A hidden gem! I have tried this restaurant a couple of times and I has never been disappointed. The food is delicious and the portions great! I had the lamb with spinach which was 5/5 and my friend had the chicken in yogurt 4/5. One of the best value for money places. Totally recommend.

Booked for a Thursday evening around 8pm. Very small place but love the intimate setting and small menu. Service- wonderful and so friendly, very happy with the overall experience. Food- so affordable and yummy! The definitely recommend the lamb with potatos and the fish curry. Thank you for lovely dining experience

I went back here with a friend for lunch, who has never eaten here, and overall had a mixed experience. She enjoyed her chicken main (excellent sauce!) and I my pumpkin with yogurt main. Spicy and tasty. I appreciate the waitress gave me a yogurt side on the tours. The lentil dal was alright but I much prefer the smoky taste and potency of Dishoom’s dal. This had a slight peanut butter flavour, which was just odd (and I LOVE PB). The biggest downer of our meal was the ATROCIOUS baklava. Stale and sour, we each took one bite and put it down. It was apparently made the day before and the taste showed that. Bleh 🤢 Also dinking a star for cash only. We knew that going in and had cash ready, but in 2023 it’s dodgy and unacceptable to not accept card. Especially post-COVID! Service was also middling- had to grab the waitress’ attention twice.

Lovely little homely place in Angel serving home cooked Afghan cuisine. The menu is short - which is exactly how I like it. We ordered virtually everything off the menu. Such as Chicken in Yoghurt sauce, lamb with spinach, pumpkin, bread etc. But the standout dish for me was the Fish Stew. Really delicious. Only downsides is that the place is really tiny, and the baklava is average. But for what you pay, this place is outstanding value for money. Would highly recommend.

We had to queue and wait a bit to enter but it completely worth it. The yogurt chicken was the protagonist no doubts, deliciously seasoned with a peppery taste. It is all served to be shared, so we asked for rice, bread and the fish stew, which was good but honestly the chicken eclipsed it. For dessert, sweet and nice baklavas. We’ll definitely come back. Prices are very good, about 9£ each plate.

Small restaurant over two floors with sharing tables so not ideal if you are looking for some intimacy. Very popular and specialised on small selection of meat and vegetarian dishes. We tried Sarah’s dish and it was very tasty. Some people prefer to order several dishes and rice and share. They don’t accept cards but there is an atm just one minute away. I think the glass of dogh could be a bit bigger.

Not been here for a while. Still very much enjoy the food and still quick service. Shame that the yummy bread they have didn’t turn up till after we finished the meal. But still tasty. Fish one was bit on the spicier side for me as I’m not great with spice, but still great. The lamb and veggies were less of a killer for me. Nice quick sharer meal that’s not very expensive I recommend.

Food was delicious, the restaurant is simple but has a warm atmosphere. The restaurant is small so make sure you book in advance. We order too much food at the end as it was so hard to make a decision 😅 but everything was at the end super tasty... Really pleased! I'll be back. Just a note, they only take cash.

Food was tasty, place is cozy and quite unique. You will have to squeeze around, when seated to eat. Service charge of £3, for three dishes. Is pricey related to the portion of the dish. The lady was very dry, I felt that she was annoyed about having people in. Like she only wanted us to pay and leave, after having eating quickly. I will not be back. I didn’t feel comfortable. But the food was very tasty.

You know it’s going to be good when it’s cash only and the employees are a bit on the cold side…did not disappoint one of my favorite places to eat in London! And so affordable especially for Angel/Islington area. One thing to know is they will sit you at a table with strangers if you’re groups of 2. I did that once and it was funny, another I went with a group of 8 and we were sat upstairs and it was a completely (not necessarily better or worse) experience. Will go as much as I can, food is to die for and actually has spice!

Highly recommended. Small menu that’s vegan friendly. We had the dall and fish curry which were amazing and went well with bread. The only reason why I’m giving it four star is because it’s a CASH ONLY place but there was no mention of it when I made my reservation.

Amazing little find near Angel, this small restaurant with the smallest menu is an absolute recommendation. All dishes we ordered were great, but the chicken lavand-e-murgh was incredibly delicious. It's also quite cheap. It's a tiny restaurant so book if you can. Only downside is that it's cash only, but there is a cashpoint right outside.

Delicious! The Qurma e Gosht and kidney beans/lentils/potatoes with yogurt were a hit, and definitely don’t forget the chutney

A decent Afghan restaurant serving a variety of home-cooked Afghan meals. The delicious food service was ok , but it was quite busy, I really liked the fact you share your table with random guests

Very small place. Great food. Very flavourful. We loved the bread but it is only vailable in evening hours. Sharing table concept. They accept only cash. Need to make a reservation on phone. Staff doesnt seem very friendly.

This hidden gem in Islington is a must visit ! It was elegant, cosy and welcoming. The menu is very small however it was packed with flavour. We order the lamb and spinach , chicken and fish stew.We had rice and traditional Afghan bread also. It was authentic and felt like home food.

Some of the food was delicious (lamb and spinach, chicken and yogurt) - less impressed with the fish stew, but that could be down to personal preference. The bread was also nice. Didn’t rate the baklava. Service was okay, we had to share the table with another couple who were on a date which was a bit odd - we had both booked tables, not like we were walk ins who were squeezed on! Overall I’d go back, but don’t expect fine dining

Fantastic food, reasonable prices - definitely get the bread! The restaurant is very small and they really fill it so be prepared to share a table with others. Cash only.

Veggie friendly, delicious and great spice. Only thing bad is that you cannot pay by card although there is an ATM next to them.

Incredible restaurant right on Essex Road. Would recommend booking as they were not taking walk ins. Food was cheap and so flavorful, will definitely come back often!

I stumbled across this gem while I was out for a walk yesterday evening, lucky me! Polite, friendly and helpful service. It’s a small venue with a relaxed vibe. I love the simplicity of it all. Despite a small menu I still found it difficult to choose, each dish has its own appeal. Beautiful flavours from the yogurt chicken! Highly recommend, I’ll be back!

Quite interesting and decent Afghanistan restaurant, with wide range of homemade Afghan dishes. The stew fish and yogurt chicken is quite good, even though the fish is quite hot.

Finally made it to the Afghan Kitchen. This was the lamb with potatoes & pickles. Overall very tasty with a decent amount of lamb, slightly a fraction too salty. Not bad for Islington considering Upper Street has some very average eateries. Islington prices. The waitress was friendly, the server behind the counter a little bit sour. I’ve had better Afghan food in other parts of London. Bear in mind the’ll add a service charge.

This was my favourite restaurant when living in London 12 years ago! Visited last night after all this time to find it is just as perfect as I remember. Home cooked, delicious food, lovely friendly service, affordable prices, great atmosphere in this tiny place! Our favourites are the chicken with yogurt and the divine bread as always! Thank you to the wonderful lady in charge for the hospitality after all these years ❤️ Make sure you book a table in advance, only a few communal tables available.

Cute place with an upstairs area overlooking the trees on Islington green. The food was amazing, the aubergine was my favourite. Rounded off with a super tasty desert. I loved this no-fuss place and will definitely be back.

Really delicious and affordable in a lovely space. Good vegetarian options available and kind service. I personally recommend the Baghlava! Perfect way to end a meal

Nice food but a bit spicy (would have been good to mention it on the menu). Would recommend the chicken and the bread but the Dall was a bit dull. The place is very noisy but there are tables upstairs with big windows and lots of natural light. The waiters are lovely.

Amazing food but quite uncomfortable sitting area. My friend and I were on a table, with 8 more people. Plus our sits were on a bay window, higher than a normal chair. The menu is pretty short with not many options but everything is exceptional, do not forget to order bread

One of my favourite places in London. Reliably delicious food at a reasonable price. Chicken dish and lamb with spinach are both outstanding.

Really great food and well organized takeaway options. I think you get the best value/have the most fun if you eat family style with friends and try everything. Lovely staff as well.
