I do not know too much about the history happened in Turkey, but this gorgeous Mosque could tell the golden time before. In terms of the beauty of the architecture, the arc and dome vault presents the most classic Mosque style, great heritages for the upcoming generations to enjoy and learn. It is a place you cannot miss in Istanbul.

Great architecture. Amazing place to visit during your trip to Istanbul. We went there since the blue mosque was under renovation . It’s very peaceful to look at the sea from the lawns of the building. Do visit it when you’ve time in Istanbul .

and yet another mosque, but this one I think after the blue one was the 2nd I liked most. There is less people there, much easier to enter and it has spectacular view at the City Centre.

Beautiful! One of the must-see Mosques in Istanbul. There is a nice view as well that over looks the Asian side. Also, a beautiful cemetery and Sultan Suleyman's and Roxelana'd Burial Tombs. Some tips for tourists - it's free to enter, there is a tourist entrance, don't go during prayer times, it'll be closed (but it'll give you time to admire the cemetery and Burial tombs. They have skirts and scarfs to borrow; no one can have knees or shoulders showing, and woman must cover their hair. If you borrow these items, you'll be asked to leave your shoes outside with the attendant. Otherwise, take off your shoes before entering and put them in the shoe shelf on the left / right side as you enter.

While perhaps not as famous as the Blue Mosque also known as the Sultan Ahmed l Mosque, the Suleymaniye Mosque is definitely worth a visit. It's one of the biggest mosques in Istanbul but for all that, it doesn't attract the crowds that the Blue Mosque does. The first time I visited it was on a very hot day in September 2017 and to sit in a cool and peaceful place and just relax was a welcome diversion. The architecture is simply exquisite and you cannot help but admire its beauty regardless of your religion or beliefs.

SULEYMANİYE MOSQUE AND SOCIAL COMPLEX This building is a social complex constructed by Mimar Sinan (Sinan the Architect) on the order of Suleiman the Magnificent (1550-1557). The Süleymaniye Mosque is at the center of the social complex constructed on a high hill facing Bosphorus and the Golden Horn. The social complex includes a mosque, dâruttıb (medical school), madrasas, dârulkurrâ (Quran recitation school), elementary school, Turkish bath, imaret (public soup kitchen), bîmârhâne (asylum), bazaar, tombs of Suleiman the Magnificent and Hurrem Sultan. Ebussu'ûd Efendi, a prominent Ottoman scholar, laid the first stone of the foundation. This social complex, which Mimar Sinan described as his semiskilled work, was completed in a very short time, which was a great success in that era. The mosque was opened to worship on August 16th, 1557 by Mimar Sinan with a ceremony participated by Suleiman the Magnificent and all of the high dignitaries. The Suleymaniye Mosque: This building has a central location in Istanbul. The harim is rectangular with its yard and its dimensions are 68x63m. The flat pendentive dome, whose diameter is 26,50m and height is 53m, rests on four arches and has thirty two round-arched windows on its pedestals. One of the columns was brought from Topkapı Palace, another one from Kıztaşı, another one from Alexandria and another one from Baalbek. Two semi-domes are placed over the mihrab and the entrance portal. Flanking the portal on both sides are three rows of lancet galleries, each stands on two marble columns with muqarnas capitals. The mosque is illuminated by 138 windows and has an acoustics quality and ventilation system that is clearly the work of an architectural genius. Taking into consideration the acoustics, all the domes double domes. 64 jars which are made of terracotta are placed into the main dome. These jars are also placed on the corners of small domes and under the stalactites. There are 64 cubes placed into the main dome and into its corners and the stalactites. The floor of the mosque has holes wer made of bricks to reflect sound. The inscriptions on the walls were written by a renowned calligrapher Ahmed Karahisåri and his student Hasan Çelebi. Two of the mosque's four minarets are on the two corners of the inner courtyard's north facade and they have two balconies each. The other two minarets have three balconies each and are on the corners of the rear facade.

Probably one of the most important mosques of Istanbul, designed and built by Sinan The Architect in the name of one of the well known sultans of Ottomans, Sultan Suleiman. It's located in a beautiful sight looking over to the Golden Horn, Haliç and Galata Tower (Pera). The mosque is one of the best examples of classical ottoman architecture. It has a huge garden, surrounded by some nice stores. There is a design museum, a row of stores recently opened to Mimar Sinan Street underneath it. Must see place and it's not as crowded as any place located near Topkapı Palace etc.

Best mosque I have visited in Istanbul! Superb view, not that crowded, well maintained and quite chill. Inside, there is a tablet which gives more context to parts of the mosque. Within the area, there are also several legit eateries that sell doners and kebabs (delicious and cheap).

Beautiful Mosque to visit, its located 15mins away from the Grand bazaar, i personally walked to it, i got the chance to discover shops and markets surrounding the Mosque. There is not entry fee or tickets to enter everyone is welcome to visit it at anytime, at the garden you can enjoy the city view of Istanbul and the cruises, its surrounded by domes and beautiful scenery of the city. You can also find the sultan’s tomb next to the mosque and other graveyards which were beautifully carved with nice writings.

A stunning Ottoman era masterpiece. Totally amazed with the architecture and design and just impressed with how it was constructed without any technology. Interior acoustics is so well designed that one can see why loud speakers were not needed in those days. The Turkish people must really be applauded for the manner in which the entire masjid and grounds are maintained.???

A must-see place when visiting Istanbul, extremely beautiful sights to see, amazing architecture from the ancient Ottoman times. The mosque is free to enter, just take off your shoes first😉. There are also lots of stray dogs and cats that come here to cool down on the marble floors, and to get some food and water too, they're all friendly.

A must place for religious and non. The architectural work itself was extremely advanced for the time the mosque was built. Perfect to see at the sunset, so you can also enjoy the view over the city while listening to the preyers being sung from the minarets

I do not know too much about the history of Turkey. Beautiful and breath taking to see how much work been done on details. Had seen it through documentries and pictures for years. One of the best sites u must visit while you are in Istanbul. The mosque is great and all the area around is so interesting. The view is amazing. Old buildings with interesting architecture. State of the art, historic, beautiful and big mosque designed by famous Turkish architect Mimar Sinan. So I recommend to you to take a walk , you will not regret it.

Süleymaniye Mosque, perched atop one of Istanbul's hills, is an architectural masterpiece that left me in awe. Constructed by the legendary Mimar Sinan, the mosque's sheer size is astonishing, a testament to the grand vision behind its creation. From the moment you approach, the meticulous design and construction become apparent. Every detail, from the intricate ornamentation to the carefully crafted domes, reflects a harmonious blend of artistry and engineering. The magnitude of Süleymaniye Mosque's beauty is truly humbling. The location on the hill offers more than just architectural splendor; it provides a breathtaking panoramic view of Istanbul. Gazing out from the mosque's grounds, the city unfolds before you in all its glory, making the visit a sensory delight. Süleymaniye Mosque is not merely a place of worship; it's a cultural and historical gem that encapsulates the brilliance of Ottoman architecture. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply seeking a serene place with a stunning view, this mosque is an absolute must-visit.

Great place with soul and wonderful view! Enter is free! You can't enter in mosque when the time of prayer is, so check the schedule. When I was there it was 13-14h, but they are praying 5 times per day. You can't come to mosque on that time but that's just one part of monument, you can see all the monument by the time when pray finish. It's on the top of the one part of city, so go by walk and enjoy in tiny colourful streets.

Stunningly beautiful views and wonderfully historic mosque with multiple sultans buried on site. Free bathrooms was a nice plus as well. Right past one of the best bazaars in Istanbul so one can combine both fun browsing and shopping with the beauty and history of the mosque. There is no charge for admission and the grounds are exceptionally well kept. The Sultan Suleyman associated with Roksolana story is part of the charm of the place if one is familiar with the story, which most in Ukraine and surrounding countries will be.

This place is quiet and clean. Come early morning in your own and you have an opportunity to be in this huge mosque alone, I can hardly describe the feeling. Do not forget to take a picture of Golden Horn from the wall as well as visit the tomb of Sultan Suleiman and his wife Alexandra Lisowska, their story is breathtaking.

Stunning mosque with a beautiful courtyard. The interior is out of this world. We arrived at 8-45 and were the only people there to start with. Get there early before the crowds arrive. İt was a walk uphill to get there but was definitely worth it, an absolutely beautiful mosque inside and out. We could see this mosque from the terrace of our hotel ( Bonami Hotel) it looked superb both morning and night

One of the most beautiful historic buildings in Istanbul. Although currently being restored, it was still a treat to the eyes to visit this place. We couldn’t get enough of the beautiful architectural details. It’s located across from the Hagia Sophia so you can visit both spots in one day.

One of the most beautiful mosques of Istanbul, which has a very welcoming atmosphere. There is also a beautiful view over the city. Be careful of prayer times when visiting, as you are not able to visit the mosque as a non-muslim. You are able to store your shoes indoors once you have taken them off.

What a beautiful and spiritual place. Walking around the outside of that mosque takes you on a journey back in time. If you're Muslim, make sure to do any religious task there and truly embrace the rich history captured in the walls surrounding you. Aside from the incredible architecture, I have to mention the walk up to the mosque is a work out as it requires you to go up a very long, and steep hill. Be weary of that.

Very nice and beautiful place. My favorite mosque. The ablution rooms, toilets are clean and for free. It has really nice view on the see, Bosphorus, Çamlıca kulesi, Galata kulesi. And it has the grave of Sultan Süleyman, Hürrem Sultan, Valide Sultan. And an overview about their lifes in both English and Turkish.

One of the greatest spots I visited in Istanbul ! A very peaceful garden where you can have a rest, grab a snack and spend the afternoon time. You will enjoy the air freshness, the view and tranquility. The mosque area is very welcoming, don’t hesitate to visit it, “appropriate” clothes are available at its entrance. We have been allowed to assist to the prayer time and after. The architecture of the monument is very beautiful, made by Mimar Sinan a genius of his time. If you like peaceful places, I recommend to spend a few hours there to read a book or let the kids enjoy the huge and safe space. It’s free, enjoy it!

This mosque was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan. An inscription specifies the foundation date as 1550 and the inauguration date as 1557. The mosque was built by the Ottoman sultan Suleyman (r. 1520–1566) and the mosque was named after him. The mosque is located at the highest end of the city of Istanbul. It is designed to glorify the sultan.Construction of this mosque began before 1550 and was nearly completed in 1557.Sultan Suleyman used Mimar Sinan (d. 1588), the greatest engineer and architect of his time for the work of this mosque. The architecture and craftsmanship of the mosque are very beautiful and attract many worshipers and visitors.

A wonderful mosque built in the 1500s Sits right above the Bosphorus, so a great view of Istanbul. Resting place of Suleman the Great and his family. Inside a vast dome with a serene atmosphere. You have to remove your shoes and women should cover their knees, shoulders and head. Outside a cool, marble courtyard and places to eat and drink. Free entry. Quiet in March, but could be heaving in the summer. Located behind the Grand Bazaar, near the University. Highly recommended

A visitée absolument.

Beautiful Mosque. We were recomended to visit here instead of the Blue Mosque which is undergoing restoration at this time. The Mosque itself is very pretty and the surrounding gardens offer fantastic views over the Bosphorus. Just remember if you want to enter the Mosque to check prayer times and to wear appropriate clothing (hair and knees covered for girls/ knees covered for men).

Suleiman the Magnificent Mosque or Sulaymaniyah Mosque. The mosque is located on the third hill of the seven hills of Istanbul in the heart of the Sulaymaniyah complex, which consists of a cemetery, four schools, a hospital, a hotel, a minaret, shops, bathrooms, a Quranic school, and the mausoleum of the architect Sinan. The whole group supplies a water supply system.

Beautiful mosque. To the side of the mosque are amazing views of Istanbul and the water. Then inside, the mosque is very grand. Look out for the numerous ostrich eggs - a very unique feature. Would avoid prayer times and Fridays. They also provide headscarves and long skirts for those unprepared for the dress code.

Amazing views of the bosphorus especially during sun set. Perfect for taking photos. At the time of writing, I think its worth visiting this mosque instead of the blue mosque as its under construction and can't see much there. The toilets aren't exactly free and they charge 2 lira, however they were pretty clean. Architecturally speaking, the mosque is magnificent inside and out, a marvel to look at, as were the moseleums. Well worth the visit.

Small mosque that doesn't have many visitors, so it's good to visit when others are busy. Even if you don't like to visit mosques you should go to this one since our has amazing views of both sides of the city (European and Asian)

Absolutely beautiful mosque, much less crowded than AyaSofia or Blue Mosque but not less stunning. It's definitely worth spending the time if you're in the neighborhood. You also get a very nice view over the Bosphorus as it is located uphill

Amazing area with good food and other small pockets to tour and see. Definitely recommend checking out this mosque while you’re checking the other tourist spots out like the spice market and grand bazaar. You’ll have to tell the guy you’re going in to pray if you go during praying hours and want to see the inside.

State of the art, historic, beautiful and big mosque designed by famous Turkish architect Mimar Sinan. This mosque has more capacity of worshipers than Blue mosque. Beautiful courtyard. After prayers, imam recites Quran in amazy voice. Must visit place in Istanbul.

Designed by the famous imperial architect Mimar Sinan, the mosque construction started in 1550 and continued for 7 years. It is located in the old town and a magnificient view of the Golden Horn can be seen from its garden. You can reach by bus and tram. For tram get off at the laleli-university stop. Close to the mosque, you can find a famous traditional fermented winter drink: Boza.

The most spectacular mosque in Istanbul. Suggest you to talk with volunteers in the mosque as they can tell you numerous interesting facts about the mosque and different places in the city. Also, there is a view point behind the mosque so you can take photos of the new city of Istanbul and Bosphorus.

Reminiscing about the Suleymaniye Mosque in İstanbul evokes a sense of awe and reverence. From the moment I set foot in its imposing complex, I found myself surrounded by a feeling of grandeur that transcends time. The elegant Ottoman architecture soars towards the sky, and every detail of the mosque seems like a tribute to human vision and skill. The domes and minarets, adorned with intricate designs, bear witness to the artistic ingenuity that flourished in times past.

Beautiful mosque with ancient history. Built in the 1700's it has a lovely architecture. As a non muslim there's not much to do but it was beautiful and peaceful inside and around the grounds. Some lovely views of the city from here as it's on a hill. We visited around 9.30am on a Sunday and it was quiet though large tourist groups started to arrive as we were leaving.

Nice place to visit, there is a quieter atmosphere here than other mosques in Istanbul. It feels good and it's beautiful. The tomb of the Sultan, his family, of Hürrem was impressive to see.
