed food material with you, and that is what those birds like to feed on, just throw the food material in the air and look for the real fun!!! They catch in the air, the crows always keep safe distance from those sea birds because sea birds always overpower the crows. I am used to feed the birds just holding the food material in my hand and this habit entertains me a lot, and so will you. From there you may visit Elephanta also. Just keep a good quality digital camera or a cell phone with a good quality camera. So guys, when are you planning to visit this lovely place??? Visit soon and have fun, wishing you all a happy journey. Thanks☺️

This is gate way India located in Mumbai. Very nice to place to visit once in life. The construction of gate way of India is completed in 1924. And inaugurated in December, 1924 . Made on the basis of indo-saracenic style. After its construction the gateway was used as a symbolic ceremonial entrance to British India for important colonial personnel. It has been called a symbol of "conquest and colonisation" commemorating British colonial legacy. The gateway is also the monument from where the last British troops left India in 1948, following Indian independence. It is located on the waterfront at an angle, opposite the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel and overlooks the Arabian Sea. Today, the monument is synonymous with the city of Mumbai, and is amongst its prime tourist attractions. The gateway is also a gathering spot for locals, street vendors, and photographers soliciting services. It holds significance for the local Jewish community as it has been the spot for Hanukkah celebrations, with the lighting of the menorah, since 2003. There are five jetties located at the gateway, of which two are used for commercial ferry operations. The gateway was the site of a terror attack in August 2003, when there was a bomb blast in a taxi parked in front of it. Access to the gateway was restricted after people congregated at its premises following the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, in which the Taj Hotel opposite the gateway and other locations in its vicinity were targeted. In March 2019, the Maharashtra state government proposed a four-step plan to develop the location for the convenience of tourists, following a direction issued by the state governor in February 2019. The gate way of India is most attractive point of international tourists. Jay Hind ?

The Gateway of India is synonymous with Mumbai. It is the most famous monument of Mumbai and is the starting point for most tourists who want to explore the city. Gateway of India is a great historical monument built during the British rule in the country. It was built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai (then, Bombay). Gateway of India was built at Apollo Bunder, a popular meeting place... If you want to know India better, you have to visit here...

A beautiful monument, which looks absolutely gorgeous in the night. A must-see spot for tourists. There is no entry fee to enter the premises. Sadly, its almost always crowded. A nice spot which I don't mind visiting again and again.

the Gateway of India is among the city's most popular attractions, and many sightseeing tours start here. It has strong associations with British power, and became part of a ceremony marking the end of colonial rule in 1948, when soldiers from the Somerset Light Infantry crossed through the Gateway. Today visitors and locals alike flock here to stroll and take in the scenery, particularly around sunset.

Amazing experience here. I tried my life's first ferry experience here Gateway of India is magnificient & historical structure at Mumbai and is a must visit place. A lot of crowd, most without mask. Harbour scene is beautiful. They also have half hour sight seeing boat ride in around 100-150 Rupees. Public toilets & periphery could be better cleaned. Everyone must visit this place in Mumbai

Visiting the Gateway of India during the monsoon was a remarkable experience. The rain added to its grandeur, and the monument looked even more majestic against the grey skies. Despite the weather, there were still many visitors captivated by its beauty. It was a memorable and awe-inspiring sight.

The Gateway of India, situated in Mumbai, is a splendid architectural marvel that holds a significant place in India's history and culture. Standing proudly on the shores of the Arabian Sea, it is a symbol of India's rich colonial past and enduring heritage. Built in 1924, the Gateway of India exudes grandeur and elegance. Its towering arch, crafted in a blend of Indo-Saracenic and Muslim architectural styles, is a mesmerizing sight. The yellow basalt structure is adorned with intricate latticework, adding to its charm. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Gateway of India has witnessed pivotal moments in India's history. It served as the exit point for British dignitaries during colonial rule and later as a site for the departure of the last British troops in 1948, marking India's independence. Today, it stands as a bustling hub for locals and tourists alike. Visitors can stroll along the waterfront, savor street food, and relish panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. The surrounding area is abuzz with activity, making it a must-visit destination in Mumbai. In summary, the Gateway of India is not just an architectural gem but also a living testament to India's journey through history. Its enduring presence continues to make it a captivating symbol of the nation's past and present.

The Gateway of India is one of India's most unique landmarks situated in the city of Mumbai. The colossal structure was constructed in 1924. Located at the tip of Apollo Bunder, the gateway overlooks the Mumbai harbor, bordered by the Arabian Sea in the Colaba district. The Gateway of India is a monument that marks India's chief ports and is a major tourist attraction for visitors who arrive in India for the first time. A favourite spot for tourists, nowadays, this monument attracts vendors, food stalls and photographers. History The main objective behind the construction of the Gateway of India was to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay (Mumbai). In March 1911, Sir George Sydenham Clarke, who was then the Governor of Bombay, laid down the monument's first foundation. Although, this plan was approved only in 1914, the reclamations at Apollo Bunder were completed only in 1919. The architectural design of Gateway of India was fashioned by architect, George Wittet. It took 4 years to complete this monument's construction.

Gateway of India is one of the iconic landmarks in Mumbai and must a visit for any tourist. Apart from the monument itself, the sea and small boats make for a good backdrop, in quite contrast to the majestic Taj palace hotel. If time permits, one can take a short ferry ride or go all the way and visit the Elephant caves. You can take ferry for Alibaug as well from here.

One of the most landmark and iconic locations of Mumbai. This place is always on the list of the people visiting Mumbai. The gate itself has a huge historical significance and the structure is a marvel of beauty from the inside. The sunrise is so beautiful out here with the boats anchored adding to the beauty of the backdrop of this place. You'll also spot sea gulls at this place who during winter will be flying around in swarms and look gorgeous. The view of the Hotel Taj adds to its charm and during the night this place gives a calm warm feeling with the yellow street light glittering through the street. The best place in Mumbai but avoid during the weekends and especially during evening as it is heavily crowded. Best time to go is before 7am as there's hardly anyone around and you can check out this place peacefully.

The Gateway of India is a magnificent historical monument that stands tall in Mumbai, India. It is an iconic symbol of India's colonial history and has become a popular tourist attraction for both domestic and international travelers. As a tourist, visiting the Gateway of India was a must-do experience for me, and I was not disappointed with what I found. Upon arriving at the Gateway of India, I was struck by the sheer size and grandeur of the monument. The towering arches and intricate carvings were truly awe-inspiring. The monument is situated on the waterfront and provides a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea. The area around the monument was bustling with activity, with people from all over the world coming to see this landmark. While there was a crowd when I visited, I found the atmosphere to be lively and exciting.I also had the opportunity to take a boat ride from the Gateway of India to the nearby Elephanta Caves. The boat ride was a great way to see the city from a different perspective, and the caves were an amazing experience. The ancient rock-cut temples and sculptures were a testament to India's rich cultural heritage. I would highly recommend the Gateway of India to anyone visiting Mumbai. The monument is not only a beautiful piece of architecture, but it also provides a glimpse into India's fascinating history. The vibrant atmosphere and cultural experiences make it a must-visit destination for any tourist. While the crowds can be overwhelming at times, they add to the charm and energy of the place.

It was worth a visit.

You can book ferry to alibaug,Mandava Jetty. Also you can book private yatch to celebrate special moments. There are photographers who can click photos and u can take home some good memories with you at just 30 rs per photo. During rush hour/holiday so it's very crowded. Awesome place .The Gateway of India was built to commemorate the visit of King George 5th  and Queen Mary to Mumbai, prior to the Delhi Durbar in December 1911. The monument's design is a combination of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. The arch is of Muslim style while the decorations are of Hindu style. The Gateway of India is considered as "symbolic monument" that represents the city of Mumbai . The Gateway of India is a major tourist destination in Mumbai and a popular gathering spot for locals, street vendors and photographers. The Gateway of India is the most unique landmarks, not only of Mumbai city, but of India as well. The massive structure was built in the year 1924, overlooking the Mumbai harbor, with its location at the tip of the Apollo Bunder (Port). This famous tourist’s destination is actually a monument that is marked as a principal port of India. The Gateway of India was designed by architect George Vittet. After the independence, the last British army had gone back through this gate .This building is called the gate of India for ships coming from the sea route of the Arabian Sea . Gateway of India is one of the most important landmarks in Mumbai and primarily a top attraction on every tourist’s list thanks to its grandeur and undying charm. The structure serves as a beautiful remembrance of the rich cultural heritage and its colonial past.  Gateway of India the first structure to welcome visitors entering by sea and is popularly known as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai. Apart from its’ historic importance, it is also known for its riveting sight of stunning yachts and boats sailing in the azure sea. Gateway of India gleams like an uncrowned prince especially on rainy days as well as during sunrises and sunsets.

The gateway's arch has a height of 26 metres (85 feet) with its central dome being 15 metres (49 feet) in diameter. The monument is built of yellow basalt and reinforced concrete. The stones were sourced locally while the perforated screens were brought in from Gwalior.  The monument faces towards the Mumbai Harbour. There are four turrets on the structure of the gateway, and there are steps constructed behind the arch of the gateway which lead to the Arabian Sea. The monument features intricate stone latticework (also known as the jali work).  The Scottish architect, George Wittet combined elements of the Roman triumphal arch and 16th-century architecture of Gujarat. The architecture also combines indigenous architectural elements with elements of Islamic architecture, known as the Indo-Saracenic.  The harbour front was realigned in order to make an esplanade, which would sweep down to the centre of the town. On each side of the arch, there are large halls with the capacity to hold 600 people.  The cost of the construction was ₹21 lakhs (two million one hundred thousand rupees), borne by the then government. Due to a paucity of funds, the approach road was never built. Hence, the gateway stands at an angle to the road leading up to it.

Being a part of history is always mesmerising. People rarely go and read the slate that describes this place. Regretfully it had become just another background for photos. From being a colonial symbol, to being a symbol of India's successful quest for independence, the Gateway of India has seen it all.

Gateway of India is a great historical monument built during the British rule in the country. It was built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai (then, Bombay). Gateway of India was built at Apollo Bunder, a popular meeting place. Gateway of India is open 24 hours for public, and. it is around 2.5 km far from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal and 2.4 km from Churchgate Railway Station.Very good place. Good for family and couples. Kids can enjoy well. Boats available at reasonable price. This location near sea is very beautiful makes me feel visit this place again and again. One of my most favourite place i visited till date. The gate way of india was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder on their visit to India in 1911. There is no entry fee required to visit this place, but if you are here you should definitely go out for a boat ride. It view and feeling of being surrounded by migratory birds is really breadth taking.

It's not as big as it appears in the pics.(edited 22/10/23 - not that big, but it is still a mid sized monument and worth the visit, i visited once more and after confirming had to change my review, sorry about that)But still a remarkable place to be visited.

The Gateway of India was designed by Scottish architect, George Wittet and the construction work was carried out by Gammon India Limited, the only construction company in India boasting an ISO 9001: 1994 accredited certification in all fields of civil engineering at that time. The structure was built with yellow basalt stones enmeshed with reinforced concrete at the foundations. The stone was sourced locally. The perforated screens were brought from Gwalior. The structure cuts an angle to the road leading to it and stands facing out to the Mumbai Harbor from the tip of Apollo Bunder. The structure is basically a Triumphal Arch, built predominantly in an Indo-Saracenic architectural style with some Muslim elements incorporated. This style of architecture was introduced by the British during their rule in India and it combines diverse elements of the Hindu and Muslim architecture with Gothic cusped arches, domes, spires, tracery, minarets and stained glass, in a uniquely playful style. The rectangular structure consists of three sections. The central arches of the structure are 85 feet high. The central block houses a dome which is 48 feet in diameter and 83 feet in height. On each side of the arch, there are large halls with arches that are covered with intricately carved stone screens and can hold 600 people each. The central dome is joined by 4 turrets and is decorated with intricate latticework, the most prominent features of the entire structure of the Gateway of India. Steps from behind the arch of the Gateway lead directly into the Arabian Sea. The arch frames an impressive view of an expanse of Arabian Sea dotted with fishing boats as well as luxury yachts. The structure is illuminated after nightfall presenting a breathtaking view in combination with the adjacent Taj Mahal Palace hotel and tower.

Mumbai (formerly called Bombay) is a densely populated city on India’s west coast. A financial center, it's India's largest city. On the Mumbai Harbour waterfront stands the iconic Gateway of India stone arch, built by the British Raj in 1924. Offshore, nearby Elephanta Island holds ancient cave temples dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The city's also famous as the heart of the Bollywood film industry.

Gateway of India which is at Mumbai , is one of the prestigious construction. Who visit Mumbai definitely will have to cover this place from here you could see the sea route, boards passing by. Near to this place we could see the famous Hotel TAJ. When we went for the visit, we saw Navy people doing their March rehearsal. On some occasion they do some parade there. Best way to reach there is cabs. Cabs are higher in charges compared to Ola and Uber.

At one point of time, this monument represented the grandeur of the British Raj in India. The total construction cost of this monument was approximately 21 lakhs and the whole expense was borne by the Indian government. A favourite spot for tourists, nowadays, this monument attracts vendors, food stalls and photographers. The passing of the 'First Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry' was recorded as the first main event that took place at the Gateway of India. This ceremony was conducted on February 28, 1948, when the last set of British troops and divisions left India, post-independence. Architectural Layout The structural design of the Gateway of India is constituted of a large arch, with a height of 26m. The monument is built in yellow basalt and indissoluble concrete. The structural plan of Gateway of India is designed in the Indo-Saracenic style. One can also find traces of Muslim architectural styles incorporated in the structure of the grandiose edifice. The central dome of the monument is about 48 feet in diameter, with a total height of 83 feet. Designed with intricate latticework, the 4 turrets are the prominent features of the entire structure of the Gateway of India. There are steps constructed behind the arch of the Gateway that leads to the Arabian Sea. The monument is structured in such a way that one can witness the large expanse of the 'blue blanket' right ahead, welcoming and sending off ships and visitors. Nearby Tourist Attractions The Elephant Caves are located very close to the Gateway of India, and tourists can travel on motor boats to reach the Elephant Islands. Statues of the Maratha leader Shivaji and Swami Vivekananda are installed at the entrance of the Elephant Caves. The Taj Mahal Hotel is India's most prestigious and luxurious hotel and is situated close to the Gateway of India. Visiting Hours People can visit the monument at any time of the day. The best time to visit the Gateway of India is during the period of November to March, as the post-monsoon climate is very pleasant and there are very less chances for downpours at this time. One of India's prized monuments, the Gateway of India was built in 1924. The Gateway of India is a major tourist hub in the city, which is located at Apollo Bunder Waterfront in Southern Mumbai. This monument was built to welcome King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai and years later, the last horde of British troops left India through this gateway.

Yeah it is just a monument that is lying here from years. This place is always crowded. Sun is scorching. You need to wait in line for a lifetime to get in. Nothing is great about this place. This place stinks and we are subject to lot of pollution and risk of Covid 19.

One of only places in the world which is always filled with happiness, romatic couples, families, and friends, who come here from around the world in order to take their selfies. This place has a lot to offer to the visitors, a sixty nine mile long white sandy beach, plenty of sunshine, and Summer Breeze. This place is packed with lots of shops around the beach where you can buy authentic and best food, clothes, shoes, and walk miles with your toes dipping in the sand.

You can visit and shoot photos and videos. You can do boating also visit for elephanta cave. The famous Taj hotel is also placed near of this. So visit and enjoy. Standing an impressive 26 meters tall and overlooking the Arabian Sea, the iconic Gateway of India is a must-see when in Mumbai. Built to commemorate the arrival of King George V and his wife Queen Mary in 1911, this stunning piece of architecture was opened with much pomp and ceremony in 1924 and was, for a while, the tallest structure in the city. Constructed entirely of yellow basalt and concrete and notable for its Indo-Saracenic design, the Gateway of India was also the scene of a rather less jubilant procession of British soldiers in 1948 when India gained its independence. These days, the huge archway provides a stunning backdrop that is as popular among locals as it is tourists. Hot Tip: After visiting the Gateway of India, pop over to the adjacent Taj Mahal Palace and Tower for a delectable High Tea, a fun thing to do in Mumbai since this lovely luxury hotel opened in 1903.

  • 5/5 Nirmiti A. 3 years ago on Google
If you are bored of Malls and restaurant outings then this is a great break from routine ! Sail away in the waters of Mumbai from this beautiful iconic monument which has been the face of Mumbai forever by booking a boat ride at Gateway of India ! There are options of booking private ones too if you want to avoid the crowds ! It’s a great way to feel the calm and peace in the middle of your city life ! It gives great landscapes for some really beautiful clicks !!! Though it’s generally crowded, I would suggest a weekday to avoid the extra weekend rush !

Fine place for tourists. Can visit anytime, its totally free. You can also do some boating stuffs, which might coast you approx-100rs per person. I think 4pm to 6pm is the ideal time to visit this place. It's a decent historical place for photography also.

This is a monument to relish. It was built by Britishers to welcome The King and Queen to Bombay. The place has spacious surrounding, but only minus is there is no shade to rest on a scorching sunny afternoon. The main structure is still intact but needs cleaning. Visitors throng this place throughout the year. From here you can board ferries for elephanta caves.

  • 5/5 Mitesh P. 3 years ago on Google

The Gateway of India is an arch-monument built in Mumbai,India ....it's just 15-20 minutes walkable from CST station and also has different ferries with reasonable rates.Taj hotel is just an amazing place... specially at evening time the view is awesome

  • 5/5 Glenn P. 2 years ago on Google
its a beautiful monument. The entry timings are 730 am onwards. Its better to reach by the earliest. The morning light lets you get some beautiful pics of the gateway and also of the Taj hotel as well. There are a lot of photographers around who will click photos for a nominal price. Gets crowded as the day goes on. the historical significance behind creation of the Getaway only adds to its allure. A must place. There are also ferries leaving for Alibag and the entry is the same for both.

In Mumbai, there is so much worth visiting Monuments and buildings. However, the Gateway of India is a perfect place to experience the culture, tropical sea levels, and history. People are visiting here almost from all countries and races. Children and elderly people are welcomed here to enjoy the view and you can also see local sellers trying to sell their goods to the visitors. In simple words, you should visit here if you really are a traveler who wants to explore the world’s most beautiful and historical sites.

  • 4/5 Vicky V. 2 years ago on Google
The place is so clean and there are many boats available for travelling to another location like elephant caves and Alibag. Architect of the gateway is impressive better go in weekends for relaxed view.

Gateway of India is a beautiful place to see. There are ferry rides on small and big boats. Check the boats before you take the ride so you are not disappointed. I took the ride on roof top. There are professional photographers at a reasonable price who know all the photograph angles and take beautiful pictures and then transfer to your phone.

This is one of the Most Unique landmarks in the City. This is a must visit place if you are visiting Mumbai. This place should not be missed. This is an arch monument which was built during 20th Century. One of the Major Tourist Attraction. Parking area is very less in the area. No Parking for Vehicles. Better to keep somewhere and walk. This can be accessed by Taxis from Mumbai City VT area. Area is usually crowded. Maintained well. Lot of eateries near by.

Life time experience. Boat ride and the guide on board is quite awesome. Gateway of India on one side and Taj on the other hand, offers a majestic view for the tourists. Photographers fery to n fro for taking photos. Boat ride is 160 per person as on December 2021. The view from Arabian sea, while on boat is really awesome.

Place you must visit if you are visiting Mumbai and dont miss the ferry ride. Neat and clean place. Good for family and friends. Although Mumbai police is well vigilant in that area but still precaution are needed from pick pocket. Ferry ride is good in morning were as after sunset it is not that amazing feeling. After sunset there is a walking area near by which can be recommended more than a ferry ride.

    • Witness the hypnotic sunrise and sunsets. • Enjoy an exciting sailing experience surrounded by serene views. • Serves as a complete photographers’ delight. • The Elephanta Caves are situated at an hours’ distance and can be reached by ferry. • You can gorge on the most lip smacking street food that Mumbai has to offer. • Shop for multi colored ethnic wear and handicrafts native to Mumbai.

The Gateway of India is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Mumbai, especially for families and tourists. It is a kids-friendly spot that offers a great outing experience for everyone. The monument has a rich historical significance and is a well-known tourist place. Apart from admiring the grand architecture of the Gateway of India, one should not miss the ferry ride that takes off from here. It is an excellent experience, especially if you are on a date. Booking a ferry ride around sunset is highly recommended as the golden sky and its reflection in the sea water is a mesmerizing sight. The cool breeze touching your cheeks and seagulls flying next to you make it a peaceful and mind-calming experience. Overall, the Gateway of India is a must-visit place for anyone traveling to Mumbai. Whether you're a history buff, architecture enthusiast, or just looking for a family outing, this iconic monument has something for everyone.

If any foreigners are going to visit this place for your sake kindly do not visit as this place is not for civilized people it's for uncivilized people as even though you are paying a correct amount for ferry just because you don't have change or even though they have change they won't give you

The place is charming in its own way and attracts many visitors. It could benefit from some better crowd management and sanitation. The washrooms nearby are not very clean and have a strong smell. The place has room for improvement but it is still worth a visit.

The Gateway of India isn't just a monument but a symbol of the city's rich history and cosmopolitan spirit. Standing tall against the backdrop of the Arabian Sea, it offers a grand welcome to everyone visiting Mumbai. The architecture is a beautiful amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim styles, and the sheer grandeur of the structure is awe-inspiring. I'd recommend visiting early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowd and enjoy a serene sea view. Remember to take a boat ride from the nearby jetty to enjoy a different perspective of the monument! Nearby, numerous vendors, cafes, and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel add to the overall experience. A must-visit when in Mumbai!

Best view of the ocean. Nice experience to ride on the boats and enjoy the sea breeze. The view of Gateway and lighted Taj hotel at night is a sight one should experience from sea. Though I wish the safety while onboarding and off boarding the boat are taken care. Some of the boats are over crowded and don’t have the safety jacket on board.

The place remains crowded as one the attraction of the place. Prefer walking in clear sky cause near lamps and trees there would be many pigeons so you might get ur dress decorated unnecessarily :D Looked like some performance activities were also planned but unfortunately could stay that long.

The Gateway of India stands proudly along the Mumbai waterfront, a majestic arch that welcomes both locals and tourists alike. As I approached, its intricate architecture and historical significance captivated my attention. The colossal structure, built to commemorate King George V's visit, exudes grandeur and colonial charm. The bustling atmosphere around the Gateway adds to its allure, with street vendors offering local delights and boat rides available for a scenic view from the Arabian Sea. As I walked through the arch, I marveled at the intricate details that adorn its facade, telling tales of India's rich past. In the evening, the Gateway transforms into a magical sight with its illuminated arch and the cityscape as a backdrop. The blend of history, culture, and the vibrant energy of Mumbai makes the Gateway of India a must-visit destination, offering a memorable and enriching experience for any traveller.

Really interesting place to visit in Mumbai. Starter point for a boat journey to the Elephanta caves and great view of the sunrise and sunset near the port. Lots of good bars and restaurants nearby. Crowded in the afternoon and in the evening but very picturesque. Place everybody should stop by beeing in Mumbai.

Definitely worth popping down if in Mumbai. Great view of the Taj Hotel too. Enter from the north side and ignore the touts as no ticket required. There is a security barrier, so quicker if you don't have bags. Lots of touts inside, but they took no for an answer.

It's a lovely place to visit as a tourist. The pictures come out good. Beware of weekend crowds and take care of your belongings... The best way to visit this place on weekends is via taxi or train or bus because there's a huge problem with parking....

  • 5/5 Akash V. 2 months ago on Google New
Every time I wander over to the Gateway of India, it feels like I'm walking straight into history, but with a lively twist. It's a chill place where you can really feel the vibe of Mumbai, with everyone taking selfies and the sea breeze kicking in. I love grabbing a snack, leaning back, and just watching the sea and the crowd do their thing. It's more than just a big old arch; it's where all the Mumbai action starts!

  • 3/5 Harsha R. 2 months ago on Google New
Any day anytime this place is bustling with crowd. It is best to stay behind the fence and enjoy the monument rather than venture inside unless either there is no crowd or you are historical enthusiast. Late nights and evenings on no holiday days would be best time to visit this.

  • 4/5 Debashis B. 2 months ago on Google New
Land mark for Mumbai. Anybody visiting Mumbai should visit this place. From here one can go to Elephanta caves by regular boats. Crowded during holidays and weekends. Public convenience is insufficient to handle huge numbers of visitors and that too from all sections of society.

We visited on Sunday morning at around 8 O'clock and it wasn't crowded during the early hours but as the time went by it got super crowded by 1 O'clock. Also there are many photographers available if you want to have one, they charge ₹50/- for per photo (single copy). There are pay & park areas available charging ₹100 per hour.
