10 June 2022. If I could give this place no stars I would. For the amount of money we spent here I hope to warn other group bookings that if your wanting to enjoy an evening of leisure and a catch up with your family even on special occasions. The flying Moa should be avoided at all costs. We booked here for a birthday and even though it was average food, towards the end of the evening two staff members in particular were very rude. We were all enjoying time with family aware that the place was about to close. They allowed us to order our last drinks and the rush to get us out of there after ordering was surely displayed with their discriminating actions. Jordan Edwards- “Manager” on site spoke so rudely to our table, the unnecessary unconscious bias towards our group was outright demeaning and need to learn what hospitality is about. The other staff member “Emily” who had an attitude of someone who obviously didn’t like her job. Won’t be returning here what a complete waste of money all because of two staff members who don’t know how to make a first impression on their customers. I mean for goodness sake they didn’t even let us eat our birthday cake because the staff member was more concerned about closing in 5 minutes. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Shocking Flying Moa.

UPDATE! Ha! Can’t reply back so I’ll say it here! Your response is as weak as your service. The old copy and paste trick huh. Did you forget about the other group who were also there til close but decided to pick on us then threatened to call the cops and accused us of having gear (Drugs) just to get us out though you served last round 30min before you decided to close and expected us to chug a tower down? What a joke. Absolutely pathetic! You don’t deserve any stars and should be fired! Food was average at best, staff were even worse! Thanks for the unpleasant experience Jordan Gaylord.

I went there 45 minutes before closing and not many options were available. As I wasn’t starving, I didn’t bother. Ordered some fries and a mocktel of lemon. It came out fast thankfully and it tasted just fine. Overall service was good and staff friendly.

The Flying Moa is a great find. If we had not used First Table we would not have discovered this Mt Wellington local. The plates are large, maybe too big. However the tastes were great. We recommend the Fish and Chips and the Ribs (the small is huge). The Caramel Pork Bites were awesome! Parking right outside. Servers very friendly, we had a great chat and lovely evening.

What a terrible experience! We ordered a $70!!! platter that was maybe enough for one grown man. What a joke! And the meat was cold. No sides with it. Not even a lemon for the 3 small pieces of calamari 😂 3 small pieces of chicken. Absolutely ridiculous. The soda tasted flat. Their serving sizes are absolutely ridiculous. And their service is no better. Wouldn’t ever recommend. Yikes.

Nice place, nice atmosphere reasonable priced!! I've been a few times and the food and drinks are always great. Recently i ordered the chicken schnitzel with smashed potatoes and green beans and it was delicious. My friends ordered the Csesar Salad with chicken and that too was great. The place was packed and service time was reasonable. Highly recommended.

Service was OK but the food was disappointing. Had the steak for lunch and it wasnt great. Expected a better standard for the price ($42). The meat was tough and quality sub standard. The salad was basic as with just tomatoes and lettuce, but the leaves were old and brown on the edges. And the hand-cut chips were recooked. Overall the food was disappointing.. OK if you're just looking for a drink and catch up, but I'd avoid earing there.

We had the lamb shank with mash as well as the chicken schnitzel burger (with lettuce wrap instead of the bun) and fries. I also had a caramilk hard shake which didn't seem particularly alcoholic. Food was excellent, tender and well presented. Probably my biggest criticism was that the meal was a bit on the expensive side. In summary, loved the food as well as the service and surroundings. However a good night out could have been a great night out if they reigned in the price a bit.

Response to Manager feedback for how our group was badly treated. Since you don’t allow customers to respond. I will just add my experience yet again to advise the public of how rude your staff is including the manager behind the keyboard. 1. Please explain how your staff gave plenty of notice to our group when clearly there are others still around and our group can see that? Place yourself in the customers shoes. We were only told that you were closing a few minutes before which we were clear of and for your information we were not “asked” nor nicely to leave. The body language and scene we witnessed and stereotyping prior to being forced to leave is why I will be taking this complaint further. 2. If race was not the issue then why was the other table who were also there and of European descent not approached the same way we were by Jordan who is meant to be the manager. We were very much aware of the closing time and were happy to comply yet you failed to allow us enough time to finish our alcohol that you served us and called as “last drinks” before closing as paying customers. we knowingly were just weary of the other table and were about to finish up. If you had a specific closing time then maybe you need to let your staff know to not serve anymore alcohol. The fact is this whole situation could have been avoided if your Manager Jordan owned up to his rude approach and managed the situation appropriately. 3. Noone even your venue tolerates physical/ verbal / homophobic abuse yet you failed to mention or apologise because it was your staff who displayed the above towards our group. Our group only retaliated because of the actions your staff showed towards us. Apart from the fact that we will not be back I will not accept your “Sorry you feel that way” I am appalled of such a response let alone from a manager. Noted we are not the only group who have been treated this way and to have this experience according to reviews so I will happily share the truth :)

Good for serving big group of people. Enough car park on site. Variety of drink. Food is average.

This place has lost a lot of love. I took friends from out of town to have some lunch and drinks. The food was pathetic, I could of got more meat on a $5 pizza from domino's. Staff member serving drinks had one arm in a cast whilst the other older staff member was more interested having a drink with friends at a table. The chicken was the only good thing here. Friends said they'd never come back.

What a surprise find! Don't just drive by worth a stop. Food surprising good, great music, not too loud to have a conversation. Starters larger enough for lunch. Lovely Indian waited remembers us from previous week

Good food, I liked the big chunky lettuce on the burger, fries were hot and the chicken was nicely cooked. The staff did apologise for being short staffed but we honestly didn't notice, food was delivered in good time.

Superb service and great food! Will definitely come back here. Kudos to this team.

Had lunch here with my family & we ordered different meals. Service was great from a friendly lady who looked after us, typical pub/restaurant atmosphere - good vibes & lively. Looked clean & although food tasted good, unfortunately there was not much of a selection & very pricey for you get ...food prices were more like "restaurant" prices for "pub" food. Would definitely return for drinks but not for a meal.

Nice, open and spacious inside with a lovely outdoor seating area. Staff are relaxed and friendly and were prompt to clear our table when we visited. Food came out promptly, was very nice and my special requests were well catered for. Great that they have a pool table too, the perfect mix of bar & eatery.

Fab place! Went to the Flying Moa and ordered the fish tacos and pork bites as well as a few drinks. The food was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. If you’re in Mount Wellington and looking for a nice spot be sure to check it out, highly recommend!

Firstly. I have to say the staff at this establishment are lovely and the service at the bar is very good. The reason for a 2 star review is that the portions are quite small and the menu is over priced. For example this side of fries cost $10 and it wasn’t even full and they had lined it with paper making the serving even smaller as part of the basket was empty. Don’t know if I’d come back.

1. Slightly overpriced for what it is 2. They didn’t have chicken, fish, bacon, and other food that was on the menu so options to eat was very limited 3. Side of fries was $11.50 and it tasted like uncooked potato and the portion size was a joke - kids get more fries in their meals from other places Our waiter was friendly though so that was the only thing pleasant about our visit

Food is amazing. Pork belly and prawn roll is so tasty, and pan fried fish(fresh fish) and chips very nice. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good vibe.

Chicken schnitzel was really good, but their vegan options leave a lot to be desired, and not a place I'd go again if I had any vegans in my group. Ordered the vegan version of the Diablo burger and it was a stripped down version of the regular Diablo burger with just buns, a vegan pattie, some jalapeno pieces and a bit of sauce. (Photo taken after most of fries eaten - they were good at least). Staff may not have had the authority to make up for this disappointing offering (they still charged the full price), but being told that we were the ones who had asked for ingredients to be left out of the default burger didn't exactly improve our mood.

Easy booking a table online. Menu has lots of options for everyone. Colouring in for the kids. Was very busy as the warriors game was on. Service was hit and miss, slow and unattentative, had to go looking for staff. Food was delicious. Lots of gluten free options. Kids enjoyed their meals.

Tasty food, handled a large group well though the numbers felt like it pushed the kitchen as the time from when food was coming out until the last table was served was longer than I would have expected. That said, front of house staff were polite and helpful. The view from the smokers area is better than anywhere else.

The very best around! If you haven’t been, make sure you do. Great beers, food and staff! Shows sports on a big screen and has awesome specials most nights. Make sure you try the ribs, you won’t find anywhere better!

I went there to celebrate my birthday and had an amazing experience. Therefore, I decided to do the Christmas party of where I work there as well. I must say that in both events I only got compliments about the food, service and atmosphere. Thank you so much for having me and my people both events and leave so many good memories. Paid $32.50 for burnt, dry chicken schnitzel and what seemed like frozen green beans. I was shocked it was even sent out. Goes to show the standards in the kitchen. Wish I had sent it back but was hungry and didn’t want to wait another 30min for dinner. My partner didn’t enjoy his pan fried fish and chips either. Best part were the friendly servers and the beer. Wouldn’t return, food was expensive and not up to scratch.

Ribs was awful, very tough, dry and sickly sweet Waitress was delightful and excellent service. Restaurant is a bit empty for a Friday night, probably reflective of the food quality

We hade 3 drinks each cocktails were good, prawn and pork roll was absolutely delicious!!!!!! Steak meal was good but not for $50 side was chips and bok choy not really what I would expect on a steak meal, didn’t apply my joypab code when they said they had, unsure where we were supposed to wait as no one came to where the waiting area was so had to go up to the bar. But servers were awesome!!

Nice range of food which came out fairly quick. Good size servings which was easily enough. Amazing service from Kira and plenty of staff around.

Great food, amazing cocktails and friendly service Cons... The flies!! Man we were trying to keep flies off our meal like we were eating in a bush! Definately needs some sort of fly deterent here. The only other negative would be out starter came out still frozen in the middle but they replaced and did not charge us so honest mistake.

Staffing really needs to be assessed for big televised sporting events. The wait for food and drinks was crazy long. 2hr wait for the platters to come out. Ordered drinks around 6:10pm and got them around 7pm. Was another 1hr for the next round to happen.. having to chase staff for an update on food or drinks. The Ribs are definitely some of the best.

Staff are lovely. But food not so great. Our starter dumplings were cold in the middle. I couldn’t eat my pasta because it was flavourless unfortunately. My partner had pork belly and said it was “ok”. The general overview of the experience was “ok” we would say. Drinks were good. I’d probably come back for drinks but not food.

Unfortunately, they didn't beat my expectations. The food was too oily and tasteless and their chips are too thin and broken. The only good thing I enjoyed was the haze beer. That was really good. The environment is also nice!

Overall I wouldn't go back there again, service was pretty much 👎 food as well. Like seriously put some love into the food. Especially @ $ 307.00.🤦‍♀️ Family of 6 plus a new born baby, with a pram the area where my family and I were seated.( by the slide door entrance.) Pram couldn't fit I asked if we could be seated elsewhere, waitress reply tables weren't clean. Seriously it wouldn't have taken her long even I could've gone and did it myself. The young girls that work there change your attitude. Flying Moa better service and love into your food.🙏

Will change to 5 stars when you stop being cheap and fix your projector and other terrible TV’s. And $13 for a Heineken, yet you want me to pay more because I’m paying with a credit card. Lower your prices, stop charging us to pay you, and fix your TV’s, and you’d probably be full tonight. Fish and chips were very average too.

Absolutely fantastic! Food was great, friendly and fast service. Very reasonable price.

We were one of only two tables at lunchtime, and with 4 staff on we still couldn’t get served. We had to try catch someone’s eye each time we wanted to order something which proved difficult as the staff seemed preoccupied chatting. The usual mishaps of a drink being forgotten etc. Very confused when the kids meal came out - a cheeseburger with no cheese. In fact it was just a bun and a meat patty. Very underwhelming! Luckily for us a new staff member started her shift and her service was amazing once she started.

Not as good as expensive. This place definitely should be avoided for lunch but still can be OK for dinner with alcohol. On the photo fish n chips + side leafs for 39$ total 🤨

Initially thought it was a lovely place and good atmosphere, I wish I could say the same about the service. Waitresses were so rude and then food took over 2 hours to get to us with everything coming at different times. When they ran out of food after hours of waiting! Would definitely not recommend.
