Gorgeous place to walk around and see giant tall red wood trees! A really kid/elder friendly park, very walkable. You can easily spend 3 hours here. Worth checking it out! Definitely reserve parking online at least the day before. Also, bring your annual national park pass if you have one, so you can get in for free.

Beautiful national monument with boardwalk paths and dirt hiking trails of various lengths from 1 to 4 hrs and terrain changes. Many opportunities to get right up to redwoods of various sizes and stages of growth. Parking should be reserved ahead to park near park entrance. Good in any season and for all ages and abilities. There is a small cafe serving hot food and drinks as well as a gift shop with many souvenirs options.

Truly a majestic experience walking among all these trees which are hundreds of years old. Muir Woods is very well maintained with clear structured paths for visitors. After exploring, do check out the souvenir shop over there. Things to note: There will be limited or no phone service there so please make relevant precautions before visiting. Fun fact: red wood naturally produces tannin which repels insects, so there is a limited ecosystem there. This will probably be one of the quietest national parks you set foot in.

I know that Sequoias and Redwood Giants are more impressive but the Muir Woods has some special atmosphere about them almost like it was enchanted. Just make sure that you go off the main trail to avoid most of us, two and a half million tourists, who visit this place every year. A nice and easy loop, around 5 kilometres, is Camp Eastwood trail that leads to Canopy View and Fern Creek trails. Aha, and do not come here in the summer! Enjoy.

We came here early in the morning and got to experience the park both when it was nice and sunny and a bit later as it got a little misty. Both ways were very worth seeing, as we got to see some really incredible, majestic sights. The park is very beautiful, and the trails are well maintained. We spent about an hour and a half walking around, just talking everything in. I particularly enjoyed walking through Cathedral Grove and seeing the rays of light from the sun shine through the branches of the redwood trees. It was a very serene experience. I would highly recommend visiting the park for anyone who’s in the area.

A small paradise very close to San Francisco! I highly recommend spending a sunny day visiting Muir woods! The scenery is unique and you will find your self lost in a place where time doesn't feel important anymore. Make sure to explore one of the longest trails in order to better enjoy the scenery. Being able to see these gigantic trees that have been living in this grounds for hundreds of years made me feel in awe of the beauty of our planet!! Note that it is necessary to book a slot for your car or a spot on the shuttle bus to get to Muir Woods. The parking lot costs $9. We also booked our tickets to enter the park online to avoid waiting times! Just make sure that you have downloaded the booking confirmation in case you don't have internet reception!!! Muir Woods is an amazing place to spend a sunny Sunday in the nature!! Enjoy!

Gorgeous and peaceful place. I went at 8 am. on a weekday and had the place mostly to myself for a little bit. These beautiful and amazing trees are so captivating. Parking reservations are required, and I got the 3rd spot closest to the visitor center. There's an entrance fee for the park itself too, but I used my annual national park pass.

It's a beautiful corner in the middle of the forest. Virgin trees and land. Easy to get there, just follow the signs. It is very important to make a reservation for the parking lot before you get there, there is no phone signal. Otherwise, they won't let you get in, but you have the option to keep driving about 5 miles ahead to find a phone signal. The place is absolutely fantastic and magical. If you want to do a 1 hour hike in the main track, it is just perfect to clear your mind and relax. There is inside also a coffee and gift shop, also restrooms.

I went there with my one-year-old, and it was an amazing experience! The park is super baby-friendly, with trails that are perfect for strollers. I could easily push my little one around without any hassle, which made our visit so much more relaxing.Walking among the giant redwoods was incredible. There's something about being in the presence of such ancient trees that really makes you appreciate the beauty and power of nature. It felt like a spiritual experience, reminding me of the endless cycle of life and the wonders of our world. What's great about Muir Woods is that it's not just about the trees. The whole place is peaceful and a fantastic escape from city life. There's also a lot to learn, with lots of signs and information about the forest and its inhabitants. In short, Muir Woods is a fantastic spot for families, even those with little ones. It's not every day you find a place that's both breathtaking and stroller-friendly. I definitely recommend it to parents looking for a beautiful and easy nature outing.

Has both short and long trails, but I usually spend about 2 hours here. Requires a parking reservation ($9) which I obtained 6 days prior to arrival. National Park Passport cancellations (stamps) can be found at the entrance on the other side of the ticket booth, not at the gift shop. You can find lots of souvenirs, decorative gifts, and T shirts at the gift shop. The gift shop also has a small snack shop where you can order sandwiches, pastries, snacks, and drinks. Tip: sometimes you can find wild animals such as deer in this park.

My favorite natural location around San Francisco. I've been here a few times and each time is just as incredible and inspiring as the last. There are quite a few longer hikes accessible from the main Muir woods visitor center but there's also flat boardwalk trails for people in any shape. It's usually pretty cool in the trees so make sure to bring a jacket. You have to make a reservation to guarantee a parking spot but then the entrance can be covered with an America the Beautiful pass or a fee.

This is one of my favorite places on the planet! The redwoods are stunning! The boardwalk is accessible to all ages and abilities. The hiking is challenging and worth the effort. You must purchase parking and time slot to park before you go. Go early to beat the crowds, get a good parking spot and enjoy the morning peacefulness!

A very pleasant trip. I went there in a scheduled trip with the Gray Line San Francisco organized Muir Woods & Sausalito Tour (can find it in Booking of all places too). It was truly an hour and a half of relax in between bucolic and soothing sounds, of water flowing, leaves dancing and all in all so many beautiful sights. Also, it is very close to San Francisco (much closer than other similar giant sequoia parks). For an optimal visit I'd suggest to go there and stay for over 2 hours as the place is quite huge.

Just mesmerizing view to see Muir woods.. must must visit place. Reserve parking just an optional however better to have one! There's lots of off site parking too if you don't get reserve spot.. just need to walk few more miles... and pretty easy trail.. kids, seniors, handicapped friendly.. nice gifts shops, public restrooms, cafe..saw only one cafe in that location and the food sold out way fast like before 3pm!! Better to pack your own snacks need to pay admission fee, there's discount to kids and senior. Just come and enjoy the view... I enjoyed the redwoods trail.. very beautiful and so much nature... Love coming back with all prepared!

A stunningly beautiful place. Walking to the end of the main trail and back via the hillside trail is a short loop of under 5km/3mi, but takes longer than you expect with frequent stops and a casual pace to admire the scenery. It's easy to spend 2-3 hours here. The walkways and trails are well maintained, and it's relatively peaceful even with many people ignoring the signs asking them to keep the noise down. Make sure you book parking in advance or take the shuttle, especially on busy holiday days.

There is a calm, serene, mystical energy about Muir Woods. Not only is it stunning and lush with greenery but the quiet of the woods and beauty of Mother nature draws you to keep walking and exploring and just gasping in awe at these old green silent giants. The fallen trees are also a beauty themselves and create new corridors for other species. Yes, parking can be a drag but we've gotten lucky the three times to find parking. All that stress about parking is forgotten though, when you start walking along side those ancient Redwoods, listening to water gushing in the streams and creeks. We could stay forever! Even if you go 30mins or so after your alotted time, they will allow you into the parking lot. I've called ahead twice just to let them know I was still coming but I don't think I needed to. There is barely any wildlife here but we go for the redwood and serenity. Even though there might be a crowd sometimes, you are still able to enjoy a lot of areas with quiet. People aren’t really loud there. The gift store is expensive, typical of any park. If you get the annual pass and plan to visit a few times then it is definitely worth it.

This is an amazing place to visit. We took a tour here, which I highly recommend vs. driving yourself. The roads are narrow, winding and high up. Parking appointments are required. Tyke your time, breathe in the fresh crisp smell of redwoods and a clean forest. It was amazing. We wish we would have had more time at the park.

Muir Woods was a highlight of my trip to San Francisco. We went on a Monday morning and it wasn't crowded. Make sure to reserve your parking and be ready for a twisting, hilly drive in. It was very cool to walk among the tall redwoods. We just stayed on the boardwalk/paved trail out and the hillside trail back to accomodate those in our group with knee issues and it was easily walkable for everyone. If it was just me, I could have spent the day hiking the various trails that branch off the main trail. The main trail itself took us about 60-90 to slowly meander through, stopping often to take pictures and admire the enviroment we were in. Make sure to bring a water resistant jacket, even through it wasn't raining, the mist that collected on the trees did fall, keeping things a little wet.

Everything that needs to be said about this incredibly beautiful and peaceful national treasure has been told already. However, we went on a rainy day and our walk was just as magical. We took the shuttle from the fairy which was absolutely the right thing to do. Parking by the larkspur ferry terminal is free on the weekend and it makes getting to the park hassle-free. Since it was raining, there were not too many people in the park. If you are in the Bay area this is an absolute must-see. Even if you don't have a car, you can take the ferry from San Francisco and then it is a short 30-minute shuttle ride to the park. The entrance fee is $15 with the shuttle costing $3.50 round trip.

Beautifully amazing trees. Took an easy hike to the 3rd bridge to take in these amazing trees. Redwood Creek was really flowing because of the rain. Really felt I was alone with nature because the weather kept the number of visitors low that day. Be ready for a very curvy highway to get in and out of the Muir Woods. A definite place to visit if you are in the San Francisco area. So glad I went.

Stunning preserve of the redwoods north of San Francisco. The park is impressive. It's immaculate in its presentation, cleanliness and layout. And you can go "off path" into lengthy routes that are all around the park that are less formal. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. 5 x 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

This is a beautiful landscape embroidered with redwoods. This place is very famous as is very family friendly with wooden pathway laid for comfort. There is also a cafe and souvenir shop for convenience. The hike is not strenuous and offers great views and picture worth spots. Tickets: 15$ per adult. The transportation to this place is a hassle. You have two choices: You book the parking in advance. Or you can take the shuttle from Larkspur Ferry terminal. If you opt for shuttle, the instructions might not be clear for boarding. Just go near Larkspur ferry terminal ticket booking center. That is your boarding area. You can also park in the ferry terminal parking lot for shuttle departure.

Top notch family friendly place. They have trails for all levels which makes it ideal for even people with disabilities. Muir woods have something for everyone. However be sure to get a parking reservation - it costs $9. Price is not a factor but getting a slot is. The entry fees for adults are $15. They are undergoing some renovations to channel the creek that flows - this is needed to maintain the declining salmon population. Hopefully this would revive Muir woods even more. As far as how the place is - the pics speak for themselves.

Muir Woods is one of a kind national monument! You cannot see these beautiful redwood trees outside of California or Oregon!! Some of the tallest tree on earth that are as old as 800 years! The park is very visitor friendly. Reserve parking online is easy to do, you can also reserve shuttle tickets. It’s worth buying the National Park pass if you love the national parks! The park offers flat trails for anyone that finds it hard to walk or needs a wheelchair. There is a visitor center that offers souvenirs and basic food and drinks. You can also pack a lunch and eat at some of their benches or tables. This is a must do for the whole family! If you want to explore up hill there are other easy trips that branch off.

We had 2 days to hike Muir woods. Love this place. If you love the trees and losing yourself hiking then this is the place. I would recommend when you leave to drive by Muir Beach and exit that way. The roads are a lot safer. Just my opinion. Have fun and make reservations.

This is a beautiful path to walk. Not only is it not too long but it's flat the whole time basically, making it very accessible. If you do the entire loop it probably will take you about an hour and a half to get down and back, maybe a little more. Make sure you get parking in advance if you are driving and I'd recommend arriving early. My partner and I arrived at 845 AM and it wasn't too busy but as we left it was packed. Highly recommend.

Had an amazing time with our friends here! The park was absolutely amazing. It’s very hard to explain just how fresh it smells and feels here. The rangers here do an amazing job of keeping the park nice and clean. The paths were absolutely amazing here and made it so easy to walk. The cafe has some really good chocolate chip cookies I’d recommend! The gift shop also has a lot of merchandise to choose from!

I loved this place. As other reviewers have mentioned, the redwoods are absolutely breathtaking. The rangers were very friendly and informative. The hikes were absolutely gorgeous. I have to say my favorite part was seeing the fingerlets (baby coho salmon) in the creek. When I visited, they were renovated parts of the park so be aware of that. Parking requires a reservation, something we didn’t know before we arrived (and there’s no service, especially if you use t mobile). The roads to the woods are windy and scenic so definitely take your time. I recommend going in the evening.

This place makes you fell like you are on another planet. Absolutely amazing. I wasn’t expecting something like this in the middle of the mountains. Drive to this place is also very scenic. We reached around 7:10 and they closed at 8. The gentleman in the from was kind enough and informed us that the loop takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour only. Plenty of parking options but make sure to take all the valuables with you. Entry fee was $15/person. The fee is 100% worth it. It was very calm and the air was so clean. It is hard to describe this place in words.

Enchanting Redwood Haven Muir Woods is an absolute gem nestled just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. The towering redwoods create a magical atmosphere that transports you into a different world. The trails are well-maintained and offer a variety of options for different fitness levels. Walking amidst these ancient giants is awe-inspiring, making it a perfect escape into nature. The scent of the redwoods and the peaceful ambiance are therapeutic, providing a welcome break from city life. The visitor center is informative, providing insights into the rich history of the area and the importance of preserving these magnificent trees. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall positive experience. Parking can be a bit tricky, especially during peak times, so it's advisable to arrive early or use the shuttle service. The nominal entrance fee is well worth the experience, and the park's commitment to conservation is commendable. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a photographer, or simply looking for a serene getaway, Muir Woods is a must-visit destination. It's a true testament to the beauty and grandeur of nature, leaving you with memories that will last a lifetime.

If you’re in the Bay Area or close to Muir Woods (or are a tourist just wanting to visit), it’s a must go. It’s a National Monument dedicated to F. D. Roosevelt, and it is one of the 15 golden gate national parks. Overall, it’s one of the best nature spots I’ve seen. The redwoods and the natural habitat are very well preserved, and the hike is really amazing. In a world filled with deforestation, I’m grateful to have experienced this. On certain days after 5pm it’s free to enter too.

  • 5/5 Evelyn R. 4 months ago on Google
It was beautiful and well kept. I love that it's stroller friendly, that was everything for me and my little family! There are other hikes more challenging that are obviously not stroller friendly, but overall it was well worth the trip. You have to pay for parking in advance and select a 30 min window for arrival which makes the whole thing work out super smoothly. Make sure to save the QR code in advance because reception is not the best once you are there.

It is similar to Big Basin redwood park but it is bigger and the trail is along the creek, which is more fun. The main trail is easy and short, and is wheelchair friendly. You must reserve your parking in advance if you plan to drive. You also need to buy tickets to get in as National Park. The place is well maintained. There are a lot of giant redwoods. There are also a lot of trails one can explore.

  • 5/5 N'Dozie M. 1 year ago on Google
Beautifully majestic place to see some redwoods. Paved walkway was nice if you have a stroller or don't like going off trail. We explored off the main trail which wasn't as busy. Weather was wet and rainy so the trail was muddy. Kids loved the sticky muddy trails and puddles. Lots of water run off which we used to clean muddy boots. Parking was easy. Glad its reserved so you don't risk showing up to find nowhere to park or a long hike before the hike. Staff were helpful both on the phone when planning during stormy weather and when we got there to make recommendations. Junior Ranger badges were available for children once completing the booklet we got at the entrance. The visitors center was popular. You can find food snacks and souvenirs in the visitors center. Look forward to our next visit.

Very nice walking in the red wood trails. The wetness can be felt during when rains. The trees are huge. The understory is protected as there is a paved walking trails. There is also an unpaved walking trails. Thanks to national park service for protecting the forest. The stream was full of water flowing through the forest. There are smaller streams seen across the trails. I recommend everyone to visit. I suggest to reserve the parking space. There is 10 minutes wait time to find the parking. There are boards along the Muir Woods road saying that reservation required for parking. The drive from San Francisco is nice. There are nice curves along the route. There are restrooms, cafe and visitor center. I wish the forest grows in to a bigger forest. I see trees were burnt at some point due to forest fires. Overall a great visit. Must visit this place to visit nearby San Francisco.

Great place to see some ancient redwoods without going far from the Bay Area and without having to walk far either. You won't get the as-big-as-a-house trees but plenty big enough to impress. Very peaceful. All these photos are from an easy <1 mile round-trip loop on fairly accessible paths and boardwalks.

Simply beautiful! Well worth the drive from The bay area just get your advanced parking permit in advance! Theres a short hike that is wheelchair accessible along the giant coastal Redwoods of California.

So many people recommended this stop and it didn’t disappoint. We loved hiking around the trails and exploring the park. It is true that there is no cell service so make sure to screenshot your pass before arriving. The road to the park is twisty and windy. Bring some gloves and a hat. You can also peel off layers as you go. Your cell phone GPS will work offline so you can find out your location if you go deep along on the trails.

  • 5/5 Prakash P. 5 months ago on Google
Beautiful place with trails for all levels of expertise. Bohemian Grove is pretty much flat and takes around 30 to 45 mins to do the loop. There is a stream. And of course the redwoods are the giants of this place. Must see for any nature lover.

One of the great places to visit in the Bay area. To stand among these majestic trees and enjoy the sights and the smells of this beautiful forest is an unforgettable experience. The trails are very well maintained and capacity controls ensure that while you have to really plan for your visit, you have a good time while you are there.

A perfect and serene redwood forest. A leisurely trail for beginning hikers or walkers. We saw a deer, butterflies, slugs and centipedes. Caution there are a few wasp infestations which are clearly marked and roped off. I come here every time I visit the Bay Area.

Came here with my fiance yesterday. This place is amazing!! It's so beautiful and it smells awesome, like pines and lemons. The Redwoods are quite a site to see! They are massive and seeing them everywhere, it almost doesn't even look real! We had an awesome time hiking in here.

A very unique place just on the north side of Golden Gate Bridge. Don’t miss to pay a visit if you ever visit Northern California. Tall Redwood trees that are millions of years old. Temperature is always cold here due to thick forest, so be prepared. We visited din a weekday, so didn’t have any problem getting in. Weekend may be a different story. It takes 1-2 hour to check this place out unless you go for a long hike.

Our recent family trip to Muir Woods was nothing short of magical. Perfectly suited for families, this area offers a wide range of walking paths, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. For those with small children, you'll be pleased to know that the paths are pram and pushchair-friendly. Remember, it's essential to reserve your parking beforehand. This is easily done online, but a word of caution - be sure to screenshot your reservation barcode. Once you're in the vicinity of the woods, cell service can be pretty spotty, making it a challenge to retrieve digital content. Now onto the wonder of Muir Woods itself - the Redwoods. These towering, ancient trees hold a sense of mystery and history that's both awe-inspiring and humbling. If you're a fan of science, history, or nature, you'll feel an immediate connection to this place. Our family thoroughly enjoyed the experience, but we left wishing for more time to explore the longer trails. It's an excursion that leaves a mark and one that I'd recommend to anyone visiting San Francisco. For families in particular, it's a must-do, a treasured memory waiting to be made amidst the majestic Redwoods of Muir Woods.

A beautiful and awe-inspiring experience. It was more crowded than I was expecting on a Tuesday, but apparently it was far LESS crowded than it normally is on a weekend so I would recommend going during the week. The base loop trail is well built and easily accessible for those in wheelchairs and walkers. The path loops around and goes over a beautiful creek at multiple points so it's easy to make a loop and get back to the parking lot. I took the shuttle and it was great not having to drive that winding mountain road! The Cafe is adorable and the gift shop well stocked. The fact that you can sit underneath this ancient giants and enjoy a lovely lunch is priceless. If you are looking to take pictures of birds or other wildlife it's probably best to take the canopy trails, there weren't many birds on the floor level but you could certainly hear them! Between the amazing smell of the forest, the sounds of the running creek and birds chirping it was extremely peaceful. I have annual national park pass so it was free to get in with that but pricing for the shuttle was super cheap.

  • 5/5 Roberto F. 9 months ago on Google
Great experience. Make sure to reserve a parking lot way in advance. However, the shuttle is a great option and you don't have to stress about driving and parking. You can take the loop (short hike and flat path) or the extended trail up the hill. This is not an easy hike but good for experienced hikers.

  • 5/5 Rodrigo T. 8 months ago on Google
Muir Woods, what to say about this amazing place! If you like to breathe fresh air, this is the place. Amazing also for its wonderful millennial sequoias, but if you like hiking, you will be enchanted even more! I suggest that before you go, schedule the parking! Because it is an incredible place, it hardly finds parking, unless it stops too far from the entrance or arrives too early.

  • 5/5 S. O. 8 months ago on Google
Muir Woods is always a delight to visit. This time was no exception. Whether you're an avid hiker or a total couch potato just out for a stroll with the family, Muir Woods offers the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature. The only complaints are people making way too much noise in the designated quiet areas (on purpose) and leaving their trash behind. Parking reservations are definitely required and make sure you bring water and sturdy shoes for the trails.
