This gorgeous Church built over 124 years ago (June 1897) by the French Father Foubert , sits atop a hill in Ootacamund or Ooty. All right. What is so special about this Roman Catholic Church - you might ask. The answer is it is both simple and magnificent. From the outside it looks mystic - typical Gothic Church structure. Once you are inside - you will be struck at the grandeur of the European life-sized statues and the Belgian Stained glass windows. The altar has a large Statue of Christ - imported from Europe. The flight of steps leading to the Church should not deter you if you have a vehicle. There is a road leading right up to the Church on the side. I used to attend the Mass every Sunday here during my childhood. They renovated the Church in 1987 - but kept the outer shell intact. The Divine Mercy picture is pure divine. You will hear the sound of birds most of the time - away from the bustle of the tourist town. For the history buffs, you will see many top people from the British hierarchy interned here. There is a plaque that says Lt.Col. T.F.Kelly, Secretary to the Governor of Madras interned there. The Church offers Mass in English and Tamil on Sundays and in Tamil on weekdays.

A lovely church in the heart of Ooty. This church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be seen from quite a distance across Ooty as it is elevated on a small hillock. The church is well maintained and sparkling white. The stairway to the church is also well maintained and adds to the beauty of the church. There is also a multipurpose hall and school within the vicinity of the church premises. There is ample parking available at the church campus. There is also a small and spacious adoration chapel and some time spent here is really satisfying. A beautiful place and architecture holds the blessed statue of Mother Mary. Overall a visit to the cathedral is both satisfying and peaceful. God Bless 💐

Beautiful church, must visit in Ooty. Don't miss the small prayer room beside the church. Not to forget the lovely garden, unique flowers in front as well as around the church.

One must visit this church and the choir is simple and angelic. I love to go to this church Everytime I come to Ooty. It's just a walkable distance from Botanical garden. It's a catholic church and has both Tamil and English services (holy masses available). On sundays 9 o clock in the morning, Tamil mass is celebrated. If you come by car you can park it in the government parking at the entrance of the church street, assuming you are a tourist.

A humble masterpiece of craftsmanship. One of the oldest churches in ooty, with intricately detailed elements such as teak furniture, balconies, and vibrant staines glass windows. A must see on Ooty

A beautiful, peace-filled cathedral. I didn't manage to attend mass there so am not sure if that side.
