Wow this place was amazing. Never had such tasty mocktail in my life and the food deserves a couple of Michelin stars; it was crazy delicious & seasoned from heaven. The service was also excellent and they managed to get a table free for us although they were actually fully booked. Luckily for us!

Lovely staff, kept making sure everything was ok. For mains we got a Sirloin steak with chips and prawn skewer, which was really nice! We also got a beef burger which we wasn't a fan of. For starters we got fried plantain which we enjoyed as well. One of the staff members recommended to get the green pepper sauce I think it was called, with the steak which was nice and different. Overall a good selection of different foods.

My family and I were at Gidi Grill, City Quay, Dundee (The Best Restaurant in Dundee) on Sunday 3rd April 2022. We had the best experience ever. The food was, Whao! The best. The Service was Excellent and the Staff were Spot On, courteous and Friendly. I will highly recommend the Restaurant to everyone that wants to have a great time.

1st time visit with 2 friends on a busy Saturday evening, booking advised, we sat outside. Ordered a bottle of wine while we looked at the menu. Ordered calamari rings, jerk bbq pork belly.and hot pepper pot soup as our starters. Mains we had Caesar salad with added chicken. with rustic fries. Ital veg stew, and a meat basket. Our server was a very friendly chatty young man, he assisted us when we had to move inside when the rain started. Finished off our food inside, food was very good and well presented. We njoyed our visit.

Well, I've been to Dundee loads and how I've missed this I don't know! But I'll 110% be going back, very nice atmosphere and decor, staff were very efficient and the food was some of the best food I've eaten in aaaages!!!! Mega well done Chef, presentation was super, food was delicious! I'd recommend the Spicy Mac n Cheese, sweet potato fries were really good too, it was all good!!

My friend and I were up in Dundee for a short sightseeing trip. We loved Gidi Grill! Amazing jerk chicken and pork chop on the bone. Cocktails were also great. Good service and really affordable!

Fabulous meal tonight. Staff absolutely lovely, cheerful, friendly. Great atmosphere background music not intrusive. Can’t wait to go back and try something else on the menu. It’s great to have something different with food of such high quality. Will definitely recommend to friends and family and any other interested person.

First time visiting and was not disappointed. The staff are very welcoming and accomodating. Ordered the tempura for a starter and the pasta for my main, my partner got the same, but with a steak for a main. My food was absolutely delicious. The tempura was very nice and the salsa that came with it was also very good. Frozen mango daiquiri and blueberry mojita for our drinks. Will definitely be back.

Third time here and every time without fail, it’s absolutely delicious. This time we came round at lunch time where it’s two courses for £17.99. I had to start the chicken wings, and for a main chicken thigh suya. It was just the right amount for lunch (although if it was an evening meal I’d have expected more). Consistently when I’ve been here, the thing that stands out the most is how well seasoned and moist the meat is, it’s absolutely incredible. It was also my first time in the new building since they’ve moved and there’s much more space which is nice. Will continue to return here again and again.

We stumbled upon this restaurant while having a coffee in the place next door and what a great,vibrant and cool place it is.The staff were warm,friendly and extremely passionate about the food they serve.We weren't sure about a few dishes on the menu but they were only too happy to help.This is a great place.If you haven't been.....Go

The gidi grill offers up a mixed African/Carribbean influenced menu, resulting in tasty jerk chicken and items you just don't find elsewhere in Dundee... such as plantain. I've included a photo of this most recent meal here, which shows a completely empty plate. This should tell you just how tasty their food is and should explain everything you need to know. The service is very prompt with their carefully planned menu meaning food is very quick coming out. We were done in under an hour for a 2 course meal.

First time in Gidi Grill and we popped in prior to a show at the Caird Hall. It was very busy and we didn’t have a reservation but the friendly staff found us a table quite quickly. Drinks were lovely, a good selection of cocktails and not just your usual 4 or 5. Aperol Spritz was the special and went down a treat. For food a few starters to share and a main between us. The portions were a good, food tasty and served in good time. Given how busy the place was, the staff were excellent and friendly. The perfect place to nip into before a show or for a bite to eat with some friends in a place with a good atmosphere. We’ll certainly be back.

Lovely little place. Good size portions, delicious meals and cocktails, and great staff. My medium rare steak was cooked perfectly. We were lucky to get a table straight away on a Saturday night so I would book to avoid disappointment. Will definitely be back.

This is one of my new favorite places!!! The veggie burger is amazing and the plantains are fantastic. The staff here are wonderful and the entire restaurant is clean and inviting. I can't wait to eat here again.

A little gem of a place you would be hard pushed to stumble upon because it's down by the kids inflatable water obstacle course thing. The food is great though and the folk running it are chatty and relaxed even when it's mobbed. Which is most of the time.

Took our two small children and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating with the kids, and helped create a relaxed atmosphere. The food was fantastic, and different to a lot of things we can get anywhere else. Order the jerk chicken, the other food is great, but the jerk chicken is better. Highly recommended and absolutely worth a look if you're ever in the area. We're already looking forward to our next visit when we go back to Dundee.

We booked a table at Gidi Grill recently and had a generally lovely experience. My wife ordered the prawn starter and the sirloin steak with burger sauce, whereas I opted for the lamb starter, and a rump steak, with jerk sauce and my 3yr old son had fish goujons with french fries. I was undecided between their green chilli sauce and their jerk sauce, so when I asked for a small taster, they happily obliged in order to help me decide. The starters were absolutely impeccable... and they were presented well on their respective plates. The prawns were just right - not overcooked and 'rubbery' - and the lamb starter was flawless. They arrived in a timely manner within 10-15 minutes, and were devoured so quickly that I didnt have a chance to take a photograph of them. My son loved his fish goujons and fries too, which were conveniently served alongside our starters. My wife's steak arrived as requested - well done - and although I requested mine to be medium, it was more of a medium rare. I raised this politely with the waiting staff, and they were happy to oblige, returning my now medium steak to me within a few minutes. An overall very fine dining experience was had by all, albeit with a few minor niggles. When we arrived, i felt we could have been seated, a tad sooner as I did see 2-3 staff lingering around the front seemingly unoccupied. And, although we had finished our starters before the main course was ready, it was served before the plates and cutlery from the starters were removed, causing alot of congestion on the table. Usually the mains are served once the table has been completely cleared of the previous course. And finally when we requested another drink (a coke) our waiter went to order it and seemed to start doing other things (clearing tables etc). After 5 minutes (which felt like 15 because i was really thirsty and had already finished my first drink) i asked him again, only to be told it was on it's way, after which it did arrive after a couple of minutes. But as I said earlier, these issues were minor, and if they were not a part of my experience, Gidi Grill would recieve 5/5 starts from me, however I feel that, although 4 stars give an accurate reflection of my experience, I would have given 4.5/5 if that were possible. All in all, our food was absolutely delicious! If i could give it a standing ovation, I would. It was worth every penny, and we'd highly recommend their steaks as well as their prawn and lamb starters. We'll definitely be back to check out the rest of their menu.

Everything so tasty and spicy.spicy chicken wings and plantain appetizers ,steaks with choices of sauce , the jerk sauce was the best. Delicious grilled sea bass with the star of my dish ..the sauteed peppers ,greens and green beans. So tasty.

Dined here as part of a retirement lunch celebration. The staff were all lovely and couldnt do enough to help. The owner also visited our table and was extremely focused on getting our group photograph just right! We submitted an order in advance which was double checked on arrival and our meals arrived very quickly thereafter. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything they received and there were absolutely no issues raised. I had the meat basket meal and it was absolutely amazing! I had it with a jerk sauce and skinny fries! The basket was a bit of a pain so next time, I would ask for it to be served on a plate, but this didn't in any way detract from a most enjoyable dining experience! The steak was served perfectly cooked exactly to my preference, and the meal was extremely filling! I would very much recommend this establishment and suggest you give it a try as I very much doubt you will be disappointed!

We went here for the first time in early August having been recommended it by a friend. We had a look at the drinks list first and seen there was a very poor selection. No flavoured ciders, no Edinburgh gin but they did have our favourite white zinfandel wine however it's not available by the glass. A bottle costs £22, which is extremely expensive! I settled for a glass of red, which was actually warm rather than room temperature so I had to cool it down with ice. The food menu is very limited. We ordered a dish which was a mix of items: poussin, steak, chop, sausage, red coleslaw and skinny chips and shared it. We got an extra side of onion rings, which were a bit on the greasy side and unfortunately my friend found a hair in her chicken. The food was tasty though and well presented. My friend ordered the rum cake afterwards with a latte and really enjoyed it. There are only two toilets in the restaurant: a shared one for men and women, which doesn't lock properly, and a disabled one which I had to use. The staff are very helpful and friendly, particularly the short young lad who is very knowledge about the menu, let us try one of the sauces before we ordered it and who seems to genuinely enjoy his job. Sadly there is no WiFi, the background music was very "jazzy" and a bit loud for my taste but the decor is very nice and the place has a good atmosphere.

What a great place to eat! The Gidi Grill was reassuringly busy when we arrived. Despite this, it only took a few moments before the friendly and welcoming staff had found us a space and were ready to take our order. The food was fantastic, my seafood dish was cooked perfectly with a kick of spice without it being overpowering. The menu has a nice variety of dishes which were competitively priced. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. Despite it being a relatively compact space you dont feel crowded. Hoping to make a return visit soon!

Second visit to Gidi Grill and never fails to disappoint! Food is outstanding! Service can't be faulted. You can tell a lot of pride is poured into this place. Can't wait to return

Can’t review the food as we received such horrible service on the phone we will not be putting any money in the til of this business. After phoning multiply times trying to book a table we were greeted with “what do you want?” When the phone was answered. I want better service and a less snidey unprofessional way of answering the phone. Poor.

I’d have to give this a single star and if I could go less I’d probably consider it. The prices are daylight extortion for just average quality food. £8 for three prawns! THREE PRAWNS. Even with the eat out to help out discount I still left feeling dissatisfied. The owner claimed he was the mastermind behind the name “Rasta Pasta”. I guess he’s claiming to be the brilliant mind behind an old school cultural classic. Slight improvements required and this place could be the solution for the exact cuisine Dundee is missing.

We had the Rasta Pasta with chicken when we visited the restaurant on 15th February 2020. It was excellent. Great flavours, good portion and friendly staff. If we're in the area again we'll definitely go back.

I know you can’t expect 100% service every time. Before I start a rant - amazing food but this was my 3rd time to the Gidi Grill - always amazing food but this was the first time with my partner who I made come as I’d raved about it so much. Booked table for 630 and were told they needed it back by 8 so we made sure we were there early. 15 mins early and told table wasn’t ready - so we had a seat and proceeded to see two couples come in just after us and be seated instantly - spoke to staff who apologised but this was clearly a managerial problem as they had no professional way to allocate tables. This was then rectified after complaining and we were shown to a table. I then went to the toilet which had no toilet roll and had to notify staff. Finally when meal came, I asked for vinegar to be told they’d ran out. For two vinegar lovers that wasn’t a highlight of a nice meal and had we known that before hand we would of had potatoes or rice instead of chips. Still a lovely meal but not the same standard of service I had had on the previous 2 occasions.

Fantastic wee place. We were served quickly, the menu has a great selection of grilled meats, seafood options and burgers. It's big enough to ensure variety but not overwhelming. The food was well cooked, piping hot and the flavours were brilliant. Between the charcoal cooking method and the seasoning they have something special here.

Here in Dundee working in the port. Passed by on my way to the hotel and the aroma pulled me. The place was full of people and my party of 1 had to wait 10 minutes for a table . Had ribs and prawns and extra prawns. Everything was delicious. The manager and owner stopped by my table to ask how everything was. That extra customer service was very appreciated. Try this place! I have, and will, be back again!

Food & cocktails are amazing me & a friend got the gidi grill bad boy hotdog and I can honestly say it was the best hot dog i have ever eaten, the daiquiri's were really nice aswell & to top it all off we got 50% of the food with the eat out scheme. Staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you, will definitely be back & will be recommending them to friends & family.

First time visiting Gidi Grill with friend. For starter had tempura vegetables. YUMMMMM i would eat those all day every day. Was thinking to ask chef how he cooked them 🤣and for main grilled chicken cesar salad. Very big portion and I loved chicken grilled flavour. Definitely would go back. 5stars. Thanks Gidi grill.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there. The suya and prawn starters were perfect, the fish peppersoup was authentic with it's own spin. The food in general was great (and I'm fussy about afro food). The drinks were limited but good (Gulder and odeku are subject to availability - if you know, you know). The owners were amazing and the staff were great. It was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Hi, I was here looking for a Dinner after a long travelday. Nice Restaurant, good music, very warmly welcome. But: The ordered Beer was not available anymore.... The Rumpsteak was definitly a piece of flank or brisket, means trashy. Absolutely a NoGo. However the taste was delicious because of the Jerk-Sauce. Too expensive: 30GBP? No comments anymore.....

Visited this restaurant yesterday whilst in Dundee from Glasgow, absolutely gutted there isnt an equivalent back home. Staff were very attentive with fast service, the decor is fresh and modern whilst keeping the traditional culture. Atmosphere is lovely with reggae music playing throughout our meal; which in itself was gorgeous food! Perfectly cooked and balanced flavours with a hidden spicy kick. Definetely will be back next time we visit the city!

Afro-Caribbean fusion with other influences, top sauces/seasonings and ingredients. We had chicken breast, fish basket, ribs - all great with lovely sides...

I love this place!!! Came here for a friends party and was so impressed they had our party of 50! And turns out another party elsewhere, the food all came out together it was really lovely, I had jerk chicken and cheese cake for a pudding and it was good lots of flavour. I had a few sneaky cocktails as well which were refreshing and a bit unusual; anything that comes in a martini glass and had elderflower notes has me!!! I was also impressed with the staff they kept the cool with so many orders at the same time, they were great fun and joining in the celebratory atmosphere! The manager (maybe owner) came over to say hello to everyone. Just a really good solid night. Thank you!!!! I wish I had photos but it was such a fun night I never took any!!

The hake was delicious. Great for family dining and to get a hint of that home Caribbean cuisine. Bit pricey but worth the lovely meal.

The food is impeccable and the staff was super sweet too. The jollof rice was amazing and the service was really fast too! Will surely recommend it for authentic Nigerian food!

This place hits the spot , service , food , cocktails all fantastic . The atmosphere is laid back but you do not wait long for anything . We had the Nachos topped with beef chilli and chicken ... Superb ! The waiting staff were lovely , the manager wished all tables a Merry Christmas as he walked round a really nice touch . Looking forward to visiting again .
