Cedar Creek Waterway

Park Hiking area

👍👍 I’m hesitant to leave a review because (1) this is probably the best kept secret in Abilene, and (2) I don’t want trashy people ruining this place, but here goes. Besides the state park trails, this waterway is a great hiking path that makes you forget you’re in the middle of a city (or in the Abile... People often mention trail, Abilene,

I’m hesitant to leave a review because (1) this is probably the best kept secret in Abilene, and (2) I don’t want trashy people ruining this place, but here goes. Besides the state park trails, this waterway is a great hiking path that makes you forget you’re in the middle of a city (or in the Abilene area). There’s deer and plenty of birds (and the occasional cat). Walking from the start of the trail at S 11th to College Dr and back is a little short of 5 miles. There is only one spot where terrible people have made it their dumping ground for mattresses, trash, and old furniture. Other than that, the rest is very clean and has well kept paths to follow. At the train tracks, you’ll also be treated to 1st grade drawings done by ‘taggers’ that think they know how to use spray paint to create works of art. Private property is well marked and there are no fences. Just stay on the paths. If you’re someone that likes leaving trash everywhere you go, this isn’t the place for you. There are no trash cans on the trail. However, if you’re someone that wants to enjoy nature and get some exercise, then come here and enjoy.

Some areas of the trail needs defining or marking. Areas of uneven terrain could risk ankle injury, if not paying attention while running. I enjoyed it.

Great hiking trail along Cedar Creek. The last part can be pretty muddy, and the grass can grow pretty long at some times, but I enjoy walking here in the evenings.

Decent trail by a creak. The sweet aroma of sewage is in the air.

Construction going on. I'm sure things will be much nicer once all the work is done.

I’ve been running this trail the past few years and just this past year they finally started building a pathway! Wide enough for bikes and walking both ways. They even have trash cans, bike fix/air stations and emergency towers along the path. It’s about 2.5 miles long and does not quite make it to ACU (stops at 10th St going North) but if you cut through some backroads you can get up there with another 0.5 mile added. If they connect this all the way to the ACU school loop it’ll earn 5 stars. Hoping for a more active community growth in Abilene. Well done Abilene!

we walked along the waterway to Stephan Park, and we had a great time. I thought that it was nice to get away from the city.
