Another excellent museum with captivating displays. Incredible given it has free entry (had no qualms donating before leaving though). A mix of era’s covered here with a great collection of war memorabilia. Numerous toilets and a cafe attached, could spend a couple of hours here easily.

I truly enjoyed my visit of the museum. The presentation was very well done. I would recommend it to anyone. The added bonus is the top floor at the viewing gallery. You can get a stunning birds-eye view of the city. Free to enter with the optional £5 donation.

Lovely new building, lots of space and a variety of exhibitions. Despite no roof garden, there are great views from the massive windows. Could easily have spent 4 to 5 hours in there exploring everything. And best of all it is free entry so you may as well pay a visit.

This is exactly what I want from a modern museum - large, appealing displays, plenty of interactive elements and things to interest people of all ages. The building itself is impressive and there are fantastic views of the historic Liverpool waterfront. The variety of exhibitions really shows off all of the cultural, historic gems that Liverpool has and gives an insight into what makes this a city with such character and individuality. There are things to entertain children of all ages and plenty of other points of interest within walking distance. Best of all, it's free - amazing!

Lovely museum well worth a donation to visit. The architecture of building is impressive and it fits well on the waterfront. The second floor gives some impressive views of the Liver building and waterfront. Lots of interesting exhibitions and things to see around the museum means there should be something that appeals to everyone.

Overall a solid museum and especially with it being free! Excellent exhibits all around although too many kids for me ha! My caveat is the poor directions to get around exhibits. Case in point: entering the 1st floor one faces the Viking history section… and yet the earliest ancestors history is to the left of that. Why are there no signs indicating to start to the left?? It was like this all over many of the larger exhibit halls.

Visiting Liverpool Museum was an absolute delight! Nestled on Liverpool's bustling waterfront, the museum is a striking blend of modern and historical architecture. It's a warm and inviting space that immediately piqued my curiosity and excitement. As I wandered through the various exhibits, I was struck by the sheer diversity and richness of Liverpool's history and culture. The museum does a fantastic job of weaving together the city's past, present, and future. The collections, ranging from maritime history to social heritage, were not only informative but also deeply moving. The sections detailing Liverpool's role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade were particularly impactful, offering a profound look at this crucial part of history. For someone who loves art, the museum was a treasure trove. It showcased an impressive array of artworks, both classical and contemporary. It's evident that Liverpool is not just steeped in history but is also a vibrant cultural hub. What really made my visit special were the interactive displays. They're fun, engaging, and great for visitors of all ages, making the museum an ideal spot for families. Plus, the staff were simply fantastic – friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to help. Their insights made the exhibits even more fascinating. In short, Liverpool Museum is a gem. It's the perfect place for anyone looking to dive into Liverpool's diverse heritage. Whether you're a history enthusiast, art lover, or just out with the family, the museum has something for everyone. It's definitely a highlight of the city's cultural scene!

I loved the experience here. It's located just next to the dock. Beautiful location overlooking the waters. I particularly recommend the ground floor collection on the dock, trains etc. Very well presented in an engaging manner. The audio visuals are great! And I appreciate the acknowledgement of the role Liverpool played in colonisation and empire.

It's the most beautiful place in Liverpool. If you live on the Mersey side or you are a tourist and you are reading my review, please add the Museum on your to-do list while in Liverpool and thank me later 😊 It is better experienced than told. It was my first time, and it was magical. It is also good for people and families living with dementia to help bring back memories. It's in between Mersey ferries and Albert dock. The Museum speaks to you about a way of life and culture of people from Liverpool

*Great insight into the importance of Liverpool* Fascinating history of Liverpool. Really gives you a sense of the scale of the dockyards - see the overhead railway exhibit on the second floor. Also shows the importance of Liverpool for the UK trading history and development.

This is a fascinating place. It explains the history of Liverpool brilliantly and made for a great day. The place itself is situated right in the heart of Liverpool docks, which is absolutely stunning. I was also thrilled to see that it was free entry, and the staff were polite and gracious. I would definitely come back here.

Nice museum for history lovers, the place takes you in a journey through this city history, it takes almost 2 hours to check it out completely. No entrance fees ( you can donate like 5 pounds for the continuity of this place). Parking avaliable around the area (paid)

A great place for learning about the history of Liverpool and the influential people who were born here. Always a treat to come back, as the exhibits often change. I really enjoy the costumes they display, especially Villanelle's golfing suit, and the wonderous people exhibit constantly surprises me. The whole museum really gives you a better perspective of the influence Liverpool has had on the world.

Little Liverpool toddler sessions. Our 2 year old absolutely loved playing here with the educational and interactive toys. It's free to enter but you need a ticket for the session so they can monitor numbers. Quite on weekday mornings, check session times online. Minature Liverpool Docks with water and boats was great. There's a sensory area for babies to relax and more robust toys and exhibits for toddlers to play with and learn. Brilliant representation of the city in miniature form. The museum itself is excellent too for adults and kids of all ages once you've tired the little ones out.

A modern building right on the water edge, can't speak for parking as arrived by ship, but didn't look good... Found it pretty interesting actually although don't care for the beatles, football or a yellow submarine.. Its free but a donation is very welcome, has a shop and large cafe... Hope Liverpool can really improve the cruise terminal.... I'm on a Royal Caribbean ship which I'd say is the full limit, would be a great UK destination on route to Belfast etc longterm.

Free entry (donation boxes around if you wish to donate). No need to book in advance. A large museum with a lot to see. There are some interactive exhibits, although a few of these were closed. I found it hard to work out where I'd been and where I was going as there's no flow to the layout. Other than that, my adult son and I enjoyed the various exhibits about the various elements of Liverpool's history, transport, music, and much more. We spent about and hour and a half in there but could have spent longer. Accessibility info - lifts, disabled toilets, wide areas for wheelchairs.

Really fantastic museum with a wide range of exhibitions. They’re not afraid to shine a light on the difficulties that the country and city have faced with racial injustice, but at the same time they do a fantastic job of celebrating the city’s incredible work and history. Particularly enjoyed the exhibit on the railways - would recommend!

This modern museum is well worth a visit. The exhibition spaces are light and airy and display cases carefully arranged and informative. There is a wealth of detail on the city starting from prehistoric times right up to present day. Allow about 2 hours for a visit with children. Interactive screens etc are dotted throughout the museum but sadly several were not working on our visit. There is little to keep really young children engaged. There is a good value cafe and lots of toilets available.

The Museum of Liverpool - A beautiful insight into the culture and history of a great city What is the Museum of Liverpool? The Museum of Liverpool is a museum that is located near the Docks that presents and holds a variety of Galleries and Exhibitions for everyone to enjoy including little ones too. What is there to see at The Museum of Liverpool? It comprises of 3 floors. On the Ground floor there is the Reception, the Café and Little Liverpool for kids. The other two floors have a range of displays and Galleries. One is about the military called City Soldiers where they house a number of military uniforms and badges. There ware also some ships and trains too. The top floor is the most enjoyable. It looks at famous actors and actresses from Liverpool. There are some objects from The Beatles including posters and Guitars. The Galleries Visited The Wonderous Place Gallery The Stage and Screen display in this Gallery was interesting and lively. It showcases how Liverpool is a great city for films and TV dramas. It also included a great variety of objects which was enjoyable to look at including the costume from Killing Eve worn by Jodie Comer, the Cilla wig worn by Sheridan Smith and Mel C’s stage outfit from the Spice Girls. The Sport section was brilliant. It was up to date and it was great to see a wide range of objects from different sports including Football, Boxing and also the Grand National. The objects that were great to look at here were the football shirts from Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton. The horsing medals were good too. Liverpool is also known for its gaming industry and there is an area where you can play games too. City Soldiers Gallery The City Soldiers Gallery at this museum tells the story of the King’s Regiment which was in 1685 and Liverpool’s regiment since 1881. This Gallery was interesting and fascinating to see as there was a wide variety of objects including hats and military uniforms that you could try on. There was also a large collection of badges which would tell you the position or rank that it was for. What was good about the Wonderous Place Gallery? There was a great variety of objects including portraits, medals, sculptures, and costumes. It was interactive particularly with the Stage and Screen section. The Sport section uncovered aspects about Football, Boxing and the Grand National with great objects and T-shirts. It was engaging and fun What could have been improved at the Wonderous Place Gallery? It would have been great if there was some background music Some of the descriptions were good but there could have been more details next to the more interesting objects. What was good about the City Soldiers Gallery? It was interesting telling the story about the history of Liverpool. The military uniforms were lovely to look at It was great that there was a large collection of badges to see What could have been improved at the City Soldiers Gallery? It could have been interactive. The descriptions were either brief or lacking so more descriptions are needed next to most objects. Does the Museum have good facilities? Yes, the Museum has a nice Café on the Ground floor that serves hot and cold drinks. They also have a good selection of cakes and sandwiches too. There are also toilets on the Ground floor. Is the Museum accessible? The Museum is accessible. There is a tiny step to enter into the building. There are lifts available to access all floors of the Museum. Do you need to pay to enter? No. It is free to visit the Museum of Liverpool. Is there parking? Yes there is pay and display parking near the Docks. It is paid via an app. If you are a Blue Badge holder then you would still need to pay on the app for a parking space.

A modern museum building with a lot of exhibits. The museum explores the history and culture of Liverpool and its people, including the city's contribution to music, sport, and politics. The museum also features interactive displays, oral histories, and multimedia installations that bring the city's history to life. The museum also has a café and a decent size gift shop, and admission is free.

This is a lovely museum filled with local history and has such a nice chilled out vibe to the place. The place was clean, spacious and packed full of interesting exhibits on display. You get a real sense of the pride of the area and you begin to understand the contribution to the uk that Liverpool and it’s people have made and continue to make. We will be back as we didn’t see everything!

There is a floor that shows how Liverpool has been evolving in UK's history and the importance of Liverpool. There is a room full of entertainment especially about Beatles. At some audio seats and the karaoke room, you can play and listen to music/songs. The museum's location is by the dock side, so before or after visiting the museum you always get a chance to walk along the dock.

An enjoyable couple of hours wandering around this informative museum. We learned a lot about the history of the city and it was fascinating to see archeological artifacts that had been found in the area. The only let down during our visit was the Gents toilets on the ground floor: small, grubby and only 2 urinals, one of which was out of order. Free entry as well. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic museum relating so uniquely to the lives and social history of the people of Liverpool. I couldn't see everything on my first visit, I was so interested in the history of immigration and the variety of cultures and nationalities that have moulded local history and become Liverpudlians themselves. I was fascinated by the history and displays of the Overhead Railway that ran in Liverpool until the 50s. I was also shocked, amazed and had great sympathy for the citizens who lived through the blitz on Liverpool, during WW2. Superb museum, for me one of my favourites in the country.

This is an exceptionally good museum that charts the history of Liverpool. It has a great exhibition on how Liverpool came to be linked with the China. It's a very balanced look at home it benefited from the trading routes with China (and particularly Shanghai), but also some of the worst aspects of it, including racism, the slave trade and the way some Chinese sailors and workers were treated. The temporary exhibition when we went was about the WWII blintz though I have also seen a great LGBT+ exhibition there too. Definately worth visiting Liverpool for this museum even, let alone popping in while you see some of the other excellent museums on the waterfront.

  • 5/5 Nicky O. 4 years ago on Google
Lovely building, great views of the waterfront. Brilliant for both kids and adults. Little Liverpool a great way for very young ones to explore the museum and learn more about the docks. Lots of great informative exhibits about the history of the city, delivered in a very accessible way. The food in the cafe is pretty expensive, however as it benefits the work of the musuem and the museum itself is free to get in, don't suppose you can complain to much.

This is a museum I've often overlooked for the other nearby attractions. This time I thought, why not pop in? I'm glad we did. Lots of Liverpool specific history and knowledge inside. Unfortunately one of the top galleries was not open during our visit but I'll look forward to seeing it next time. Our favourite part was the timeline.

Reasonably fun thing to do and very much appreciated that it was free. Worth a visit to kill an hour ish. Not the best local museum I've been in nor the worst - the indoor false street they'd built was impressive but rather small, the cathedral featured on one of the floors was never actually built. Interesting way to spend some time.

Very good place to visit if you wanna learn about some of the Britain's history. So much knowledge inside to see, can spend the whole day seeing every objects they have. I would to come over and over again because one day visit just wasn't enough. They have children sections too, with interactive play where children can enjoy and study at the same time. A must see place when you visit Liverpool.

A huge building but sadly not a great many exhibits, considering Liverpool is among the greatest cities on earth, has such a rich history and heritage I expected to see a lot lot more. The war years was mainly a gallery of photographs of bombed buildings, but it was still interesting and I hope its 'work in progress' because it has a huge potential to tell visitors sooo much about the city, its birth, growth, demise and rise from the ashes of bombing, depression and riots to yet again become a jewel in our nations crown.

With continuous Seagull squeaking and located just beside Liverpool dockyard this museum is frankly a riveting spot to examine. This is a comparatively new museum that was built in Liverpool according to the documentation. Moreover, you can see the distant sea shore activities from museum windows which is really captivating. After visiting there, I felt some kind of weird notion that it has everything and at the same time almost nothing regarding the local history. Anyway, the artefacts, pictures and sculptures displayed here gives you an essence of city life.

Lots to see over 3 floors. Great if you would like to learn some history of Liverpool. Interesting to look round even for non historians. Great views from the top floor windows.

Very nice museum, quite a lot of history as well as including more recent additions from things related to Liverpool.

This place was great. Well worth spending some hours looking at all the exhibits and learning more about what puts Liverpool on the map. There were lots of hands on exhibits to keep children's interest and pretty incredible to say it was free. On a nice day the whole area is fantastic for a wander about.

Fantastic displays from the past and how Liverpool developed into the city it is. At first glance of the building it was ughhh. Then it grows on you to become ahhhh….when u allow urself to flow with the architectural lines. It’s free entry like most British museums with a donation box for the generous and appreciative public.

Plan o spend atleast 3hours with kids. Well maintained, and people are maintaining social distance during this pandemic time.

Great building but not sure if it is designed abundantly well. I imagine other museums places etc have a lot of other great pieces but some things felt sparse. Where is unless I missed it the Everton/Liverpool story, once great friends now rivals. Interesting pieces throughout but I lost the sense of how Liverpool changed over the years. Go to the recording studio though that was fun.

Nice comprehensive museum on the city. I spent 3 hours here & could easily have spent even longer if I wanted to read everything in depth. Highlights for me were discovering Liverpool once had an overhead railway, the Edwin Lutyens massive RC cathedral that never was & seeing John Lennon’s suit jacket from ‘Help!’

Great museum. It’s the second time I’ve been here and the first time with kids. There are a lot of interactive displays (some broken unfortunately) but the kids seemed to have such a fun and great time here and spent hours looking around. I would say that there is literally something for everyone here whether you are from Liverpool or not. It’s a fascinating and thoroughly well constructed place.

The museum is well worth a visit. However the experience would be much enhanced by better naration and listening booths. It also involves a lot of steps and few resting places for older visitors. It felt a bit empty but it did have a lot on display if you enjoy a lot of reading. An introduction or short starter tour every hour or so would help a lot. Do pay a visit though its is a great museum.

I really like the fact the museum is free but taking donations. I actually visit it more often because of that and end up spending more there than if I had to pay x amount per person ahead. Great place to bring kids, if under 6, check "little liverpool"

The museum if liverpool is a visually pleasing depiction of what makes Liverpool, Liverpool. From the history of the Magnificent Liverpool docks and their part in creating a mega trading hub, to the rich history of liverpool city folk as well as famous pop culture references. Even as a non-local, I found the historical pieces incredibly accurate. Most of the Museum galleries are dimly lit, with quiet commentarys for the various artifacts. I found it very relaxing. What's more, it's free to enter, though donations are welcome. Once your done wandering the museum, there's plenty to see around the docks! All in all, a fantastic day out with family.

I love this museum! Three floors of displays, so many things to view and interact with, displays which can be viewed with all six senses! There are interactive displays, displays you can smell, displays you can feel, displays you can see and hear… and so much more. I’ve been here a few times, multiple times when I was younger and more recently last week when I visited Liverpool for my birthday. This museum is great for all age ranges, the displays never get old! On the top floor there is also a glass window where you can get an amazing view of Liverpool, perfect for tourists - I have attached a picture of this view! Would definitely recommend!

Lovely, big modern space! Visited with my teenage son and found it very well laid out over 3 floors. Very good exhibitions and a super painting on the top floor which from a distance I thought was an aerial photograph, but turns out not to be. Great mobility access with a lift and good toilet access on each floor. The more historical exhibition is on the bottom floor, moving to the more modern exhibitions the further up you got. There's also a small shop as you enter the museum. Entry is free, but donations are greatly appreciated (signage as you enter).

The museums in Liverpool are free and all are well worth a visit, there is a lot of Liverpools history, very modern feel to it and there is always something new to see, there is a souvenir shop and a nice cafe there too, staff are always helpful, lifts and excellent toilet facilities, highly recommend

Interesting place to visit though the inside is quite small in my opinion given how big the building is

Wonderful place to visit. Totally free & educational. Accessible toilets & lifts. Cafe on site. Parking terrible. We parked at Albert Dock & walked over. Lots to see & do nearby also!

Good museum especially since it's free. The history of Liverpool is cool and it really shows you stuff you wouldn't have learned otherwise. Three floors. Although the 2nd floor is somewhat repetitive of the first. The electronics stuff doesn't work which was disappointing for my son.

Staff at the Museum of Liverpool were all too happy to come to my assistance when I called the museum to enquire about purchasing a gift. The building itself is iconic and contributes to the character of the world famous skyline. The museum is focused on the more modern aspects of Liverpool life and the cultural history of the city. Although I didn’t have time to look around on this occasion, I signed up to be a member of the museums due to the excellent customer service that I received when I visited to purchase a gift. I can’t wait to come back and learn some more about the history of this famous city.

Free entrance. You can know about the history of overhead railway and the past history of the dock of Liverpool. Also a very good view of the present dock on second floor

Took my two kids (6+10) on a very wet and windy Thursday. We were warmly greeted and given details of what was on each floor and events for the afternoon. I thought we'd maybe be there for 30mins but the kids loved it! Their favourite area was the 'Wonderous Place' filled with all popular culture and technology. The Armory role play performance was great too and educational. A quick drink in the cafe before we headed on our after 3hours! Well worth a visit!

We had zero intentions of visiting a museum - we were looking for a walk along the front to the docks and thought this building was impressive and worth having a look. It has such a great layout, very interactive, bright and airy! Doesn’t feel at all like a museum! We didn’t stay very long but I’m glad we visited!
