Great place to experience Sri Lankan culture. Their new year eve Sri Lankan buffet was great and worth the price. Drinks should be bought separately. Calm ambience with huge trees.

Its a hidden gem in Colombo.. Tasty foods and unbelievable varieties there at the dinner buffet..If you want to entertain your overseas friends, just go Nuga Gama on Mondays or Thursdays because they have a cultural show as well other than traditional music. The musicians also very talented and they usually play songs in many languages. Finally the service received from Dananjaya and Dilruk alomg with the other front line staff members is remarkable. Many thanks to Dananjaya for his recommendations about selecting items and... It is your time to visit and enjoy authentic srilankan dishes at Cinnamon Nuga Gama.

Where I am concerned, and after tasting foods from at least 45 different countries (and counting), there is no match for the vibrant, rich, flavorful, diverse and robust tastes of Sri Lankan cuisine. It is my absolute favorite and I like searching for new dining destinations that offer the same. One golden find is Nuga Gama, a buffet style Sri Lankan food restaurant at the Cinnamon Grand, in Colombo. What makes Nuga Gama unique is that it has a village vibe and an outdoor set up. There are real trees, vegetation as you walk in. Seating is in the middle amongst these beautiful nature rich surroundings. Or you can sit on the periphery, at well appointed tables (and when it rains). There is live, mellow Sri Lankan music to relax the senses. There are almost 100 different items spread over several well staffed stations. Hoppers are made fresh, and I started with the beet root hopper and requested for them to add an egg to it. The lightly colored maroon hopper does not taste like beets, but enhances the optics. I had two of these and they were prepared perfectly. I filled my plate with a little bit of different foods 3 times. Here is a sample of what I tasted (and you can see it all in my pictures): Egg roti bites, breaded and fried halmasso (sprats, fantastic), garlic pickle (a first for me, not over powering at all), pol sambol, katta sambol, seeni sambol (superb), kochchi sambol (a first for me), chicken curry, tempered beans, red rice, parippu (Dahl), kadala (garbanzo beans), 2 types of vadais and sting hopper biriyani. For dessert, I had the chocolate biscuit pudding. Unfortunately, no texture or layered mouthfeel. Seems they oversoaked the Marie biscuits. It tasted and textured more like a mousse. Finally, papaya slices, they melted in your mouth. Service was exceptional. I was so impressed, that I personally complimented both the Head Chef and the Executive Chef. They often joined me during my food selections, helping me to choose and even came to my table to make sure everything was okay. Overall, an amazing, one of a kind experience, in an unparalleled environment. A never to forget evening and an absolute treat to all the culinary senses.

Brilliant culinary experience of Sri Lankan foods. Restaurant itself was a beautifully set under the banyan tree, which gave the authentic vibes of traditional sri lakan village. Atmosphere was great with sri lankan live music. Food was great. Great selection of foods and desserts. It was our first dinner in sri lanka, and what a treat it was? Staffs were very kind and friendly. My wife even had a chance to learn with chef on how to make sambal. it was great experience.

Nice place to get a real sri lankan exposure. Designed as an old village. You can find all sorts of sri lankan cruisings just the way you like it. I loved the pork black curry. Dessert options are also so sri lankan starting from a curd station with all sri lankan fruits. They play music in the area and if you want you can wash your hand and enjoy the real sri lankan dining style. It doesnt feel like colombo at all, very calming envioronment. Since it is outside dining if it rains it creates a mess

Well, this place is a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect to find such a place in the heart of Colombo. The atmosphere is truly delightful and exudes that distinctive Sri Lankan village vibe. The food is both great and tasty, and the staff is very supportive.

One of the best place to try Sri Lankan meals. I am pure vegetarian and I got lot of options to try here. Pros: 1) Ambience: Resembles a village and it has a 200 year old Banyan Tree around which dinner tables are arranged. We will forget soon that we are in a 5 star hotel. 2) Food options: It is a buffet and also for vegetarian, they had many options. Food is arranged in three huts. First one has a live counter for Hoppers with various options and curries. Second one has main course meals. Lot of curry and rice options. Third one is for dessert and one should try the native sweets (like Halapa). Drinks can be ordered to the table. My friends tried Toddy and it was good. I tried Home made Ginger drink. 3) Live Orchestra: Plays Sinhalese music and also some Indian music was played, maybe they would have seen some Indians in the guests. Cons: It was a very humid day, so can feel hot and humid sometimes. But, for the natural experience it offers, this can be tolerated :)

Nuga Gama is a Sri Lankan cuisine restaurant at Cinnamon Grand, a star hotel situated in Colombo 03. It serves Sri Lankan cuisine and is designed and decorated to depict a typical Sri Lankan village environment. It is a popular restaurant among locals and tourists due to its traditional Sri Lankan flavor. The restaurant is set around a 200 year-old banyan tree. The best place to have our own traditional food. The view of the place suits best for their food too bcuz the traditional look of that place very well suits the traditional food there. Highly recommended!!!

One of the best SriLankan style restaurant. This is in cinnamon grand hotel which is one of the main 5 star hotels in SriLanka. The special thing about the restaurant is we can have the food out door. And the food dishes will be clay pots and clay dishes. Very nice environment. They also play music to cheer people. Only disadvantage is if it’s rainy then they ll have inside only. Pre booking is better here too. I would recommend this for SriLankan food lovers.

This is the Sri Lankan Restaurant at Cinnamon Grand. The place is set up as a village with the theme Back to our Roots. The restaurant is in an open area with the center being a 200 year old banyan tree. The food is good however not as spicy as you would expect Sri Lankan food to be. The Hoppers were good and they had a good range of Sri Lankan sweets. The spread was not so vast but had all the elements of Sri Lankan cuisine. Overall an excellent place with a wonderful atmosphere.

The best place in town to try Sri Lankan cuisine. Great ambiance. Food was so delicious. Their milk hoppers is a must try. Ghee rice along with several Sri Lankan curries was exceptional. A must try place in Colombo if you are fond of Sri Lankan food.

Visited Nuga Gama with my family on 31st March 2022 for the dinner buffet. Beautiful open place under a huge Nuga tree with clay huts, dim lights and a cozy ambiance. We went on a Thursday and an oriental band was playing. Spread was ok. Cant say its splendid but good value for money. There were a good variety of Sri Lankan mains and desserts. There was one action center for hoppers. Since its an open environment might get muddy on rainy days. Overall the place is well recommended for those who love SriLankan food and who are seeking for a cozy homely meal.

This is one place you can take your foreign friends who don't like spicy food, to try out Sri Lankan food like Rice and curry, Hoppers, Pittu and Pol roti. They even had a dish served with chicken kothu. Tea or coffee is served typically village style with juggery. However, we can request them to add sugar. Genuine Sri Lankan live music village style was available. At other times recordings of Sinhalese songs of yore by well known singers were played. Foreigners will be disappointed if they expected to listen to the typical koththu taka taka music. The hotel has ceased to provide that facility due to complaints from foreigners residing in the Hotel. I was very disappointed that even after independence, local people were allowing tourists and foreign guests to dictate how we can cook our food. The rice and curry was cooked and served village style. All the food varieties are available as a buffet including our very own sweet meats like kavum, kokis, athiraha, pani valalu, dodol etc. Unfortunately, the genuine Sri Lankan flavours were downgraded as they had heavily toned down the 'spicyness' of the curries to cater to western tourists.

  • 3/5 Nikko 5 years ago on Google
The setting is beautiful. All tables are outside under a huge tree. The food unfortunately is mediocre at most. The quality is not the best. The mutton was extremely tough, the chicken curry was just bones with barely any meat on them. Even the fruit was not juicy and sweet. At some point someone put a kettle on our table without saying a word. Minutes later they took it away. We wonder what that was. You can get much much better food for less than half the price.

Amazing experience with traditional Sri Lankan village in the heart of Colombo. Dinner buffet with very delicious Sri Lanakan cuisine along with live kottu and hoppers station. Good range of food and desserts to eat. Ambiance is so nice and live Sri Lankan music give and additional touche for it. Since it is a buffet it worth for that price. There is a separate drinks menu containing both alcohol and non alcoholic beverages. Highly recommend this place to foreigners who like to experience authentic Sri Lankan food and Sri Lankans who are coming back from overseas for vacation. Staff is friendly and humble. Highly recommend.

If you want to try all of Sri Lankan food in one go, then this is the place. It’s a full buffet of hoppers to curries to pickles to traditional desserts I’ve never encountered all in one place. It’s such a traditional and natural gem in the middle of Colombo. The vegan and vegetarian options are abundant, juices are fresh, cocktails are refreshing and the ambience takes you to Sri Lankan village. It’s easy to feel completely stuffed after trying everything so highly recommend doing a walk or a bit of exercise to do the buffet justice.

Nuga Gama - Cinnamon Grand, Colombo. A rustic haven in the middle of an urban environment, a superb restaurant with delicious traditional Sri Lankan cuisine and a unique village experience. It was a wonderful experience for two diplomats who were looking forward to enjoying the authentic rural taste of Sri Lanka. The service provided to us by the entire staff especially the restaurant manager - Mr. Ashoka Chandanathilaka, the Head Chef - Mr. Sujith Ariyaratne was very friendly, pleasant and very professional. The welcome and service we received was amazing and we will definitely be back. Nuga Gama is a Tipcal Rural Village in Sri Lanka with all you could find in a rural village inside a 5 star hotel in the middle of the Colombo City. You can find all sorts of food and deserts you could find in a tipical village are in Sri Lanka. So its a unique expirence and one of a kind restaurant which you would never find in a city. No only that you could also listen to authentic slow and calming music played by the musicians which will create a party like atmosphere so its happening and you won't feel boring at all. Its literally a 100% village and they serve beer and toddy which will definitely add that missing ingrdiant. Nice Restaurant and friendly and traditionally dressed staff will make the place live. Highly recommended if you want to chill out at night. l

Nuga Gama is one of the finest restaurants in Sri Lanka serving authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. What makes this restaurant stand out from others is the wonderful hospitality extended to customers. The food is absolutely phenomenal and the vast array of dishes available capture every flavor and are representative of truly traditional cuisine. I encourage anyone who would want to have a novel dining experience to dine at Nuga Gama. It truly provides a very organic and bona fide village experience. It’s a spectacular restaurant not only for the quality of food it serves but also for the very homely service. Authentic Sri Lankan food and its a buffet.Great ambiance. Can't believe a huge Nuga tree is there in the heart of colombo. There were couple of tourists with us who went to the restaurant and they were amazed by the place. They said they will stay at Cinnamon grand when they visit Sri Lanka next time because of Nuga gama. Food also tasty. Excellent customer service.

Authentic Sri Lankan experience you can get in the heart of Colombo.  Food was brilliant and amazing staff. Dhananjaya, Ashoka, Wasalage,Keerthi and Krishmal hosted us. The "Hiru" band was just brilliant and entertained the night!
