Upon arrival, you may need to take a Corona test. Depends on how the staff feels, and which ones stop you. It seems arbitrary, even if you're doubly vaccinated and have a PCR test. After your test--or if you manage to get past it-- you'll fill out a short form and go to immigration where you can purchase your Visa. It's $100USD depending what country your from, and $50USD for other citizens. If you're from US, you can only get the $100USD multiple entry visa. You can do an e-Visa, but I do not recommend it, unless you do it at least one month in advance. MAKE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE APPLICATION ID NUMBER WHEN YOU FILL OUT THE APPLICATION--THEY WILL NOT SEND YOU A CONFIRMATION EMAIL. They are also really slow following up on emails. It is the sad and fair truth. You also will not get a confirmation receipt for paying online. Instead JUST GET THE VISA UPON ARRIVAL. If you need a taxi, call Salum. We met him, and used him exclusively on our trip. He was fair and punctual. He has WhatsApp: +255 778 073 020. Karibu Zanzibar! If you need a taxi, call Salum. This is a tiny airport with two terminals, ample space for parking, not too crowded, trolley facility to take your bags as you enter the airport. Baggage drop and covid booth accessible as soon as you enter the airport, clean and small washrooms, courteous staff and lot of chairs for one to spend time reading/texting whilst waiting to board your flight. The immigration system is super quick and smooth, won’t have long queues for there are fewer people. Two cafes located inside to access coffee, pringles and quick snacks

The Terminal 2 is the worst airport ever visited. Flow of people is absolutely not clear, it takes a lot of time to get to the gate (not far but totally unorganized), we were supposed to remove laptops etc. But the guy just told us not because to many people were waiting behind, etc. The « lounge » before the gates is totally crowded and cherry on the cake: 2 flights to Dar El Salaam are departing 5 minutes appart (one 21.25 and the other 21.30) from the same gate. All flights are indicated « on time » but we are still waiting for boarding whilst we should have already departed one hour ago, same for most flights… This place is a total mess…

The arrival hall thought the new airport terminal was nice. But the departure hall and boarding gate areas was crowded and hot. Toilets were small, smelly and dirty. Small duty free and grocery shops only.

Normal regional airport. Possibly the most affordable duty free shops (selling local items) I have ever seen. Don't go to the airport hungry though because the food is horrible!

There are fewer flights each day so it’s quite quick to check in. The toilets are smelly, Not clean enough, some lack or are running out of soap or toilet paper (especially those near the praying rooms). There is one shop with a limited offer of goods (Pringles, nuts, water and fizzy drinks). You are provided the price on a calculator (in dollars). It’s quite time consuming to apply for visa and definitely not well organised, but then again it’s Africa, not Germany 🙂 Don’t expect a lot and then you won’t get disappointed.

I had a very negative experience with the passport control in Zanzibar airport. I was flying from Zanzibar to the US via Turkey, but the immigration staff threatened to cancel my tickets because their country’s regulations “forbid me from traveling to a 3rd country other than Tanzania and US”. During the process he hinted multiple times that he was doing me a huge favor for letting me pass and wanted something as appreciation… I knew it was a bluff just to ask for bribe, so simply ignored it. These people are such a shame to this beautiful island. If anyone from airport management / immigration sees this review, please treat it seriously because your staffs are jeopardizing your country’s reputation.

The new airport, when leaving you still have to fill a form and give fingerprints and get a photo even though you did that upon arrival !! But good service nonetheless

Quante airport with efficient services. Arrival process was straightforward and fast. However would suggest to get the online visa prior to arrival. Free wifi in the airport

I flew into Abeid Amani Karume International Airport during my recent trip to Zanzibar. The airport is modern, clean and well-organized, with friendly staff and efficient service. The check-in and security processes were smooth, and the airport provided a comfortable waiting area with several shops and restaurants. The airport has private taxis that offer easy transportation options to and from the city centre, making it a convenient gateway to the island. Overall, my experience at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport was positive, and I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Zanzibar.

The airport was easy to get through, and all staff, including security, were friendly. The shops were nice enough for some souvenirs, but none of them sold snacks or chocolate, which is both disappointing and a missed opportunity for the shops and travelers who want to get rid of some extra shillings.

This small airport but modern. I expect some time getting through immigration. Prioritypass lounge is unique, in middle of gates. Offered lot of drinks and food.
