This museum was surprisingly amazing. It’s tiny but they packed a lot of stuff in it. Tons of history. The second floor was closed so I’m a little bummed to miss it. The staircase was ridiculously gorgeous! You have to check this museum when in the area. I definitely highly recommend this place.

Worth to visit this beautiful museum which is holding historical stuff from all over the world. It’s free and in centre location of Cambridge city. Building itself is a beautiful architecture. Not big as London Museum but still offering a lot from all over the world specially Egyptian, Greek, Roman etc which is spreading different time period.

The entry is free. It was bigger than we thought and when we visited it was around Christmas time and it was much too beautiful. This Museum houses vast collections of antiquities from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, including exhibits of English and European pottery and glass, furniture, clocks, Chinese jades, and ceramics from Japan and Korea. Definitely a must see if you are in Cambridge!

A great museum in the heart of Cambridge. The kids loved it. They got a little activity sheet on the entrance which encouraged them to find some particular items. That kept them busy and happy. The museum is breathtaking and all items presented have a special beauty. The architecture is stunning and you could spend hours looking admire it. Toilets are available on the basement level and on the ground floor there is a shop and cafe. We enjoyed the fact that they have limited availability as in number of persons inside each room. The visit felt free and we enjoyed it better than when it’s overcrowded. We will definitely come back.

A great museum with free entrance, what can be better? Here you can find collections from ancient Egypt, Soudan, India, Greece, Roman Empire, etc. as well as more modern art works from around the world. It's truly amazing that all these things fit in a rather compact museum.

Biggest museum of Cambridge. It has a breathtaking main hall and big art collection. Its big halls are plastered with ultra realistic paintings and marvellous statues. You will find ancient Egyptian tombs, Roman statues, Asian porcelain, medieval armures, Mesopotamian makeshifts, swords, helmets, big portraits, statues and artwork from different civilisations. A must visit if coming to Cambridge. Entrance is free of charge but you must book your ticket online.

A stunning place and a must visit in Cambridge! It really reminds me of the V&A in London. There’s no parking really near by, so prepare for a little walk. The cafe was busy when we were there and so were the locker rooms. We stayed here for almost two hours and it was tiring (with a 5 year old) he enjoyed the first exhibit with guns and swords most. It also made for the perfect introduction to museums.

The Fitzwilliam Museum is a lovely 😍 museum, I have not been to a museum in a long while and this was just a great treat and surprising really good, they have so much cultural artifact which I was so thrilled to see, if you enjoy museum thin this is a must visit and if you enjoy history and culture you will surely enjoy this. I have given this 5/5 I did not expect much and was rewarded for my patience and willingness to go to the museum 🖼️🎨.

Nice Museum to visit, my son wanted to see the Egyptian items. You could spend a couple of hours walking around looking at the interesting artifacts. You have to book your tickets online before you go. Its free to visit or you can make a donation if you like.

Beautiful museum, which is definitely worth a visit! It's free and there are also a gift shop and a cafe. There is a lot to see, so you would need a few hours to see all the galleries. You can see art from all over the world and you can see artefacts from different time periods. There are sections dedicated to Egyptian, Greek and Roman history, just to name a few.

Very nice. Not as big as the British museum in London but that's a good thing since you can really look at the exhibit in depth. I recommend going here if you are in Cambridge.

Been wanting to visit for months now but finally it’s open and I took the opportunity. Visiting has to start by booking via an online system which will provide you with a QR code that needs to be shown when arriving. It works and it’s free. As a museum, it’s well laid out, spacious and has lots of natural light. There’s lots to see and if you really want to take it all in I’d suggest at least setting aside 3 hours. Monet and Picasso are on display so there’s that :)

So much to see here, you can't take it all in with just one visit. The special exhibition "Human Touch" is worthy seeing exploring touch in a variety of contexts including the amorous. In the main exhibition do visit Gallery 3 "The Founders Building" with it's beautiful ceiling and story behind the creation of the museum and collections. There is lift access to all floors, a well stocked museum shop and small caffe as well as toilets and free lockers to store any bags you bring.

This is a great museum if you're an art lover. If you're a more casual art appreciator, it can still be worth a visit if you're in the area. It is free to enter but it is currently required that you book a timed ticket sue to social distance rules. The museum boasts an impressive amount of porcelain pieces as well as a variety of other exhibits such as an Egyptian section and smallish fine art gallery upstairs. There is a cafe and gift shop on sight. The museum is an easy walk from Cambridge city centre and is well served by local buses.

Absoulty brilliant. Spent 3 hours in here and didn't even notice. So much to see. Tickets need to be booked in advance, with no charge. Back packs need to be carried but lockers are available. Toilets and cafe on site. A museum for the older child, lots to talk about. Not sure about parking as we used park n ride and took a leisurely walk.

An impressive art collection including Monet and Picasso. Medieval armour. Beautiful pottery. Stunning architecture. All free. You currently need to book ahead to visit which is straightforward on their website. There is also a good cafe and museum shop. It’s a very impressive building and museum/art gallery which is worth travelling to visit.

Absolutely excellent museum. Came on the bank Holiday to see the Hockney exhibition. It has been spaced out throughout the museum so you get to see more. Really great exhibits on offer and extremely well presented. Free entry, very nice gift shop. Toilets in basement.

One of the must visit places in Cambridge! It is like a small version of the British Museum but less crowded, so you can feel free to explore around and admire all the exhibitions here. Better expected spending 1-2hrs to visit here

One of the best museums in Cambridge. The entrance architecture is stunning as it is inspired by ancient Greek temples. Lots of paintings, historical weapons, statues, and objects. The entrance is free of charge and you get to see a lot of things, a must-stop when visiting Cambridge.

Great museum. Second visit. Plenty to see. Free entry. Shop sells quality items. BEWARE THE CAFE!!!! It's expensive, the drinks and portion sizes are small and "No you can't have an 'extra' pot of hot water for your tea, as it creates extra washing up". What?? Mad! So... just give the cafe a very wide berth.

The museum was stunning with fascinating exhibits. Its aesthetics were simply amazing, and it felt like stepping into another world. However, its small size limited the number of displays and I felt a little bit constrained. It's absolutely worth a visit for its beauty but expect a short tour due to limited content. Watch the ceiling 😍

Exceptional museum - perfect size for a morning / afternoon visit. Works from various famous masters (including multiple paintings from each of Titian, Rubens, Van Dyck, Jan Brueghel the Younger and Canaletto). Also a good impressionists room (mostly Matisse/Cezanne/Renoir). I particularly enjoyed the works by Van Dyck, Canaletto and Renoir. There are also some lovely Degas ballerina sculptures. I didn’t have much time in the Antiquities section but it looked excellent and unusually well curated.

The Fitzwilliam is one of the world's great small museums. A stunning permanent collection and in the Founders Room, a masterpiece of interior architecture and design in its right. Recently restored, the Founders Roonvis worth a visit on its own merits. The collection covers early modern British art, French impressionists, Italian renaissance and so much more. The ceramics galleries covering early Asian to modern European show works of superb skill and beauty. The Korean collection is noteworthy, and, I think, will be a relevation to many. The Fitzwilliam imaginatively showcases modern works within the permanent collection. Its temporary exhibitions are considered and often revelatory. Pre-COVID, its free chamber/solo music concerts on certain Sundays in the Founders Room were a delightful prelude to a latish Sunday lunch. Recently reopened after the COVID lockdown, still free entry but with timed entry, now is a great opportunity to see this small(ish) masterpiece a little quieter than usual.

Excellent free musuem. You have to leave your bags and backpacks in a locker (a token is provided if you don't have any coins.) There are toilets, a gift shop and cafe inside. Besides one very rude member of staff that accused me of touching one of the suits of armour and then decided to change her mind and say she was talking to someone else in my party, it was a pleasant experience. The first few rooms I found a bit humdrum, possibly because it most of the artifacts were from the early 1900s. But the Italian Art section, Egypt, Greece and Rome did not disappoint.

There is a booking system in place but we turned up on Saturday not knowing this. The gate attendant was very nice and helpful and booked us for a slot within half hour so went off for a quick coffee. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout museum and we got to leave our coats and bags in a locker so could roam unhindered. Lifts make the museum accessible. The museum is big so is the kind of place to visit over time though it is easy to wander around if you want to see it all......allow a few hours with a stop in the café (which we did not use). I enjoyed the excellent ancient Egyptian section as well as the ceramics and impressionist paintings. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in Cambridge.

Excellent museum, and it's own architecture is probably the best part of the visit. The original entrance hall is breathtaking. Most interesting area for me was the armoury section. Lots of pottery/ceramics, and art on the first floor.

Loads of rooms were closed. I asked someone and apparently it was because "they didn't have enough staff", which was a real shame. A museum like this should be prepared and have enough people working to have all the rooms open all the time. The building is nice (see photos attached).

A great place of architecture and beautiful artworks collections, in this Museum you can explore a different world history including the Egyptian. Free entry but you need to book a ticket on-line and pay& display parking just outside the museum. The place is worth a visit if you are in Cambridge, also you should not forget the Eco friendly "Cambridge Central Mosque".

This is one of the best museums in the world. As you would expect from the best university in the world. Of course it's not as big as the British Museum or the National Gallery. But it's every bit as important. And I spent 4 hours there, but still felt like I had loads more to see. There's a massive Egypt section. A great Greek and Roman section. And upstairs you have the art galleries. Including Italian Renaissance art, Monet, Lowry, Picasso and Constable, just to name a few. Really recommend you visit this museum. Ps. The restaurant is great. Great food. And great prices. What's not to like. Museum's free to visit too by the way. So what's stopping you?!!!

An enormous range of artworks, some especially famous ones such as Monet's. Great selection of flower still lifes, along with religious artworks. Art is sorted by country of origin. There is a gigantic collection of ceramics, varying in age. The gift shop is large and quite good, there is also a café.

It was such a beautiful experience at the Fitzwilliam Museum. Although most of the art works are appreciated by just viewing and not touching, they’re still worth viewing. The entire museum is really big and the facilities are also good. It’s a very picturesque place, has a disability entrance as well. There’s also a table with supplies to draw and paint. Helpful assistants as well. We appreciated the moment.

Excellent museum. Free entry to permanent exhibitions. Or did I walk in unnoticed? Grand building. Parking nearby not cheap but worth a visit or several. Lots of pottery and trinkets but some great art. Handy cafe. Affable varied staff appear everywhere. Blake exhibition to pay to see at this time. But had to pick up someone at Cambridge North.

One of the best museums in Cambridge if you are on a quick day trip (as ours were unexpected). We entered without a ticket,as it's only until January I guess. The paintings were fascinating. Much to see about Egyptian culture and sculptures. Not sure about the European potteries, didn't feel authentic. PS: do not fell for the shop and cafe, overpriced, you can get most of them around Cambridge City for less

I have been to this museum many times but on Sunday just wanted to do a bit of Xmas shopping in the gift shop. The person on the gate was very pleasant and helpful in spite of the freezing fog. The shop has some lovely things - a bit on the pricey side but presumably the profits go to the museum.

I would highly recommend visiting this place, whilst in Cambridge. We arrived at 15.45, so sadly had to rush our visit. Therefore, I would recommend putting a few hours aside for the museum to allow yourself to leisurely look around and be able to read the interesting facts and information about the pieces. The museum also has a lovely gift shop, cafe and bag lockers, which came in handy.

What a fantastic museum, currently you need to book online but free to enter. A broad range of exhibits ranging from the great masters of art and music to ancient pottery, ceramics, armour and Egyptian artifacts, there are many collections from around the world Cafe on site, there is a lot to keep children entertained such as workshops and events. Well worth a visit even if you need to travel, the entrance is on one of the park and ride carparks.

Another five star review for a museum that is free to the public and open to all. Stunning architecture and a collection to rival some of the London museums, definitely worth the trip

  • 5/5 Ammar A. 2 years ago on Google
Part of the museum is going through maintenance work in January 2022, which is when I visited, which is why I was unable to go through a big chunk of the museum. However, this is a really big museum and requires good time to go through a lot of the sections. I throughly enjoyed walking through various parts of the history of human civilization as well as art pieces from a range of cultures and eras. The entrance is free but a booking is needed to go on the weekends since it’s busier during the weekends. I would highly recommend this museum.

We visited the Fitzwilliam on a Thursday morning, having pre-booked free entry. I've visited many museums but I think this might be one of the most fascinating smaller collections I've seen. In May 2022, they cleverly juxtaposed David Hockney's exhibition pieces alongside permanent and older work that resembled them, it was very well done. Highly recommend when in Cambridge.

The museum is huge and has a lot, a lot of galleries. If you are the type of person who likes to read everything, so you will spend almost 3 days there because you will read a lot. The admission is free but before to enter there you need to book a place there. If you have a backpack, you need to Locke it there (for free) before to enter. The museum is beautiful, nice and worth to see.

This gorgeous museum is a must when I’m Cambridge. We went at the peak of summer and it was still not too crowded nor too hot on the inside. The collection is very nice and well worth the visit and the building itself is a work of art.

Magnificent building and great collections of art and items. I was stunned by the model of a prisoner lying tied up on floor...so realistic. You can walk up for entry but on busy days its best to book online its free entry although they do ask for a donation of £5.

Excellent Cambridge museum. The current exhibition: Islanders The Making of the Mediterranean - which runs until 4 June - is spellbinding. It spans thousands of years, from neolithic Crete to Roman period Sardinia and includes an object that is 9,000 years old. The exhibition is free is free to enter but a ticket is required. The museum's permanent collection is also amazing; I particularly like the ceramic pieces that are on display.

An extraordinary place where you can see many amazing things. Vast collection of paintings, the Impressionists being well represented. Nice display of porcelains, the antiques are always impressive. Breathtaking entrance, friendly staff. The Islanders temporary exhibition- very well structured and highly educational.

I like a venue where you require a map to navigate the place, and this is one of those venues. It has helpful and friendly staff, interesting and informative displays of a really quire varied nature, porcelain, silver, Roman and Egyptian antiquities, weapons and armour and galleries full of some quite exceptional paintings. The building itself is worth visiting just for the interior. We spent a really enjoyable afternoon in this museum and I would recommend it to any visitor to Cambridge who will find something to interest them.

Outstanding- but you have to accept the British are world leaders in culture. They have preserved and protected ancient and rare gifts of our human cultures. Go and be delighted.

Amazing museum with full of interesting exhibitions and a nice gift shop. This museum is smaller, than I expected. However, especially the main hall interior architecture with the glass cupola is really stunning. When I visited during weekday the place wasn’t overcrowded and there is no admission fee.

In the heart of Cambridge City Centre - you can visit the amazing fitzwilliam museum full of culture , knowledge and history. Every year we visit the museum to discover and explore new art work and antiques. You can see everything from Egyptian coffins to Impressionist masterpieces; illuminated manuscripts to Renaissance sculpture; rare coins to Asian arts. The Museum was named in Fitzwilliam's honour and his objects, artworks, books, manuscripts and more became its founding collection.

Great museum! You don't have to go to London or Egypt to see mummy. Open and free, however for temporary exhibitions you need to book entry tickets online. I totally recommend it!

Great museum, really fascinating array of things on display, there's really something for everyone. The building's architecture is also gorgeous and there's a lot to see just by looking up.

The museum is stunning, with classic-style interior architecture. The Middle East section is perfect, showcasing incredible ancient artwork masterpieces. The sculpture by Reza Aramesh is amazing, and at first, it freaked me out because the eyes look so real.
