Lots of history embedded here. This is one of the oldest cathedrals, although it's been rebuilt, I think, with pieces from various parts of the world. Marble from Italy, wood from Zambia, Engineer from England, etc. It's one of the 'must-see's in Stone Town.

Good place to sit and absorb slave museum and to honor those who fought against this scourge. So don’t forget to visit the poorly kept graveyard behind the church

Beautiful church with interesting history such as the cross on the internal church left wall was made from a tree that grew up on a missionary's heart. Also, the 12 pillars at the entrance were fix upside down by mistake...must see when in zanzibar

This is one of the houses of worship that makes us remember to pray and any of these places gives us real faith when we meet for prayer, even though prayer is everywhere.

(Translated by Google) The initiator of the construction of the cathedral was Bishop Edward Steere fighting for the abolition of slavery. His grave is in the cathedral behind the altar. The Anglican Cathedral was built on the site of a former slave market. A white stone symbolizing the tree under which slaves were scourged is mounted in the floor near the altar. There is a wooden cross made of wood from the tree under which the traveler and missionary David Livingston, who was fighting to abolish slavery, died in Zambia.

Filed with rich history, the Anglican church shares journey of slave trade in Africa mostly eastern part from how it started to its abolishon. You will feel pity for our beloved brothers and sisters who were enslaved during the 18-19C sold overseas to work as peasants and house maids.

Outside the cathedral in the grounds, there is the moving Slave Memorial, which stands as a reminder of the past. We also visited the East Africa Slave Trade Exhibit, which features a series of detailed informative panels to commemorate the abolition of slavery and preserve the legacy of the individuals who were brought there and sold. At the end of the exhibit, there are the former slave chambers where they were imprisoned in terrible conditions before being sold.

Gorgeous building with so many interesting bits of information about the bishop and David Livingston. Coloumns in the church are famously upside down and the ceiling is rarely shaped like a barrel. The baptizing pillar is placed where an aqueduct was said to run and the bodies of slaves were reportedly dumped and sent out to sea. This church allows you past the kneeling podium which is rare and the bishops tomb is located above. The stained glass windows are even dedicated to dr Livingston in part and the Organ is functional and original

It's a historical site in Mkunazini Stone town Zanzibar. Many foreigners like to visit this place for the rich history it contains. Although some of the historical facts about slavery here are controversial, many people visit the place for its historical significance.

(Translated by Google) It is said that the cathedral was built on the occasion of the celebration of the abolition of slavery, since its construction began in 1873 which is when precisely the oppression was invalidated (although some practices continued for some years). In 7 years they had it ready. The center of stone town. I wish I had a guide to explain things to me and I could only stay for about 15 minutes. It is a bit confusing to get to, as you have to go though the other slavery exhibit. Statues outside are very powerful.

The history here was rich. A large cathedral built by the English who sold slaves literally at the pulpit and then abolished slavery. Dungeons for slaves located just downstairs. Incredible feeling here.

(Translated by Google) The place is probably the most energetic in the city, a monument to slaves here on the territory, plus a beautiful English cathedral, very interesting architecture, an arched door to the cathedral, a special atmosphere inside, like in all cathedrals of this kind. The entrance is paid, I don't remember exactly how long, but it is definitely worth going in and taking a walk here for 30 minutes.

(Translated by Google) Church museum that tells the tragedy of slavery. Very touching the details from the altar of this Anglican cathedral which also served as a pillory to exhibit the slaves in chains, you can still see the hole in the pole where they were chained awaiting other destinations. Outside is a sculpture depicting people in chains.

A beautiful cathedral built on the ancient slave prison of the bygone era. The museum gives enough information on the slavery and reminds us how lucky we are for not being born in that generation of sorrow and misery. This started from narrow minded British thinking that racially they are superior than others with out knowing anything about grand civilisation of Egyptians that vanished due to harsh environments. It's also a reminder to humanity that when Egypt was far ahead in civilisation, rest of the planet was in the dark ages of hunter gathering across Europe and Asia.Though British started slavery with guns, they ended peacefully.

(Translated by Google) The cathedral is located in the center of Zanzibar Stone Town. It is in the same place as the old slave market. It's a lot of thought. How were the churches built? It's ironic. In any case, tourist attractions are now affecting the lives of descendants. The last picture is the place where English worship and Koreans worship. If you have to go through the slave market and ask to pay money, you can go. Korean worship begins at 10:30.
