The National Children's Park and Zoo is located within a military zone and is home to different animals and activities. I visited here recently for a picnic and had a good time here. The zoo has a gate fee for Adults and we paid 500 naira each. The environment is quite clean with multiple grasslands for picnics. There's a man-made lake, animals cage displays, an aviary, swings, kid-friendly playground and a rope climb. The zoo is wheelchair accessible and great for the whole family. Some of animals at the zoo include lions, monkeys, alligators, crocodiles, ostriches, rabbits, tortoises, donkeys, horses and different birds. Main issue with park is the maintenance. Some of the animal cages need repairs and the animals need better treatment. Also most activities were not available. For example, we couldn't use the rowing boats. Also there aren't any restaurants or food stalls so it's best to take your own food when you visit.

I saw a picture of this place online and decided I needed to visit. Surprisingly, entrance fee for adult is just N500. All animals look well taken care of, especially the Lions. I couldn't go close to where snakes were, was a bit scared. The staff were really nice. They don't sell anything inside, so bring your snacks and drinks when coming, and remember to dispose them properly.

Great space for children, groups, couples, or solo hangouts. The spreadout of varieties of animals is something to learn and keep you entertained. Very affordable entry. #300 for kids and #500 for adults. Horse ride is #1,000 though twas for a very short distance. Good overall experience.

The zoo is an extremely affordable place to hang out in Abuja, with lots of amazing spots to take pictures. They actually have lions and crocodiles, to name a few. There is also a field where you can have a picnic and a playground for children/adults .

Decent place with a modest array of animals. Also has enough space for other social activities like picnics, games, camping, etc. Do well to come with your mat(s) and refreshments.

It was a nice time experience with my my family. I had the opportunity to see life animals that I have never seen before now. The like of Lion 🦁 Tiger 🐅, Camel 🐪, Snake e.t.c. The place is also good for Picnic, Relaxation and playing of various games. And another good aspect of the place is you can come along with your foods, snacks and drinks 🍻.

If you’re searching for a picnic worthy spot in Abuja , then this is it folks .national children’s park and zoo. Entry fee is now 500 per adult and 300 per child . It’s a picnic so you’re bringing your food and drinks . But if you’re going on a Saturday there’s vendors in front of the park selling snacks and all that. Be prepared to see the animals and birds that live there .including lions and hyenas too .

First off is the three stars for maintenance of the facilities and the animals. Our poor sense of value wins again. The positive is that this place even exists in the Federal Capital Territory. Any first timer will be astounded by the scenery, the layout and the location of this park but then you go in and the scales start to fall off. You start to wonder why it's not as boisterous as it should be for a major national zoo and park.. The animals are malnourished and unexcited about their guests. The lake is beautiful but you'll expect to see some geese or swans floating around. Alas! They do have lots of animals though, including a couple of lions, turtles, pythons of the constrictor family, crocodiles, monkeys, ostriches, deer and my most disliked wild animal; hyenas. There's so much potential here and you'll expect the government to do more to make it come alive and attract traffic. It's quite a fantastic location and it's securely nestled between highbrow military formations so no safety worries. It's is also affordable for the family and you can have a picnic on the grass. My phone's camera wasn't in great shape so the images I got weren't so great.

The National Children’s Park and Zoo are located in the Asokoro district of Abuja, behind the Presidential Villa. It is reasonably close to Aso Rock. If you are an animal lover, there are a number of wildlife animals to see here, however the species of animals here are limited and are mostly limited to camels, crocodiles, giraffe, monkeys, lion, hyenas, duck, snake, ostriches, tortoises, wild cats The park also has a large playground for kids, a dedicated lane for kids called “Toddler’s Lane” which has a number of fun activities and a lake.

If you’re looking to reconnect with nature then this place is definitely for you!! It’s also a wildlife park, so yes! They have wonderful animals! The lions are simply beautiful and I had a wonderful time getting to know more about the animals! The tour guide was really good at his job! This park is family friendly and if you’re looking to having quality family time, it’s for you! You can come with your food, drinks and whatever edibles you want cause this is an amazing picnic spot! P.s… do go along with your hats and sunshades! Very important guys!

The Park & Zoo was a wonderful place to go to. It's space and variety of activities was a welcome distraction as it drew in a high turn out. They had some wonderful side attractions for the day, however, the boats although collapsable does not take away the fun for the kids, there are other side attractions.

I loved the place. It's a quiet and peaceful place to have a picnic for groups. Children can also be brought to the picnic. There is a swing, and other children's games to play. It has a zoo with some animals like Lions, Crocodile, Ostrich, Buffalo, Tortoise, Camel There is a cave restaurant but we didn't eat anything there. People are allowed to come in with food and drinks. The gate fee at the time of visit was ₦500. I generally enjoyed myself.

This is one the few lovely Parks and zoos in Abuja. It has a nice parking space and quite a varieties of animals and side attractions. Nice place mostly for kids but Adults also can come visit and have fun. There is a dam behind the park which has not been put to its best use yet over the years. The place is usually a beehive of activities on weekends and scantly visited during the week. There are varieties of animals and species such as Lion, hyenas, ostriches, goats, phyton (snake), monkeys, parrots, buffaloes, very old and young tortoises and so many others. Other side attractions at the park include see-saw, swing, horse ride and so many others. I really had fun all the times I visited. It is also a nice place to host picnics, meetings, party and so on. You could also get snacks and drinks outside the gates or come with your foods or refreshment. The last time I visited the park two things amazed me. First, the monkey just had a baby, the motherly care was just too lovely and secondly, the tortoises were of different ages, the oldest was so old that I could not imagine what the age would be. It is generally, a beautiful place to visit at any time, although, quite a lot still needs to be done on the maintenance of the park.

Fantastic place to have a picnic with your family... The scenery is beautiful. The National park and zoo is located just at the foot of Aso Rock. They have a good mix of Animals. They lions, buffaloes, Ostriches, Turtles, Monkeys, Horses, Pythons, Donkey and many more. They also have a well equipped play ground. This is highly recommended for a family or friends hangout location.

I had lots of fun. Went round watching each animal, it was really exciting. It's normal to have insects around the field and if you one is sensitive or allergic to insect bite and sting ensure to go with an insect repellent.

The park is located in Asokoro district of Abuja. They have some great animals a lion and a lioness, ostriches, very large tortoises, snakes, monkeys, baboons, antelope and horses and and other domestics animals. They also have so recreational equipment for kids. But most of the free equipment are not functioning. However, there are paid services that go for N500 per child. They are quite fun as kids like them. They also sell some stuff around for kids. The environment is quite good.

I was quite impressed with the healthy looking animals. They seemed to have transferred the care of the animals to better hands. The highlight of my visit was seeing the male lions in their enclosure. Wow... those beasts were majestic. Though the park managers need to do something about over grown grasses in the ostriches enclosure for instance.

Looking for a place to hangout with the family? Especially the kids then the National children’s park and zoo is it. It’s also a perfect spot to host a picnic. Entrance fee for adults is 500 Naira and 300 Naira for kids. Didn’t see so many animals not like I had high expectations. I’d advice you not to visit there hungry except you don’t plan on staying long or better still just go with your food, because I didn’t see any decent food vendor there. You’d definitely have a good walk while appreciating nature. The park had a playground for kids (well not just kids, because I got to play on most of them. You can’t shame the shameless). There’s also a “lake cafe “ where you can sit and admire the lakeside. I visited the park on a Saturday so it was quite busy. As for security, it is very secured as the park seems to be inside a barracks or so.

It is a nice place to bring the kids to though I went with a group of professionals. So I don't know how much for entry. The zoo is very child friendly. There are picnic tables and chair for some cool 😎 hangout. I would appreciate it that the convenience be made more functional. You can get some snacks and drinks at the entrance.

Nice place for nature lovers. Some wild animals like lions and lioness, buffalo, hyenas, phyton, tortoise, monkeys and birds etc. The lake looks man-made but quite scenic with a bush bar. Also the jungle net climb was very good for the kids. Entry fee is #300 for children and #500 for adult as at April 2022. Nice one though I expected to see more anumals

A superb place to take pictures and have picnics with family and friends. They have a zoo which has a variety of animals like Tortoise, Lions, Monkeys, Snakes, Crocodiles, pigeons, goats, Bulls, Ostriches... but i must add that they aren't really in the best condition. Either ways, they are still worth showing kids. The entry fee is quite cheap, too

It's a really iconic location and the scenery is great. This park is actually very nice and good for Sunday strolls or picnic but I also have to mention that the playground is dangerous as the equipment is broken and kids could get really injured. It lacks of cleaning and maintaining and some animals are in a desolate health condition. 400 Naira entrance fee is okay but they should promote it more to bring more money for maintenance in their registers

I had a swell time hanging out with some acquaintances and my social media friends. As an author of many books who drives so much pleasure and inspiration from nature it happens to be one of my preferred place because of the nature vibes I get being present at the park this weekend. The ambience at the park is second to none. I like how affordable the gate pass is, it was easier for myself and other lovely persons to connect and enjoy ourselves. I will recommend it for friends or individuals who need a place with a touch of nature to hangout. The only thing that interrupted my experience was other group of friends who were playing loud music. I wish a restriction can be placed on how loud one can turn in their music so others who would love feel every part of the nature, chirping of birds and fresh air can have the liberty to enjoy it all to the fullest. Also I wish more improvement can be done on the arrangement and placement of animals. It will really attractive more tourism. Nevertheless I like the little beauty of nature I got to experience, it's priceless for me.

It's an amazing park and Zoo for Children and even adults can find a couple of interesting animals to behold. The weather there felt differently (so chilling), maybe because of the small lake that serves as a relaxation center. We saw wild animals and birds including Lions, Ostriches, Monkeys, Python, Tortoise, parrots, horses, and a whole lot of others. The zoo is big, well-spaced, and organized. The park on the same premises also attracted lots of children as they were confused about where to go (zoo or play at the park). It's an interesting place to visit if you are in Abuja, I rate it 4.5 stars.

It's a great recreation location, but the absence of canopies and shelters makes it not very ideal during the rainy seasons, and that's why I gave it a 4 out of 5 stars rating.

National Children's Park Was I'd Say Deserted. Few Animals, I Didn't Get A Tour Guide Which Is Strange And Might Be Blamed On Their Ignorance. The Animals We're Receptive And They Like Pictures, They Were Always Coming To The Demarcation Bar And Looking At The Camera. I Liked That! The Lake Has A Great View With Two Canoes In Sight. In Conclusion, National Childrens Park Is A Place To Be, But Don't Expect Much. I Hope You'll Find This Useful. Thank You.

In a nutshell - a great experience! You've got the famous Aso Rock in the background, a lake (or big pond) on the premises, a few animals including some lions and ostriches, snacks stands and a vast children playground. The whole park is sited in a secure location. It's a worthwhile experience. I only wish there was a wider selection of animals.

While it was one of the greatest spots for a picnic during the holidays or as an excursion site to educate children, the place has been greatly neglected. The more interesting animals are dead, its dirty and in great disrepair. For a national park and zoo it is quite disheartening. I hope it will be improved on.

A very nice and serene environment well suited for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. A contrasting ambience to what is known to be the norm in Abuja and its environs. Sitting at the base of the Aso rock, it has an interesting view of the rock, equipped with adequate parking spaces and boasts of a variety of animals including two grown lions, it is a sight for kids and adults alike.

The National Children's Park and Zoo, Abuja is the best place to be to have the safari experience of life. Located in a serene with great security, the zoo has a number of interesting animals the kids will love. There are two majestic lions brought to the zoo in 2018. I have shared some photos I took during my visit to the zoo, but it is best you have a first hand experience.

  • 4/5 Isimeme O. 3 years ago on Google
Fantastic zoo! The lions and hyenas are the main attractions. Some of the other animals available include Ostriches, one snake, tortoises, ponies, donkeys, alligators, monkeys, buffaloes, parrots The animals look well taken care of. The environment has facilities that are not well maintained/ utilized. Will like to see more animal varieties such as elephants, giraffes, leopards, etc. If all the facilities are fully utilized and well maintained, this zoo has world class potentials. Good place to visit in groups.

Nice place to have a picnic especially with young kids. Gives them an opportunity to see some animals first hand here in Abuja. Theyhave lions, hyenas, monkeys, antelopes, tortoises, rabbits, crocodiles, snakes, parrots, ponies, goats, etc. Good outdoors for the weekend and I highly recommend!

  • 5/5 Mazi L. 3 years ago on Google
I went there for the 3rd time with my family and this time, I saw a great improvement in both services and the health of the animals. That's the reason for the 5 stars. The lion and lioness are grown now. They have more animals. I got to learn more about tortoise myself. They have the 98yr old, 45yr old and 15yr old tortoises. Also the playground for the children is very good for the kids, so my advice is to go early so that they get to use most of the facilities and get tired in time. The management should try to enlist the services of proper guides and interns, proper servicing of the facilities, get more vendors around and a cafeteria or canteen too.

It’s also a zoo so there are a couple of different animals you get to see. You can picnic there and there are lots of fun things for the children to do. Hidden gem behind a military zone. Beautiful scenery, the lake and mountain make great photos. Lots of area for kids to play and have family picnics. Animals could be better cared for, the horses were emaciated and smelled really bad. Lions looked like they skipped a couple meals. The enclosures weren’t well kept. ₦1500 “Camera Charge” by the ticket attendants is ridiculously corrupt though. Why charge me to snap photos of a public park, with my own equipment?

Everything depends on the kind of person you are. If you want to enjoy an atmospheric of childish fun, the park is a great place for you. There are swings and merry go rounds, all suitable for kids. As of November 2021, they had lions, crocodiles, hyneas, parrots, horses you can ride on and a python snake which gave me a horrible nightmare that night. Overall, if you want to have a good time and enjoy yourself, you will. But when something is being maintained by Nigeria it's not the best. Go there for the fun and make it memorable.

This park is an amazing one. National children's park and zoo Abuja is located opposite Aso rock villa. It is a natural reserve centre, beautiful place housing some animals like Donken, Lions, Ostriches, Monkeys, crocodiles, tortoises, snake, ducks, doves, hyena, parrots, goats, horses and others that I cant remember. There is a lake that is beautifully located with calm vicinity. There wre several spots to buy food ,drinks and snacks withing the park. There are several children play grounds with many amenities to play with. There is a massive rock located just behind the park and it gives the park an amazing natural look. The rock is also symbolic to this park. The green area is massive with several trees and fruits scattered all around the park... This park is well situated because it lies within the military barracks and directly opposite Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. The entrance is guided by army personnel. The car park is well planned and spacious for several cars.

Serene environment, great for kids to run around and play.. Also has a bit of animals to entertain the kids and the facility is very family friendly.. however a better job can be with cleaning and garbage management..

A beautiful place for pictures, picnics with loved ones. I think I'd go on a weekday next time, weekdays can be really crowded so if you need some quiet it's best not on weekends. There are animals here too for site seeing, horse riding. Be adviced to bring food. There's not much to buy here. And some covering too from ants. lol. Beautiful place I must say.

National Park and Zoo is a charming place to go for picnics and just a nice walk. I went over the weekend, and it was really cloudy, so the weather was perfect. There’s a playground there, and I had the best time playing on the swing and the rope thingy. The animals are well taken care of, and you can ask for a tour guide if you don't want to figure out where everything is by yourself.

I had a great time here with the family. The animals aren't much but the kids would surely be fascinated by them. It's a really good place for a picnic, they allow you to bring your food and drinks. If you don't come with a mat, you can rent from the security desk for a 300naira fee. This place is one of the best kept secrets in Abuja. Do well to visit.

It wasn't really what I expected place was scanty enough wild animal wasn't. Available though the environ was really cool, omgi got to see ostrich for the first time it actually bigger than we all think it is 🤗🤗the tortise there were hibernating, I wasn't opportune to see the lion🙁🙁i think they have to give out the zoo to private sector for more effective running🤌🤌🤌

Very good idea but a lot still needs to be done like proper care of the animals (to erase the smell), probably feeding too as the animals look too lean, also the place could do with more animals and bring more awareness to the place. Never knew we had a zoo in Abuja.
