Very old and iconic point in the Stone Town, built by Omani Arabs in 1699. A visit here does not take a lot of time and is quite worth doing. Inside there is an amphitheater, where the Zanzibar International Film Festival takes place, and many various shops. I recommend walking up the walls to see the views. In one of the round towers there is an interesting art gallery and shop.

There's not so much still going on in here except for the building itself reminding you of the history, then many traders and artisans selling their souvenirs, goods and crafts in the shops at the courtyard behind.

(Translated by Google) I will not elaborate on this place. MANDATORY ITEM! while exploring Zanzibar. 😍 Paid entry, but it's worth it. 👍🏻 Take your cameras with you. You can buy souvenirs on site, so your wallet will also be useful. 😉

A piece of ancient history at the heart of Stone town. Built by the Omanis in the 17th century it has had many uses over the years. Now it is used as a traditional market where local items are being sold including paintings. More information about the place should be provided so as to educate the tourists visiting the same.

Its a really well preserved old fort (as the name says) with some shops inside and unfortunately not very clean (free entry and no checks) the gallery up too is really cool! Lots of local paintings!

Great historical significance, free entry but unfortunately not well preserved, no museum, no artefacts, stalls selling curios. ... lost opportunity.

Beautiful historical place with lots of shops to buy souvenirs, clothes, paintings and many more. The entrance is free although if you want a guide, you can get them at a fee. There are boards with information at the entrance outside and inside and sometimes there are local concerts peformed which you are expected to pay an entrance fee for, if you are to attend

Great historical place. Coral and stone fortified. Wonderful atmosphere. Important point in the history of Zanzibar. Shopping opportunity in the fort though most expensive for the same regular stuff you will get elsewhere. Great amphitheatre inside the fort. Every year a music/ film festival organised here. Don't forget to climb the tower.

Built or modified in the 17the century, this 400+ year old site is a must visit while in Zanzibar. nearby is a huge market where u can find literally anything. Just be prepared to strike a hard bargain. If u chance one of the numerous performances in the amphitheater within, its quite memorable. outside is a food market, the highlight is the sugarcane juice freshly squeezed with a ginger and ice.

This is a wonderful Location to be and relax. Our booking agency told then that we are vegan. From the beginning to the end we were offered three menus a day. They informed themselves what vegan eat and not. Breakfast was fresh Coconut milk with selfmade ceareals, fruit salad, wholecorn toast with curcumber and tomato. Pancakes were also be offered. The dinner and lunch were a 3 course menu. Everything fresh prepared and served so wonderful. The taste was exactly ours. We send to the complet stuff our best wishes and a big thank you. We are glad to stay at our place.

(Translated by Google) A small fort built by the Arabs at the beginning of the 18th century. Old cannons are displayed on the embankment in front of him. Admission is free, at the entrance you need to sign up in the journal, guide at will ($ 10). There are several cafes and souvenir shops inside. In one of the towers there is an exhibition and sale of paintings, through which you can go to the fortress wall, from where a good view of the surroundings opens.

The Old Fort in Zanzibar is a historical landmark that offers visitors a unique experience. The fort was built in the 17th century by the Omani Arabs and was used as a defensive structure to protect the island from invaders. Today, it has been transformed into a cultural center that showcases the history and culture of Zanzibar. Visitors to the Old Fort can explore the various exhibits and displays that highlight the island's rich history and cultural heritage. There are also regular performances of traditional music and dance, as well as art exhibitions featuring local artists. One of the main attractions of the Old Fort is the nightly food market, which offers a wide variety of local cuisine and street food. Visitors can sample dishes such as Zanzibari biryani, grilled seafood, and samosas while enjoying live music and entertainment. Another popular activity at the Old Fort is shopping for souvenirs and handicrafts. The fort is home to a number of shops and stalls selling traditional Zanzibari items such as spices, textiles, and jewelry. Overall, a visit to the Old Fort in Zanzibar is a great way to immerse yourself in the island's culture and history while enjoying delicious food, live entertainment, and shopping.

(Translated by Google) Nice atmospheric place. You can take pictures for insta. The merchants inside are dropping prices several times. An example of a local cap is a cap. Initially he charged me a price of 20,000 shillings and then ran after me all over the fort to get this hat for 5,000 shillings. So boldly cut the price in two or three times. Especially for compatriots Alex Migratory bird. It’s free to wander around, although I recommend looking up the history if not taking a guide. There are often concerts or family events held here and the atmosphere is great. Nice little bar and cafe inside near the amphitheatre. Public toilets available although not always the cleanest when it’s busy

There are not so many touristic highlights in Stone town, the old fort is one of those few (just sign in at the front desk for a free walk)...don't expect too much, a 10min walk will be enough, but take a look in the front tower for some nice paintings.

The Old Fort in Stone Town is an impressive historic structure and is now a vibrant shopping and cultural hub. As soon as I walked through the entrance, I was struck by the grandeur and scale of the fort, with its towering walls and imposing gate. The fort is home to a variety of shops selling everything from handmade crafts and jewelry to clothing and souvenirs. I was impressed by the high quality of the items on offer, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of Zanzibar. A standout feature of the Old Fort was the beautiful courtyard, which was filled with lush greenery and provided a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of Stone Town. I enjoyed sitting in the shade of the trees and watching the world go by while sipping on a refreshing fruit juice from one of the nearby vendors.

Beautiful place with serene environment and natural surroundings. Kijongo Bay's Swahili style architecture is delightful. It's a great place to commune with nature. I had wonderful morning yoga sessions on the veranda of our apartment. Although, its located in a remote place, the food, service and surroundings make the distance spent traveling quite worth it. Note of caution: You need not less than a week's stay in order to savour all Kijongo Bay Beach Resort and its surroundings have to offer. It is well managed by Steve and Brit. The staff are friendly and on top of their game.

Excellent stay with my wife and 3 kids. It's a beautiful place, the villas are very nice, it is also the best food I had in Tanzania what really stands out is the service. Brit, Steve and the whole staff made our stay very special. Steve took twice on boat rides and snorkeling and he spent a great amount of time teach us about nature and wildlife. I highly recommend this place.

And so come whoever you want. Along the perimeter inside a souvenir shop. On the left is something in the form of an amphitheater with stone benches. The scene is the same. You can go in once. Near the exchanger that works even on weekends. It changed the remaining shillings the day before departure. (Original) Старый форд из кораллового камня как и все здания в Стоун тауне.
