This
gorgeous
Church
built
over
124
years
ago
(June
1897)
by
the
French
Father
Foubert
,
sits
atop
a
hill
in
Ootacamund
or
Ooty.
All
right.
What
is
so
special
about
this
Roman
Catholic
Church
-
you
might
ask.
The
answer
is
it
is
both
simple
and
magnificent.
From
the
outside
it
looks
mystic
-
typical
Gothic
Church
structure.
Once
you
are
inside
-
you
will
be
struck
at
the
grandeur
of
the
European
life-sized
statues
and
the
Belgian
Stained
glass
windows.
The
altar
has
a
large
Statue
of
Christ
-
imported
from
Europe.
The
flight
of
steps
leading
to
the
Church
should
not
deter
you
if
you
have
a
vehicle.
There
is
a
road
leading
right
up
to
the
Church
on
the
side.
I
used
to
attend
the
Mass
every
Sunday
here
during
my
childhood.
They
renovated
the
Church
in
1987
-
but
kept
the
outer
shell
intact.
The
Divine
Mercy
picture
is
pure
divine.
You
will
hear
the
sound
of
birds
most
of
the
time
-
away
from
the
bustle
of
the
tourist
town.
For
the
history
buffs,
you
will
see
many
top
people
from
the
British
hierarchy
interned
here.
There
is
a
plaque
that
says
Lt.Col.
T.F.Kelly,
Secretary
to
the
Governor
of
Madras
interned
there.
The
Church
offers
Mass
in
English
and
Tamil
on
Sundays
and
in
Tamil
on
weekdays.
