I recently had the misfortune of staying at the Debre Damo Hotel during an unexpected layover in Addis Ababa, thanks to Ethiopian Airlines completely botching our flight schedule. Let me start by saying that both the airline and the hotel deserve a solid zero rating. From the moment we arrived, the staff at the hotel were incredibly rude and unwelcoming, which was the last thing we needed after our already frustrating travel experience. It felt like we were an inconvenience to them rather than valued guests. To top it off, the hotel was under construction, with floors that had literal holes in them. It looked like we had been booked into a time capsule from the 1960s—faded decor and outdated amenities everywhere. And don’t even get me started on the food! It was absolutely horrific. We were treated like dogs and fed like them too. The meals were inedible, and I honestly couldn't tell what half of it was supposed to be. In hindsight, we thought we were saving money by choosing Ethiopian Airlines and their associated hotel, but it was a huge mistake. I would strongly recommend avoiding both the Debre Damo Hotel and Ethiopian Airlines at all costs. Save your money and your sanity—choose another airline and accommodation if you value your travel experience.
The service is not that professional, if you love meat, you might starve at this hotel. I don’t know much about other rooms but in mine, the WiFi signal was not arriving, there was no air conditioner neither.
Transit hotel. The staff does their best to help with what they have. No traditional Ethiopian coffee which was a bummer. The room key didn’t work they changed the room.
It took 55 minutes to prepare a chicken wrap, I almost wanted to cancel the order, because three different friends did not want to meet me at the hotel, even for a drink. They all said that service is really bad. Told me to eat up and will pick me up when I am done. The food was not bad, place is clean. I have asked to speak to the manager, two staff members apologised. Hope they will improve the service and find out why there is an issue.
The hotel was generally decent, good service when checking in and it seemed quite clean. The room I got was a decent size, the bed comfortable enough. However, the bathroom had water on the floor and I could hear a constant drip but was unable to identify where it was coming from. As I was only staying for one night I did not bother having someone come and look into it since it would interrupt the time I had to rest. It might have helped if there was a mat on the floor in the bathroom. Also, the kettle in the room was not working. The food in the restaurant was not great, but it was not terrible either. The wait staff however could not be bothered. I had to ask for napkins and a glass and even then it was a wait. I ended up with paper tissues even when there were cloth napkins clearly available that I could see, and he grabbed a random glass from a tray by the water dispenser after he forgot to bring it with the napkins. Since I was there on a layover catered for by the airline, I do wonder if there is a difference in what they provide for such guests and those on holiday or staying for longer. However, they should note that whoever stays at the hotel for whatever reason will share their experience with others, and if they were considering coming back for a longer stay they would not if the standard of the amenities and services are below expectations or if a disparity is observed.
Stay through Ethiopian airlines, really first big question how Ethiopian airlines will make collaboration with that type of hotels, where services is not at par, cleaning is really very big issue, bed is totally out of order and bedsheet and duvet are not clean, i feel after i sleep, some insects are bite and my skin have allergies due to this. Food is also not very good at par. Only best thing is this hotel WIFI speed.
3 star type hotel. Generally used for transit passengers in ADD. About 20-25 minutes drive from Bole airport. Hotel staff are very well-behaved. The rooms are good, foods are good too but limited items in buffet. You can order by yourself too. Ground floor has a bar and coffee shop. You must try Ethiopian style coffee for $1. Very strong in flavor. However it's not a very posh area or much to see. Very crowded outside and lots of construction going on. I went to a walk outside and the staffs repeatedly warned me not to showoff valuable items such as mobile, camera, etc. as it's a very local area. You can walk, but don't show off your valuables. It's worth a walk to see the regular life of the Ethiopian people and their local steel foods. Take 5-10$ exchanged money with you to try some local food and coffee. IMPORTANT NOTES: Try not to travel to or from the hotel to airport by local cabs. Only use hotel transportations which usually wait outside the airport. Hotel name will be written outside the car. There is a chance that Local cabs can take you somewhere else and rob you, because you don't know anything there. Be careful.
Visit at this hotel for in transit layover.. the shuttle service was fine and the check in was quick but the rooms were really dirty and the sheets were torn... The washrooms were not clean enough ... The food was cold and had bad options with half cooked food.. it was all arranged by ethopian airlines, i would not recommend staying at this place at all... The location was about 20 minutes from the airport.. the staff was friendly...
