One of the highlights of my vacation to Athens was going to Lexikopoleio. I specifically made time to go to this store on the hunt for some good learning material for Modern Greek. I was assisted within seconds of entering the store and, upon hearing that I was struggling to learn the language, the shopkeeper immediately switched to slow Greek, started helping me with my mistakes, and found three texts that I could use to improve. I had a lovely conversation (mostly all in Greek) with the woman sitting at the desk, and I left smiling from ear to ear. That level of hospitality is so rare. If you have the time and are looking for book in Greek, English, French, German, or Italian (and perhaps others), I highly recommend this shop.

A true Pagkrati jewel that welcomes locals and tourists alike with its broad selection of new and second-hand books in Greek, English and other languages. Bookstore owner was charming and suggested great reads (in English) from contemporary Greek authors.

Independent bookstore with a great selection of multilingual books, both from small and mainstream publishers. Lovely people warmly willing to introduce different authors and titles. Lastly, the good taste for background music makes the whole experience definitely remarkable.

Great local bookstore highly recommend - really good collection of books in English, including a signature collection of Greek masterpieces, and friendly staff who are more than happy to answer questions and guide you through the collection. Couldn’t recommend highly enough and great cafes and restaurants nearby if you want to start reading straight away. Picked up a cute journal too!!

Apart from the excellent collection of books in both English and French, the owner and staff in this shop are extremely friendly. I was given the warmest welcome and had the opportunity to play the piano in their shop. Don't hesitate to strike up a conversation with the staff!

Wonderful bookstore with unforgettable atmosphere and wast collection of titles. Coming from Slovakia and owning a rather large collection of approx. 1000 books myself, I was amazed to find several gems in the philosophy/history/political science section, which are really hard to find. Bookstore even offers to find any book you wish for you, so if you’re from Athens and looking to get a book you cannot find, pay a visit here. Special mention to wonderful staff which made us feel very welcome. I wish the best of luck to this store.

A wonderfully well stocked corner bookshop in Athens, with a big selection for both children and adults in English, French and Greek. Run by a kind lady who made us feel welcome, even with two children excitedly perusing the books. A calm place for us to look for meaningful books to swap with family members on Christmas Eve, in the Icelandic tradition where you read books and eat chocolate the day before Christmas.

The kind of bookstore where you want to spend the whole day (and to sleep there if possible)! Impressive selection of books about Greece and/or by Greek writers in English, French and other languages (Spanish for one), books in English and French and kids books also.

I visit this bookshop every time I am in Athens. The pleasure of perusing the shelves and finding the next literary universe to discover connects me to the spirit of reading from days gone by, before screens and online shopping. Life is better with a book in your hands and this shop has plenty to choose from. This is truly an international bookstore, without a doubt they have best selection of French books in Athens.

They were super welcoming when we arrived!! Diamadis and Catherine were very kind and considerate. We were given a brief tour and introduction to the bookstore. The shelves are also so cool because they slide 😂 Their selection is superb!! And they’ve made sections for english and french books (and a lot of others) about Greece, while the second floor is dedicated to all books about anything! I got myself a journal from there too 🥰 Will def recommend to friends, family, or anyone visiting Greece 💕

It is almost like the library of Alexandria. There is all the books u can find. A huge selection of books in English, some of which are incredibly rare and are reasonably priced. We have worse book stores in DC. This one has Althusser, Badiou and other cool dudes in English. Also, a bunch of used books are there for around 4€, which is just amazing. I have literally stumbled upon it while looking for a mini market, will never regret!

Truly a hidden gem in Athens. It is hidden and looks quite unassuming from the outside but do not underestimate it. The store has a wide range of books in Greek, English and French neatly organised. There is also a section with rare and antique books. But for me the true selling point was the staff. You can tell the people working there have heart for their store. They are helpful and kind. Their love and enthusiasm for books and store is nothing other than contagious. It's hard to leave the store with a bad feeling and at least a couple books in your possession.

Lexikopoleio is a great bookstore. It is not located in the touristic aria but certainly worth a visit! You can buy books in many different languages and the ownership are very nice and help you well. They also take care of some stray cats just outside the shop. Go there!

Great bookstore in Athens! Vast book selection in Greek, English and French (I think Spanish too..). The shop owners are very knowledgeable and can speak French and English. Lovely shop in a beautiful neighborhood, you’ll find everything you need and more.

Such a great find. A bookstore with a wide range of literature featuring multiple different languages. They offer a selection of English books which is both diverse and full of the classics. The staff is also very kind and helpful. Would highly recommend!

The best bookstore I've ever been to. Everyone is super nice and so willing to help you. They explain where everything is by the door and while I'm usually a little anxious about asking a question, I didn't have that problem here. Even though it looks like a small store, they have a lot of books in a lot of languages. There's something for everyone. The owner is lovely and I think we spent about 20 minutes just talking to her about multiple toppics. She even gave us the names of the neighbourhood's cats. Honestly the best bookstore I've ever been to and if I visit Athens again, this place would be my first stop.

Very friendly and helpful owners. I always pop into this store when in the neighborhood! A very well stocked international bookshop. Perfect selection of Greek and English authors - very well picked! Also a great childrens’ collection (both Greek & English).

The store is very beautiful. However, I was really disappointed when I took a book [in english] to the till and found out it was 20euro, when it still had a sticker from Public [a larger store] on the back for 12.99. This was a small paperback book and never have I been charged so much for such a book, even at an independent bookstore [which I always support], especially given there was nothing new nor special about this book and it was clearly previously sold elsewhere. It's a real shame I'll no longer be able to support them and that they aren't doing more to make english language books more accessibly available in a city where this price is the same as 4 hours wage.

This was a lovely bookshop. Great selection of English books and also French. Some newspapers. Some great second hand classics as well. We even got a guided tour of the selection before being left to our own devices.

OMG WHAT AN AMAZING BOOKSTORE!!! They had a lot of great books, and the people are so nice. They speak English, French and Greek. So it’s a great place to go if you are in Athens for a visit. Also make sure to say hi to the cats there!

One of the best small bookshops in Athens. Fine selection of fiction and nonfiction titles in various languages. Very friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, and set in an amazing neighborhood with lots of coffee shops where you can read whatever you bought at Lexikopoleio.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Solid selection of English language books in addition to Greek and also a fairly large French section.

Amazing bookstore! Very welcoming. The staff speaks many different languages and there is a plethora of books in Greek, English, and French with a smaller selection of Italian and Spanish books. I especially enjoyed the selection of bilingual editions. I spent an hour here and walked away with 5 books, but I would have purchased many more. The staff gave thoughtful recommendations. What I appreciated most is that they handed me a few different poetry books to look at and emphasized that I should take the time to look through them and decide what mood I was in and what books I was most interested in. There were also some very cute cats. :)

My husband and I visited last week during our vacation, sheepishly looking for some English books whilst on holiday. We were greeted warmly immediately, and the nice guy at the counter offered us a tour. He showed us around, told us about the layout, and where to find what kind of books. He asked us about what we were looking for, and he tried to help me find a book. When they didn't have, he offered to order it for us, but alas, I would be gone by the time it came in. We spent at least an hour browsing this cozy and inviting place anyway, and left with three books-- two of Aristotle's works in English, and one by Epictetus also in English. The service was obviously outstanding, but just being there itself was a real delight. We felt no pressure to buy or leave, but rather invited to linger and let our curiosity draw us further into the bookstore's further corners. From graphic novels to works of philosophy and science, old Agatha Christie to travel and good books, this place is a treasure trove of Greek, English, French, and other language books. A real gem of a place with fantastically warm staff.

Lovely bookstore with a wide selection of books in many languages! I was especially glad to see a large amount of books in French and in English. There are vintage and used copies (priced under 10€) as well as new books, also a separate section of books about Greece and Greek mythology ;) The staff is friendly, prepared to help, but not hovering over you to make it uncomfortable. 10/10 recommend! 💌

Lovely bookstore, lovely people! The owner immediately offered to show me around, and then helped me find all the books I was looking for and more! Great English selection, mostly new books, and in other languages tons of new and used books! Edit: Since writing this review, I've been to at least 2 dozen Greek bookstores. This one remains 100% the best. The staff were knowledgeable, the selection was fantastic, the atmosphere was great!

The most amazing bookshop in Pangrati, Athens. The selection of books in english were by far the most interesting collection of books I've ever encountered in a bookshop. I have no doubt it will be the same for the greek & french books which are in there too. I'm only here for a few weeks but so many books I want to buy each time I go. Well worth a visit.

If you love books this is a great place to visit in Athens. It's easy to get to by tram and a quick 5 minute walk from Stadou. I found books on Greece, philosophy, periodicals, fiction, some nice cards and book bags. I also loved how quickly I was invited in and made to feel welcome. The gorgeous fat bookstore cats were the finishing touch!

Such a gift to stumble across this place on my first day in Athens after arriving from the UK. I was welcomed into the store with such lovely hospitality & shown where to find the English section, and a very joyful person working there (I sadly did not get his name), recommended me this wonderful book- Women Who Run with the Wolves, & I am enjoying reading it perhaps more than I have any other book, an absolute joy. Thank you, this is a brilliant book store.

This bookstore is everything you'll need. It has an enormous variety of books. Vintage, dictionaries, history, encyclopedias, and you might even find some contemporary titles like "If We Were Villains", "Babel" and some of Colin Hoover's stuff. It has books in English and in French and the prices are more than acceptable! The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy.
