This is one of the best historical monument of Lucknow. It was built by Nawab Wazid Ali Shah and situated in historical area of old Lucknow I e Kaiserbagh. Currently this is under the Government control and govt let it out for exhibition, marriage and other functions. One of the good place to know the Lucknow better.

Safed Baradari is situated in Qaisar Bagh, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It's one of the architectural marvel built by White Marble in 1854 AD. It's a double storeyed decorated structure. Central Hall is having high roof and all the side balconies to witness the activities in Central Hall. Now it's a popular wedding and other grand functions venue though it was built for mourning.

Historical landmark of Quaiser Bagh Lucknow or the heart of old Lucknow. Baradari may defined as a building having 3 doors each on four sides. Architectural style is typically ‘Lakhnavi’. Made of white marble in 1854 by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah for religious purposes. Later it was taken over by East India Company and used as a court house. As of now it is used for commercial purposes/marriage ceremonies.

The sereneness of the place says it all! Located in the heart of the city, I visited this beautiful place last week. The reason? 🤔 Booking the place for my marriage ceremony 😅😌 Rain on that day added to the ambience and I was just lost in the silence and beauty of this beauty!

The pride of Lucknow is Baradari, as such, there are two Baradaris in Lucknow, one Red Baradari and the other white Baradari. We show you the beauty of White Baradari, which is a historical building protected by the Government of India, decorated with very beautiful carvings, green in all four directions. This building, built amidst lush gardens, is located near the Kaiserbagh intersection. In the Gadar movie, this building is shown as the house of Amresh Puri. This building is also very beautiful from inside, you can see for yourself. Thank you.

White Baradari, It was built by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah as a 'palace of mourning' and was named Qasr-ul-Aza. Initial purpose of this building was to be used as an Imambara for observing 'azadaari' (mourning) for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his followers at Karbala. After the annexation of Awadh in 1856, the Baradari was used by the British to hold court for petitions and claims by the officers and nobles of the deposed King's reign and his relatives. Later (around 1923) it was handed over, as a gesture of appreciation for their submission and loyalty to the Queen of the British Empire, to the Taluqadars of Awadh for their 'Anjuman' (association) which was renamed as the British India Association of Oudh. The Baradari continues to be in their possession and control. The main hall of the Baradari has two marble statues of the Maharajas, Man Singh and Digvijay Singh of Balrampur, the founders of the association. The statue of Sir Man Singh was carved by Farmer & Brindley of London, at a cost of £2 000, and was unveiled on 13 August 1902 by Sir James John Digges La Touche, Lieutenant-Governor of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh.

A Baradari is an structure with twelve doors. It is a pavilion with arched openings, three openings on each of the four sides of the building. It is located in Qaisar Bagh on a raised platform. There is a large terrace. Chandeliers (jhoomars) hang from the ceiling. The building is very well maintained. It was built in 1854 in the time of the last Nawab of Oudh, Wajid Ali Shah. It was originally called Qasr-ul-Aza, meant an Imambara, a congregation hall for Shia commemoration ceremonies, associated with Muharram. After the mutiny (actually first war of Independence), under the East India Company’s administration, Safed Baradari was turned into a court for hearing petitions from Wajid Ali Shah’s relatives and officers. Around 1923, it was handed over to Anjuman-E-Hind Avadh, an association of Taluqdars of Oudh. The building is now being used for a wedding receptions and commercial events.

Safed Baradari is a Royal Monument-like Building situated in the Qaiser Bagh area near Oudh Gymkhana Club Lucknow. This beautiful marvel of Architecture will please your eyes at first sight. The Safed Baradari means a Building in White colour having 12 gates, the reason behind this name is this building built of White Marble and has 12 gates with beautiful carvings and Colourful Glass work done. The eye-catching carvings, paintings and light lamps (jhoomer) are very good. This building was made by Nawab Wajid Ali Shah as a place of prayer like Imambara but in 1856 after invading Awadh this building used by Britishers as a Court where hearing of cases and file petitions happened. If you are in Lucknow then please adjust half an hour time and see the beauty of Awadhi style Architecture.

The Safed Baradari has a Mughal architecture & is given out for public gatherings. It was initially constructed to be used as an Imambara. The Safed Baradari was used for meetings during the First War of Indian Independence. In its main hall, I saw two statues – of Maharaja Mansingh & Digvijay Singh of Balrampur. Several movies have been shot here. The heritage structure does exude an old – world grandeur. But its toilets need to be revamped & maintained.

British India association has been kind to all of us. My great grandfather honourable Raja Sir Ram Pal Singh ju Deo (K.C.I.E) of kurri-sudauli estate district Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. Was the first President of safed Baradari. And I have plenty of memories.

  • 3/5 Arshad M. 5 months ago on Google
The most critical factor is the monument used for lots of marriage functions is not handicap friendly. While renovation the authorities should consider a wheelchair ramp alongside the stairs at the entrance and small ramps at the entrance of the main hall. Lots of open space along with a covered hall make it a perfect place for marriage ceremonies.
