Had a wonderful trip to Fiji in November including a stay at Beqa Lagoon Resort and Volivoli Resort where the Diving was excellent. I arranged for a 3 day photography workshop with Alison which included underwater photography advice, diving together, and follow up photo reviews and editing sessions after the dives. The shark diving at Beqa and soft corals at Bligh Water and Rainbow reef were amazing. Would thoroughly recommend booking a trip with Alison as she has a wealth of knowledge of the area and of the diving, the resorts and dive sites. I had new underwater photography equipment and Alison’s advice and assistance was invaluable in setting this up and tweaking the positioning of the strobes. She is very personable and attentive and on a shore dive was very good at spotting macro subjects. She has fantastic knowledge of Fiji and I would recommend getting in touch with her if you are considering a diving holiday in Fiji.

Like any good good book, Alison Smith’s “Blue Bubbles, Underwater Fiji”, can be enjoyed on many levels. Not only is it an exquisite coffee table book showcasing Alison’s skill as an underwater photographer in capturing the alluring images of our Fijian seascape, but it is also an unpretentious scientific commentary on the flora and fauna of our subaqueous world. It’s a joy to pick the book up at random intervals and briefly scan the photos and text. While it is equally enjoyable to consume and digest large chunks of the book at a time. While divers may have an intense interest in the book for both pleasure and as an informal underwater fish, substrate and “critter”, the book is as equally enjoyable for snorkellers and land lubbers alike. Alison’s photographic composition using light, angles, a range of lenses and her knowledge of camera settings see her capture the very best images of a wide range of the delights of our pacific aquatic paradise. Highly recommended for all lovers of the sea, stunning photography and interesting facts. Allyson literally “wrote the book” on diving in Fiji. Her Blue Bubbles book Is both encyclopedic and beautiful. If you want to find the best dive sites in Fiji and want to understand what it is you are seeing (and maybe photographing) then dive with her. Plus, she’s fun. I live in Fiji, and am regularly in the water, looking at the beautiful fish and reefs. Allyson is the best!
