Warning ⚠️ tourist trap. We asked our guide to take us there after all the good reviews. Lots of people so it took about 1 hour to be served, the food was cold, and the mistake and drink came half an hour afterwards so do not bother if you are hungry. No one special with the food either, it was cheap on the menu but the waiter adds at least 50 percent so you pay overpriced for a cheap food. Unpleasant staff or they do not even show a receipt and so on warnings later discovered that the wallet was gone so beware inside

Had some good food at Lukmaan. Can’t complain. Very nice people there. All the food is halal, no pork. If you are allergic to cats, Lukmaan is not your place. A lot of cats waiting for you to drop something. Besides that, delicious fish, the Vitumbua were delicious, donuts were good. Delicious fresh juice. Good vibes 😎

Lukmaan is our favourite place in Zanzibar and makes it a point to go there every time we are there. It has great tasting food at very reasonable prices. You can choose what you want and it's prepared fresh and hot, right then and there. Recently, we had jumbo prawns, roasted squid, chicken curry, and king fish fillet. Even the mango avocado salad was delightful. The juice options are fantastic (recommend the carrot/orange and ginger juice). The spiced coffee is really something - be prepared for strong doses of ginger and pepper! Lukmaan never disappoints!

Great local food offered through a wide range of dishes. A friendly waiter will meet you as you enter and find a table for you either upstairs or downstairs in this busy restaurant which has the appearance of being in institution for visitors and locals alike in Zanzibar. Your waiter will also show you the range of food available in the glass cases and barbecue which ranges from pillau, to ugali with range of soups, including spinach and okra, as well as fish, meat and typical local snacks such as samosas. The food is served in good quantity portions and tastes so very good that you'll find yourself going back. The downside is the wild cats, that walk around looking for food and will 'meow' at your table until you chase them away, or ask the waiter to do same. We saw one over excited cat actually scratch one customer and have been buying take-away since - please don't let the cats put you off and try the restaurant, with take-away if necessary.

For the locals, tourist who would want fresh food made up after order this is not the one. Foods already made and reheated. We order food that was okay..........

I’ll give it 5 stars because it really represents the spirit of Zanzibar. Here tourists and local eat at the same place, it’s really rare in Zanzibar unfortunately… Food is fresh and tasty. It looks like a large buffet with service You can chose anything you want and waiters will bring it to you Although, I think that we may have been given an overestimated bill but I did not count each item. Whatever, I think it was worth the price we paid. 50k shillings for 2 pers.

Convenient location, great customer service & lighting. Albeit, food is extremely mediocre. Plus, because they were running short on king prawns, they hiked the prices. Menu price is 10k but was charged 15k instead. Most of the items on the menu also not avail. I would not return. Useless place. Most of the positive reviews are from the Zanzibarians who have not been exposed to delicious food!

After a week of exploring Stone Town this is our favourite restaurant. Their upper deck is the place to enjoy a great meal and watch people, tourists and locals alike. My advice: Start on the ground floor. Ask one of the many friendly waiters (with amazing English) to explain the dishes on the counter for you (and quote the price; no surprises and no cheating here!). Then make up your mind, you will find it hard to choose. May I suggest: order a number of dishes, and share. The bill will not break your bank. Instead you will leave full, satisfied, happy, and curious to explore more of the local cuisine in authentic places like this one.

One of the best places for eating in Stone Town! There is a lot of different dishes and their all in display so that you can look and choose. I recommend to get a table and then point at the dishes that you wanna have, someone in the staff will then serve it, I found it faster and easier than ordering at the table. Staff is nice and fast! Good prices! Delicious food and fresh smoothies! 😁

It is probably the best place to try traditional Zanzibari cuisine. I didn’t really like the food though so I would recommend trying it but I am not sure you will enjoy your meal here. The service was good and the waitress was very helpful. The hygiene was on the down side.

The dishes are a small tapasy style. The grilled fish is the best and very tasty. The other smaller traditional dishes are good, too. Overall, it was a good experience, but it is slightly hyped. Actually, it's very touristy, but you do find some locals eating here. Very friendly staff. Recommend it just so you witness the experience. No beers.

Typical Stonetown restaurant with oriental vibes. Not all the food is available at every time, once you arrive the waiter will take you around to check which food is currently available and choose from which I wasn't a big fan of the idea, since I really wanted the Indian chicken but it wasn't available For appetizers, we ordered 2 x beef samosas and 1 x Indian kebap, both were mediocre (2*), they were dry and not much of flavor. For mains, we 2 x ordered Biryani rice with a nice thick oniony and spicy red gravy with potatoes (5*), a quarter tandoori chicken (4*) We also ordered two strawberry mojitoes they were really nice and refreshing but a bit too sweet (4*) Generally, I would recommend you to pass by this place, but it has such a reputation, I came with very high expectations and left with an okayish experience. The waiters were friendly and the price really cheap, paid under 15€ for all of this

The politeness and quality of the service varies greatly. The drinks are nothing special, half the food is not available when going for dinner and the stuff that is available is almost cold when being served. The chips mayai was nice though, and since it’s being made to order it was warm and worth the price (considering it is not a food stall, but more restaurant-like.) Prices are okay for stone town, but the experience overall is rather lacking.

An interesting experience in food and atmosphere. It is perfect to include a food stop here in your day trip of Stone Town. I enjoyed two portions of sweet banana in coconut cream.

Good price/quality ratio and friendly staff. To be honest, the food taste was just average to good so I won’t say it’s the best restaurant of Zanzibar city. The place is busy but good experience and we didn’t wait long to get our order. So if you don’t want to spend a lot of time not money for your lunch, I would recommend to check this place.

Great seafood menu and very cheap prices🤩 Desert options were very nice as well.😋 Place was buzzing with people when we visited but luckily still managed to get the table. Only thing we weren't fully satisfied with were fresh juices, too sweet. But if you are suuuuper sweet tooth you will love it 😀

The place can get super packed. It has good food variety and the team is helpful in managing the crowds. Their pan fried fish is to die for. It is here that I saw people having sardines with chapati for the first time. Didn't try it though. Oh and I loved their Vegetables especially the 'Matembere' not sure of the spelling. Its close proximity to the Prison Museum is a plus. Take a walk there before or after you have your meal.

Good atmosphere for swahili foods. Fast&friendly service Chicken portion was a bit small conparing the price All foods we tried were delicious. Due to popularity , Cannot say its a cheap local restaurant now.

Went as a couple. Our order was taken, my partner was given one of the three dishes he ordered, I was given a plate of rice which I didn't order. By the time he'd eaten his food mine still hadn't arrived. Waited 20 minutes, nothing. Got up to pay and leave, lots of apologies. Sorry, not acceptable. The fruit juice was good. That's it, don't bother, sorry we went to this tourist trap.

Must be the most popular local restaurant in town, cheap and cheerful. Gets extremely busy for lunch so you need to fight for your table. Great value for money although I was missing some taste/spices from the dishes, for example coconut was barely detectable - maybe it’s just the local style of cooking. Still, had my lunch twice here in 3 days. If you are a strict vegetarian- veggie pilau rice did have some small traces of meat and probably cooked in meat broth.

No doubt that this is the best place to go for local food for lunch. Very crowded because its soo good. We looked on the counter and pointed on what we wanted to eat and our waitress told us all about the food they had, that's definitely the best way to order. Otherwise you could look at the menu but you don't get the same feeling. A must try is their chicken samosa 💯💯

Lukmaan Restaurant in Zanzibar is a fantastic spot for a delicious and authentic meal. I visited the restaurant for lunch on my last trip to Zanzibar and was impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly service. The menu had a great selection of local and international dishes, and I chose to try the local Zanzibari dishes. The food was flavorful and well-prepared, with the perfect amount of spice. The portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable. The atmosphere of the restaurant was casual and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They provided recommendations and made sure that I had everything I needed. Overall, my experience at Lukmaan Restaurant was exceptional. The food was delicious, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic and tasty meal in Zanzibar. It is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting the area.

Truly delicious! We tried to try a little bit of everything but there were soo many choices so that was hard. We had the best server who walked us around each station explaining what each dish/item was and then took our order right there. We went to sit in the upstairs area and our food ordered started arriving shortly after. We also got some juices which tasted great too.

Defo feels like a local haunt. The food that I had - banana curry, pancake, rice - wasn't the most exciting, but others' choices looked better! It's also basically a cat café!

Heart of Stone Town and top rated for a reason. Lots of options you can walk by and check out which was all amazing. We had small portions of a lot of different items which was the best choice. My favorite was the beef samosas. A have to visit spot.

If you are ok with a very casual setting this is your spot. The food is just so good here. We arrived hungry and ordered multiple dishes to share with my husband samosa, chicken, octopus and prawns in coconut stew, biryani rice and other things.

From a British tourist. I’m not sure where the good reviews come from. Our octopus was slimey and one jumbo prawn cost 7USD. The chapati was the best bit. It’s not as cheap as we thought and the food is definitely better elsewhere where. I cannot confirm this but I think prices are higher for waiter service vs if you go to the counter without a menu.

(Translated by Google) I chose a place for lunch in Stone Town according to Google ratings, but this time I was not happy. Ordered 3 servings of giant shrimp, instead they brought 6 scrims in one plate and said it was three servings. Not a single dessert from the menu was available. In my opinion, the institution does not deserve even one star, but I give half a star for delicious mango-passion fruit juice and half a star for not being poisoned.

(Translated by Google) We came there and saw the confusion, we didn't know where to order ... no one notices you. After a few minutes we found out how it goes there. We went to the seafood, then to the side buffet and then to pay.. it all took about 15-20min (unfortunately it takes). The best are the waiters, who will then take care of you (maybe it is better to sit on the upper floor and get served). The octopus was quite stiff, but the tiger prawns and jumbo quetta were good in taste. (Original) Přišli jsme tam a viděli jsme zmatek, nevěděli jsme kde si objednat...nikdo si vás nevšímá.

I had dinner here twice after reading a rave review, but was very disappointed. I had four different dishes, all really bland, totally tasteless in fact. My friend had chicken which was like a rock. All food in buffet is cold and even after reheating in the microwave, it's still cold. The venue is quite nice and has a rooftop eating area also.

Wonderful experience and an absolute must try for the best local cuisine...the waiters where polite and engaging. The food did not delay and was delicious. The only let down was the state of the washrooms. A lot of water on the floor which becomes a slip hazard. But an overall great experience.

This was a top three restaurant on the entire island as far as I’m concerned. It pays to be a local because no one is catering to you. A lovely little open air cafe with delicious food.
