Mad cat is an experience like no other. The staff are incredible, and anyone that has a bad experience here has to be lying! Not only is the facility nice, but the owner and staff make a strong effort to build a community amongst the people staying in the hostel. While I know the staff are there to serve you, it never feels like they are there just to service you. I will forever remember Eric and Yoshi taking us to karaoke and what a blast that was. The owner, Rieko, is also the most dedicated and kind soul out there who will make your stay 100% worth it. If I had the choice to stay at a Ritz Carlton for free or Mad Cat, I would always choose Mad Cat!!

I’m confident this is the best hostel in Osaka. It’s clean, staff are amazing, cats are friendly. It feels like a second home.

The best hostel I've been in my life! The owner and the staff are very loving, very attentive to everything, I felt at home !!! The two cats are beautiful and lead their normal lives, the room is spacious and clean, the bathroom and common areas are perfect! It has a magnificent bar to socialize with people, they welcomed me with a welcome drink, they advised me on many activities in Osaka, I would honestly return a thousand times to this hostel !!!! Its owner is really adorable !!! Thanks 🖤🇦🇷😸🇯🇵

This is where to stay if you want to feel like a local in Osaka! Mix with locals in the small bar out front drinking international beers, or chill in the back trying to win the affection of the cats!. The hosts were very friendly, interesting and gave excellent recommendations. Even though we only had a short time in Osaka it was amazing! It was clean, well equipped small hostel (washing machine, drying area, kitchen, TV, lounge area, heating / cooling), there was a little road noise but noting that kept us awake, and the bar gave us no noise trouble at all. We will definitely stay here again!

One of our favorite hostels we've stayed at! Clean, convenient location, and full of friendly people, especially the owner Reiko :) She gave us recommendations and became a good friend even in our short stay there. Not to mention the 2 handsome cats, Maru chan and Kogo chan. Can't wait to return!

Mad Cat is not only a great place to stay but the hosts are absolutely amazing! We came for the World Cup and needed tickets and despite only staying for 1 night, they spent a week searching for tickets for us. Over and above. The hostel is also brilliant, there’s a great atmosphere and the beds are very comfortable. Definitely the best place we have stayed so far on our trip. Thank you Mad Cat!

Mad Cat Hostel Osaka & Mad Beach Bar is a hidden oasis inside of Osaka. The two owners, Rieko and Toshi, are wonderful, and incredibly hospitable. They have lots of experience working in hostels all over the world, and it shows. The hostel is incredibly clean, showers are large, and the rooms have a great sense of privacy. Even though there were many people staying during my time there, it never felt cramped. They also have a private room if that's more you're thing. The atmosphere is safe and cozy, and it honestly felt like it was a home, where the people there were all friends and family. For foreigners, Toshi and Rieko speak prefect English, and a bit of Spanish. Credit cards are taken, and there are lots of booklets available inside that lead to day excursions, or just simple trips around town. Mad Cat is very conveniently located by a bus stop and in-between two major subway stations. You're close to three convenience stores, across from a lovely gyoza place, and they have a bar on site, the Mad Beach! If you can, try the Jazzberry fruit beer, or the aptly named "Wednesday's cat." If you're not into beer, Toshi makes a mean chuhai. If you love cats, the whole place is filled with charming cat memorabilia, and two adorable cats who are a bit shy. Though you'll hear them chatting in the morning when they're hungry for breakfast. All in all, Mad Cat Hostel Osaka & Mad Beach is a phenomenal place for anyone looking to stay in Osaka. I have stayed in Osaka many times, and it is by far the most delightful and memorable experience I have had there.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights right after they opened. The private room was simple and comfortable. The bathrooms were very clean! The owners were both friendly and accommodating. I would recommend to any traveler going to Osaka.

Come for the cats and stay for the people (and still the cats)! Rieko and her cats Maru and Kogo were excellent hosts, and the other staff members were super friendly and helpful as well. The rooms and showers were really clean and newly renovated, and the hostel has a nice hominess to it. There are some really great restaurants in the area, and you also get a complimentary “welcome drink” each night at their bar. Mad Cat is the ideal hostel if you’re looking to connect with other travelers. It was great to meet the other people and go out for dinner, drinks, and karaoke. My partner and I had a really nice stay and would definitely come back again — some of the best memories we made in Osaka were because we stayed at Mad Cat.😻

Mad Cat is one of my favorite hostels I've stayed at in all of my travels! I chose it for the cats and the social atmosphere and was not disappointed. Even during a typhoon, it was a lovely time with other travelers. Rieko and Yoshi do a wonderful job keeping the hostel pristine and creating a community vibe for everyone. As a backpacker herself, Rieko understands what travelers value most and set up the hostel beautifully --- super comfy beds, clean and well-stocked showers, nice craft beer at the bar, and a chill communal space. Location was cool, easy to walk to a main shopping area and transportation and convenience stores right out the door. Definitely can't forget the lovely cats, Kogo and Maru-Chan, missing them already. Will 100% be back next time I'm in Osaka.

DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS PLACE! Not exaggerating - this is the best hostel I’ve stayed at in my life. I can’t recommend it enough. I would give it 100 stars if I could. So many hostels are just a check-in, check out ordeal. Not Mad Cat! Rieko and Yoshi are so friendly and make every effort to encourage socializing in the hostel. Every other guest I met was incredible. Overall, such warm vibes and good times that I’ll remember forever. Plus, the mattresses are comfy, the place is super clean, and you get a free drink every night! The local station is a 3 minute walk and the surrounding restaurants are delicious! You can’t beat this place!!!!

Absolutely fantastic hostel with extremely friendly staff and wonderful cats. Couldn’t recommend this place more to someone who’s looking for a laid back and relaxed stay that won’t break the bank. Reiko was amazing, very hospitable and was eager to offer up suggestions for the area. We felt at home, and this was a nice shakeup to our hotel stays. Clean and well kept place with good location to nearby Osaka food specials. The bar was also great. Relatively busy on weekends and can get quite noisy, but that’s nothing to be upset about. Thank you for letting us stay with you.

Staying at Mad Cat was a delight! Reiko and Toshi are amazing hosts and make their guests feel right at home. The hostel is beautiful, clean and cozy. It is close to public transit as well as convenience stores and there are tasty foreigner friendly bars nearby.

Stayed in a few hostels in Osaka, as there wasn’t much availability during my stay, Mad Cat is without doubt the best. 10/10 combo between chill vibes in common room and drinking vibes in the bar, both are amazing as are all the staff and the cats. So hospitable, like staying a friends house but also not overbearing. 🙌🏼

Highlight of my stay in Japan, so good I ended up returning for another night ! Lovely homely atmosphere, staff friendly and great to have conversations with, the 2 cats are very cute 🥰, other guests friendly. All facilities are clean and well equipped. Shared kitchen, comfy beds, decorated nicely. Great array of suggestions to attractions in the local area. Bar is very reasonably priced with a vast array of beers and some international favourites. 10/10 cannot fault anything. Will be returning when I come back to japan eventually. Ty again :) <3

This accommodation was the first accommodation of my friend and I's first trip to Japan. The house feels like home. There is a lovely older sister waiting for us every day. But we still really want to travel. We travel from dawn to dusk🤭🤭 Our room was very clean. There is no musty smell at all. There is a little staff Maru&Kogo waiting for us in the living room every day. Thank you very much for the warm welcome and care. I hope you guys are fine. See you again. Traveling will be very easy. Because the bus stop is in front of the house. Family Mart is right next to our house. Damn it, I'm not starving.😋😋

This hostel was honestly one of the best I’ve ever stayed at. The beds were comfy, everything was really clean, and most of all, Rieko and Yoshi were such incredible hosts. They made us feel very welcome and had great recommendations for different places in Osaka! The cats were also amazingly behaved as well and very friendly.

Been in many hostels around the globe and only a few remain special.. now mad cat hostel is one of them! Being a hostel owner myself (mama backpackers hostel) I could relate in many ways to this hostel and its owner Rieko 😍 Great job great vibe, small bar with a great selection of beers and specially the greatest atmosphere you could ask for! Obviously I recommend this place 😄 but I guess that goes without saying ✌🏽🙏🏽🇯🇵🌸

One of the best hostels I stayed at in Japan! :) The cats are absolutely lovely and everything is cat themed, which is so cute. The vibe is very social and cozy. The hostel is clean and they serve great craft beer at the bar. You get a welcome drink! The owner and staff also also so nice. Subway station is accessible within 10-15 min walk.

We started our trip in Japan at Mad Cat and it couldn’t have been any better! Immediately it felt like home, the owner Rieko will make you feel as if you are staying with lifelong friends. You might book/go here for the cats Kogo & Maru, but you will not want to leave because of the warm and friendly vibes and conversation. Honestly one of the best places to stay! Thank you Rieko, Eric and Yoshi for making our trip so good right from the start. :)

This place has a magical area around it thanks to the incredible owner. The facility has a very familiar and warm atmosphere and is equipped with all the necessary services. However, the location is a bit far from the main attractions and the nearest metro is a 12-minute walk away.

The best hostel I have ever been to. Super chill vibes and very clean. It truly feels like a home. I absolutely love the cat theme they got going on.

One of the cosiest and warmest hostel environments I have ever visited! With multiple local attractions and a train station nearby, it's the perfect place to make new friends while exploring Osaka. The owner and staff are phenomenal, as are their two feline companions. If you are a lover of cats, this place is a must-book ☺️

Lovely place to stay close to all the main tourist attractions. The space is clean and comfortable, with friendly people and an added bonus of two adorable cats. The staff are very knowledgable about Osaka and shared some great recommendations for food, beer and things to do in the area!!

wonderful place to stay in osaka especially if you love cats as much as rieko does!! rieko and staff are all very kind and will make you feel like you’ve been friends forever. kogo and maru are very sweet little dudes as well and they add to the homey atmosphere of mad cat. the beds are clean, comfy and spacious. the lock boxes at the top of the bed are very spacious as well and very convenient! they do provide locks but i brought my own. i never felt unsafe when leaving i my box unlocked though. mad cat is in a convenient area too! not very far from showa-cho station as well as cafes and izakayas! biiiig fan of all the cat decor also haha

Great atmosphere and good selection of drinks. I came to the bar with my friends and enjoy a craftbeer. There're a lot of foreign beers, and not the same mexican beer of always (I'm talking to you you Corona beer) .... instead Modelo negra beer , I love it!!! The owners are so friendly and kind! They speak English and a little bit of Spanish , we had a good chat. If you come to Osaka I totally recommend you have a drink here.
