Enjoyable experience, but the security felt like it was breathing down our necks a little. I get the need to protect the art however so I understand. All the art here was in the main exhibits floors 1 2 and 3. On LL there is a poster exhibit full of interesting posters, however I didn't get any pictures. The being oval mirror was also a favorite for me and many of the people there. My favorite part is all in the architecture of the building. One complaint there being the noisy flooring. All around well made exhibits and as i said, an enjoyable experience.

I love the High Museum of Art. My favorite time to go is on the first Friday of every month for High Frequency Fridays. They have a live band and a bar. It’s definitely a place to take a date or have a cute sophisticated night with friends. Staff is always polite and even on its busiest nights, the wait to get in is never long. Also, the membership is totally worth it! You won’t regret buying it, even if you are new to the art scene like me.

The High Museum of Art is perfectly designed for art lovers to enjoy. Each exhibit is remarkably as amazing as the other. I spent about three hours, and was able to see all of the exhibits. I was pleased to learn about so many different cultures. The museum is very beautiful, and I had an amazing experience.

Nice place to visit in Atlanta. Very close to Art Center Station. The entrance is free on the Second Sunday of every month. There is beautiful artwork and the museum is spacious. There is museum staff at the lobby with a board "ask me" to guide you if you have any problem. This is a place you should visit at least once. It is a nice experience.

When we went, it wasn’t overly crowded but still a lot of people. I wouldn’t say it’s that small, there were many floors with a lot of pieces. Admission is under $20. Not too bad. Museum was clean and staff was pleasant. It took me a few hours to look at everything. I don’t go too fast in case I miss something.

So I only saw a small portion of what they have due to chaperoning a bunch of kids for a school trip. What I saw was great. We saw the Paris, Samurai and the food court exhibit(these kids were taking about eating as soon as we got here). It's clean and the staff is really friendly. The Paris portion was cool. I'm not an art enthusiast but it was interesting. Now the Samurai exhibit was amazing. It's worth the price to get in just to see that. I loved it. When my oldest comes back for a visit from college in gonna drag the bum down here.

This is a really cool museum located in Midtown in Atlanta Georgia. The pictures are from a particular show which was the light show. However they always have different exhibits running so it’s worth checking out. It is so large and such a wide open space that you don’t feel claustrophobic walking around. Also they have fun nights on Friday night I believe where they play jazz and there’s a bar and you can drink and walk around. Overall this is a great place to walk around and catch some art. Also it brings you into Midtown which is a great part of town and there’s lots of places to eat around there. There’s also the botanical gardens around there which is super cool. Highly recommend.

First visit, and I've been in GA for 26 years. I was amazed at the artwork and facilty. The staff was helpful. Perfect for a date and gathering with friends; much to talk about. I've posted a few of my absolute favorites. The venue is spacious and pristine. 3 floors, stairs with a view, may be scary if you are afraid of heights. There are huge elevators for use. The experience was exceptional. I visited on a Sunday so quite a number of people yet still plenty of elbow room. As far as time, we leisurely perused for nearly 2 hours, but you can see it all in less time.

We always enjoy a day to appreciate good art at the High Museum! We had tickets for the Obama portrait tour and it was pretty interesting to see as we got the full details of the portrait! If you’re around Midtown Atlanta, I highly recommend coming here to enjoy a great day to appreciate all types of art! There is a specific day each month that you can enter the museum for free!

Fantastic way to spend the morning. The online ticket purchase was very easy with no wait at arrival. Parking was also very accessible and close to the museum entrance. We spent about 2.5 hours at a leisurely pace. The staff was very friendly and provided good insights into the exhibits.

I had a great time at Friday night jazz. The best part was walking the museum and listening to the show. If you want a seat I encourage you to get there early. It was a really different and fun vibe in the city!

Its nice. There are three buildings worth of art. (2 wings and the light exhibit in the building across the wall way). The art varies from photography to scrap yard art. The museum embodies people from all walks of life. They have a nice play area for kids 2 different rooms. I think this is a great spot for a date or family outing. Some of the art is explicit though. So beware.

When they are not filming the TV series “The Resident” this place is a wonderful museum. We just went to the traveling Calder-Picasso exhibition which is absolutely mesmerizing. Great description and exhibits. Then be sure to see the rest of the exhibits from contemporary to folk art. This is an Atlanta “must see”, and at less than $20 a head), is a great deal. I’m sure discounts are available. Great staff and gift shop. Parking can be a hassle, but the quality of the museum is well worth the effort to find parking.

Loved it! My teen even said, “this is a SOLID museum!” Just an absolutely beautiful place! Especially liked the china/glassware, this (pictured) outdoor art called “Ascent,” and the room with ceramic pots (pictured). Bonus that it was FREE and the staff was so nice/welcoming. Enjoyed it very much!

Beautiful architecture and art! Conveniently located on Peachtree street, the High has a parking ramp and admission isn’t too pricey. Lots of different collections from paintings and sculptures to furniture and gorgeous pottery. I really enjoyed the silver.

It is my favorite place in Atlanta. It's very educational for myself and kids. I love to come here just to hang out and drinking coffee. There are tons of restaurants and things to do around it. It is 5 mins walking distance from the metro station(marta).

A very nice collection of modern, contemporary, classical and impressionist art as well as photography and sculpture collections. Located in midtown with ample parking and close access to public transportation (MARTA). Free access on certain holidays like MLK day.

This a beautiful place to admire and learn about art and history. You can visit with family and friends. They also have new exhibitions from time to time. The staff is also very friendly. I gave it a 4 stars since there were parts of the museum that were dirty and had dust under certain pieces particularly on the floor. I arrived right before they opened so one would think that they would have the place clean and ready.

This is definitely a place you can come enjoy amazing art even on a Sunday. There was a line when we went but people were safely distancing. However I did not like the ramp on the inside because of the inability to social distance. The ramp is very functional for a wheelchair. There are multiple floors full of beautiful collections which include tribal, religion, popular culture and more. Definitely worth the price.

Museum buildings are fascinating and they have so much art! We were surprised by the amount of African artefacts. Our favorite section was European art. Beautiful!

Whew! What can I say? They have a plethora of different art. From African art to European art. Abstract are to photography. I really love this museum. This would be my 3rd visit, but as an adult. I have more of an appreciation for art now. The art galleries are sectioned to its specific trip l type of art and there are I believe 5 levels including a ground level. I really don’t know where to begin to talk about my experience you just have to go and experience or your self. We went on a weekday, paid and walked right in so we didn’t wait long. I enjoyed the time periods, the cultural aspects, and just gazing at all of the beauty there. If you love and have a great appreciation for art then this is the place for you. If you don’t know much about it and want to find out, then you should definitely book yourself some tickets and come on out.

It’s a great Museum, we loved our time there. We spend about $70 for 4 tickets and $20 parking. You can eat outside, there is small area for food and drinks inside but no food or drink allowed in the galleries. Clean bathrooms. Small kids area to draw. We spent one hour total visit.

This is an excellent museum. There are a variety of exhibits featuring all kinds of art. The architecture itself is also stunning and adds to the museum. There is a lot of natural lighting as well which helps. If you live in the area, I suggest getting the annual pass because you can bring guests. There are also discounts for students, seniors and more.

Looking for a FREE family or date event!!! Well this is one of my favorites. I have enjoyed it so much that I took my daughter when she was still about 10 and she is 26 and my son since he was six months and now 8. The High Museum of Atlanta offers FREE 3rd Saturdays of each month AND some Sundays (check their website for more details). But this is DEFINITELY worth driving in circles on Peachtree waiting to get a FREE parking ( yes , I don’t like paying for lots of things lol)!! Luck 🍀 would have it, I have not paid for parking here, Ever ( knocking on good ol Georgia wood 🪵). They have a handicap ramp for those taking strollers or elders. There is a restaurant on the property and now food truck outside. Some things are expensive so normally I feed us before heading out and pack fruits and snacks. There are seatings outside the museum to take a break and eat. Don’t worry while sitting you will enjoy the various murals outside and off course some old school fun of people watching. And people are hilarious so you won’t be bored or think you’re missing anything by sitting inside. Don’t be in a hurry here!! Kids can sign up for FREE to get a SMARTBOX (that blue box in all the pictures… we call it “his briefcase) that includes a notebook, pencil, coloring, and a small gift. We have many and now use it to store books, writing items etc in the backseat of my car and another we use to store in my son bathroom and it holds his lotions and sprays and even given some away. Very multi functional!! They used to have more activities for the kiddos but they still had a section for hands on creatives and it served it’s purpose. What I love most is the diversity of this museum, when we visited, the Samurai exhibit was displayed, but there were so many others like African, Europe, Spanish, etc… I love this museum because it helps build a diverse dialogue that can carry on…

I was fortunate enough to spend some time in this elegant museum today! There was a plethora of beautiful collections from very diverse cultures. I was able to see some wonderful pieces from Mary Cassatt, Julie Mehretu, El Anatsui, and more! On the other hand, I sadly missed a Monet and Sonya Clark exhibition. I was met with some lovely empty space where the Monet used to reside. I loved the interior design of the museum; it felt very modern and simple in a nice way. I highly recommend taking a visit to the fabulous High Museum of Art!

The High Museum of Art is such a fun place. There are exhibits that are permanent and always fun to rediscover and there are exhibits that are there for a short period of time. Those exhibits are very interesting, sometimes interactive, and always informative in a awesome way. I would highly recommend The High as a fun outing and change of pace. ART is great for the brain and soul. Enjoy!!!

The high museum is an architectural beauty. The building itself is so well designed with sky lights at the top shining light into the works of art. At the moment there is a KAWS exhibit in the museum that was very cool to see along with art by Khinde Whiley. Visited the top floor which has all of the African art which was great to see. Would come back as the Obama portraits are on their way to visit the High Museum.

I love everything this museum has to offer. From the sculptures, paintings, or special exhibits. We spent many hours appreciating the art on display. Definitely a great place to visit in the city if you're a lover of the arts. **You can't enter the museum if you buy a coffee or food. I wasn't paying attention to their signs when I first got there and had to throw my coffee away. Just a reminder**

I've never been to an exhibit here that was disappointing. The museum is beautiful. Love the refresh they did on their permanent exhibit, and love Second Sundays! I do wish they were open a little later. The only downside to the museum is the price of parking. But I mean, hey - it's Atlanta. Definitely try to take MARTA as there's a station right by the museum. Also, if you go into the gift shop as an exhibit is wrapping up, the exhibit-specific merchandise typically has a pretty steep discount. Did that for Infinity Mirrors ;)

Great place for dates, friends or romance. Tickets are under $20 and they do require masks, social distancing & adherence to designated eat/drink spaces. Nice way to get out the house.

The museum was great but the staff was very rude. Even though a person is visually impaired they should be welcome to explore a museum with their children. I felt singled out because of my disability but at least the kids enjoyed the Julie Mehretu exhibit.

Our family experience was surreal. The intricate details in most of the pieces was Devine. We experienced the death of emotions through the art that the artist was delivering. And the world centuries artifacts was truly breathe taken. We was in aww of such preservation of every piece. We could sit and chat about one piece for hours on end. Much see!

Atlanta is home to its fair share of major attractions. One which doesn’t get the publicity it deserves is the High Museum of Art in the Midtown arts district. Known to almost everyone simply as ‘the High’, the museum has a collection that began more than a hundred years ago and is now spread over 300,000 square feet of gallery space. Its 17,000 works of art sit within a building designed by some of the world’s most influential architects – Renzo Piano and Richard Meier. They include paintings by European masters such as Monet and Singer Sargent, while Rodin’s sculpture The Shade stands immediately outside.

Visited the High Museum to see the Calder Picasso special exhibit. Was my first time there and was blown away by the fresh architectural presence of the museum juxtaposed in a rapidly modernizing part of the city of Atlanta. The exhibit itself was finely curated; it unraveled a tale of two artists and their evolution as told by both of their grandsons. There were warm and kind ushers throughout the museum - a rarity for many musuems. It was not stuffy, despite the rich array of collections. Women's wing and BIPOC artists were present in some galleries - more than at most modern art museums in the US, but still left wanting even more. A wide array of material and media in each gallery kept the attention and eagerness to see what was around the next corner. Gift shop was eclectic as every fantastic art museum gift shop should be. Pricey. Cafe was meager and lacking but it is pandemic times. A wonderful 2.5 hr experience and I likely only saw 1/4 of what the museum had to offer. The campus was family friendly with open areas outside to explore and run, but some possibly unsafe on-street parking options behind the museum.

Excellent exhibit! Very clean and very well organized environment! I love how there are very bright-well lit areas to draw attention to the art and clear the mind to feel relaxed in the experience. There are great collections that are specific to a theme in each area. The themes are historical or cultural and represent as such. For the area the size of the gallery is uniquely fit for the compact yet cozy environment that Atlanta is representing right now. What creates an awesome experience that there will be Jazz on certain nights to draw a unique crowd. The people that you will see at this museum in attendance here are well mannered, lovers of art and entertainment.

It was a peaceful and enjoyable experience. I visited with my 6 month old twins in tow, and got some art inspiration. I loved that it wasn’t super crowded either. It was $16.50 we ended up getting a membership so we could go again and see the other exhibits we missed. There’s a kids exploration area that seemed cool but not quite ready for non walking 6 month olds but I took them through to see colors and feel textures. I was saying they have a toddler Thursdays too so I’ll have to look into that and take the twins when they’re older. When I was looking up the museum their site says breast feeding individuals are free to nurse in any of the public areas of the museum but they do have a private area if they wish that. So that’s a plus, and it was very stroller friendly too. Looking forward to my next visit!

I attended the High Museum of Art’s “High Frequency Friday” event in early April to be the main event of my Bachelorette trip, and we were not disappointed! I had been once before with my now wife, and we loved it. It really impressed all of my friends that hadn’t been there before either. The drinks were delicious and we loved that there were two different music areas playing different jams. Inside was more house music, while outside was more retro/well known jams. We definitely should’ve gone about an hour after it started though, because that’s when it really started to be a party! We loved it and would definitely go back!

The HIGH Museum of Art is a fantastic place to go, and see new artwork presented nearly every week. It left a wonderful impression on me, since it was my first time there. If you are looking for a place to discover well-known and unknown works, the check out the HIGH Museum of Art.

Covid has forced timed entry and the experience was nearly flawless. Only thing that I would change is the ability to have ticket arrive via text. My first visit since the reinstallation and I was impressed. Everything seems brighter and more accessible. More of the collection is on view and the galleries are more cohesive. Spent more time than expected.

Please hire front desk and cafe staff who value customer service! Assuming you hire avid art lovers or students (those who would be open to working part time)? As a visitor services and events manager at an art museum I recommend you focus on hires who value customer service with an interest in art. Trust me it worked for my museum, also try hiring older/mature. Expectations just need to be higher, team was not welcoming and didn’t offer any information regarding the museum. One was on her phone, the other just staring at the computer-at least say hello when someone walks in. Beautiful museum, just disappointed with the service.

Sadly, we are so starved for art we'll desperately accept anything that is pronounced art, put in a big building and placed in a glass case. I thought that the exhibits were not up-to-par for a major city. Considering Atlanta's diverse population, the African collection in the basement was almost nonexistent. The drawings on the other floor were ...banal. Tickets prices for this rubbish were exorbitant. Come on people! The emperor has on no clothes. There is more interesting art at the mall's art store.

I come here quite frequently as my friend works here and I have come to enjoy this museum quite a lot. They change up the exhibits frequently enough to keep things interesting and there is a wide variety of art. What damages my review is purely the lack of eye catching / pinnacle pieces that would help create the Atlanta art scene identity. This being the central art museum of Atlanta sets quite a high bar for what I seek. Museums in cities with less developed culture such as Phoenix have a great deal of unique and identifiable pieces such as work by Yayoi Kusama as permanent installations that build the museum's identity.

Easily one of the best (if not the best) art museums in the south east, the High is an expansive and large museum that covers just about everything your heart could artistically desire...a floor dedicated to Modern Art...check...Impressionism...check. Hudson School...check. African art...check. Traveling exhibitions...done. And that's just scratching the surface. The photo exhibitions in the "basement" are always fantastic and the permanent collection is amazing. There's really nothing bad that can be said about this museum at all. Even the cafe is tasty! Oh and the gift shop has tons of art books you need in your collection. I love this place so much I became a member! Beyond highly recommended.

I'm genuinely confused on how anyone can give the High Museum of Art a rating below five stars. It's a beautiful and gorgeous museum, located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. With a serene interior courtyard, the towering presence of Atlanta's skyscrapers surround you. The interior is clean and modern with new art exhibitions being rotated in-and-out on a frequent basis. The artwork, exhibitions, and pieces featured are rich in history and meaning. The personnel are friendly and helpful and the museum is affordable at $14.50 a person.

Fantastic museum. Rarely can you find a place that can show off such a variety of works with helpful placards and down to earth sensibility. The exhibits themselves get the unique break up of the buildings own amazing architecture that makes exploring the museum itself an amazing joy by itself. Truly a palace of Art collections. A must see for Atlanta visitors.

A wonderful place to visit and spend hours looking through all the different pieces of art. From paintings and photography to sculptures and installation pieces, there is something for everyone. Make sure to allocate at least 2 hours to spend wandering the museum. You will want to visit your favorite pieces more than once! They have both a long ramp and elevators for access to all the floors.

Tried to visit today only to be turned away at the door. This is after paying $18 for parking. They need to update their website with a banner that says to read the FAQs page. Apparently on 2nd Sundays, it’s free and you need to make a reso. The info is buried at the bottom of this FAQs page. Easy to miss IMO. I saw several other people turned away and angry.

Wonderful place to visit. The exhibits are always interesting. Sundays are pretty crowded. But masks are required. We went on a Wednesday afternoon this time. And it was far less crowded and more relaxed. The staff at the entrance were so helpful on this last visit and nice, especially Isaiah at ticketing. The guards were also helpful. If they didn't know something, they took the time to find out for you. So nice! We had a lovely time. So much so that I purchased a membership.

This place is amazing. I love their displays and exhibits, but more than that, I really enjoy their events. From their Friday jazz nights to their family art days. There is always someone around to guide you if you get lost, and the facility is always super clean. There is parking nearby, but you will have to pay for it. I recommend checking the site for upcoming events unless you’re into art, but I like getting the two for one. Enjoy!

There’s certainly a lot to see at this museum, and they have a good variety of art from the classics to the modern. The building is kind of in a goofy layout, but it just adds to the ambience of an art museum. Definitely take advantage of the free weekend entry days. It can be crowded but tolerable, nonetheless.

This museum is relaxing. No big crowds or long lines. The art is exceptional and unlike anything else I have seen in other museums across the country. As folks that aren't big art museum folks we loved spending a Friday night catching some of the live music (however it's hard to get a seat unless you arrive early). By far the highlight of my recent trip to Atlanta. Wish there was an exhibition of oriental art, but the exhibitions they do have are vast and maintained meticulously. The marble statues are an incredible sight to behold in person and are the results of incredibly talented artists and craftsmen. A great spot to visit even if you aren't super into art, but if you are, make time to spend 2-3 hours here minimum.

  • 5/5 Bruce C. 6 months ago on Google
Great museum with an unusually large amount of sculpture in the displayed works. There is a good concentration in modern art too so you are stuck looking at room after room of Renaissance paintings.

The High Museum of Art is the largest museum for visual art in the South. It’s Located in Atlanta, Georgia (on Peachtree Street in Midtown, the city's arts district), the High is 312,000 square feet. Cafe was closed but they did have a small kiosk of sorts. Bring your wallet.
