This
concert
between
Tsang
Yu-chien
and
the
National
Taiwan
Symphony
Orchestra
(NTSO)
at
the
National
Concert
Hall
on
October
12,
2023
really
amazed
me!
I
accidentally
saw
an
advertisement
on
Facebook,
and
it
happened
to
be
my
birthday,
so
I
quickly
booked
tickets.
Unexpectedly,
there
were
so
many
people
buying
tickets.
There
were
not
many
seats
left
on
the
night
of
the
sale.
If
it
were
one
day
later,
the
consequences
would
be
disastrous.
First
of
all,
let
me
tell
you
about
my
own
big
mistake:
I
mistakenly
thought
NTSO
was
NSO
(National
Symphony
Orchestra)
throughout
the
concert.
The
Glinka
opera
"Luslan
and
Rumila
Overture"
at
the
beginning
of
the
first
half
is
quite
lively,
but
if
you
listen
carefully,
the
timpani
is
a
bit
weak
and
lacks
the
sense
of
authority
and
weight
that
the
timpani
should
have.
The
brass
playing
is
lively,
but
Still
almost
means>
It
is
to
play
the
brass
pipe
to
the
kind
of
loudness
and
intensity
that
fully
resonates
and
is
even
about
to
break.
The
second
piece
of
the
first
half
was
the
Tchaikovsky
Violin
Concerto
that
Zeng
Yuqian
competed
with
the
orchestra,
which
was
the
concerto
he
played
when
he
won
the
award.
The
sound
of
the
violin
seemed
to
be
smaller,
and
of
course
the
volume
of
the
entire
orchestra
was
also
suppressed.
Many
details
of
the
violin
decorations
required
careful
listening.
Later,
I
found
a
possible
answer
from
the
program
list.
The
piano
Zeng
Yuqian
is
playing
now
is
A
private
collector
generously
lent
him
the
famous
1735
Nicolo
Gagliano
piano,
and
the
famous
piano
Zeng
Yuqian
lent
to
him
in
the
Tchaikovsky
Competition
was
Guarneri's
"Tarisio".
I
secretly
speculated:
If
you
use
the
current
This
violin
may
not
be
able
to
win
in
a
competition.
After
all,
there
is
no
need
for
the
orchestra
to
match
the
volume
of
the
contestants'
violins
during
the
competition;
this
is
by
no
means
an
indication
of
the
merits
of
the
two
violins,
but
rather
their
suitability
for
the
occasion.
One
of
the
reasons
for
the
popularity
of
the
Stradici
piano
is
that
the
shape
of
the
piano
and
bow
makes
the
volume
louder,
which
is
in
line
with
the
trend
of
the
audience
at
that
time
changing
from
aristocrats
to
middle-class
civilians!
Nicolo
Gagliano's
strengths
are
revealed
in
Tsang
Yuqian's
four
Bach
encores,
and
his
voice
is
more
feminine,
reserved
and
beautiful.
I
can
only
tell
that
the
first
piece
of
the
encore
is
the
Gavott
from
Bach's
Lute
Suite
No.
4
(BWV1006a)
After
the
intermission,
there
were
a
few
empty
seats.
Maybe
some
people
came
specifically
to
listen
to
Zeng
Yuqian's
performance.
The
second
half
is
Rachmaninoff's
Symphonic
Dances
Op.45.
This
is
Rachmaninoff's
last
work.
This
work
is
different
from
the
romantic
and
sentimental
works
that
the
world
is
familiar
with.
It
is
also
the
first
time
for
me,
who
is
ignorant,
to
listen
to
this
piece.
.
But
this
song
from
NTSO
amazes
me!
From
the
first
sound
of
the
timpani,
it
was
like
a
reincarnated
tiger
coming
out
of
the
wood,
with
both
a
sense
of
authority
and
weight.
The
wind
music
that
was
brought
out
no
longer
had
the
unfinished
meaning
of
the
first
half.
There
was
no
reservation
at
all.
The
quality
of
the
string
section
was
already
quite
good.
To
be
honest,
the
performance
of
this
piece
of
music,
the
color
and
intensity
of
the
music
are
enough
to
compete
with
or
even
surpass
the
NSO.
After
this
performance,
there
will
be
one
performance
in
Tokyo
and
Osaka,
Japan,
which
should
make
the
Japanese
audience
re-evaluate
Taiwan's
symphony
orchestra.
At
this
point,
we
have
to
mention
guest
conductor
Ainars
Rubikis.
He
should
have
made
a
lot
of
contributions
to
such
a
wonderful
performance,
and
he
also
gave
considerable
encouragement
and
inspiration
to
the
orchestra.
The
applause
at
the
curtain
call
was
actually
very
warm.
Originally,
I
wanted
to
stand
up
and
give
a
standing
ovation,
but
when
I
saw
The
first
violinist
stood
up
and
gave
up.
In
fact,
NSTO's
performance
really
deserves
a
big
round
of
applause!
