Trio: Reception person, person with mosquito repellent & security are hand in hand for scamming tourists with fake dollar bills. There is no such thing as "locked door" to your room, your belongings are their belongings at the right time(a small trick can open your door anytime). Video footage with thief scheme on my go pro handed to embassy. Reported to police, police knows about it and does not recommend the place either. It seems that people are aware and avoid the place (90% of their rooms are empty).-5 stars

I went there to swim but I got a reaction after that, when I tried to call the General Manager to informed him, he denied and told that such thing cannot happen to their swimming pool. Is that the way Manager show the hospitality of it's Resort? I've been having swelled face and burning skin. Even though maybe was not their fault is that how we got services from you? Where is that hospitality anyway? I hate it and I hate the General Manager's character.

I went out if season so the hotel was quiet. Rooms are serviced daily and amenities are good. Hotel is on the beach and the tide goes far out each day but comes right up to the hotel in the afternoons. Lovely authentic good sized rooms and all staff are attentive and polite. Very good security.

Zanzibar beach resort is a very quiet, calm surrounded by shades of blue water place. Itโ€™s very closely connected to nature so instead of people youโ€™ll hear birds chirping. Hospitality and management is very warm and welcoming. Rooms are clean, spacious and they have maintained it as per the old zanzibarian style. However, in my view only beach facing rooms are the best. Per food, Chef Balram who is an Indian chef out there understands your taste and needs and makes a right blend. He had arranged a special surprise dinner for us when we were on our honeymoon and it was very overwhelming. To find a place where people tend to understand and create your tastes. Sharing some pictures of the set up.

Came to see the hotel as my partner had previously been a customer many years ago . We asked the receptionist about swimming but that we didnโ€™t wish to swim in this occasion but just have a drink . She Said that was fine so we proceeded to look and walk around the poo to see the sea and then to go to the bar when we were approached by a staff member who was quite hostile towards us even before we had a chance to explain we were not swimming or using the beds on this occasion and we had checked with the receptionist and she said it was ok to have a drink and look at the grounds. The male staff member was rude and lacked any customer service skills he made us feel like we had committed an offence when we were just walking and wanted to just pay our private respects to my partners late wife whose ashes were interred 15 years ago in the sea beyond this hotel that they both had frequented for many years. You can imagine how upsetting this was for us. He told us to go from the area . We went to the bar to get a drink and sit in the lounge to watch the sunset and have a moment. I decided to go to the receptionist and complain the way her colleague had spoken to us and that she failed to mention the policy of no go area. She apologised but as we were so upset I didnโ€™t think just to pay the swimming charge which was only 20000 tsh for 2 persons thatโ€™s what I should have done in hindsight even though we did not want to swim ! but we were so shocked the way we were treated. We will never go back not even for a swim the pool did. not look very clean.

Visiting this hotel for many years but never saw it in that bad condition. Dirty, lots of things broken, absolutely dirty beach, no love, no care somehow. Food was ok but not wow. All somehow tasted very similar and over spiced. Staff very friendly though

Been to this wonderful place, rooms are king size.. you will get the food as per your taste and requirements.. staff has changed and the property is now managed by fee young dyadic staff, who always comes and asks for your suggestions.. heard a very bad review but honestly none of them are true.. Heard about a lot of theft, be cautious as it might be because of domestic forces.. one draw back itโ€™s a bit internal, so if you want some emergency stuff carry it along.. Itโ€™s good for couples and family..

The beach has amazing views of the ocean. The local staff are really nice and the rooms are clean. The hotel is some km from the port but easily accessible. Breakfast wasnt that good n we couldn't get hot water in the bathroom on the first day. But on the second day we got warm water and really nice breakfast.

I stayed for about a week, and it was amazing. Very, very kind manager who sorted my every whim, a very kind, helpful and chatty Lucas in the restaurant and lots of helpful staff right from security. That is not to mention the amazing views that the hotel offers. And.....it happens to have lots of history, too, including the fact that it is the oldest hotel in Zanzibar. Go check it out.

Everything was okay until someone stole my money when I was out for lunch. I informed them about it but the head of security was not of any help. I asked them if they could check the CCTV to see the people who went to the room but they didn't accept. The head of security said they would look into it and get back but never did because he did not even ask me my room number..

Terrible Warning- Do not book here! Forfiet your money if you already paid. Should be closed during construction and possibly condemed. WE WERE BITTEN BaDLY BY BEDBugS! You arrive to the entire lobby fenced off with mesh and dust and the entire floor is gone. You walk over a bridge water feature to get to rooms but no water is in it. The water fountain going to restaurant is cracked with no water. The pool is merky and with the red light at night looks OMINOUS! There were muddy trenches dug all over the lawn. The day bed was filthy. They locked beach access because they said it is dangerous. The website implies there is beach access but the gates to the beach was locked for safety concerns. Those photos are NOT the beach at this resort probably stock photos. The water has local fisherman and looks very commercial and looks uninviting. The new owners from India would not answer their phone to speak with Expedia even though I was in the office with employees who told Him that Expedia was given his number and was calling him several times. So I had to take 3 calls while roaming. He said the website says we have construction. But the place was so filthy. Mold in exterior walls, merky pool, coverings on daybed were spotted and soiled and the fridge has mold on the rubber around the door. The manager, sales manager and staff were kind and tried to manage the unmanagable. Fareed did very well to comp our meal and the chef prepared a great dinner and came to the table to say hello. We asked for a ocean view but a largish tree was planned directly in front of the door and blocked the ocean view, smh. You cant make this stuff up! There is no walkabikity. Not touristy, fun or lively. You won't strike up a conversion with tourist at the bar or on the beach - not many people and not approachable. They seemed to allow paid access to the pool to Non-hotel patrons. If I could give 0 stars I would have.

Advantages: - 5 minutes to the airport - Nicely ad equiped rooms - Nice garden - The food at the restaurant was surprisingly good even though we were almost the only guests Disadvantages: - Checkin very complicated (we had to wait 45mins for the checkin because -> we don't know - they coulndn't tell us // bad English communication skills of the reception employees) - We ordered a taxi for 4am for airport transportation. Before going to the room the evening before, we quickly paod everything at the reception and made sure it will work. The receptionist then called & awoke us at 03:27 that the taxi is here. We stressed a lot to be as fast as possible at the reception. Once there he told us that he called us, called the taxi at thet moment and told me, that he is on the way! - Swimming on the beach almost impossible since the water level is very low - Pool is used by externals (schools?) which is on one hand good but on the other hand it was a big group, sun chairs occupied, very loud, water was dirty afferwards and pool bar seemed to be closed - There was a very little amount of guests and therefore the hotel seemed to be almost empty compared to its size

We stayed at Room 110, which was convenient as it was only a three-minute walk from the lobby. The room was spacious, with a double bed, a living area, an office desk, a spacious bathroom with a hot/cold shower and two sinks, a closet area, and a beautiful veranda with a sea view. The air conditioning worked well, which is a must because of the hot weather. The mosquito net around the bed appeared to do its job, plus there was hotel staff visiting every evening to spray anti-mosquito repellent. The room was on the second floor, though, so taking luggage up and down the stairs required assistance from the (helpful!) hotel staff. Those who kept our rooms tidy--Grace and Grace (same names!)--were kind and patient with our requests. At the restaurant, Amina and Agness were also sweet and friendly--always ready to attend to our needs with a smile. At the reception, Maureen and Sam readily helped address our concerns about checkout and payment. Overall, we had a great time. One suggestion for enhancement would be more options for the breakfast buffet, as there was little variation during our six-day stay. The food was flavorful, though, and I enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the resort. Room service was also excellent, but note that food preparation takes time so I recommend ordering an hour in advance.
