It's a beautiful place. It's a get away destination. I strongly recommend this place. The safari was fun and the Warm spring was breath taken.

A good trip. The place is remote and expect there to be tsetse flies (but not the sleeping sickness causing kind, just itchy welts). The warm springs are beautiful though and will make it worth the trip. There are other activities (museum and safari) but they are a little mediocre. But inquire beforehand cos some seasons are better for seeing wild animals. There are baboons and warthogs that appear to be domesticated but aren't really. The baboons stay near the rooms and pursue people (especially women and children) in an attempt to steal their bags for food. There is a shop but don't expect too much. Bring your own alcohol if you are that way inclined. The restaurant food is mediocre and service is poor. Carry sufficient snacks. Cell phone signal is spotty up there some networks are better than others. Truly a national treasure. Would recommend but I would advice to temper your expectations.

Yankari Game Reserve is a large wildlife park and former National Park located in the south-central part of Bauchi State, in northeastern Nigeria. It covers an area of about 2,244 km2 (866 sq mi) and is home to several natural warm water springs, as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna. Its location in the heartland of the West African savanna makes it a unique way for tourists to watch wildlife in its natural habitat. Yankari was created as a game reserve in 1956, but later designated Nigeria's biggest national park in 1991. It is the most popular destination for tourists in Nigeria and plays a crucial role in the development and promotion of tourism and ecotourism in Nigeria. It is also a popular eco-destination in West Africa. Yankari Game Reserve is natural environment. Animals move freely. The Wiki Warm Spring is exceptional. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the reception was awesome. The only problem is the distance from Bauchi town to Yankari is about 80Km or more than. Come and get the glimpse with nature

Good facilities but poor maintenance. Thus service is also poor irrespective of the few individual staff who try to provide good service. People who love nature would love Yankari....from the baboons to the warm spring. But be aware that you may hardly find any other wildlife except the antelope family depending on the time and season. Also go in a group, this greatly helped my friends and I to overcome the boredom...they made it fun.

Trust me to give you the truth about this place and I can say it was beautifully amazing. I loved the serene and peaceful atmosphere. The staffs are neat, hospital and very friendly too. I paid for the luxury double suites for 3 nights and paid 10,000 each. I love that there was nepa light atleast 6hours a day with AC,running water and water heater (very important because it can be very cold in the mornings and evenings) I love that house keeping was always available in the mornings. I enjoyed the fact that the museum guide was very knowledgeable. Even the safari guide was so thorough, although it's best to see animals from Feb-June. The highlight of my visit was the wikki warm springs; this spring would draw you closer to Jehovah our creator. My only problem was the food, I'd rate it 3/10. Those baboons can be violent if you're with eatables so it's better to have a stick with you. N/B: network can go off for hours. I'm definitely visiting again

It was awesome. Its advisable to go on the safari in the mornings as you get to see the animals in their natural habitat. Going in the afternoons isn't as exciting. In my opinion the highlight is the Wikki Warm Spring. You'll spend hours in it without knowing or caring that time is passing by. Yankari is so worth it. Beware of the baboons however. They're thugs

I remember traveling here for a National bikers event from Abuja. As a nature lover, It was a pleasure to ride my motorcycle to this very popular haven of wildlife. Arrived at about 6pm after passing through Keffi, Jos, Bauchi and was glad. Rooms are OK, and some needing maintenance. Very close to nature means you will see some baboons and wharthogs at close proximity in the morning scavenging. Just don't leave your doors unlocked!!! There are guides to take you through the park if you'd want a tour and close up experience with more of the wildlife. The Wikki warm spring is a very unique creation of nature which remains warm all year round is an added part of the experience. When leaving, I knew I would come back again.

A magnificent place in all ways. From the now refurbished chalets, to the well run and maintained safari as well as the warm spring, restaurant, supermarket and museum, it all makes for a sight to see. Come here for the views, the 5 different springs with different temperatures, the caves, wells and of course the animals. (Ps. check out the Sumu wildlife park close by for more animals should you have an unlucky day at Yankari's safari!)

This is a livestock market Cows and Camel basically, the market is situated at the western part of Nguru main market, all ranges of cows and camel are available. There's railway line that can easily convey the cows from the market to Kano available only on Tuesday's which happen to be the market day. Other forms of transportation are readily available ranging from small open body canter to the long trailer travelling into almost all the destination across South West, Onitsha, Aba, and Portharcourt. Beside the market is the part that operate on Wednesday for all ranges of S/He goat, Sheep and Ram respectively. Despite the insecurities in the North Eastern Nigeria Nguru happens to be one of the safest place as there's no any records of violence, hence it's very peaceful and secure for business.

It was great for what it is. It's not a good time of year to see animals there, so we didn't try. The water was amazing as always! So warm! We got supper there at their restaurant. It was good food, but fairly small portions. It didn't fill us. We had to top up with snacks afterwards. Overall fun for a 2-3 day getaway.

Yankari has a vast land mass for wildlife. It was a very beautiful view of animals in their natural habitat. It is about 30 minutes drive into the reserve from the main gate. There's the museum that houses artifacts and preserved animal parts and also a spring where you can have a feel of the water. The baboons are not too friendly, they can snatch your food, phones and purses πŸ˜‚. If time and chance happens to me again, it's a place I'll love to revisit.

Yankari is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Nigeria. A lot of the endangered species of animals scarcely found anywhere in the country are actually still in existence at Yankari National Park. You will get to see some animals you never dreamed were even in existence. The wonderful thing about the entire story is the way these animals are kept and taken care of in large numbers like they’ve never been wild animals. This is just a tip of the iceberg; don’t stay back, you need to see for yourself.

A small local cattle carts park around the market of Nguru, goods from the market are loaded from Zangon Shanu to near by villages or into the town of Nguru. The market operates Tuesday and Wednesday. Now not only cattle carts are available also local lorries for easier transportation. The place is desert making it difficult to navigate unless with special vehicles. Most of the people there are Fulani tribe from the nearby villages.

At 2,244 sq. km, the Yankari Game Reserve occupies such a large area. We drove about 44km of well paced road within the Reserve. We then went on a safari in a truck looking for animals. We were there in late October, not a particularly good time to see animals. We saw different species of monkeys and birds. I understand it's best to come during the dry season, February through April, when one could see animals 100s of meters away. Still, we had a good time at the pool. It's so refreshing to swim in a pool of spring water so close to the source of the water, a rock. The only downside is the safari truck. It could be in a better shape. Lots of tsetse fly could be an irritant. Also the safari route need to be repaired, graded, because the truck could easily get stucked there, leaving everyone stranded. The staff, tour guide and safari staff were very knowledgeable about the Reserve and the animals, including identifying different animal footprints, and very nice. Overall, good experience.

Yankari game reserve is the largest reserve in Nigeria and one of the largest in the world, it’s very beautiful but the management is totally condemnable, from poor tour infrastructures to poor security, poor hotel’s management, poor feeding and restaurants, the list goes on… if properly managed it can be one of the biggest tourist attraction in Nigeria. By the way, the wikki warm spring is breathtaking

Very good place to relax and connect with nature. The warm spring is rrally amazing with a constant temperature of 31c, always warm no matter the temperature of the environment. Be careful with tge baboons though, they can attack ladies and young people especially when they see you with food. The rooms need to be nore kempt, and the service is zero.

Place is beautiful with real good sites and accomodation that keeps the touch of nature fresh in your mind, when driving to the park, you have to keep your speed below 30kmph as beautiful wildlife can be seen crossing the park at anytime, good news is that you don't get to see the carnivores around were humans are usually found except if you go for the safari. The WARM spring maintains a constant temperature throughout the day and night both in cold or heat giving it a unique experience with each visit.

The place has seen better days but still a great place to visit. If you love swimming then the wikki warm springs will thrill you with it's constant 31°c temperature 🌑️ year round. If you're a badminton player then there is an annual tournament organised by Multi-purpose Badminton Club Bauchi every December where some of the best veteran players from across the country assemble to relax and enjoy themselves. However, if it is Safari you're interested in then know that you can hardly see any meaningful animals exempt for gorillas that are found even within the premises of the resort hotel rooms.

First time visit! Wikki Warm spring is highlight of visit. Safari/game viewing is a bit of a letdown. Wildlife sighting is not frequent, tells much about the dwindling wildlife population. Poaching is very prevalent in the reserve. 3 poachers caught a day prior to my visit, while a ranger was shot in the process. Rogue gunshots heard during game viewing in a hide. Poacher footprints seen while tracking hippos. Rangers are poorly equipped and remunerated. More needs to be done for them. Restaurant is poorly managed. Meals are not readily available.

Wikki Warm Spring is a natural water body designed as a swimming pool. The source of the water is from beneath a rock which makes it crystal clear. The water is also warm which is always appropriate for swimming all year round.

It’s one of the few places in Nigeria that is just perfect! The water is so beautiful and the space looks great. It could look a lot better if the government was so invested in it but it’s not half bad as it is right now. I had a blast here and hopefully I’ll be back soon.

The open country and villages that surround Yankari National Park are populated by farmers and herders, but there has been no human settlement in the park for over a century. There is, however, evidence of earlier human habitation in the park, including old iron smelting sites and caves. In 1934, the Northern Regional Committee made a recommendation to the Executive Council to establish a pilot game reserve in the Bauchi Emirate. This was supported by Alhaji Muhammadu Ngeleruma, a minister in the former northern Nigeria Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Around this time, he had been impressed by a visit to a Sudanese game reserve while on a trip to East Africa. On returning, he encouraged the moves to establish something similar in Nigeria. In 1956, the Northern Nigeria Government approved the plans for the creation of a Game Preservation area. Yankari was identified as a region in the south of what was then Bauchi Province where large numbers of wild animals existed naturally and could be protected. In 1957 a Game Preservation area was carved out and the area was constituted as a Bauchi Native Authority Forest Reserve.

Yankari National Park is a large wildlife park located in the south-central part of Bauchi State , in northeastern Nigeria . It covers an area of about 2,244 square kilometres (866 sq mi) and is home to several natural warm water springs, as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna. Its location in the heartland of the West African savanna makes it a unique way for tourists and holidaymakers to watch wildlife in its natural habitat. Yankari was originally created as a game reserve in 1956, but later designated Nigeria's biggest national park in 1991. It is the most popular destination for tourists in Nigeria and, as such, plays a crucial role in the development and promotion of tourism and ecotourism in Nigeria. It is also one of the most popular eco-destinations in West Africa . History The open country and villages that surround Yankari National Park are populated by farmers and herders, but there has been no human settlement in the park for over a century. There is, however, evidence of earlier human habitation in the park, including old iron smelting sites and caves. In 1957 a Game Preservation area was carved out and the area was constituted as a Bauchi Native Authority Forest Reserve. Yankari was first opened to the public as a premier game reserve on 1 December 1962. Since then, the Northern Eastern State Government and then the Bauchi State Government both managed the Yankari Game Reserve. The park is now managed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Park Service. In 1991 it officially became a National Park by decree 36 of the National Government.

A great place for a vacation or holiday. The wiki warm spring is something I must talk about as personally, I learnt how to swim there. A 24 hour restaurant is there for your catering needs. The safari is there for you to watch the various animals that roam the reserve and finally a museum with some historic item. The rooms have been renovated and are quite modern.

  • 4/5 The Harmattan S. 3 years ago on Google
It was beautiful and quite serene and swimming in the water was so refreshing. I saw only a few animals during the safari. However, this was a 1 day visit. Next time, I intend to stay for a few days and get the full experience.

  • 3/5 Muhammad A. 2 years ago on Google
Quite serene environment for a get away. However, little or no animals to see. Going for the safari is probably just to see the jungle with lots of tse tse flies and hardly any animals. The natural blue hot spring is a huge attraction.

  • 3/5 Maxwell S. 3 years ago on Google
I've been hearing about this place since I was a kid, it's a nice place to visit. The biggest excitement for me was the wikki warm springs. The price for food was reasonable ,but the food was less than you'd expect from a place of high repute. I didn't get a chance to go into the safari, they had just one vehicle for that and it was already occupied

  • 2/5 Mariam Y. 2 years ago on Google
The place needs a overhaul. Poor maintenance is written almost everywhere. Didn't get to see any other animal asides the monkeys and this was disheartening. The wiki warm spring was the only sight that made the trip worthwhile, the clear turquoise blue water was a sight to behold. It was however crowded so I couldn't fully enjoy the experience of having a dip inside. I believe more efforts need to be geared towards reviving the place.

  • 2/5 Isaac O. 2 years ago on Google
A shadow of what it used to be. After all I've heard about the Yankari Game Reserve, I thought I was in for a swell time. I was disappointed on all fronts. Overpriced rooms with no functional TV, no water heater, no soap and no tissue (till we asked for it), available fridge not working, it was not worth the money at all. We only had light for three hours out of 24 hours. The restaurant is nothing to write home about. If you're lucky, you'll get maybe rice and another swallow, that's all they have. The soup is tasteless and infact, way too expensive. The Safari ride too was messed up. All through the 1 hour ride, we did not see any animal, not to talk of the tsetse fly bites we experienced. Don't even waste your money on it. You'll see more animals in your lodge than you'll see in the wildlife. The only thing I could say I enjoyed was the Wikki Warm Spring... Very nice place to relax with friends. The water was clear and warm. The staff can light up fire to keep you warm after getting out of the water. Another thing that got me fascinated was the different savannah we have in one place: The Sudan Savannah, The Woodland Savannah and the Guinea Savannah. For a town dweller who wants to get close to nature, Yankari Game Reserve is a good place. But don't expect topnotch services. If you're going to visit, make sure you have everything you need with you because you will not be able to get anything there. While the staff are very friendly and welcoming, the management of the place needs a total overhaul. The pricing is too high for such lacklustre services.

  • 3/5 Lengdung T. 2 years ago on Google
What a stunningly beautiful scenery! Yankari Game Reserve (take note of the naming, if you miss it, you may never be able to get there) is a astonishingly beautiful place. The environment is beautiful and the Wikki Warm Spring is a cool relaxing center. There are baboons walking around and playing. The staff were friendly and responsive to our problem. One big challenge was getting to Yankari Game Reserve itself, it was difficult communicating the directions to the people in the main city to the residents. It seemed to be a different world from the world they lived in. The rooms had no electricity, we were clearly told there won't be light unless they turn on the generator. The Tse TSE fly were quite invasive and active. We enjoyed walking through the museum and hearing of historical records. Although, we wanted to stay for some days, we spent just a night, we couldn't imagine staying longer in such a place that was going to disconnect us from the main city. Transportation from the main town to Yankari Game Reserve is quite expensive, so put that in mind.

  • 2/5 Yekeen A. 2 years ago on Google
There is need to provide more 4 wheel drive cars for the safari..I have not had the opportunity of going on the safari ride and possibly see any of the animals even though I have been there twice with my family..πŸ˜”πŸ˜”. The excuse has always been no SUV car on ground, our cars are being repaired etc

  • 1/5 gonam b. 1 year ago on Google
No light, the food is mostly stale, the mosquitoes are deadening. Everything seems almost abandoned. Security is extremely poor it's like every man to himself but the monkeys are beautiful tho badly feed n taken care of n there are much animals self. This is Nigeria tho I didn't expect much. Infact it was even better than what I imagined I was going to expect cos I expected worst than what I even saw. Nigeria needs to do better. Bye

Had an amazing time at the Yankari Game Reserve. Quite some distance from Bauchi where I was visiting. The reserve is home to a diverse range of animal species - elephants, baboons, buffalo, and lions. We had a guided tours in the safari, exploring the vast savannah grasslands and forests, where I got up close and personal with these amazing creatures, felt like Natgeowild Lol, I remember a stubborn money that hijacked the snack of a tourist, such a hilarious moment, lol. And the Wikki warm spring, taking a dip in the refreshing Wikki Warm Springs was quite relaxing. It was just a full day visit for me, but from my inquiry the reserve also offers accommodation options, hostel like room for groups, including lodges and campsites, for visitors who want to extend their stay. Generally I think Yankari Game Reserve is a great destination for anyone looking to experience one of Africa's wildlife and safari for real.
