Nice place to get a drink or a really good meal off the beaten path in Bergen. Not a crowded as you'll find most places on the town centre. People who work there very friendly. If you're touring it's a very manageable walk. Highly recommended. Outdoor and indoor dining with a bar.

Gastronomy delight. You discovered so much flavour and different taste in every plate. We have been in Norway a few days now and have not been looking forward to any meals because it’s just not good and expensive. But this saves Norway. Friendly staff. We asked about how some of the dishes were cooked. Do reserve ahead of time especially in summer. We have to come back later due to full house and we don’t have a reservation.

Restaurant for foodies. Only serves menus with a wine pairing option available. Barren interior. Superb service with very knowledgeable waiters. If you talk back after their elaborate description of the dishes, it shows they not just recite but know. But the kitchen lags on the service level and disappoints. Of the 4-course (smallest) menu, the scallops were good, the catch of the day was bland, the chicken dish was over-composed with flavours while the chicken itself was too salty, and the oats dessert was forgettable. The coffee (only fresh-made filter) was horrible. If can compose own menu, I'd come back. As it is, it doesn't live up to its foodie pretensions.

An excellent dining experience in Bergen, off the beaten path but walking distance to more touristic area..Creative tasting menu with locally sourced Norwegian ingredients. We opted for the 6 course menu but with extras it was actually 8. We didn’t do the wine pairing but our server selected a few different options throughout the meal that were perfect. The atmosphere is low key, comfortable and casual. It allows you to focus on the beautifully crafted food. From local farms and purveyors the offerings highlight the unique flavors and quality ingredients of the Norwegian coast. The food stands up against some of the Michelin restaurants we’ve experienced. Reservations highly recommended. We saw at least a dozen people turned away because they hadn’t booked in advance and the restaurant was full.

Michelin-star quality food. We ate there on a quiet Tuesday; our very knowledgeable server had the time (and interest) to indulge us in a detailed discussion of food and wine. We had the eight-course tasting menu; wine pairings were faultless. Expensive, but this is cooking of the highest order.

Glad I didn’t listen to the other reviews because this place is excellent - a highlight of our trip in Norway. Inventive and modern yet delicious food with very attentive and patient service. Also loved the cosy ambience. Highly recommended.

Our review is based on a comparison with Lysverket because the price for 8-10 servings is the same. Great service but long waiting times between servings. The young chef does not lack ambition but the execution of the dishes did not meet the ambition level at all. Flavours were often off and techniques often failed. We truly believe that the chef has talent, but the talent will only come through by making more simple food with focus on getting the basics right, and tasting every single dish before it leaves the kitchen.

Delicious lunch in this side bar to the main restaurant. Portions are good and all tasty. Beer and wine excellent. Highly recommend in particular the spring cabbage with tarragon, potatoes yoghurt and feta, and the homemade bread and butter. Not far from the tourist area but v much untouristy.

Place itself is nice with simple design close to minimalist style. Stuff was friendly and I felt welcomed and comfortable there right away. When it comes to the food... well, don't know, it was a bit weird. I've got pork neck and it came with pearl barley cassoulet. Entire thing looked messy and taste was a bit odd.

This was a fantastic experience with very good food, and helpful service. The place is ideal to get in touch with scandinavian cuisine. I would recommend it for local and tourists interested in having a slow but pleasant dinner. It is, definitely one of best restaurants in Bergen. The bone marrow was my favorite aswell with the dessert (white chocolate with nuts and fruits).

Incredible meal, every course was a work of art and absolutely delicious! The bone marrow course especially was unique, beautifully presented, and exceptional! The wait staff were also very professional and accommodating even though I called looking for a table at the last minute. I would recommend Marg and Bein to anyone visiting Bergen!

Marg & Bein was a nice experience, had the 6 course menu consisting of crab cake, hake, chicken liver pate, mushrooms on toast, lamb and then toffee apple. Having a dairy allergy means certain parts of dishes were missed off and I don't know if that meant I missed out on the wow factors of the dishes but the only dish I'd go back for was the mushroom on toast which was made specially as the regular course couldn't become dairy free. Service was lovely with each course being explained in detail and got 2 glasses of wine to cover the 6 courses. Tldr nice but not spectacular

We had a very nice dinner with the 4 course menu today: we also brought our daughter which was no problem (bread + butter were her favourites) - definitely choose the wine pairing as well, what a great selection! Thanks for having us, we’ll be back when returning to Bergen for sure!

What a great experience we had at Marg & Bein. Food was fantastic, every dish we ordered was tasty and delicious. Must try the Ox Cheek and Pork Neck. It's a testament within itself when you're fighting for the food with whom you're dining with. Service was also spectacular. I'm glad we ate at this wonderful restaurant in our 24 hours of Bergen.

Had a good experience. We wanted to try what all the reviewers were raving about. In my opinion, I've tried it and now I can say I have, but I probably wouldn't return. The two guests I was with had the set menu - beat and goat cheese salad/macrole mousse, pork chop over creamed peas and carrot cake. Although they loved every bite, the flavors are just not for my palate. I had the paprika tomato soup and it had everything under the sun in it... herbs, sunflower seeds, croutons, cream and just too much going on. My main course, the ox cheek was probably the best thing I tasted all night (reminded me of grandma's pot roast.) The ox was served with mashed potato (good, but again too many different seasonings dancing around for my preference,) and carrots (yuck!) with crispy kale which was absolutely delicious garnish to the dish. Although the quality of food was superb I must say if you're a simplicity girl like me who likes good clean flavors this may not be for you. There was a lot going on in each dish that I just had a hard time enjoying because it was thrown at you all at once. That on top of the price (be prepared to pay a hefty penny, for 3 people it was close to $180 USD,) I would say it wasn't totally worth it. Enjoyed the experience but probably will not return.

Wonderful meal, started with the mackerel, followed by the beef cheek, and strawberries for desert. We appreciated the use of locale ingredients and straight forward elegant execution of the fair. Service was impeccable. The carrot soup was sublime. The wine choice was special, a natural wine from South Africa that was a recommendation. Excellent choice! Not at all pretentious, but clear and focused, really enjoyed our meal and highly recommend.

The meat is so tenfer a regular spoon will do just fine. It came with a sweet purée and root vegetables. Excellent taste, perfect texture. Had a bottle of Brunello - my favourite wine - with the meal. But they only had the 2014 from an (for me) unknown Brunello supplier. The 2014 year is not good for the Brunello grapes, and it should probably rest for at least another five years anyway. So choose another follower to the food. Marg & Bein has a lot of very nice wines, so a Zinfandel would have been a better choice this time. I will definitely be back!
