Excellent Düsseldorf art gallery in a brilliant building. We went primarily to see the Jenny Holzer exhibition which was outstanding. But there was lots of other very interesting work there. Plus of course the public wandering around on nets 4 stories up!!

Too many audio and video exibits which I personally wouldn't sit and watch for hours. Don't be weirded out by the staff, they walk with you and watch you closely. If you do visit, get a combined ticket with K20 ymto get better value.

(Translated by Google) The museum is housed in a very beautiful building on the Schwanenspiegel and mainly exhibits installations of contemporary art. It is a very interesting and versatile museum in the heart of Düsseldorf. There are exhibitions of contemporary art at different times. I always like to visit an exhibition there if my time allows.

(Translated by Google) As is well known, art can be argued ... here there is plenty of space to display art objects, free cloakroom etc. worth a visit.

Very few pieces on display and hard to understand the ones were displayed. Not to mention some rooms are closed due to renovations… considering the entrance price.. not worth the money, the only ‘worth’ the view was the 4th floor. The surroundings (outside) are worth to take a look though, like for a stroll on a sunny day (which is free haha). Such a waste of this building..

Today I randomly decided to visit Kunstsammlung as a tourist from San Francisco, but my order is wrong, I recommend you reverse my order. First of all I have to say, 4th floor already blow my mind, I imagine buy a drink, and take my wine glasses walk all over the museum. But as a tourist from San Francisco I indeed don't know the law regulations more than you do. Just a suggestions, I think you can bring more hip people here, starting from one day only every week. I visited the museum with a bit serious mood, because there are so many staff watching us, and it's modern art, I was here because of the buildings and the architecture, I don't consider myself understanding art that much. So here is my suggestion, go to 1st floor cafe Lemonpie first, get a glass of Riesling and an apple pie ( this is really great combination) and make yourself a bit tipsy later you starting the museum tour with even better mood. I guarantee you will have a 5 stars review if you do this order.

Amazing building with impressive design. Happy to see Issac Julien collection. Roof top trip was fun and not too crowded on a weekend! Would definitely visit again for other exhibitions in future!

Unfortunately very disappointing collection (perhaps just unlucky with the ones during our visit). Net-climbing that you can see on the photos is for extra price. In my opinion K20 is much more interesting and solid.

Love the exhibition „in orbit“. Sadly the 1st and 2nd floor where closed but I bet the experience would be even better when there are more exhibitions to take a look at!

(Translated by Google) Interesting exhibit, but terrible exhibit staff. Super unfriendly and as soon as you enter every room you have the feeling of doing something wrong. The interaction among the employees also seemed to be very distant and unfriendly. All in all, a very toxic atmosphere in a nice museum. (Original) Interessante Ausstellung, allerdings schreckliches Ausstellungspersonal.

I am happy to help you write a review for a modern gallery. Here's a sample review: The modern gallery I visited was a breathtaking experience. As soon as I walked in, I was struck by the stunning works of art on display. The gallery had a great collection of contemporary art, featuring some of the most talented artists of our time. The space itself was clean, well-lit, and spacious, which allowed me to fully appreciate each piece of art. The gallery staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and they were happy to answer any questions I had about the art on display. The variety of artworks on display was impressive, ranging from paintings to sculptures and installations. Each piece of art had its own unique style and message, which made for a thought-provoking and inspiring experience. What I appreciated most about this modern gallery was its commitment to showcasing diverse and innovative artists. The gallery was not afraid to take risks with its art choices, and it paid off in creating a dynamic and engaging exhibition. Overall, I highly recommend this modern gallery to anyone looking for a unique and memorable art experience. The quality and diversity of the art on display, combined with the welcoming and knowledgeable staff, made for a truly exceptional visit.

We wanted to visit the museum because of interactive exhibitions - especially climbing to the “in orbit” installation seemed very interesting. Unfortunately almost half of the exhibitions were closed. We couldn’t visit augmented reality room and U-floor. We could see “In orbit” but it wasn’t possible to climb. “free the air” was also unavailable.

A visit to k21 is definitely worth it, especially for the exhibition on the top floor. The museum offers a diverse and thought-provoking collection of art that will captivate and inspire you. The exhibition on the top floor is particularly noteworthy, showcasing incredible pieces that push the boundaries of artistic expression.

There's little to say about the museum. The aesthetics of the place are nice, the rooms are well sized which makes the works accessible. The collection is interesting and has some nice pictures, sculptures and other works. We were there at a quiet afternoon and were helped quite enthusiastically by the register in purchasing a ticket. On the other hand, I read a lot of reviews that complain about the staff, that they are unfriendly and strict. But I think it's all part of the experience. They guide you through the museum like they're driving a herd of cows. If you hang around a little you get stares. All they're telling you is: 'why are you hanging around here, there's nothing interesting to see.' One time we were felt followed by two of the staff. Its this kind of intimidation that's leaves a sour taste. When I come to a place where all the staff behaves like that, I begin to question the behaviour and attitude of the supervisor and management. It felt like there was a strict culture and the staff were not enjoying their work. This translates into the experience of the visitor. It not only makes you appreciate the art less, but it doesn't give you the headspace to let the work be meaningful. It makes it a draining and forgettable experience. This 5-star rating is to show that it has potential with the right mindset and expectations.

K21 is a nice museum situated in a beautiful hystorical building. With our group we had a (Dutch) tourguide, who was very patient with us. She took the time the explain several art pieces. At the end of the tour we got to experience the artpiece 'In Orbit' by Tomás Saraceno. The fact that you're walking 25 to 28m above the ground is really incredible. If you are in Düsseldorf this is a must do!

Visited here and saw an exhibition, the building itself is amazing as is the art content inside. It cost around €14 to visit the exhibition. Well worth it though. There is a cloakroom to drop you stuff at while you meander about. On the top floor there netting suspended over the open atrium which you can go and climb on for a vertigo inducing activity. Overall, really glad I took the time to go there.

The net-climbing was the highlight of the museum for me. The entrance to the net is quite steep, which makes it a little scary. The embroidered tapestries were interesting to see.

The building is really nice. The collection was not my type... Anyway if you have some time...

  • 4/5 Luis P. 4 years ago on Google
The exhibits made you question contemporary art. A lot of is is an assembly of disparate objects. The best part of the Wei Wei exhibition was actually the port hole into the lake which had nothing to do with his work. The Thomas Sarraceno installation was interesting, but again one is left to wonder is it art? The staff struggled to speak English and one of the security guards was quite aggressive, though the others were quite bemused by the exhibits themselves. The cafe is a really nice place to have a hote chocolate after so much questioning about the meaning of art. A real hot chocolate with no added sugar. The staff were also very pleasant.

A well-balanced variety of selected pieces, both more modern interactive and technical pieces to more traditional expressions such as paintings and photography. Perfect for a rainy day! It would have been 5 stars if it wasn't for the half-cold and blunt Quiche Lorraine served in the restaurant.

very nice and interesting museum but very bad organisation to go in Tomas Saraceno. We had to wait more than one hour !! It’s a pitty because good management can resolve the problem.

  • 3/5 Omi 1 year ago on Google
The place was entertaining enough if you're looking to pass some time. STAFF WAS WEIRD: - When purchasing my entry ticket the receptionist asked me if I was a student. I happily replied yes and showed him my university card. He kept asking me questions if this is a valid card, and if I was a legit student. He asked for my ID to confirm that this card belonged to me. He went to uncomfortable lengths. Dealing with him was such an unpleasant experience. I wonder if they do this to all of their clients or only because I looked a certain way? - Everywhere you go there is always a security following you. I don't know if its their policy or I looked sketchy to them? In summary, they will make you feel very unwelcome, but the collection of art there is interesting but not plentiful.

Just for the "In Orbit" experience alone, I give this museum five stars; modern art museum with exhibits that frequently change. Obviously depending on the exhibit, the museum can be hit-or-miss. However, In Orbit is always there, and such an amazing experience—I highly recommend going on a week day, where it is most likely to be empty. I got to go on the entire thing by myself, and it was exhilarating!!

There are 2 museums: K20 and K21. K21 is more fun and innovative art museum. It consists of amazing architecture and modern contemporary art too. The section "orbit" is amazing. You get to experience high altitude walking inside a building. While K20 is more serious art. Meaning "art" art. It's for the thinkers and the real artists. Both are worth a visit. If you're a student you've 50 percent offer in entry. For both museums combined, it'd be 9 Euros.

(Translated by Google) I particularly like the architecture of the building. From the outside, it looks more like an old house, dark and quirky. A beautiful small lake or pond with old trees is in front of the museum and invites you to linger. Depending on the weather conditions, the building becomes dark or old and impressive. The coolest thing is when you go in and you stand in a huge "hall". Everything is open and bright. MEGA. The roof is a glass dome and provides great light. I personally like the view. The staff is very helpful and friendly and answer all questions. The exhibitions are changing and a matter of taste. The orbit is currently blocked (Covid19).

(Translated by Google) 4 stars because: I was standing in front of the building on a city tour, we weren't there. the forecourt with the big fountain is great, there is a lot to discover and the building has the 2nd largest glass dome.

Currently the climbing exhibit at the top of the museum is closed, and I was also surprised to be told off by a security guard for following what looked like instructions to engage with a particular exhibit (the dark pool). This was nevertheless an interesting experience.
