Great exhibits and off the beaten path. No charge, just donations so come with some cash. I don't like the idea that you can't walk through the museum by yourself. Not sure how often a tour starts, but I didn't wait long. Overall, a great experience.

Wonderful FREE African Art exhibit in downtown Savanah. Beautiful artwork , ancient statues, headdress and clothing represting Niger and parts of West Africa. There is a tour guide (Robin) who was extremely knowledgeable with the pieces from the different Tribes and Era. They have added a new exhibit on hair and braids!!! Awesome!!! A must see when visiting Savanah!!!

This is a must visit for lovers of African art. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and was very impressed with the knowledge of our docent, Mr Ari. He took the time to explain the art to the group, and he answered questions in a confident manner. The museum has so many pieces, one could spend hours viewing the artwork, which is located on both floors of the museum . Mr. Ari is wonderful and certainly a remarkable asset to the museum. Great job!!!. I would certainly visit again to see if any new pieces of art arrived since my previous visit. I also received a nice tote bag as an appreciation for my donation. Love this museum. By the way, I learned of the museum via the internet and decided to visit during my stay in Savannah on a pleasure trip.

Amazing historical artifacts!! Definitely a great place to visit, especially if you're a local. We have so many hidden gems in this great city of ours. The tours are free, but please consider making a donation. No matter how small, it all helps.

I'm thrilled and amazed such a collection exists in Savannah. It's definitely worth a visit for all age groups. So much history, religion and culture! The museum is respectful of the artifacts and the experience was fun & educational. Thank you Billie for the tour, I'm excited to see this community gem thrive!

This place is an absolute gem in Savannah and it's completely free. This collection is absolutely bursting with high quality, interesting pieces from all over Africa. I took a tour of the central African art with Dr. Johnson who has an encyclopedic knowledge of each piece's tribal affiliations, use, history and purpose. I really walked away with a new appreciation for this fascinating work. If you enjoy art, history, religion, or anthropology do not miss this!!!!!

Great visit, the tour guide was quite informative. Pictures do not do the sculptures or artwork justice

Visiting the Savannah African Arts Museum was fabulous! The museum showcases various African artifacts, art, and sculptures. It was an educational and enjoyable experience. The docent was a welcome addition to the experience, and she was highly knowledgeable. She provided excellent insight into the historical, cultural, and artistic significance of the museum objects. It was clear that she was passionate about African culture and eager to share her knowledge with visitors. I left feeling more informed and inspired to learn more about African culture. I'm so glad I visited the museum! I highly recommend this museum to anyone looking to learn more about African culture.

Loved that it is free to go in. They do ask for a donation at some point if you want to but they have nice things that you’d possibly want to purchase. A person actually donated a good amount of money before our tour ended and we were all able to get a bag on the anonymous donator. I still donated money anyway. I felt the tour guide Lisa was really great and knowledgeable. She even sent us links and information after the tour that some of us wanted to learn more about. The tour was very interesting and would definitely recommend. The other staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable. Good experience!

This was a great place to gain some sort of hands on experience. (Of course one cannot touch the artifacts) yet it’s doesn’t alter the collection experience. Recommend place to visit when visiting Savannah. -Santi

A 93 yr-old white private collector provides free tours of a house full of interesting purchases. The items are divided by the region of Africa they likely came from. The white docent said most were obtained through a NYC dealer, but the dates and provenance are not either known or shown. The docent said the non-profit has never been asked to return any pieces to their country of origin.. The tour was full of interesting, albeit vague and undocumented, tidbits about traditional African cultures with little specifics about whether those traditions are still in use. Little was discussed about the artistic techniques or quality of the pieces. I felt like the organization's love of African art did not include a passion to correct the narrative of barbarism perpetrated on the colonized continent. I would prefer to see these pieces displayed with the same research and respect given to European artwork displayed in museums outside Europe. She mentioned that they have just received a donation of another 5000 pieces. This might make make it one of the largest collections outside of Africa.

They have a small, but very interesting collection. Only guided tours are allowed, so I recommend checking for the times before going. The tour was very informative.

It's lit! Nothing more to say here except: this is such an invaluable resource to the community. The admission is free, the docents and curators are so incredibly knowledgable and truly committed to uplifting the works housed in this beautiful space. Go here to get elevated, man. It's so incredibly lit. You won't regret it.

Completely disappointed! I scheduled a tour for me and my students over 3 weeks ago. When we arrived for the tour they said they had us scheduled for the next week. I explained we make our schedules a month in advance, and that was an error because we have something already scheduled the next week. The staff called the director to see what could be done since it is clearly a mistake. She said we were not scheduled for today, and they could not accommodate us. Even though there was no other guest at the facility. The director, Billie Stultz did not try to accommodate us. The only option given was to reschedule. This was clearly a mistake on the person that took our reservation; who conveniently was not there. We only had 4 adults and 14 special education students, but they could not accommodate us. A good director would have tried to accommodate us; specifically when we were the only ones at the museum at the time. This facility schedule tours every 30 minutes to every hour, but they could not accommodate us. I believe that the director just didn’t want to accommodate us. Even if she had to lead us on a 30 minute tour, would have been better than just saying they could not accommodate us. This was truly unfortunate because me and my colleagues have been to the museum before, and I know that this tour would have been a great learning experience for our students. They were completely disappointed, and I certainly hope no other students will have to share the same experience as we did.

What a gem! An expansive and diverse collection brought to life via friendly, knowledgeable guides… and somehow it’s free?! Get down here and learn about the amazing cultures and traditions that were “somehow” left out of North American classrooms. Then thank the nice people for adding something new to your brain. So yeah. If anyone needs me I’ll just be over here googling the Yoruba tribe and collecting cowrie shells.

Connie did a very impressive job explaining everything in detail. Me and my family venture to numerous museums around the country and Connie made our experience wonderful. Connie explained everything so well and is full of life . This museum is definitely a must see. Me and my family really enjoyed ourselves. Definitely worth the trip.
