A "MUST SEE" FOR VISITORS TO SHANGHAI The Museum is a very well curated collection of amazing items from China's long history. Its free and open every day except Monday. Tour guides will advise that a passport is needed for entry but we were able to enter with no ID at all. You can get a free (English) audio guide - for this you'll need to leave a 400 Yuan refundable deposit (or leave some ID such as drivers licence or ...yes.. your passport!) Its an oasis of cool and quiet and you can easily spend a few hours here marvelling at the age and beauty of the exhibits. Good printed guides in Chinese and English. Guided tours offered but with the audio guide I think you better off doing it yourself and spending time on the things that intrigue you the most. There is a good cafe inside (with good coffee!) and on each floor you will find a souvenir shop with some good (easily packed) treasures to take home :) There is security screening on entry. This museum will not present any problems for people with mobility issues as it has level floors and lifts and escalators. Nearest Metro train station is People's Square (a fair walk just the same which can be tiring in the hot, sticky weather).

🎭Art & Culture: Beautiful collection of traditional and modern Chinese art and culture. The Shanghai museum is a perfectly preserved capsule of the decades and centuries. The museum is free to enter. There is a paid audio guide that is well worth using. The diverse historical lineage of Chinese tradition is explained extremely well with the voice guide, in your language of choice. The use of different media and historical symbolism of this nation’s artwork, is much deeper than face value. If you enjoy historical museums, this is one to add to your list! The museum was also not terribly crowded which made for a deeply personal experience.

A great museum near people's square. The museum is very well laid out and easily accessible. Good gift shop to pick up a souvenir. Exhibits are diverse with paintings, sculptures, calligraphy, artefacts, furniture, jade and much more. If you are in Shanghai you should stop for a visit, probably 2-3 hours would suffice. Free entry.

Great museum. I gave only 4 stats, just because it is very hard to reserve entrance ticket for weekend. The ticket is free, but you need to reserve it via museum website. You will need Chinese telephone number for that. They open slots in week before, but all slots for Saturday and Sunday are immediately reserved. I visited this museum twice. My second visit was not so successful: only several halls were open, others were closed for renewing. Very often there is a special exposition on the ground floor, and it could be not free.

This is one of Ningbo's best kept secrets. It is a hidden gem and few know it, even though it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and located opposite to Ningbo's famous Bund! Surprisingly, the place is overlooked by most lists of things to do in Ningbo. The building was a meeting place for the local sailors' guild.Today it is a museum filled with a multitude of model ships. If you are in town, you should definitely visit the Qing'an Assembly Hall.

This is the most hilarious and informative place. I recommend the first floor for a great laugh. Every type of wine cup imaginable - from extra large, too extra small, shaped like a woman, shaped like private parts, shaped like a dog. :D Find out how drunk people were during the time of Confucius! Also exhibits calligraphy, traditional dress (amazing) and sculptures (also amazing). Very informative, free to enter, english maps and self tours available, toilet facilities, wheelchair accessible, paid parking, and 400m from metro exit.

A must see in Shanghai loved this museum with so much to see inside and so many years of history. Do not miss a visit here if you are in Shanghai. Be careful of people approaching you near here as they try to scam you and take you to a tea house to then rip you off.

This museum gathers traditional and modern Chinese art and culture. The rare cultural pieces are from different decades and centuries. You will not have to pay for entrance. But if you will you can pay for an audio guide for your visit. Inside the building, the combination use of granite, marble and artwork is really inspiring. The museum has a collection of over 120,000 pieces. It has 11 galleries and 3 special temporary exhibition halls. It took me 3 hours to visit. Hopefully, it was not crowded.

Spending time at Shanghai Museum was invaluable. Half day was not enough for someone who's eager to explore the antiques, historic stuffs and arts. Visiting early at the opening time helps you get into the museum quicker and avoid getting stuck in a long queue for more than 1 hour.

Took my two kids there. They were amazed to see some many interesting stuff. A good selection of artefacts - from paintings, calligraphy to furniture, from sculpture to bronze. It's a great place to learn some Chinese Art History. The bilingual display is really helpful for foreigners. We also love the gift shop.

This is a great museum to visit if you are touring Shanghai for a few days. It is free to all And located in the beautiful People’s Park. Not a world class museum but it does showcase a nice cross-section of China’s history. I would recommend going to the urban planning museum first if you are pressed for time in Shanghai as it provides an incredible overview of the city past present and future and provides information on each of the historical neighborhoods you can go tour.

This museum is the largest we have visited in Shanghai so far. We spent a whole day there. It has four stories, with entire wings dedicated to chinese bronze, jade, calligraphy, money, ceramics, furniture and Chinese paintings. The most fun part is its gift shop. It has replicas of the exhibits available to purchase (vases, beautiful tea cups, paintings, even bronze containers) if you can afford it.

Most galleries were closed when we visited on 13 Jan 24, but still worth a visit. Need to reserve tickets for weekends, which are free. However, you do need a local phone number to reserve. We just tried our luck and a kind young man told us to wait for a while, before helping us to book tickets during the next entrance time. Exhibitions were well spaced, can't complain since it's all free!

If you don't speak Chinese, I don't recommend trying to gain entrance without a Chinese speaking friend. Entrance is free but you need a reservation to get in. If you just front up to the museum without a reservation you'll need to find the little kiosk near the exit of the gift shop. Here the person will check your passports and give you an entrance time, but they only release a few times every 30 minutes or so (at least that's how it seemed to work). Once you get past that it's pretty straightforward getting in. Our visit was in winter so some of the exhibits were closed for refurbishing. On the plus side that means it wasn't too crowded.

The Shanghai Museum is a must-visit for a cultural and educational experience. It's known for its impressive collection of artifacts, including porcelain vases, ancient seals, jades, scrolls, and classical Chinese furniture. The museum is free to enter, but it can get crowded during peak times, with queues for security screening. The displays cover different levels and types of history. The museum also has souvenir stalls with a variety of cute and pretty items. Some visitors found the restaurants crowded and opted to skip dining. Overall, it offers a rewarding cultural exposure to Chinese history and art.

(Translated by Google) A great museum with a rich collection. I only visited two exhibition halls in one afternoon. I thought that the bronzes were antiquities covered with patina. As a result, I found that there are many exquisite works in the collection, and there are many animal face patterns, bird patterns, fire patterns, thunder patterns... .They are so cute. People who didn’t think thousands of years ago could make such exquisite artifacts! In the past, history textbooks only read the history of the Western Zhou Dynasty. The Xia Dynasty seems to be a mythical existence? Erlitou culture presents more and more Xia North Korea history. The Ceramic Hall and Ancient Jade Hall are also very exciting. Founded in 1952, the Shanghai Museum remains China's most important museum of classical Chinese art. Set in a modern building that's something of a work of art itself - its unique round top and square base encompasses traditional Chinese concepts of the Earth - the museum's four floors include impressive displays of bronzes and ceramics from prehistoric cultures to the 19th century. Other highlights of the collection include ink drawings, calligraphy and seals, as well as large collections of art from ethnic minorities. It's also home to large collections of jade, coins, furnishings from the Ming and Qing periods (1368-1912), and a well-stocked gift shop.

Big pot shaped building just at the side of famous Peoples Square of Shanghai had enormous collections depicting Chinese history. The building architect was inspired by the priceless big circular tripod pot with two ears bronze vessels called Da Ke Ding from Zhou dynasty (1046-771 BC). Inside of the building looked glistening with granites, marbles & art works. A lot of rooms were exhibiting various periods of Chinese cultures & arts. Basically, it was a modern world class museum in ancient style building showing historical priceless Chinese cultural relics.

(Translated by Google) At least the lower two floors should definitely be visited; the museum will positively surprise everyone who only expects the historical accumulation of dug-out arrowheads to simple vessels that is customary for such houses. The collections impress with the wealth of forms and images from a distant, non-European culture, and it becomes clear that they were way ahead of them in terms of time and content: for example, in the extremely artistic bronze vessels, some of which Already developed a thousand years before our era (i.e. before classical Greek culture), in the Li period idealized in retrospect by Confucius (or his later secretaries), and of course in (much later) porcelain. The small to life-sized figures, some of them from the time before Laotse and the emergence of Buddhism, but also from its heyday, are convincing, on the one hand, if they are intended to scare off the grim reign. But beyond all attitudes to power, others captivate through the expression of inner enlightenment, which in Europe, if at all, was only artistically expressed in the course of the Renaissance.

This museum is free and has many floors with different displays. However, the queue can be scary during the weekends. I’ve meant to come here several times but the queue was super long. Since it’s usually open at 9 am, come before 9 if you come with a group or come during the weekdays.

Overall it was pretty average, 90% of artifacts on show we're in very poor condition and I found myself hunting for something interesting. Although an impressive building it's very large and many items on display just looked like they were there to fill the space. The queue to get in was also very long but I can't really complain for what is a free museum.

A neat experience. There was no entrance fee, but you will have to wait in line to go through security before you can get in. Fortunately, the line moved steadily and fairly fast. There is lots to see inside the museum. We spent a little over an hour just looking at the ceramics because the gallery is extensive and has lots of different kinds of pots, statues, etc. We went through the rest rather quickly: calligraphy, coins, clothing, furniture, paintings, bronze, and Jade. Overall, we spent about 2.5 hours here. The ceramics gallery was my favorite. There's a little gift shop to check out too. And I was impressed with their clean bathrooms (Western toilets here -- not squatters!). The sinks have soap and hot water.

Certainly a top museum for Chinese art. There are four floors of top quality exhibitions. The exhibits, the information provided and the presentation are all top notched. It put the Palace Museum in Taipei to shame. The building itself, shaped like a Ding of Shang bronze, is unique. I have been there several times and each time I learned something. They also have a very good gift shop and book store.

(Translated by Google) Qing'an Hall, also known as Mindong Tianhou Palace and North Hall, is a Tianhou Palace and Guild Hall building in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China. Qing'an Hall is located in Jiangdong Road (original wooden road) in Yinzhou District. It is named after the "Hai Bu Yang Bo Qing An An", the Tianhou Palace and the Guild Hall of the Ningbo North Shipyard in the late Qing Dynasty. The Qing'an Hall was built in the Qing Dynasty (1853). It is the only existing ancient building complex in the south of the Yangtze River with the functions of the Tianhou Palace and the Guild Hall. It is also the only preserved building in Zhejiang Province. The building of the Qing'an Hall is quite unique, and there are records in the book of "Glory and Geek, a crown of architecture". After the reform and opening up, the Anzhen Hall, located on the north side of the Qing'an Hall, moved to the south side of the Qing'an Hall, forming a pattern of two halls in the same area. It is now a Zhedong Maritime Folk Museum. The Qing'an Club was built in the 30th year of Daoguang (1850) and was completed three years later. It was built in 1950 by the ship owner of Shenyang, Shen Fa, in the second year of Song Shaoxi (1191), the temple of Ningbo Tianzhu Palace. Destroyed by bombing). At that time, due to the implementation of the grain shipping, the strength of the North Shipbuilding of Ningbo to operate the North Shipping was gradually expanding, and an independent business headquarters was urgently needed. Therefore, the Qing'an Hall was jointly established by nine influential Beihai seafarers in Cixi, Qixian and Zhenhai. In November of the fourth year of Xianfeng, due to the pirate attack on the North Road, the loss was huge. Cixi people Fei Lunzhen, Sheng Zhizhen and Zhenhai Xiaogang Ren Li Yeting proposed to purchase Western ships to transport food for the ship. The sand boat escorted and received the response from the shipowners. The following year, the ship was named "Baoshun Wheel" and began to escort the sand boat, which was very effective. Dong Pei’s “The Beginning and End of Baoshun Ship” has been preserved in the Qing’an Hall. During the Republic of China, Muxing Road gradually declined, and the Qing'an Hall was also transformed into Muxing Road Primary School. During the Cultural Revolution, the construction of the Qing'an Hall was seriously damaged. In 1997, the cultural department of Ningbo City repaired the Qing'an Guild Hall and restored the shape of the Qing'an Guild Hall as a hall. In June 2001, the Qing'an Guild Hall was included in the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units, and is now the seat of the Zhedong Maritime Folk Museum. The building structure of Qing'an Hall is a typical modern wooden structure. From the outside to the inside are the palace gate, the instrument gate, the front stage, the main hall, the rear stage and the apse. The shape of the double stage is an important feature. The structure adopts the traditional Chinese courtyard structure, which extends forward along the longitudinal axis, and raises the height of each building layer by layer, making the building have a sense of depth. The palace gate of Qing'an Hall is a brick wall gatehouse. The roof is in the form of a beam-shaped hard mountain top with a Sanmatou gable. Most of the wooden components are decorated with Zhujin wood carving technique. The middle of the palace gate is the three characters of the "Tianhou Palace", with 14 figures of brick carvings on both sides. Entering the palace gate is the instrument gate. The roof of the instrument door is in the form of a bucket-type heavy mountain top and a four-headed gable. The main body of the building is supported by six dragon stone columns. Entering the instrument door is the front stage. The roof of the stage is the top of the mountain, with a bucket arch and a sculpted beast. The theme of the stage is wooden structure, and a large number of Zhujin wood carving techniques are used to express the content of the drama. The main hall of the main hall of the Qing'an Hall is in the form of a beam-shaped heavy mountain top with a five-headed gable. In the second time, the tip is a hard-topped mountain with a bucket, and at the same time, it forms a false break on the top of the mountain. Further inside, it is the rear stage, and the shape is basically the same as that of the front stage. The innermost is the apse, and the roof of the Ming Dynasty is a beam-topped heavy mountaintop with a four-headed gable. The second and the tip are the hard tops of the bucket. The apse is the place where the board of directors of the former Qing'an Club is negotiating matters, and it is also the place for the Spring and Autumn industry gatherings. Brick carving is an important artistic feature of the Qing'an Club. Brick carvings are mainly distributed in the gatehouse and gable. On the two sides of the main entrance of the hall, the "Dragon Palace" is a pattern of "Shuanglong Play Pearl". The roof bricks are mostly made of gods and auspicious patterns. The roof of the stage is carved with a dragon, and the ridge is engraved with Kuixing and Ruiyu. The most abundant is the brick carving of Shantou. The focus of the sculpture is on the lower part of the skull, which is used to represent characters and dramatic plots. Stone carving is another feature of the architectural art of the Qing'an Guild Hall. It is represented by a pair of dragons and a pair of phoenix stone peony pillars. According to legend, this group of masts came from Fujian Xinghua (now Putian City) and arrived in Ningbo by water. The image of the dragon in the dragon's scorpion column flies down from the roof with two bats around the column, meaning a blessing. The phoenix peony column is half embedded in the wall, with phoenix up and down and peony in the middle. These pillars are carved from the whole stone, and through the technique of hollowing out, the image of dragon and phoenix flying between the clouds is created. In addition, the stone carvings on the wall base, the Imperial Road, the pillar foundation, etc. also have their own characteristics. Wood carvings are commonly used in the wooden components of the Qing'an Hall. A large number of wood carving techniques are used for the scorpion, the bird, the arch, the baffle, and the vertical column. The wood carvings of the Qing'an Hall use the native Zhu Jin wood carving crafts of Ningbo, and the content is from the landscape to the folk stories. The fixed exhibition of the Qing'an Guild Hall (excluding the Anzhen Guild Hall belonging to the same museum) is the exhibition of China·Ningbo Ship History Exhibition. In addition to the fixed exhibitions, temporary exhibitions are also held on a regular basis. In addition, the important exhibit is Jiang Yalun Wood Rudder. The Qing'an Guild Hall currently has a China-Ningbo Ship History Exhibition, which displays various ships and their models from ancient times to China, especially in Ningbo, including the buildings, the "Wanyu" Shenzhou, the sand boat, the Fuzhou, the Baozhou and China. The first ship of the self-running Baoshun round. The Jiangya shipwreck occurred on December 3, 1948, was the biggest shipwreck in modern China. In 2000, Wenzhou people Wu Jinlong and Chen Xiaoyu fired a fire on the Dongfanghong No. 8 wheel of the Changhang Group (that is, the vessel was rebuilt after the salvage of the original Jiang Yalun), causing the ship to burn down. Wu Jinlong and Chen Xiaoyu sent the only wooden rudder of Jiang Yalun to the collection of the Zhedong Maritime Folk Museum. The wooden rudder is now in the main hall of the Qing'an Hall for people to visit. The general ticket for the Qing'an Clubhouse is 10 yuan, and the children and students are folded in half. Opening hours are from 8:30 to 16:30 daily.

Not what I would expect from a museum. Very small compared to other cities in the world. Displays are only beautiful collections Eg. jade, carving, clothing, furniture, crockery. Etc. Nothing of the people of the past, how they lived, or animals, housing, transport, plants. Seemed like it’s all about, this is what we want you to know of our past, not what really happened.
