Small but complete just enough to give good representation of the period. We enjoyed it

Really nice little museum. Most of the expositions have also english texts, so you can learn about the great fire in 1904 and the history of the town in general.

Only complaint is that the basement with the World War II displays did not have enough English signage. One of the best city museums that we visited on our recent cruise of Norway and Iceland. We loved the covered rescue boat in the attic.

Great museum. If you are interested in history of Alesund, this is the place to go. Very informative and interesting. My favorite museum of our trip to Norway. If traveling as a family, there is a map with stickers where you have to place the items in the correct rooms, so the whole family is engaged. It looks small on the outside, but the place is crammed with information and items, such as an original telephone from Alexander Graham Bell which was used to make the first phone call in Europe. Highly recommended.

A tiny museum for this historic, compact town. Many pictures and artifacts from the past are perfectly restored and preserved. A good 20minutes you spend here would give you a complete picture of the early 1900 century life in this harbour town. Fisherman's life, their equipment, attires are perfectly preserved and there is also a few embalmed excotic animals.

Pleasant experience. We loved reading everything in English but could not find the easy interpretation on the German occupation section. We are big fans of the Norwegian moral stance during WW2. We have taken lots of photos of the exhibits. Thank you.

If you go nowhere else in Alesund, then go here. Really interesting retelling of the town's history, clear and concise without being information overload. Staff extremely polite and friendly. Really detailed history of the fire and the town's restoration. Lifeboat section was amazing and totally unexpected. Only feedback would be that while the majority of the museum is translated to English, the basement sections detailing the Second World War era isn't. The pictures and equipment were interesting however.

👍👍 We did this as part of a MSC cruise tour, we were dropped off at the opposite end and walked through the forest and fantastic walk trails to this position. These are stairs leading up from the city but can be strenuous for some. Cafe at the top, old bunker and of course wonderful views.
