This trail actually goes in to Joshua Tree National Park, as evidenced by the small National Parks Service sign along the trail. Payment is not required to use this trail, so you can see some Joshua Trees and save some money. The trail is great, with beautiful panoramic views of the mountains and lots of nice trees and scenery. There is a podium at the top of a peak that has a sort of guestbook you can sign, but unfortunately people think it's funny to draw inappropriate things like in elementary school. Otherwise though it's an awesome trail and well worth it. Reception and GPS directions work fine, it will take up you towards a campground. Don't be deterred by the signs to register for camping, that isn't necessary if you are just hiking. Just follow the road the GPS tells you to the trail.

What an incredible experience! This is an easy to moderate trail with a decent grade. It is a short hike at only 1.3 miles. Make sure that you wear shoes with decent grip as the sand can get slippery. The views from the top are astounding!

Trail was well marked and fairly easy. We went up counterclockwise from the start and was a more gradual incline than the other route. Beautiful views of the sunset behind the mountains. Lots of pretty flowers as well this time of year.

A great hike. The bottom half of the roof is a level one so super easy for anyone in the family. The upper part is a level two and it’s a nice vertical climb great exercise. Great views of all the valleys up top. Highly suggested!!!

Loved it! Great contrast between this area and the eastern section of the park. We hiked the 4.5 mile trail that goes around the mountain.

An incredible, short hike outside of the park. Extremely clean trails, well maintained. The views are great, and the flora is dense and attractive. I didn't see a single piece of litter on the ground ( PLEASE KEEP IT THAT WAY ) We took the kids, 4 and 7. We'd definitely do this hike again.

Great trail to see all the flora and fauna in the park. Very healthy stands of Joshua Trees as well. The trail is easier to gain elevation if you go counter clockwise. Good view from the top of the west end of the park.

It’s a beautiful trail! The views are spectacular. Joshua trees everywhere. I would classify it as a moderate hike though, instead of a short walk like mentioned in the National Park Service website. There’s a bit of stair climbing.

Relatively short and easy hike that offers some great views, and is not too congested with other hikers. Finding the trail head was slightly challenging as we missed the dirt road entrance right before entering the nearby campground. If you have an hour and want to avoid crowds, would recommend checking this out.

Absolutely stunning view. We went at ~8:30a in late July and weather wasn’t too warm.

Very scenic plenty of Joshua trees and incredibly easy short trail loop. One do need good grip boots sandy trail is slippery on some spots. On some websites there was a mention of benches at this trail but we did not see any.

Easy to moderate hike (some gradual incline). Beautiful hidden gem 🏜️

Great hike with terrific view. We went counter clockwise, thus our descend was a bit more challenging. The views at the top were rewarding. There's a thin layer of haze covering the mountains view.

Nice shorter hike with decent views. There are some man made steps on the way up but no benches to sit and take breaks. Very windy.
