What an amazing experience this place is! The vast size of this battlefield is awe inspiring. Over 70,000 men lost their lives battling over a 24 acre piece of land, to either keep or do away with slavery. To learn and to actually be able to visualize how far a canon ball weighing 8 pounds could be launched a mile away with a canon two hundred years ago is truly incredible. The museum displays of the uniforms, handguns, rifles and various artifacts is extensive. I enjoyed the bus tour with the tour guide. It was interesting and fun to hear the narrative of the battle and learn about the little to unknown facts about the battle. In order to experience the entire Gettysburg site, it is easily a two day trip. For convenience, there is a small cafeteria in the main building. The new museum building was.built in 2008 and is very clean and modern. There is a good sized souvenir shop in the main building as well. There are also numerous nearby hotels, souvenir shops and restaurants in the City of Gettysburg. For the history buff, this is a must see place to visit.

What a fabulous place. This is one of the cleanest and nicest places we have visited. The respect people have for this is amazing. The film, cyclamen and museum are wonderful and very moving. The staff is fantastic. We loved it! The auto tour was also great for us. We could take our time.

I visited on a Thursday morning. We were on our way home so had limited time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We unfortunately did not have the time to go thru the museum. What I read indicates you need 4 hours. There is one hall that you can view for free. It consists of a lot of items that have been found on the battleground. It was very interesting. They have a map of the battleground park available however it is not very accurate. Google was very helpful finding the memorials we wanted to see. We look forward to coming back and spending more time. The park is well maintained and well labeled. There are a lot of options for how you tour the park. Self-guided, with a group and there are options for private guides. The heritage guides even dress up. You can use guides from the park itself and there are lots of companies that offer guides as well.

This is a must place to visit when you are in Gettysburg. Great place to learn about our history. Highly recommend this place for any age. They have a junior ranger program for kids. You would need a minumum of 3-4 hrs just for the museum alone. Very educational. Interesting facts and exhibits. Everyone was friendly and accomodating. They have a gift shop too. Overall a great experience.

What an incredible place. I didn't have enough time to truly explore the entirety of it, as it is so incredibly vast. The bus tour was well worth the money, and comes with a very nice driver and a knowledgeable and friendly guide. Highly recommend that everyone should go, if possible, take a few days to really take it all in. I plan to return for a few days to hike it.

Always love Gettysburg. Haven’t been here in a number if years. The visitor’s center is great and the overview movie very informative. Had a wonderful guide for our students. Very knowledgeable and gave plenty of information. So much to see and learn.

A sobering glimpse into the tumultuous past of my beloved nation. Having ancestors on both sides of the divide gives me pause to reflect at just how fortunate I really am. I cannot recommend visiting the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center enough! You must go! While there the Film and the Cyclorama are a must see. Whether you opt for a guided or self-guided tour of the battlefield, you’re sure to grow in your appreciation for the magnitude of this great Civil War Battle.

We took the auto tour and loved it!! It took us about 2 hours and it is GPS driven. Very informative and gives you plenty of opportunity to get out and take pictures or get a closer look. The tour made us realize that we want to come back to the area and spend more time here. There are so many different things to do and see we can't wait to return!

if you're any kind of history nerd, than this is the place to go!! There's so much to see and learn about, and even if you're not the biggest history nerd, the sights are still interesting to see. Downtown Gettysburg also has neat places to see if you don't want to spend the entire day exploring battlefields. Definitely worth a trip though!

I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to visit this national park. I finally visited in July 1st and truly enjoyed the rich history. I loved the auto tour and found it to be interesting and informative. After the museum, I spent some time downtown. It’s was fun and lively! I enjoyed walking around and going in and out of the different shops.

Gettysburg National Military Park- AMAZING! I am a lover of American history and have visited many historical sights, memorials, and battlefields, Gettysburg is one of the best I have seen. The number of monuments, markers, and displays not only in the museum but all around the battlefield is just incredible. From the video in the visitor's center/ museum to the driving path, there is so much to see and learn. We downloaded the National Parks app which has a link to a free audio-guided tour. Loved it! I suggest- seeing the video, seeing the museum, driving the tour with the audio guide, and seeing the Gettysburg cemetery. See the spot where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address.

This was our first time visiting and we had a wonderful experience. We enjoyed walking the grounds the first day and taking the trail to the cemetary. The second day, we went on the 2 hour bus tour of the battle grounds. I highly recommend the tour. Eric, our guide/historian, was wonderful and very knowledgeable. After the tour we went to the downtown area where we visited some great shops and had a delicious lunch and Sweney Tavern. Entrance to the visitor center is free. Tickets are required to go to the museum and for the bus tour.

Amazing museum with multiple ways to appreciate how pivotal, and severe, the battle of Gettysburg was. I highly recommend coding the whole shebang, as there's a movie, the cyclorama, and the museum to enjoy. My girlfriend was able to use her military id for a good discount, and we enjoyed it all. The museum has many artifacts and interactive displays to provide true detail into the battle by regiment!

Amazing history and great park. Bookstore was huge and the self guided car tour was fantastic. This is a must see for every American and travelers the same. Solidify our history in our hearts and learn what it took to be what we are today! The park center is new and very spacious with plenty to see. Check out the presentation and learn about the way at Gettysburg. Large bookstore with tons of history and lots for the kids as well. Don’t forget your passport stamps.

The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center is an impressive building that should be visited by anyone touring Gettysburg. The historical treasures are beautifully presented, and the theatrical and cyclorama presentations are impactful. A wealth of history within a beautiful space. Highly recommended.

It's an amazing site full of history and education. You can go on a tour or explore around like me and my family did. The one thing I'd wish was improved is that there should be more street signage. I'd sometimes get lost even with GPS and the map they gave us due to us debating what street we were on. Otherwise, excellent place!

So beautiful. Well preserved. It feels alive with all the canons and monuments. Fences look like they have always been here. A must see if you are a fan of history. Get a map and follow the self guided tour. You will not be disappointed.

Incredible history and experience at the museum, visitor center, and auto tour of the battlefield. My fiancé and I didn't get to finish the auto tour of the 24-mile battlefield due to a time constraint after touring the museum (watched the movie and did the cyclograph experience before the museum), but will return from NC to complete the tour and experience other parts of Gettysburg, preferably in warmer weather. Very helpful staff as well. Bring your National Park passport for up to 3 stamps here.

The best place to understand the history of United States 🇺🇸. Is the only and unique opportunity to feel, learn and see the artifacts of the Civil War. This place is outstanding. You can link the experience with other Histories places in PA and follow up the past, the present and the future. The museum has one of the biggest oil painting in the world which describes the reality of the battlefield of Gettysburg vs General Lee. If you willing to learn our freedom and why was important the emancipation, go and visit this area. Highly recommend: schedule a private tour for 3 hours and let the professional guide diving you to the past of the history. Unforgettable experience. Top 10 places to visit in PA. Stay in a local hotel. You will need plenty of time to walk, read and enjoy the activities.

We all learn about the Battle at Gettysburg but being here, standing where they stood... is something else. Didnt do the actual museum tour this time around, wanted to take advantage of the nice weather. Outside of the museum exhibits are still really cool displays of guns, ammo, uniforms. Ended up walking a good portion of the auto tour (highly recommend driving or walking).

Loved the whole experience. The entire property is pristine, including restrooms. All staff is polite. Lots of information delivered in fun imaginative ways. Our bus tour guide was very friendly and a walking Gettysburg encyclopedia. Note: bring your own water, or water bottle for the fountain. The cafe is overpriced, they don't have prices on the items, and the girl behind the counter responded "I don't really know..." when I asked for a price, then went back to ignoring me 😐 😶.

My significant other and I went here on vacation and it was wonderful. They have packages that are affordable, including a bus tour, and access to the museum. The park rangers do a lot of informative activities as well that are free. You could easily spend an entire day here between the tours (they have a self guided car version, an informative bus tour), the museum, and the additional activities run by the museum and parks department. The gift shop is beautiful, and reasonable as well. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and informative about what to take advantage of. I would visit here again if given the opportunity.

Incredible experience! The tour ticket suggest spending 2 hrs for the museum, film and cyclorama. If you want to do the museum in depth you'll need 3 hrs for those activities. Additionally I also did the 2 hour bus tour- absolutely amazing! The only downside is that you don't get to stop at points that are of personal interest. You do exit the bus 4 or 5 times to view things up close. The other tour options are either a self-guided audio auto guide (upside: make as many stops as you want. Downside: no one to pose your questions to), or hiring a guide yourself. This is the best of both worlds but is more expensive.

Nice exhibits and visitor center. They also have a large gift store indoor. From here you can get maps to do your own self guided driving tour which covers quite a distance but is definitely worth it! Plenty of parking available and the park rangers /staff members were very helpful even as I only had 1 hour to do the tour

How do you put a "star rating" on a place of history so devastating that it split families? Split our Country. Killed so many Americans. Destroyed so many peoples' lives. How do you "rate" that? The Park is impressive...both in size...and in the care it receives. The monuments from each State...the calvary...the infantry. The cannons on every rise of land. The "visualization" of the battles you READ about in history class...but in the Park...you FEEL them! You are on sacred ground. So many lives lost. So many families destroyed. So many soldiers, farmers, "boys next door", lawyers, doctors, shop keepers...all fighting for a cause THEY believed in. You can FEEL it. The Cyclotron is exceptional! The Battle of Gettysburg is all around you! Amazing! Don't skip the movie, the Cyclotron and the Museum. The experience is well worth whatever it costs. Don't miss those opportunities. The Park is open sunrise to sunset. And the Park is free of charge. Give yourself at least 6 hours to visit the Park. There's so much more to experience than you'll ever get in a book.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed the experience we had here. We walked the trail that led us to the battlefield. On our way back, my girlfriend had an experience. She thought someone was running up behind her. It gave her a fright, but I thought it was funny (Yes, mean boyfriend). Even though the battlefield was a place of death, the scenery was beautiful. Will be back.

My husband and I loved visiting the Museum and the Cyclorama. We also did the car tour but ran out of time. We would love to come back and spend more time studying each location along the car tour. Being out at the battlefields was a very emotional time for my husband and I both after watching the video and reading up on the battles prior. It was a lot to wrap your mind around, remembering everything that had happened on those grounds. We have nothing but good to say about the whole area. Thanks for all that has been done to reserve and honor this area.

Definitely worth the trip. There is a lot of walking so be prepared. It was incredible to be on such historical ground. It truly felt sacred at points. The gift shop and museum are great, with something for every budget. Highly recommend.

What an experience!! SO MUCH history. Take a day and experience this historical site. There are a few ways to tour the battlefields. We opted to pay for the 2 hour bus tour. Had a very knowledgeable tour guide. (You can opt for a self guided tour).

One of the most hallowed grounds in the United States. Gettysburg National Military Battlefield and Park is extremely moving. As you pull up to the visitors center you're immersed in 19th century. There might be a tent outside with musicians playing or soldiers at camp. Inside the visitors center there's a bookstore and plenty of information help if needed. No backpacks inside the facilities. There have packages to see the film, museum abs cylcorama. <-Do this! If you're an active duty I believe it's free, veterans and first responders receive $1.00 ticket. The film is moving as it recounts the epic 3 day battle and the Cyclorama (which is longer than a football field and taller than 40 feet) envelops you and brings you in the center of all the action in July 1863. You can also tour the Eisenhower house of the former President and General (but that's a separate tour). We opted to download the NPS app and drive our car around the battlefield. The stops are posted along with marker that is in red with a black star. There's too many things I could write here but I believe every American, no matter if you live in the North or South, should come to this place of honor and take it all in. Embrace the death that surrounds this park because you will feel completely moved by history. The park is closed from sunrise to sunset. It's pitch black at night which makes it even more eerie as you drive past on your way into town. The last stop is the burial grounds for the men that died that day. That's equally as moving because you can see where President Lincoln stood and delivered his Gettysburg Address. As you read the 270 words, you know that while Lincoln wasn't the keynote speaker that day, his speech had a deeper impact. Not just upon the people there, but the world.

Took solo trip. Excellent museum and worth the admission. The monuments were really interesting to look. Well laid out auto tour. This park would have been a beautiful stand-alone park if Americas biggest Civil War battle never took place here.

During our journey, we had the opportunity to visit the Gettysburg Battlefield, a significant historical site that was conveniently located along our route. As the location of the deadliest battle in the Civil War, Gettysburg offers a wealth of knowledge about this somber period in American history. Our visit was both educational and emotionally impactful. The battlefield serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and the sacrifices made by those who fought in it. The experience provided us with a deeper understanding of the events that took place here and their lasting impact on our nation. In conclusion, a visit to the Gettysburg Battlefield is a profound experience that offers valuable insights into a critical chapter of American history. It is a destination that we would highly recommend to others for its educational value and emotional resonance.

A really awesome place to visit and learn about the history of the battle of Gettysburg. We spent two days exploring the battlefield, but definitely want to return when devils den and little round top are open. We downloaded a digital tour, which was great that we could drive at our own pace and stop as we pleased. A great experience!

Went on a Wednesday and did a self guided tour as well as the museum. $12 for student tickets and a very detailed, long, informative museum. Great for the price we payed and we spent about 2 hours in it as well as another hour walking around. Can get busy with school trips. Recommend walking shoes and enough time for all events.

I really enjoyed the walk through History. We used the national park app and we were able to enjoy the story being told to us at each one of the stops. The Monuments were beautiful and the park was well taken care of.

Amazing history! You really get a feel for the place where 51,000 lost their lives over a three day time period. I started to whistle while we walked, and then stopped as this is hallowed ground. Beautiful area.

I would give it a 5 star but the cost to get in makes in inaccessible to many people. (Just over $20 as of Nov. 2023). The movie was a great summary of what led to the battle at Gettysburg and touched on the aftermath. It was better than I had expected. The cyclorama was impressive when you learn that it is an actual oil painting from the turn of the century - and moved to Gettysburg in 1913. It went through a restoration and if you are a fan of history or art, this is a must see.
