Beautiful collection of art! I was surprised to see French Impressionism artists there like the painting of Renoir. Overall it is a spectacular building with an elegant design. The collection is well chosen that shows the local development of culture in Charleston and the United States. It was very insightful to check out all the nobility’s family portress from back in the days. I strongly recommend this place as sightseeing for traveling and visiting for new citizens like me. Loved it!

For a large city such as Charleston, this museum has some high quality exhibits, but it is smaller than what I expected for this city. However, it is well curated with interesting classic works, modern works and art from eras in between. We were lucky enough to catch the exhibit on Japanese woodblock prints and the associated American interpretation of Japanese art. Felt comfortable in the museum as it was not crowded even in the middle of the afternoon on a hot day. Very nice museum store as well. Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in art.

The museum was great. The rotunda dome was an unexpected surprise. The impressionist exhibit was great. It was interesting to view journals alongside portraits. There was a nice mix of history to accompany the art. Top floor is currently between exhibitions so we missed out. The garden was relaxing and sunny.

This place is spectacular! We came on a Tuesday morning and it was perfect. There were a few tours and visitors, but it was quiet enough to enjoy. We came specifically for a couple of the temporary exhibits, but we were also amazed by the permanent collection! The building is beautiful as well. Overall, we were very impressed by everything and we’ll definitely be back.

Didn't know Charleston had a Renaissance. Beautiful art pieces. Worth the $12.

I went here first before all the tourist stuff around the historic district It was beautiful, and if your into art, its a great way to get grounded in beauty before experiencing the amazing historic district of Charleston. If you are looking for some “famous” art piece, you will not find it here. Because the only thing that makes a piece “famous” is… well you know, press. Throughly enjoyed this museum! Ahhhhhh. beauty.

Really a jewel. Our visit made us aware of some regional artists we weren't familiar with, and stimulated some good discussion about their works. It's an immaculate little collection that feels very awake, very alive.

A great spot to visit in Charleston — the entire collection is stunning, and to see the Veiled Lady in person took my breath away. Plan to spend a few hours to soak in everything on display, and don’t forget the gift shop!

Had an amazing time here with my family. Beautiful art and architecture. Bathrooms were well kept and accessible. There is an entry fee, less than $15 per person. Highly recommend

Good museum. Restaurants around this museum were good too.

Incredibly moving experience. The raw humanity in the art and horrors of our past. Terrible and beautiful at the same time. We have so much to be thankful for. I left heartbroken and inspired at the same time. I didn't know exactly what to expect before I walked in. I left more human.

We photographed a wedding here recently and it was absolutely stunning! Such a great venue with beautiful options for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and right in the heart of the city.

Loved my experience here. I went with my partner on a Wednesday afternoon. The receptionist at the front was super friendly and knowledgeable about the installations as well as the artists. Highly recommend giving this place a visit!

The Gibbes is a special venue and adds another element to the day of your wedding! Everything leading up to the day and after went super smoothly and Addy was able to help with all of our questions! We had an unforgettable wedding at an unforgettable venue!

Lovely building, not a lot of art, some interesting local pieces that date back into the 1800's or further, some more modern local art work also.

Loved the Romare Bearden exhibition (temporary) and the local artist who was on view in the first floor gallery. Some nicely curated contemporary work in the collection galleries. Such nice service at the front desk. Overall a great stop on a rainy day as a tourist in Charleston.
