(Translated by Google) The National Martyr’s Shrine was a Hualien Harbor Shrine during the Japanese occupation period. The current building is a Chinese palace-like architectural style, with yellow-painted roofs, red and green cornices, the arrangement of carved beams, the pillars of Panlong and Phoenix, and wooden pushers. The doors and windows are really antique. National heroes, soldiers and martyrs such as Zheng Chenggong, Liu Yongfu and Qiu Fengjia are worshipped in the Martyr’s Shrine. There are also pavilions and stone tables beside the elegant and splendid buildings for people to take a rest in the cool. The Shangzhi Bridge leading to the Martyr’s Shrine is also very interesting. Each stone lion on the bridge has a different shape and different styles. Under the bridge is the Meilun Stream with green grass on the riverside. Appreciating the towering Central Mountains, if there are clouds, it is even more indescribable. (Translated by Google) Why do the horses of Japanese shrines have the emblem of the Republic of China on the copper horsescarves? The bellyband was originally engraved with the social emblem of the Hualien Harbor Shrine (the pentagonal badge on the inside of the Hualien Harbor Hall; the sixteen petal chrysanthemum pattern on the outside). , That is, to dismantle and transform the shrine’s emblem of the bronze horses and stone lanterns and fire bags of the shrine. At the time when the party-state was not divided, it was originally changed to the "KMT Party Logo". Later, in the 98th year of the Republic of China (2009), intentional people protested the intentional splashing of paint on horses by the party-state totem. After that, the county government also changed the party emblem into the "national emblem" so far. This bronze horse is a bronze horse dedicated to "East Taiwan Endless Club" (the predecessor of Hualien SME Bank). At that time, a god horse that was quite sacred was not allowed to climb the copper horse at will; but after the war, the heroic posture on the horse was a common memory for many people.

Located at the foot of Meilun Mountain, one of the entrances to Meilun Mountain Park. Built in 1916, it was the Hualien Port Shrine during the Japanese occupation. Later in 1980, it was transformed into a martyr's shrine following the architectural style of northern China. National heroes, soldiers and martyrs such as Zheng Chenggong, Liu Yongfu and Qiu Fengjia are worshipped in the Martyr ’s Shrine. This building complex is now under restoration because of serious damage by earthquake. It used to be Japanese Shinto shrine but was transformed into Chinese palace style Martyrs Shrine around 80s. It is worth walking here after meals to overlook Hualien city.

(Translated by Google) The original site of Martyr's Shrine was the shrine of the Japanese occupation period. It was completed on August 19, 1915. It was mainly dedicated to the Hualien Port God in the Republic of China. It was rebuilt in the Republic of China in the past seventy years as a martyrdom of the northern Chinese architecture. The interior is supplied by Zheng Chenggong, Liu Yongfu, Qiu Fengjia, etc. National heroes and soldiers, and the people are martyrs. The main hall of the Huangwa Zhu Wall is elegantly built and full of solemn atmosphere. There is a pavilion and stone tables and chairs for visitors to enjoy the cool weather. It can also climb the Meilun Mountain and overlook the Hualien City. I visited it once in high school, and the environment is solemn. There are many people who often see the elderly in this sport, or the uncles of the people who come here to pay their respects. They seem to have stories that are difficult to explain, or even more worthy of the martyrs who are worthy of remembrance. . . . (Translated by Google) The Hualien Harbor Shrine, which was originally a Japanese-era militarism, was transformed into a loyal shrine in the Republic of China in 1981. According to locals, it was very gloomy before the reconstruction, just like the scene in the Japanese ghost film, so I am very satisfied with the upright appearance of the northern palace after the reconstruction. The view is very good, it is the commanding height of Hualien City, suitable for overlooking the city of Hualien, and the street lights are also beautiful at night. The Great Hualien Earthquake in 2018 shook a large crack in the main hall. It is currently closed for the time being and is expected to resume as soon as possible.

Like people have said, a bit of a tacky Taiwan tourist attraction, but good spot to visit nonetheless. Just manage expectations. Ice cream was delicious, some cool pictures to take with the old buildings and the train in front.

There weren't much for us to do there. It's a nice pit stop for food, ice cream, and coffee; however, aside from that there wasn't much else. It gets 3 stars because the dessert and coffee wasn't bad. The kids fed the fish and bought some souvenirs, so that gave it a couple stars above 1.

A beautifully sited disused sugar factory with multiple sales outlets and covered seating. A road train takes you on the grand tour. Only you don't see much of the sugar manufacturing plant, probably just as well because what could be seen was quite decrepit.

In The morning it was not so crowded. We enjoyed tasty and local ice cream. They will provide you with English menu and also there are pictures on tv there. The surrounding is lovely and you can see how sugar factory have worked in the past. But for my personal point of view there can be done more to be really interesting place worth of visit - there was missing info table about what to do there, what to see there, some program or whatever…

The place is buzzing with activity, loads of people are going in line for the famed ice cream/popsicles they sell here. Other than that, there’s also sausage stands, music, and pretty good scenery. Overall a great place to eat and rest, even though seats can be a bit hard to find with the tourist activity. Generally a good place to stop by, if you don’t mind the people there. If you come here to feed the fishes, make sure to come early as later in the day they grow tired of the food and don’t eat much anymore.

Interesting, there were no people whatsoever. You can either enter through the front arc or from the back via that odd "amusement park" on the hill behind the shrine. There's really not much here but it still makes for a decent spot for some nice photos and it can be easily reached by bicycle. If you ride to Ci Xing Tan, you can take the cycling route along the coast on the way there then take the main road into the city on the way back and stop here.

Kind of a typical Taiwanese tourist place. The tacky usual with loads of local Taiwanese people. There is a tacky pond with some fish to feed and some shops around to buy some traditional aboriginal clothing. The gift shop had nothing interesting to buy but at least it had some normal snacks for you to pick up for the road trip. Can't really call it a destination, it's more of a rest stop. The ice cream was.....interesting. I got the moon light one which had yolk in it with vanilla and peanut pieces. I thought the yolk would be like a hardened yolk but no..it was actual runny raw yolk. Tip : let it stay on the ice cream and freeze before eating it. I did not get sick from that so that was surprising. 😜 Other Taiwanese flavor ice cream got raving reviews from my friends. Old timey taste. 👍🏿

If you want to learn about the history of sugar production in Hualien County, this sugar factory is the place to go. The complex is home to restored wooden buildings from the 1895-1945 Japanese colonial era (accomodation in tatami rooms available). There are information exhibits about the factory’s history, a popular ice-cream shop, and much more.

The Hualien Tourism Sugar Factory is big and hard to describe, so we will list pros and cons and get to a final result. Pros: The ice cream may be more expensive than before, but still is relatively cheap ($50 a cone) and still tastes great. Many objects that were used in the factory are in display in the museum. The railroad tracks and the train is outside the area and make great pictures. Cons: You can’t get in the actual place and only get a bad view of the factory. There are many many black mosquitoes but this cannot be blamed on the owner. There is no air conditioning so I would not recommend it in the summer Final result: 5-.5 (mosquitoes)-.5 (air conditioning)-1(no access)=3 stars

A nice little shopping area. It was a sugar factory before and had been converted to museum, shopping, and hotel. There is a large koi pond as well and i always like seeing koi. The tree with many orchids was beautiful. It is dated, needs some updating, better restaurants, more connections to its history and better signage.

Visitors have the choice of choosing from a variety of ice-cream flavors which are also produced at the place. You also seize the breathtaking experience of feeding the colorful fish in the pond with ice-cream

It's boring, I thought it would be funner. The ice-cream is good but nothing special.

Tourist sugar factory ice cream is special here, although the taste is fair but it’s nice to try this ice cream together with the Taiwanese sausage from the vendors here. You can also stroll a bit in this area.

Ice cream was great! Huge selections. Not overly sweet. The hotel is unique, combining old Japanese housing with modern convenience.

One of the best service and hotel facilities. Rooms are very clean and neat. Beautiful Japanese style living. Best experience. Except the breakfast variety can be more. But overall very good hotel.

The (Hwa Tang) ice cream shop cannot make it. The ice cream is like 70% inert material & only 30 active ingredient. Taste so bland. When your kids and spouse all say world lousiest ice-cream. You know they mean it.

A sleepy town. The train that was suppose to offer tour around the sugar factory was suspended and there were nothing else for us to do except for food or have ice cream. Not friendly for self guided tourists. Not hotel.

Most people know that ice creams is the most popular at this sugar refinery. But there are more things you can dig actually. It's great that they have a train to show you around. The train will take you to the past. Go and experience yourself.
