One of the better hotels in Stone town along with branded ones farther down the road. Great location to either go out to the dock or start your maze-like town tour Staff were smiling and welcoming from the beginning. Breathtaking view of the town and the sea on the rooftop restaurant is a must see if you stay here. One drawback was the air conditioner as it hardly worked so I had to leave the window open at all times.

Loved our stay at Maru Maru. Beautiful hotel and close to everything. The management and staff take very good care of their guests. Roof top view is incredible and a lovely view of Stone Town. Pool was small but perfect for a quick dip. The layout and architecture is exactly as described and our room was very clean. Quick walk to Forodhani Gardens and lots of local vendors along Mizingani. Highly recommend.

We had a lovely one night stay at Marumaru. The double room was above our expectation. We got to check in an hour early. The room was very clean and the bathroom was very modern and clean as well. We left for an excursion and when we got back at night they had closed the curtain and put down the mosquito net for us. So nice! We ate at the roof top restaurant and where all happy with our food. The price range for a main course is 20-30 000 shilling which is fair for a rooftop and well cooked meal. We highly recommend this cute boutique hotel.

Hotel didn’t disappoint - everything seemed to work. Rooms decent, air con worked, hot water available, bathrooms clean and stocked, bed was comfy, breakfast had a good range from cheeses, cold cuts, continental foods and indian dishes. The hotel prides itself with the fact that its hosted many celebrities over the years - photos line the staircase walls leading to the rooftop restaurant (where breakfast is also had). They have a small pool on the rooftop and a gym on the ground floor plus a badminton court. Location is very convenient smack center of stone town and stone throw away from many of the highlights and landmarks. Will be back.

Simple and basic hotel in the heart of Stone Town. The rooms are really basic and relatively compact. Base rooms do not have any notable views. Walls and doors do not insulate sound well at all - very easy to hear sounds outside in the corridors. There is loud music playing in the restaurant every night and can be heard inside the rooms until about 22:00. This is quite a disturbance. Rooftop bar and restaurant are the highlights. Amazing sunset views over the ocean and very cheap happy hour cocktails (TZS7,000). Decent breakfast quality with ample choice. Dinner and lunch menus are expansive and of good quality.

Historic & well-maintained architecture, located steps away from merchants, the waterfront activities, and the Freddie Mercury Museum. Warm and helpful staff. The nightly happy hour, with its panoramic views and tasty menu, deserves a visit...or two.

This is an excellent hotel close to many different places to visit in Stonetown. The hotel is very clean and the staff are friendly and efficient. The roof top is perfect for sunsets, there is a swimming pool and restaurant on the roof top area too. The food is very good and the buffet breakfast has endless options. The only negative is that they play music or have live music in the evenings which sounds loud in your room if you are trying to sleep. The bedroom has AC but the bathroom does not so it feels very hot in there!!

We enjoyed a comfortable stay for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids in a family room. The front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. The breakfast and Happy Hour food was good and the drinks were strong. Enjoyed the roof top views and pool. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others considering a trip to Stone Town.

During my short stay, I enjoyed the views from the rooftop and the salt-water pool . The exterior room on the 3rd floor also had gorgeous city and sea views. The room was quiet, very clean, and practical; however, improvements are needed in the quality of the pillows and mattress. The restaurant area at the rooftop served one of the best breakfasts in Zanzibar. The dinner was excellent, offering a variety of options to choose from. We tried traditional Swahili dishes - chicken and seafood curry. Last but not least, there is a very decent and modest spa. Overall, it was a very pleasant and quiet stay, with good amenities, in the beautiful surroundings of vibrant Stone Town.

Excellent location and comfortable rooms. Right in the heart of Stone Town and so easy to walk to all the important places. The service staff were very friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. The reception staff (with the exception of a lovely lady) seemed a little less friendly.

The cleanliness of the hotel rooms is commendable. Staff hospitality is very good. Breakfast is superb. Please inform the room service people if they knock into the room, they should wait for at least few minutes before they decide to open the door by themselves. Otherwise thank you for the very good service.

Four of my colleagues and I stayed at your hotel from October 21 to October 25. I find your staff most welcoming. I enjoyed the live band which serenade us while we have dinner. The staff was always ready to serve to ensure my comfort. I would stay here again. Thank you

This beautifully decor hotel makes an impact on any discerning visitor. The smiling faces at the reception was only the starter. The facilities I needed for the 3 days conference were of the highest calibre but more important was the support staff who were on time, courteous and beautiful. The decor of our room was appealing for a business client of my kind and the buffet lunch is something to behold. The diversity of foods, the salad bar and the service was just so perfect. This is not my first time- my third- and I will be coming back again. Thank you Maru Maru.

This is a charming hotel. I love the unique chandeliers throughout the place. Even in the bathroom they were so pretty. I love a pretty room and nice bathrooms. The hot water was just right for the shower. Staff were very helpful. Every one of them were friendly, kind, and made themselves useful. The breakfast in the morning was amazing! There was great variety and fit anyone's eating preferences. The staffs were so kind to refill coffee and teacups quickly. The chai tea was some of the best I had ever had. This hotel is also in a convenient location for walking to the beachfront or through the town.

One of the best hotel in stone town - Zanzibar. It has that excellent customer care with attention to details. Rooms are spacious and extra ordinary neat/clean. Variety of food, the live Music band in the evening, e.t.c all gives what a guest deserves whether in a holiday, business or family trip. It was a wonderful experience staying here. I promise to come back again

Great service from the staff in the hotel. Free pick-up at the airport by taxi driver of Maru Maru hotel. On our way to the hotel, the driver gave us all information of the city and historical buildings. The hotel is very clean. Nice view from the rooftop.

I was at the rooftop restaurant with friends. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the staff were very kind and attentive. The only minus for us was the food, it was bland and the service was slow. The hotel management needs to do something about the food.

The location of the hotel and amenities are wonderful and I frankly like that part. However, the management needs to do away with the 4% charges on card users that they impose on customers and it is not reflected on your receipt, or it should be included on the prices. Worst part is the manager rudely and angrily yells at customers upon inquiring to why it is not reflected on the receipt. I had to personally go to the counter and place an order for a drink even though I had made an order 30 minutes earlier to the waiter.

One of the top three places in Stone Town for sunset drinks according to our tour guide. He was right, it was stunning, but busy. We ordered some snacks (pitta/hummus/etc),the portions are small and expensive. There was construction work going on so it was noisy, but all in all, we wanted to see the sunset and have a drink and we did. I would go back for the view but there are much better value places in Stone Town for food.

We tried the restaurant and were utterly frustrated. The pasta was inedible and not how it was described on the menu. The portions of the sides we ordered were just a mouth full... Service personnel enjoyed chatting to each other, instead of actually working.

We loved our stay at Maru Maru. It was in the heart of Stone Town, right next to the Old Fort. You step outside to the shops and cafes. Staff were all friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was lovely, with lots of options and they make fresh parathas! No complaints what so ever. They also had parking available which isn't easy to come by in Stone Town, but be sure you park in the hotels bays which are free for guests!

We were there for new years dinner and were a bit disappointed. We paid $80 for a buffet and a welcome drink, but they didn't manage to get us the drink until we asked. Also, the staff was not really friendly and we had a hard time to get them to our table. Also, they just charged us mid evening without asking or explanation. Very impolite. The buffet was okay, it was a good variety of food but you can find better food for that price. They had a show going on, but we were seated at the pool so we couldn't see it. Also, the beer they gave us was not even cold. Ultimately we left before 0:00, because we just couldn't enjoy the moment.

we stopped by for breakfast but it wasnt so good. The Indian dishes were really sad n I wondered why they were even in the spread. The fritata was also below average. I was disappointed
